Best of all Nick was super at communicating - he always told me when they would arrive and kept me up to speed on what the next steps would be. He was very hands on and extremely detailed oriented. Was looking for a general contractor who can work on a significant whole home remodel when I called Rose City Construction. I spoke to Nick who informed me that they're booked solidly until Spring of 2018 and as such, are currently focusing on kitchen and bath remodels only. While this was an information gathering phone call for me, I appreciated that Nick still took the time to answer my questions without feeling like I was being rushed off the phone. He also provided some good recommendations on what to look for in contractors and in hiring architects. It's rare that business owners are this helpful even when you're a customer, let alone someone calling for information, so to have Nick spend some of his time chatting with me was great. I am fortunate to have worked with Nick through 3 major jobs over the past few years in my residence here in Pasadena. Nick is a perfectionist, so all three of the jobs were perfect. They were complex jobs, as I live in a 1909 craftsman style house which always presents a problem. Previous jobs by other people 30 years ago were not done correctly, and Nick fixed everything, corrected nightmare work of others, and left me with perfection. My wife and I had no idea of the practical options, including tile and fixture selections, lighting, etc, and Nick patiently walked us through potential options and provided his contacts to us. Without Nick, we would have gone to a big box supplier and ended up with junk. So trust him with your kitchen, your bathroom, with any project. They did an amazing job on my dishwasher and the guys were so nice and helpful. I wish I could tell you more about the specifics of what they did and how hahaha. All I know is before I had a crappy dishwasher, and now I have a big beautiful one. They ran into a few problems along the way but solved all of them. The gentleman I spoke with argued with me and treated me like I was an idiot. It was a bad start. Since finding them, I have done about one major job per year: kitchen tile backsplash, master bath renovation, exterior painting, full plumbing retrofitting, renovating my dirty basement into a beautiful storage room. Nick and his company were recommended by a co-worker who was already having his 3rd home remodel project done by Rose City Construction. We couldn't have been happier with the tip! Nick very clearly laid out the scope of work and scheduling, walked us through every step of the process, and helped us find vendors for flooring, tile, counter tops and lighting where he was able to pass on a discount. He helped us find a less expensive vendor to remove asbestos flooring and popcorn ceiling for the project, smoothed and primed all the walls and ceilings, installed pre-made cabinets that we had ordered, put in engineered hardwood flooring, installed quartz counter tops, lighting, and a gorgeous subway tile backsplash, and flawlessly installed all of our new appliances along with the necessary new plumbing and electrical. Nick and his crew were professional, always on time, and we were impressed with how clean and ordered they left our home at the end of each day. Our 3 year old looked forward to the crew's arrival every morning, and no matter how busy they were, Nick and Gary always made time to talk with him and show him the tools and materials he was interested in. They are a class act. I really felt like we never had to worry about the quality of the work they did in our home. Nick and his crew WANTED to do a good job. Rose City Construction never cut corners and even went the extra mile on taking care of things that we didn't think to ask about or know to care about. We had pipes running to our kitchen sink that were not correctly positioned within the framing of the house, and not only did they re-route everything correctly, they even put in insulation where there never had been any before. I got a call one rainy day because some of our vents were leaking on the roof. Nick went out then and there to buy sealant and he and his crew climbed onto our roof in the rain to make everything ok. The job was completed efficiently and our beautiful kitchen was done during the quicker time frame of the estimate. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate Rose City Construction at a 10 plus from start to finish. Past experience has taught me the importance of having and maintaining an open line of communication with my contractor. Nick Kalandjian did not disappoint. Nick is an excellent communicator, takes charge, resolves problems, and exacts a standard of excellence from his employees. The kitchen renovation was completed within 3 months, all with a minimum of inconvenience to me considering that the gutted kitchen required an extensive plumbing and electrical upgrade at the outset. We recently wanted to remodel our hallway bathroom, so we called three contractors for consultation. This being our first remodel we really liked Rose City Construction because Nick had great design ideas and explained the details and process of the project. He also told us our house was built before 1980 and that we needed to have a lead and asbestos test done. He provided us a contact to a third party specializing in these tests. They found asbestos in the drywall, so Nick had an abatement company do the demo. Nick and his crew did an amazing job remodeling the bathroom. They pay close attention to detail and explain the entire process step by step. They took care of all permits and drawings for the project. They were there for all the inspections. Nick also helped with the shopping and provided us discounts on all the products. The project came out better then we expected. We will definitely be calling Rose City back to remodel our kitchen and our other bathroom early next year. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Nick and his team at Rose City Construction. He just finished a remodel of the masterbath in our Pasadena condo and we're already talking to him about remodeling the guest bath next. The quality of the work is outstanding and, throughout the entire process, Nick was incredibly kind, professional and made us feel at ease. He communicated clearly and often, gave us options (and explained the reasoning behind those options and the pros and cons of each). The crew was wonderful as well, top-notch in their areas of expertise, respectful of our home and great at daily clean-up to minimize the disruption to our lives.
