The planning process took a bit longer than what we initially planned for. The county of LA took their sweet time approving our plans. Fortunately, after 2 sets of revisions we were fully approved. The construction wasn't bad at all, they had plenty of guys working on our home at the same time. The only time there was no work, was on inspection days. The finishes was one thing that was extremely important for us. My wife and I are detail oriented and wanted to make sure we're choosing the right company to do the finish work correctly. All I can say is that they exceeded my expectations. I had a rough vision in mind for fitting a lot into a relatively small space, but wanted to see the options rendered so I could better make the big layout and design decisions. Alexis was very patient and super helpful in mocking up each iteration until we locked in the final design. Once it was time to actually break ground, Gil, Oren, Uriel, and the rest of the team were really responsive and always available by text. Unlike previous contractors we've worked with, they usually gave us an idea of what was happening the next day/week and who to expect onsite. The first ~70% of the project went really smoothly and far exceeded my expectations. Demo, framing, rough plumbing, and electrical all largely went without a hitch. We ran into some problems towards the end around communication, timeline, and subcontractor oversight -- which led to more delays when someone punctured our new in-wall toilet tank and flooded both the bathroom and bedroom. We know every construction job runs into challenges so we weren't bent out of shape by it, and we did appreciate that GHB took full responsibility for fixing the issues. By and large we were really impressed by most of their subcontractors, especially the very professional and considerate plumbing, electrical, and tiling teams! After living with our new bathroom for a while now, we can definitely say it was worth the wait, and such a huge improvement over our previous dysfunctional layout. Ed and Jose are good salesman. That's about as far as it goes. We were told the 677 sq. ft. ADU…read morewould take between 4 to 6 months. Worst case scenario 6 months. It took 2 years. Just about every part of the build needed to be addressed from the mistakes that were made. The foundation needed to be moved because they said they didn't need the surveyor to stake it because they should be very close. When the inspector came out before the pour, they were of by an inch for the 4 foot clearance. The inspector made them move it. They fell so far behind they were doing drywall before the windows were installed. Only one window was in the right location. All the ruff openings had to be moved. The soffit for the kitchen cabinets was framed wrong. Just about every faze of the build needed to be corrected. We went through 7 project managers. Luckily I have some knowledge about construction and was able to pick up these mistakes before it became a bigger problem. Having my brother in law as the architect didn't hurt either. The only thing I can say is the ADU came out nice. If you think you can deal with this type of experience, by all means go for it. Oh forgot one thing. On the day of an inspection the inspector had to be escorted by the fire department because they hit my gas line. The next day they hit it again. Instead of following the line they started where they wanted to finish and hit it again. Think carefully in your disiscion.

In February, my wife and I had a house fire. On a recommendation from a friend, we met Karin S. of WIC Construction Services. We liked Karin immediately on a personal level. We already knew she did quality work from our friend's experience, what we needed was someone who did both quality work and was someone we could lean on and also someone who knew how to work with the insurance company. Karin was extremely patient with us, walking us through the necessary steps. There were portions of the rebuild that the insurance company was going to cover and portions that we were going to pay for on our own because as long as we were getting a whole new interior, we figured we might as well do it the way we wanted. Karin easily worked within our budget while also dealing with the insurance company every step of the way. This really mattered to us. WIC Constructions Services employs a full team. Karin was on site often, but her team worked very well she was on other jobs. They take care of everything from drywall to plumbing to painting. I should note that my wife and I happen to have a close family friend who is an electrician and we were insistent that whatever contractor we worked with would work with our electrician. Karin couldn't have been more accommodating and worked well with a subcontractor who wasn't her regular electrician. Just as importantly, she understood that it was important to us that our friend handle the rewiring and other electrical needs and she willingly worked with our person. It was really important to us that she get to know us and get to know our taste and she did that.
