I'm passing all the time nearby this restaurant because it's in my neighborhood and it's always full ,so tonight I decide to go there and try the Italian food. The hostess were so lovely and accommodate me outside on my request, because was a nice weather and they please me. Had the perfect table with a lovely view. The food it's so tasty and the portions are huge:) .I had tortellini carbonara and was delicious. Angela ,the sweet lady that took care of us was super nice and help me with my choice of food and didn't disappoint at all.She was asking all the time if we need anything else in a pleasant way which make you feel like you are in a familiar place. The cheesecake was the cherry of the cake ,to bad I couldn't eat so much but that's ok because I had a second round at home.:) Can't wait to get back again to try other dishes. read more

If you're looking for a classic Italian spot in river north... this is the place. The portions were great! You definitely won't be leaving hungry and possibly with some left overs. I made a reservation for 4 people on a Saturday at 6:30pm. Definitely make a reservation if you plan to go around that time because it was busy! We were seated downstairs in the back, kind of behind a wall. It was pretty cramped, but we were able to make do. We specifically chose Rosebud on Rush for their Restaurant Week menu. Unfortunately the menu on the official Restaurant Week website differs from Rosebud's website - we thought we'd be getting 5 courses instead of 4. Despite the menu confusion, we decided to carry on with their Restaurant Week menu. I ordered the caprese, stuffed mushrooms, salmon, and cheesecake. My friends also ordered the Caesar salad, calamari, rigatoni vodka, chicken Parmesan, and New York strip steak. Neither my salmon nor friend's New York strip steak came with a side (even a small side) so keep that in mind - you'll just be getting a piece of fish or meat. We all agreed that we all had plenty of food, but the taste and presentation weren't anything out of this world. We also shared a couple bottles of Justin Cabernet Sauvignon which were great . Overall I give the food and ambiance a 3, but our server (whose name I can't remember!) really made our dinner enjoyable and because of him I give Rosebud on Rush a 4. He was super personable and friendly. He gave our friend a small cake with a candle to celebrate her first pregnancy - it was very thoughtful! If I were to return I would probably choose an item from the regular menu as I do not think the Restaurant Week price was worth the quality of food we received. read more

My cousin picked Rosebud as an early birthday celebration. We were staying at nearby Courtyard Marriott on Magnificent Mile thus it was nearby and looked quite packed when we passed it one night. We were both in the mood for a good Italian meal. I made reservations on OpenTable and we first were seated in the outdoor enclosed area. We were told there were heaters and unfortunately we had to ask for another table due to the unbearable coldness coming in from the plastic covering. You know things aren't warm when nearby patrons are twirling spaghetti with gloves, scarves and hats on. One question: Why? Why have outdoor dining that can't offer a warm environment especially on an extremely chilly night in Chicago! We were escorted upstairs, (there was a discussion as to where else we could be seated ) which I don't understand due to the emptiness of the upstairs dining are. For the most part it was warmer. Our over " happy" and talkative waiter handed us menus and we ordered cocktails first as we read the menu. Simple: steaks, chicken, salad, pasta. I really wanted to order the bone in roasted chicken oregenata but chicken dishes requires 35 minutes so that was a disconnect thus I ordered a cup of lobster bisque ( it was the special of the night, I asked for the cup didn't want a bowl). My cousin only wanted an entree Tortellini Carbonara and for me, Linguini with clams in a white sauce Well let's start with the positives: the Lobster Bisque was delicious as was my glass of Sauvignon Blanc. My cousin's Cosmopolitan had to be remade due to overly sweet. Now for the major disappointment: the Tortellini Carbonara was dry and it is usually prepared with bacon pieces not ham. The linguini with clams was bland and tasteless. After realizing Rosebud is a chain, I hate to say it but that explains how inauthentic the dishes are prepared. I will say the service was very good and the upstairs dining room was warm and cozy. The other positive was signing up for InKind and getting $25 off our bill. Honestly, I do not mind paying for good food but $30 for lackluster linguini with clams just isn't worth it. Thus, if you want average Italian food this is your place. read more

