Day

We highly recommend Erik Quiel for any remodeling and/or new construction you may need! He built our home before we purchased it, and the level of quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail is second to none. The quality of life living in this house day-to-day is incredible, and the number of compliments we get is off the charts too. It's clear he and his team take pride in his projects and don't cut corners. We are so impressed with the home, and others' reviews of his past work, that we engaged him to oversee adding in a new pool as well, a significant undertaking. He did not disappoint! Erik was personally on site every single day, often multiple times a day, ensuring that everything was progressing timely and according to plan. We had a specific vision and would regularly discuss the details as everything came to fruition. As milestones would be completed, the next step was nearing, and/or the inevitable hiccup would arise Erik offered his thoughts and expertise on what he thought may be best, and if something may look odd or so, allowing for details to be confirmed or tweaked to avoid any potential issues for either of us. His input on these discussions were invaluable and made for an even better finished product. He gave a detailed quote and he delivered on our vision perfectly and on budget. The one time something wasn't done the way we wanted he had already caught the mistake and the ripping out the tile for a redo was already underway. My father worked in remodeling for 30+ years, and I've never seen a contractor so involved and invested in projects. He was constantly in communication and wanted to make sure that we were happy. I truly can not recommend Erik enough. Definitely engage him in your next project. He's the contractor you want!

Most people can say they dread construction on their homes and having to deal with remodeling. I can honestly say hiring Erik was a great decision when we were looking for contractors. He came highly recommended and after meeting with a few before him we knew right away he was our guy. He was upfront, honest and had really great design ideas. All of his subcontractors were fantastic. Everything was smooth from start to finish and I could not have been more happy. Top notch.

Erik oversaw the construction of our hillside Pool and Deck and did a great job. Erik stood by us as we went through a difficult permit approval process. He came up with creative solutions to make the most our project. This was a big job that included drilling and filling ten caissons for support, some of which were 40 feet deep. We are ecstatic over the final job.

New Exterior facelift by Erik Quiel.

I called around to other contractors who were over priced, and had a difficult time understanding that I had a budget to work with. Erik jumped in and took on the project. Although he was busy, he knew that it was important to me and my family- and that this remodel was going to get their house on the market for them to retire. It went from a mini facelift to a remodel. What I love about Erik is that you get honest feedback in real-time, he provides multiple solutions at different price points and allows you to make the best one in consideration of your own budget. As much as he says he's not good at picking out interior design stuff, he actually has a great eye for it. He knows how to make rooms functional and what homeowners today want out of their homes. I highly recommend working with Erik Quiel.

Within a few business days, he had all the interior renderings done. Being able to see what was going to be built was really nice. His creativity and initiative sold me. (I also checked reviews and those looked good.) My ADU project was finished on time (including time for permits) and on budget. Guil's responsiveness was excellent. He was always available to address my questions and concerns. He always made sure the work was correct. Foundation footer trench digging started on March 18th and Final Inspection was signed off the first week of September.

