Just came for the bar downstairs for a drink with a friend so I can't comment on the food. The bar service was good & the atmosphere seems moody & dark but cozy. Our visit here was not planned at all, but it all worked for good! There's a Giordano's beside this at Rush St. and that's where we planned to eat originally, but it didn't work out since the wait time that the front desk advised us will end up being past their closing time. So we saw this resto and we're glad we did end up eating here. The ambiance was good, not too formal but it's decent enough to get a family of 4 (with 2yo) eat a good dinner meal. Everybody was so welcoming, from the front desk to the server. It's our first time eating here so we were browsing other tables and it looked like they serve on a big plate, but we're not too sure so we just ordered a meal for us 3 adults. The bread was delicious and served warm.. and we were given a refill.. so nice! We ordered calamari as a starter and we all enjoyed it! Those were large cuts of squids, so I needed to cut them smaller for my 2yo and he liked it.. a lot! What I liked about this calamari is the marinara sauce.. I think that's the best I've had so far, they have that unique taste in it that all 3 of us adults liked very much.. Usually the marinara sauce is something that tastes like pure tomato sauce.. but this one is different.. Now for the main dish.. OMG.. those are humongous serving.. I ordered a chicken parmegiano and it's like for 3, you can check the photo.. I end up eating only half, while sharing some of it with my wife and son. It's that big! The taste didn't disappoint, crunchy on the edge, crusted parmesan cheese tastes very good and the sauce, it was under the chicken and so it balances that cheesy filling on top. We ended up taking 3 boxes because all 3 of us weren't able to finish our food, but everything we ordered tastes really good. I guess the next time we visit we'll have to do to-share. Met up an out of town coworker who wanted a combination of Italian and steak, somewhere downtown close to their hotel, and also somewhere that won't break the bank. Ding ding ding, thanks to the recommendation of my cousin, Rosebud was just what we were looking for. Service by our waiter was superb. He even let us customize our pasta orders by letting us split 2 different pasta dishes and putting half on one side half on the other, on 2 plates, if that makes any sense. The portions are huge, great for when you're on a date and don't mind sharing. We started off with some delicious red wine. Couldn't remember the name of it but it was great. And I'm sure I'm not just saying that because it was my first glass of wine being 6 months postpartum! For the main dish, I got the skirt steak which was on the special menu for that day, came with sweet peppers and shrimp on the side. It was quite tasty. Paired it with some tortellini and rigatoni pasta from my husband's plate and we were good to go! For dessert we shared the tiramusu. It was big enough for 4 people to share! Quite delicious and creamy. The price for everything was very reasonable, compared to the other restaurants and steak houses in the area. Rosebud on Rush has nice outdoor seating as well. I sauntered by Rosebud a few days ago and knew this would be my next stop on my Chicago food exploration tour! The food & drinks were amazing! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. And the portions are HUUUGE. And the service: phenomenal. I actually had a bit of a medical emergency during my dining experience (I fainted in the bathroom) and the staff went above of beyond to make sure I was safe and taken care of. The hostess even fished my glasses out of the toilet... she's a superstar. This isn't the first time I've fainted in public... but they were calm and made sure I was safe. I was truly emotional with how everything was handled. They got me outside on the patio for fresh air, had some ice cold water for me and a cold compress for my neck. The staff was remarkable and I couldn't thank each and everyone one of you enough! read more

We arrived here on a Saturday night with an 8:15 reservation and were seated at 8:30-8:35P. A bit slower than expected but this is what we've come to expect with many restaurants in Chicago (sigh). The server recommended a wine blend that both my wife and I enjoyed very much. Now for the food. We got the grilled calamari. I loved the taste but the calamari was a bit chewy. We were debating between the spaghetti and meatballs and the rigatoni a la vodka and the server recommended the latter and said that we can meatballs with that. So we ordered the dish. The rigatoni a la vodka was sub-par (although cooked very well I didn't like the flavor). But the meatballs that came on the side were to die for. And the sauce that the meatballs came I assume was the same one they make for spaghetti and meatballs and that was delicious. The portions are huge here so plan on sharing. Overall, it gets a 4 star because the waiters were very friendly and attentive, and I'd come back for the meatballs :). read more