Always frequented the original in Little Italy. This off Michigan Ave outpost didn't disappoint. Attentive, friendly service. Great recommendations. They delivered a perfect Remy Martin Sidecar Martini. Appetizers: impeccably fresh and sizeable bruchetta and a fresh, flavorful sausage and peppers. Entrees: Eggplant parm, Chicken parm, Lamb chop oregano. All mammoth portions, hot, and flavorful. The winner was surprisingly the side rigatoni with vodka sauce. Possibly the freshest I've ever had, the depth of flavor in the vodka sauce was superb. Dessets: Carolina and Cbocolate Cake. Great presentation, mammoth portions, and delivered in a flash. Outstanding meal overall, took 70% of it home. Ask for extra sauce when they box you up. Sorry I didn't take pics. Presentation was above average but when the food tastes that good, who cares? Went there over the weekend. Was seated in relatively short time. Waitress quickly came and after few minutes gave orders for drinks and appetizer. Over next 20 minutes flagged the waitress four times to come and take our orders; she kept nodding and never came. Few times found her standing in line to collect drinks for other tables. Finally, saw a manager and told him the story and asked for the check; paid and left. Waitress saw us get the check from another waitress and never came to apologize. I came to Rosebud on Rush for the first time on a double date, and it was before an event. We were seated as soon as everyone arrived, and the hosts were quite friendly. We sat upstairs, and there was a coat check. It was a nice place but not overly fancy, and I liked the setup of multiple dining rooms in a warm, inviting atmosphere. My party and I enjoyed the vibe. Service was impeccable! Elsa was kind, personable, and made a lot of recommendations based on our preferences. The first thing I noticed when the food came out was the large portion size. Everything was priced similarly to other restaurants in Chicago but man I easily got two meals out of my food. I ordered the chicken Milanese. I liked how it came as a balanced meal of chicken, salad, and pasta--some of my favorite foods! I also appreciated that I could change the sauce from marinara to vodka, and there was plenty of flavor in the pasta. The salad was delicious as well, and I could've eaten a whole bowl--peppery arugula and some lemony dressing. The chicken had a decent Parmesan flavor, but I honestly found most of it a bit dry and tough. Also the salad was touching about 1/4 of it which made that part soggy. Decided to finally give this spot a try, although I tend to shy away from big restaurant chains. Came during restaurant week for lunch and they did not provide a restaurant week menu when seated. I had to specifically ask for it (odd, strike 1), and it took them a long while to produce it all the while not even water or bread service was delivered to the table. Meanwhile, I used my phone to look up the menu on "Choose Chicago" website who widely promoted all the restaurants participating and their prix-fixed menus for the event. I made my food selections and waited patiently for the paper menu and waiter to return. As I placed my order, the waiter said it was not pasta side AND an entree, it was one OR the other. He snickered when I showed him my phone with the published menu and he persisted to tell me it was wrong and that is not what they were offering at this location. I then showed him that ALL the Rosebud locations had the same menu posted online and asked him to please honor it or I would be having lunch at one of the other locations who were honoring it (strike 2). It was a very offputting experience to have to negotiate this with him. Waiter went to the Kitchen, came back and said, "ok I will do it for you, but not for everyone here." This is the type of attitude that ruins what should be a nice relaxing meal. He was snippy the whole time. I probably should have left before ordering but it was cold outside and I was quite hungry. I digress... The main restaurant is actually in the basement, down a short flight of stairs. Dark cherry wood bar and white linen tablecloths. On arrival it wasn't too busy but by the time the meal arrived, almost every table was occupied. Onto the actual food: it was very good and and a nice portion for lunch. Food was fine, though pricey. We sat in the patio area. Why on earth they sat us right by the noisy busing area and intersection; there were more desirable tables available. I didn't want to say anything being a guest, but it really irked me. The one person kept getting bumped into every time, a waiter or waitress walk by. I felt bad. We sat outside, and to our surprise, it was uncomfortably warm under the heaters. In fact, a table that arrived after us decided to move inside because of the heat. I wouldn't choose to sit outside again, as the chairs were also quite uncomfortable. From the start, our server seemed rushed. There was no introduction, no mention of specials--just a quick "what do you want?" Meanwhile, we overheard other servers being much more personable, chatting with