From the moment I first sat down with Eyal Weizman of MDRN Construction, I knew he would be my…read morechosen contractor for my kitchen remodel. We seemed to speak the same aesthetic language and he quickly and enthusiastically whipped up a rendering of what my kitchen might look like. He was also very sensitive to and willing to do great work within my budgetary constraints. I immediately knew I would be in good hands. My kitchen remodel was for a very narrow space that had had a double electric oven and a big fancy gas range. The old cabinets, which were solid wood, had likely been there since the house was built in the 50s. An unfortunate water leak did major damage to the wood floor and seeped into the 2 layers of asbestos-laden linoleum underneath. Due to the need for asbestos remediation as required by my insurance (and the law), I was literally forced to see my entire kitchen torn out to the studs -- cabinets, appliances, floors and all. Enter MDRN Construction - after unsatisfactory experiences with the contractors my insurance had set me up with, I finally realized I must choose my own. In short, MDRN came in on-time and on-budget. Any out-of-line costs beyond the original estimate were due to major upgrades or amenities that I asked for on my own, with absolutely no arm-twisting from the contractor or his crew. For example, we were needing to upgrade the electrical in order to accommodate new all-electric and induction appliances, as well as replace the floor complete with framing and subflooring. I therefore also opted for raising the floor in the (sunken) kitchen annex to have it all be on the same level and to move the new commodious refrigerator in there. This upgrade also involved raising the exit door to the side yard and creating new concrete steps to the outside. Even with this extra work, MDRN still came in on time, though at the outer rather than the inner range of their estimated time frame (three months instead of two). I also have nothing but high marks to give the various crews that did the work, from demolition to electrical to cabinetry, to plumbing, dry wall construction, painting, and tile flooring. Everyone that came to my house, as Eyal promised, was a pleasure to be around and highly professional -- efficient and meticulous. The Ukrainian-born cabinet installation crew (in-house to MDRN), especially, were master carpenters and the finished product with solid wood exteriors is a showpiece. And absolutely everyone graciously pitched in when something extra was required, like hoisting my giant new refrigerator through the only possible square opening in the kitchen wall when the delivery guys couldn't possibly handle it themselves. Eyal came by frequently to check whether everything was going smoothly and what was still needed. And the most consistent presence was his assistant construction manager, Bardia, for whom no task or issue was too large or too small. He handled everything in a timely manner with ease and aplomb. If you're looking for excellent work, excellent client relations, honesty and efficiency, and a great aesthetic partner to work with, then MDRN is a terrific choice. The only advice I would give anyone who plans to live in their home while any pretty major construction is going on, is to stay on top of the daily dust-prevention and cleanup. As great as the workmen are, this is not always their topmost priority. The photos are of the "to the studs" space in the transition phase and my wonderful new kitchen.

Project manager Josef was excellent in bringing in his partners (designers, foreman, etc.) to ensure from the design to finish we were collaborating and satisfied with the end result. For the garage, we had it drywalled (no insulation), installation of a attic ladder (bought from Home Depot) to make use of a pre-built storage area, updated garage door and exterior lighting. Front yard included adding extra pavement to be able to park two cars on the driveway (we have the pre WW II one car driveway) but looks like a part of the front yard design, installation of artificial grass (YAY), redo of the front porch to include redoing the porch ceiling with a bare wood look, and installation of a pathway to the front steps. We had 3 home improvement projects in the last couple of years (including this project) and WTG Builders was the best in terms of responsiveness, communication, and setting expectations. Perhaps I'm more wiser too about projects but I appreciated Project Manager Josef's communication and updates and the various trade teams were fantastic. I also took into consideration their work in the local Long Beach/Lakewood area which I think is important. I would use them again and recommend them for similar projects!

Three of those projects were on a 1920s Spanish triplex, where we modernized all the units while preserving its original character, including converting a three-car garage into an ADU. Gary's extremely easy to work with, communicative, reliable, and cares about the quality of his work. His subs are solid, his pricing is reasonable, and he's always been accommodating when little extras come up outside the original scope. He is a competent professional and trusted contractor with a solid team of subcontractors who have been doing this work for decades. With this renovation, we brought our 1912 Craftsman bungalow down to the studs. This was a full-gut renovation that involved replacing all mechanicals, drywall, new bathrooms, new kitchen and doing a primary bath addition. With Gary's construction expertise, we were able to restore the home while maintaining its original charm and bring our design to life. Some of Gary's many contributions included framing a new tray/drop ceiling, installing custom window and door casings to match the originals. He also rebuilt the front porch railings and reinforced the porch ceiling so it would accommodate a porch swing. He built our backyard studio shed in just a couple days and it's adorable. While nearly everything is new, you can't tell. And that is a compliment to the quality of craftsmanship. Gary doesn't cut corners and it shows. It is very important that you trust your contractor and that they have integrity and do what they say they are going to do. Experience is also very important. Gary has all of this. We will definitely be calling Gary for the next house we buy. We can't recommend him enough.