We were out and about downtown Chicago the other day and thought we'd try Rosebud on Rush - another of the family of Rosebud restaurants. We started with a couple of Amaretto Sours and glasses of Ruffino Chianti, plus a classic Manhattan ... so we started out with $79 on the bill ... while the drinks were very good - all 4 and 5 stars - just remember to bring your wallet. For an appetizer we had the Garlic Knots (5 star pull-apart bread loaf with wonderful garlic butter on the lightly crusted top). We also had the Caprese Salad (4 star nicely ripened tomatoes with balsamic and basil ... only complaint was there was not enough balsamic to make it a nice counterpoint). For dinner one of us had the seabass (3 stars very nice but not worth the $52 when you just get a 4 inch piece of fish on top of some sautéed spinach without any other accompaniment); another had the Fettuccine Alfredo (4 star delicious and creamy ... the hit of the night); and the last diner had the Short Rib and Polenta (2 star offering which seemed more like a chunk of dense pot roast thrown on top of a smush of polenta). All in all, the drinks and appetizers eclipsed the mains. When we made our reservation we had said that it was a little birthday dinner. When we arrived the maître d' did say Happy Birthday, but at dinner the waiter made zero special mention ... no Happy Birthday and no little piece of this or that ... nothing. So if you are coming here to celebrate a birthday, remember to bring the party yourself. This place has gone the same road as many others in adding a 3% surcharge ... just for bothering to dine in I guess. Now it is not a lot of money, but it is a cheap idea for a classy place. I always vote for the establishment to raise prices across the board to take care of any expenses of running the business - and pay your people a living wage. Don't rely on a cheap dollar here or there to make a huge difference. Once again, it is just a charge that makes the restaurant look cheap. All in all could have been 4 stars. read more

I am so disappointed in Rosebud on Rush. I have been a huge fan for 20 years but this last time was so disappointing that I doubt I will return ever. The food is basic, the bread is absolutely terrible, and we were told they would not put the Cubs game on because corporate requires them to play Fox News only and prohibits staff from changing it even though we were there midday with only a few tables of people. So sad because I really used to think so highly of the experience there but not anymore. They remodeled last Fall and it does not look good. It no longer feels like a cozy special Italian restaurant. The service was good and I do appreciate that. There are too many great Italian restaurants, and as an Italian myself, this place is such a disappointment. read more

Throughly enjoyed the outdoor heated patio.... one of the nicely done patios for windy Chicago weather. Seating is tight but not terrible ... they are following all COVID19 protocols ... exceptional service and best of all Delicious food with gigantic Italian portions. We had mussels and lamb chops for appetizers , simply melt in your mouth and no sand in the mussels. I had the chicken Milanese, hubby had chicken Vesuvius, kids had cheese ravioli and seafood pasta. Dessert was chocolate fudge cake which was gigantic and they threw in some cannolis on the house for the teenagers bday. It was a wonderful experience dining out after such a long time. read more

let me say 3 words not a fan first of all sue me, i got there 10mins before brunch ended ... i get it, im not getting brunch. but neither should the people who got there at the same time as me. and that's what happened. i saw ppl seated at the same time get brunch while i wasn't allowed to. so that's the first thing. next the food was very mid, i came into the restaurant with no expectations and i left so unimpressed especially with the $$$ i also watched the servers split a plate for another table in two (the plate was originally made for one and they split it probably upon request of the table). The thing so me was how they did it, bare hands and all over this meal. It was unsettling to see it served like that i ordered a house salad with steak and didn't realize i'd be uncharged $20 for it but oh well it was good! my friends got meals that were way less impressive. someone else at the table got the chicken milanese and the chicken itself was okay but the pasta was so bad especially the red sauce! what a shame! another friend got the shrimp fettuccine (not pic to red) also not great read more

The prosciutto wasn't that great. My tortellini carbonara was salty, and it overpowered the entire meal. Honestly the only good thing about my dinning experience was the dessert. The coconut cake and the creme brulee were really flavorful. The cake was moist as well. read more

This restaurant was great. It was the first one I went to in Chicago and they set the bar high. The service was 10/10 and everyone was so kind. The espresso martini was so delicious and they use real espresso so that was a plus. The garlic knots were fantastic as well as the Arancini and Brussels sprouts. I didn't like the calamari texture but I am not a big calamari person so I think that's probably the reason. I would absolutely go back here for the servers alone and recommend it to anyone visiting. read more