their tables, asking if it was their first time dining there, and offering suggestions. The contrast was striking. The food was just okay, with large portions. I would have appreciated fresh parmesan or cracked pepper to elevate the dishes. We started with the caprese salad, but the tomatoes were hard and lacked flavor. My husband ordered the Chicken Calabrese, and without asking, the server poured the sauce all over the dish, which surprised us--normally, that would be something you offer to do. My pasta was slightly overcooked, though the sauce was tasty. Overall, we were disappointed, especially after hearing such great things from friends who always visit Rosebud when they're in town. The two times I've been to Rosebud, have been during the Thanksgiving holiday. I do not have any family in the US to celebrate this holiday with, but I am so glad I get to enjoy at least some of the traditional Thanksgiving foods thanks to the great menu that Rosebud offers. It has become a tradition of my own. Luckily this year, I had a friend in the same position tag along and we got to try the turkey AND the brisket. The meal also comes with the traditional sides (cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, stuffing, carrots and cornbread). The turkey is just SO GOOOOOD! It wasn't dry at all, on the contrary it was super juicy and seasoned to perfection. The sides were excellent except the cornbread, it was a little too dry for my taste. The Thanksgiving menu also comes with dessert, so my friend and I tried the traditional pumpkin and pecan pies (PERFECT amount of sugar, not overly sweet). We both ended our meal with a cappuccino (which was recommended to us by our delightful waiter). The rosebud is known for its delicious Italian cuisine that I have yet to try, but if it's anything like their Thanksgiving menu, then I can understand the hype this place gets. It has outdoor and indoor (underground) seating, but it's so cozy, specially during the winter time. The location is fantastic. Located in the heart of downtown this restaurant is in a great location, unfortunately the food tasted like it had been reheated in the microwave. I was in Chicago with some family to see a Broadway show and wanted to go somewhere nice and close to the theater. Found this through open table and the menu sounded great it had a little something for everyone. There was also a promotion going on for $50 off $150 or more and that was a great bonus. The restaurant is so cute and had a great Italian vibe. We sat upstairs at a nice intimate table with a lit candle. Our server was phenomenal, but you could tell she was not pleased that the staff who preps the table (drop bread off, water and straws) as we didn't have bread for a while and our app took a long time, but once it arrived wow so flavorful and the sauce was the perfect sauce to sop the fresh bread up with. Angela made excellent suggestions and was very attentive to me, my granny, and my cousins. My granny ordered lasagna and she loved it, it was very large so she ate just half. My cousins ordered cheese ravioli and eggplant Parmesan. My entree was the short rib and polenta and wowwwww talk about tender and juicy! You can never get tired of white table clothes in a packed Italian restaurant with some of the best servers Chicago has to offer. I decided to write this review to highlight my server Miguel!!!! I ordered the appetizer lamb chops as my food choice for the evening, it was kind of late and didn't want to eat too heavy. Went for an office event for lunch. Seated downstairs with loud music blaring from the speaker in the ceiling. Asked the server if it could be turned down since we were at a long table, one was a big group and one had a hearing issue and we found ourselves having to yell to be heard. Server said they can't turn it down. Made the same comment to the host at the desk on the way out- got the same response. Recommendation--take a pass on this place. Food is just fair at best and to not be able to reasonably accommodate a guest's simple request doesn't fly in the competitive restaurant field in Chicago. Lots of better places in the neighborhood--try Francesca's on Chestnut for example. You'll enjoy it more. read more

