I reached out to MDM back in early 2025 and met with Mike right away so he could look at my property and walk me through what my wife and I wanted for our project. Throughout the entire process, Mike was very professional and the level of expertise he exhibited was obvious. Before Mike, I had met with 3 other contractors to compare services and quotes but what sealed the deal for me was the 3D render service Mike offered. It was affordable and it would be free if you end up going with MDM for your remodel. Mike was able to get the renderings to me very quickly and made adjustments whenever we wanted to change something. Seeing the details of the renderings really brought what we were envisioning to life and helped with the design process. Fast forward to beginning of demo/construction, Mike's employees were impressively fast and efficient at their jobs, but what really impressed me was how clean they kept our property after each day of work. And that stated true throughout the entire process of our 7 month renovation. During construction, if there were any last minute changes, Mike would always try to cater to our needs whenever possible. Even if subcontractors made mistakes with anything, Mike would make sure it is fixed and perfect right away. Keep in mind, you can't rely on Mike for everything (as much as you might want to). You really do have to do your research (in terms of design, finishing materials, sourcing those materials, and getting them delivered on time) and know exactly what you want and how you want it, that way, Mike can plan and put into action what needs to be done. After this entire process, we are extremely happy we got this project completed with MDM. What really sets them apart is the quality of work, dependability, and the great people that work for MDM. Our new ADU is done and we love it. Mike and the MDM crew did an outstanding job from start to finish. Mike, the owner, gave us an upfront price that came in well below the other bids we got, and he held to it. Mike did the design work with me directly. There was a design fee up front, but he credited it back in full against the construction quote once we moved forward, so it ended up costing us nothing. The process was a normal iterative back-and-forth. Other contractors handed over cookie-cutter plans and wanted to charge for any changes. When the city reversed course on our original plans (they initially said we could build over part of the driveway, then denied it after submission), Mike designed a cantilever so we could keep our full square footage on a smaller footprint. He didn't raise the price, even though the new build cost him more. Mike also handled the logistics: submitting plans to the city, pulling the permits, coordinating with the electric company, and everything in between. He was patient with our requests and solution-oriented when things went sideways. The finished house looks and feels great. The framing is solid and square, the drywall and trim work are clean, the tile work in the bathrooms is really nicely done, and the windows and doors all seal properly. We wanted to convert our garage into an ADU and started looking for contractors for the new job. We decided to choose MDM after seeing all the positive reviews and having a great first impression from the initial meeting with Shawn. Throughout the design phase Mike was extremely patient and helpful in guiding us to find the best floor plan. He was very patient in listening to our feedback to make multiple 2D and 3D renderings and explaining our feasible options. With his input, we finally decided on a 500 sq.ft floor plan with 1 BR/1BA, in-unit laundry, and full kitchen. Mike quickly secured the necessary permits in 3 months and demo literally began the next day after approval. Throughout the entire construction period of 5 months, we were very impressed with the level of communication and engagement. We predominantly used WhatsApp to ask questions, get updates, and see photos of the work in progress. However, when needed, he also offered to meet in person, over the phone, or do a video conference to clarify any questions we had. Mike responded to our concerns and questions in a very timely fashion with a high level of professionalism and respect. The workers were all very courteous, hard-working, and skillful in their specific job tasks. We hear horror stories from our friends about how their projects were delayed for months, how workers didn't show up on many days, how they could not reach their GC, or how their GC would add change orders and balloon the cost. Mike never did any of this. Everything is laid out clearly in the contract and any questions we had were communicated promptly. Mike is very knowledgeable, organized, and experienced. It is evident that he takes great pride in his work and his crew. We are extremely satisfied with the final product - a brand new ADU where you can really see the quality work that was put into it. I am incredibly pleased that we hired MDM custom remodeling. Mike, the owner and General Contractor, is one of the most communicative GC we could have asked for. Not only did he go out of his way to communicate well, but he never took more than a few hours to respond to us throughout the 6 months we worked with him. In addition, he and his team were fast and efficient. As an example, early in the process, our permits expired without our knowledge and Mike jumped in to help us secure the new permits immediately. We are very very pleased with our bathroom renovation experience led by Shawn and the MDM crew. Although we had a general idea of what we wanted, we went back and forth with the location of the tub and the vanity size. I'm not sure if I'm going to move forward with the job I'm planning because of cost. Shawn did ask me to leave a review to help educate anyone that might be interested. Along with my request for an estimate I sent him a couple of drawings and a video for the bathroom. He called me back in a timely fashion. We talked over the phone for a bit, during which time he was able to give me a ballpark figure as to cost and how long it would take. Of course, if we decide to move forward he'd come over to assess the job in person to give us a better idea. Unfortunately, this company doesn't have any companies they work with that do financing. We called MDM to help us with a garage conversion into a 2 bed 2 bath ADU. Mike was very responsive, gave us a detailed plan with 3 D rendering. we revised the design multiple times until we're happy with the final design. MDM handled all city permits quickly and professionally. the city permits took 6 months for approval. The construction started the next day, and within 6 months the ADU was finished. 2 months later we had final inspection signed off and ready to move in. Throughout the process, Mike was super responsive and communicated every thing very well and promptly. We were kept informed of all the updates on a daily basis. The craftsmanship is amazing and we are. Wry happy with the final result. I am writing this review 2 and a half years after the end of the construction. We had to follow up with MDM on a water leak that happened after a major rain storm. they checked the foundation and found an area in the wall that needed better insulation. They redid the whole wall including stucco and painting 1 year after construction, then followed up again 2 years after construction, no questions asked. I was very impressed with the integrity and professionalism that this company has. Price of construction is in line with what would be expected for a quality work. I highly recommend them. read more