It's so beautiful inside and out. We didn't have a reservation but luckily got seated outside pretty quickly. The eggplant salad I got was SO DELICIOUS. Crispy and fresh. And very filling. The worst thing we got was the seafood special that the waiter mentioned. When I tell you it was disgusting ... oh my gosh. Bottom of teh barrel trying to throw something together. I don't normally leave reviews but I've been unhappy with the service here a couple times. I went alone, for an early dinner and was asked if I was finished with my pasta 3 times within 15 mins and the bus boys just stare to get you out of there. While I appreciate how much help there is I don't appreciate being interrupted every l time I take a sip of water, it made for a very unpleasant meal. I made reservations for this restaurant three months in advance. And then called two days before the reservation to make sure we could either get a booth inside or a table outside on the patio. I was assured there would be no problem. We got there and the maître D said it would be a 40 minute wait for a booth and there were no tables on the outside patio. He was not accommodating at all or even that friendly. He wound up seating us down in the basement against a wall with zero view and a bunch of people all crowded in like cattle. Extremely extremely uncomfortable area to eat. You feel like you're in a dungeon or you're put down there because you're in a timeout because you've misbehaved. We were meeting another couple so we just decided to take that table. Miguel was our server and he was lovely. Pretty expansive menu. The food came out nice and hot with very large portions. The Chilean see bass melted in your mouth. The baked ziti was very flavorful and satisfying and the chicken Parmesan was really tasty as well. Not inexpensive by any means and not worth it if you've got to be stuffed in the basement. Overall, it would've been a really enjoyable experience had they not stuck us down there. And even after making these reservations so far in advance what's the point of reservations, if they don't honor them?! I would've given them 5 stars had the hostess not been so rude and they would've honored our reservation. read more

One of the other Rosebud restaurants told me about the breakup of the business and sale... and advised me to try it again. Eat inside downstairs for the best experience. Cozy and just a bit elegant. I have mixed feelings about my experience here but I maybe should have known something was up when I saw on their website that Rosebud is undergoing a transition. Per the website, I thought maybe the entire restaurant was changing from Italian to Mexican but speaking with the waitress, it seems like it may only be the first floor (out of three floors) but it seems like that was not even definite. I came here with my wife and 3 year old and we sat on the first floor which was being changed over to a Mexican theme. I have to wonder why the change because I honestly thought the change Italian food we ordered was absolutely delicious. Very fresh pasta and flavorful sauces. I've been here a handful of times before and was excited to come back and enjoy an authentic Italian dinner. I sat at the bar with the lovely but busy bartender and ordered a glass of red blend and asked for a recommendation for dinner. She recommended the bolognese (I judge Italian food on their bolognese) and was happy with the choice. When it came out, the color was almost gray and the flavor was BLAND. All I could think of when I was eating it was Gordon Ramsay yelling UGH BLAND. ITS BLAAAAND. And it was. 0 stars for the food. I've made hamburger helper better than their bolognese. The only positive thing out of this experience was the bartender. Thanks Katherine! I had a few bites, paid my tab and walked to Eataly for a more enjoyable dinner. Skip this place and go to gene and Georgetti's or viaggio. read more

Visited lunch time Monday March 31, 2025. Sat in the outdoor section which was just okay. Our table was so wobbly it was annoying. Service was MEH and the food we ordered, Spaghetti and Meatballs came with some kind of bland rolls, not Italian bread, were even less desirable. We have been to other Rosebud locations many, many times and this location did not even come close to our expectations of a Rosebud Restaurant. This place is now one of nostalgia if I am in town. My partner introduced this place to me with it being one of his traditional meals when he's in Chicago and I can see why. You feel the Chicago Italian vibe as soon as you walk in and the dinner service follows up with it. Their witty, smart-assy, attentive, and made sure we were pleased with everything we were served. Spicy pasta. Amazing. Chicken parm. Amazing. Garden salad. Amazing. House Italian red. Amazing. Don't need to be a snob about food all the time but if you can make staples that are of quality and make you feel good, you've done your job and they did. My long time friend and I have been coming here for years - they have the best sausage and peppers ever! We had a nice caprese salad, and had the sausage and peppers for our main meal. Can I just say... one of the best Italian food I've EVER had. Place a FANCY! I had the Norwegian Salmon Piccata with spinach ($35) and Jose had the Zito. MINE WAS SO MUCH BETTER HEHE! But wow must go to place!!!!! I finished the whole thing. Then we finished with the fudge cake and chocolate cream cheese frosting.. amazing. Just absolutely amazing.