Rarely do I give a one-star rating but overall the food and service was just not good. We came here for the 4 course restaurant week lunch on a Monday and the restaurant was at most half full but it really felt like we were not taken care of. First, we were not given the restaurant week menu to start and then after asking it took 15 min for us to flag down a waiter repeatedly to get the menu. Our meal started with bread which I have to say may have been the best part. First course: We ordered the house salad and stuffed mushrooms. The stuffed mushrooms were incredibly over-salted and we got the Caesar salad instead of the house salad. Third course: Next we got our entrees before pasta. The chicken parmesan was ok but lacked flavor. The beef vesuvio was overcooked and tough when we ordered medium rare and oddly too sweet with a very thin sauce. Second course: Seems like the staff forgot about this until we reminded them. The spaghetti w/meatballs was ok but the meatball had an odd smell and tough. The rigatoni w/vodka was very undercooked and inedible. Dessert: Again they forgot about a course and we received boxes before the tiramisu came. We had to remind them and when we received the tiramisu, it was overly sweet with a caramel sauce and cake rather than ladyfingers. The caramel overpowered the tiramisu. Every course had problems and the service forgot about us multiple times despite the fact that the restaurant was not full and other people who were seated after us with more people finished earlier. The restaurant week menu seemed like a good deal but unfortunately it was quantity over quality. read more

I'm not going to claim that Rosebud is the best Italian in Chicago, or that this location isn't pretty touristy because it is. They said, they delivered a really good experience. We had a lovely table upstairs and service was genuinely warm and welcoming. It's a good place for a group and tends to be a little noisy. We started with a classic Caesar salad which was lightly dressed and had plenty of shaved Parmesan. Big enough for 4, it was exactly what you want in a Caesar. The mister opted for Veal Parm and what arrived was a giant cutlet the size of the dinner plate - absolutely huge. I had a perfectly cooked steak with fresh broccoli and asparagus and again, a very large portion. We ended on a sweet note with cheesecake which once again, was giant. It was also delicious! Prices are what you'd expect for the location but we left with enough leftovers for another full meal. Rosebud has been around for a long time for good reason - they deliver large amounts of above average food in a warm atmosphere. read more

We were serviced right away, the menu had a great selection, the waiter took our entire order , paced the meal perfectly and everything was delicious. A few items are priced pretty high for what they are, so if you are price conscious, just be careful ordering, again not the place for lamb lollipops or steaks. Consistently, The best Italian food in Chicago (!), and a great value! I often go to Rosebud's in the suburbs, but this weekend for Italian fest, our group went to the one in the city, and it was even better! Not only did all the dishes we shared stand up easily to all of the vendor booths we tried, but every dish was outstanding in it own right, unanimous approved by all in our group who tasted them (ie. I don't eat eggplant; no matter how "good " it is!). We had backed clams and calamari for apps; probably the best, crispiest, non fatty/ not greasy calamari I had had in a long time! Then grilled Italian sausage & peppers and meatballs ( probably the best, certainly the biggest I have had!) , along with salads, arugula and the house (which is my choice, since it got something of everything in it!) . Next we had a double portion of their signature vodka rigatoni (I can't go there without having at least that!) For mains, it was crispy chicken Milanese, eggplant and chicken parmigiana, all "outstanding" , despite by that time nobody was hungry any more! No desert, b/c we were all stuffed (!), although they are also well know for their cakes ( big slices! I used to love the steaks at Rosebud. I ordered the filet ribeye rare. I was very excited as it has been awhile since I've been there. The good: our waitress was excellent, the pasta - dishes great, chicken dish was huge! And tasty. Wine was excellent. The dessert was good, we had 3 items. They did bring our party some birthday cannoli's for one of our party but they also charged us for it which was fine but most places comp that. The bad: steak came medium rare despite ordering it rare, had to hunt down the waitress to send it back. Brought replacement in decent time. It was better. Not quite as rare as I'd like, more of an in between rare- medium rare but I didn't want to keep waiting to eat. There was little to no seasoning on the steak. All I put on it at home is salt & pepper then finish it with melted butter to top off. I don't think there was any seasoning on it. I was very surprised. Definitely not what I was expecting. They do serve it with a sauce/glaze on the side which is good. The price was reasonable for the cut of meat but the flavor left me wishing I had ordered pasta. It's a very noisy restaurant which I do not mind. We were able to talk comfortably at the table. The tables are a little small for 4 people to eat at. We gave them the bread basket so we'd have room for the meal. The bread doesn't come warm which is disappointing. There is olive oil on the table for the bread but no seasoning for the oil. I'm not sure I'd go back but if I do, I'll get a pasta dishes. read more
