A couple of months ago, we hired FHS Construction to repair storm damage to our home, and the experience could not have gone better. After the Eaton Fire, heavy winds and rain had blown away and damaged shingles on our roof. Water began leaking into one of our bedrooms and left water spots on the dining room ceiling. What could have been a nightmare repair project turned into a smooth and reassuring process thanks to the team at FHS Construction. From the start, the crew was thorough in their inspection and diagnosis. They quickly identified the source of the leak and checked for hidden damage in the roof and ceilings. To prevent more water from coming in, they put up a temporary cover right away until the full repair could begin. The roof repair itself was handled professionally from top to bottom. Damaged shingles and underlayment were removed and replaced, everything was thoroughly inspected and sealed tightly to prevent future problems. Inside the bedroom, they removed water-damaged drywall and insulation, treated and cleaned areas affected by moisture and mold, and ensured the space was completely dried out before restoring it. When the remediation was complete, they patched everything up with new drywall, fresh paint, trim work and new carpet so the room looked as good as new. The same attention was given to the dining area ceiling where water spots had formed. The crew was consistently punctual--showing up on time every morning--and respectful of our home. They cleaned up after themselves daily, and even arranged for a professional cleaner to come through once the project was finished, which was a thoughtful touch. A special shoutout goes to Javier, the project manager. He kept us informed at every stage, explained what was happening, and always had answers for our questions. He also went above and beyond by helping us communicate with our insurance provider, State Farm. His guidance made a big difference in getting a fair payout to cover the damages. Just completed a master bath remodel. I've had the unfortunate fortune, of working on over 20 some plus homes, all of which have had some type of construction, remodeling, or contracting work done on them. From foundation to roof... everything inside and out I pretty much did everything... "jack of all trades master of few" I was also a consultant on many multimillion dollar, construction and installations, so I have had a pretty broad perspective of worksites and Customer inner-face as I have sat on both sides of the aisle. As far as project managers go Javier Basso was a diamond in the rough. When we first met Javier, his quiet, even tempered calming presence Made me question my previous conception of contractors, which are usually pretty strong willed, opinionated, confident to a fault, and at times lacking ongoing empathy, as projects and conflict arise. Not to mention the endless calls they have to answer on the daily. I've also had the overzealous logo wearing polo shirt project managers, who couldn't tell you the difference between a Flathead and a pan head screw. Nor why a right Angle and levels are critical to any project. Javier Basso had a broad knowledge of mechanical and workmanship details needed in a high-quality remodeling project. If I had a question about some type of Repair, and Javier did not the answer, he will inquire and find the correct answer. FHC's General contractor's license holder is "Ferdy" he was quiet, helpful, informed and in a few minutes, put me at rest as he appeared to be someone who is in the prime of his contracting years. After receiving three bids, all of which were within 1000 or $2000 of each other we decided to go with FHC. The project did run a couple weeks late, as just about every project I've ever worked on has, but their workmanship and their ability to correct issues that the customer felt was wrong was near effortless. Javier made us feel valued and always had a positive attitude. I have a medium size project coming up and would use FHC again. The caveat is they appeared to be getting very busy but worth the consultation and call. If you've had construction projects, go awry as many of them do it would be worth the wait for FHC. They actually realize that their construction site was my home. It is amazing how many workers forget the concept that their worksite is where someone sleeps at night. Having to remind someone to sweep the floors, pick up their discarded nails or tire damaging screws is no longer a viable option. I am done asking adults to clean take their trash and clear The doorway. Javier made it all happen seamlessly At the end of the day, they cleaned up and left your home as clean as responsibly able. The business owner Ferdy has built a team of talented and hardworking professionals who delivered on a rather complex project with a lot of details. Our house is more than 100 years old and FHS was attentive to our requests in ensuring that the new construction would integrate the existing structure seamlessly. Of all the people on the FHS team, in addition to Ferdy, we interacted with Elias, Antonio, Henry, and Gelson the most. Elias was the project manager, and he was patient, poised, responsive, polite, and organized. He was very flexible in adapting his project management workflow to our needs. Elias was particularly adept at cultivating a good working relationship with inspectors from day 1. Working with FHS Construction was one of the best decisions we made with our new home! To say we're happy is an understatement. We were given their contact through our agent who swore by their work on many of his own properties so we knew we were good hands. But seeing is definitely believing. This was also during Covid and they wore masks the whole time. WHAT WE HAD FHS CONSTRUCTION DO: - Replaced all florescent with recessed lighting - Changed electrical panel - Install bath surround, shower, and toilet - Install kitchen backsplash and pendant lighting - All kitchen electrical and plumbing - All demolitions and cleanup included This was our very first home renovation project but Ferdy, the owner, and Elias, the project manager, were really easy to talk to, listened to our needs and walked us through the entire process from beginning to end. Even when things needed to be changed, they were accommodating and did everything in a courteous and timely manner. We've heard of nightmares working with other contractors but we had NO ISSUES -- they came when they said and finished when they said. They even come back to fix items if we had any concerns. Even our questions were answered with a few texts. NO GHOSTING! In terms of quality, it was TOP NOTCH. We had old florescent lights in the home and wanted to replace it all with recessed lighting. Everything came out seamless even with the texture and wall color that was already there. They don't cut corners or tried to hide anything. Everything feels like it had been done purposefully and nothing DIY about it at all! They tried to make sure everything was as economical as possible but made sure their workmanship was still A+. It was great also because other than specific items we wanted, the parts like the lights, paint, piping, wiring, switches etc. they include in the estimate so we never had to sweat the small stuff. The biggest project for us was the kitchen and even though we had another company reface/build cabinets and install countertops, FHS made sure to point out things that they noticed so that the other company could fix. Now everything looks so incredible. Our neighbors are all jealous! Bottom line, we were looking for QUALITY workmanship vs the cheapest. We knew that what they were going to do was exactly what we wanted with no issues in the future so we were happy to pay for QUALITY. We had our roof done, some new windows retrofitted and our three story house-on-the-side-of-a-hill repainted in 3 tones. The short of it is that it looks amazing - literally strangers off the street comment on how great it looks. It might not seem like much to paint a house, but this particular house required 5 stories of scaffolding (on a 3 story house), extensive siding replacement, trim pieces, the aforementioned windows and even a deck railing and decorative overhang which he built to spec. without architectural drawings. When problems arose, he was a pleasure to deal with; easy to get a hold of, eager to solve problems, and an all around nice guy. He's the kind of guy you'd be happy to have a beer with in one moment and then just as happily get down to brass tax with. FHS did such a great job remodeling the master bathroom at our home in Burbank; so, when we got a fixer-upper condo in Oceanside, Ferdy, Elias, and their team were the first contractor we thought of to help us with the remodel. The condo had most of the original fixtures from the 80s and required a full facelift (see before and after pics). FHS replaced the floors and kitchen countertops, installed a new kitchen sink/faucet and new ceiling fans, and did a total remodel of the bathroom - replacing the old tub/shower with a new tiled shower. The best part about working with FHS again was knowing I could trust them to do quality work with little supervision. I told Elias what I wanted, gave him the keys, and let FHS do all the work in Oceanside while I worked from home in Burbank.
