In February, my wife and I had a house fire. The dishwasher burst into flames (according to a firefighter, this is something that happens with plastic lined dishwashers - go check yours) and long story short, the interior of our house was totaled. All that survived was the roof and the exterior walls. This matters because we didn't plan on a rebuild or remodel and we were also dealing with the emotional toll of losing most of our belongings. It was a stressful time and at the same time we had to move fast to hire a contractor. The insurance company wouldn't put us up in a rental unit forever. On a recommendation from a friend, we met Karin S. of WIC Construction Services. We liked Karin immediately on a personal level. We already knew she did quality work from our friend's experience, what we needed was someone who did both quality work and was someone we could lean on and also someone who knew how to work with the insurance company. Karin was extremely patient with us, walking us through the necessary steps. There were portions of the rebuild that the insurance company was going to cover and portions that we were going to pay for on our own because as long as we were getting a whole new interior, we figured we might as well do it the way we wanted. Karin easily worked within our budget while also dealing with the insurance company every step of the way. This really mattered to us. WIC Constructions Services employs a full team. Karin was on site often, but her team worked very well she was on other jobs. They take care of everything from drywall to plumbing to painting. I should note that my wife and I happen to have a close family friend who is an electrician and we were insistent that whatever contractor we worked with would work with our electrician. Karin couldn't have been more accommodating and worked well with a subcontractor who wasn't her regular electrician. Just as importantly, she understood that it was important to us that our friend handle the rewiring and other electrical needs and she willingly worked with our person. We ended up with a whole new house (the inside anyway) and we couldn't be more pleased. Karin had great ideas on designs and worked really hard to create something that was our style. It was really important to us that she get to know us and get to know our taste and she did that. At the same time, Karin had great ideas and suggestions - she knew so much more than we did about remodeling and because of the fire and the deadlines imposed by the insurance company we weren't able to just take as long as we wanted to make decisions. At some level, drywall is drywall. Installing cabinets is installing cabinets. Putting in tiles is putting in tiles. Unless you end up working with someone crooked, any good contractor can do the basics. (Though I have to say, Karin and her team had wonderful attention to detail.) What sets Karin and WIC Construction Services apart is the humane and supportive way you will be treated. Yes, Karin has a great eye for design and detail and her team is talented and easy to work with. But just as important is you will find yourself working with someone who not only knows her stuff, but someone who really cares about you and your project. The remodeling process is never easy and deciding where to start and who to choose is the hardest part but reaching out to WIC was the best! First I love a lady owned business and let me tell you these ladies brought what construction and contracting needed!!! They were extremely detail oriented and did an amazing and fast job of remodeling my kitchen & bathrooms. When I initially contacted Karin at WIC, she was quick to respond and came to my home to discuss a total home renovation. Construction started mid-February with a completion date of up to three months. With the pandemic starting shortly after they began construction, I was fearful that the job would be delayed. However, Karin and her team continued to work Monday through Saturday while following social distancing and wearing the proper PPE. I was able to live in my home during construction in sectioned off portions and her team was always respectful of my space and privacy. Amazingly, the job was completed prior to the 3 month timeframe! Karin and her team were quick and efficient, as well as clean. They always did their best to meet my high expectations and had a friendly and professional attitude at all times. Karin was on the job site daily, remained in constant communication, and was always upbeat and positive. Karin's manager, Pedro, always "puts the customer first" and did whatever was asked of him. He is an absolute sweetheart of a man, and a joy to work with. My home was built in 1922 and I've lived in it for over 45 years with very little work ever having been done up until Karin's renovation. My home is now absolutely beautiful! Karin and Rudy just left and I couldn't be more pleased. I needed a kitchen cabinet raised to make room for a new refrigerator. Karin responded quickly asking for a picture. After a short conversation, she said her guy was in the area and could come take a look. Well, she and Rudy both came. I knew it was a small job but they assured me no job was too small. I reached out to several contractors when we needed some repairs and bathroom remodel. Karin's responsiveness, clear communications and creativity on concepts for the remodel really stood out. Despite the challenges with COVID-19 and the restrictions placed the during the renovations, Karin and Pedro adapted to work with their suppliers and glass workers to ensure that the progress could continue (and add a much needed bathroom for use during the shutdown).
