We had a vision, and Mike brought it to life! We've tackled our fair share of remodel projects over the years, but nothing quite prepared us for the leap into a complete, ground-up ADU build. We knew this wasn't a project to hand off to just anyone, we needed a true expert, someone who could steer us through every twist and turn with confidence. That's exactly what we found in Mike. From our very first meeting, Mike had a calm, reassuring presence that told us we were in good hands. He listened closely to our vision, asked the right questions, and laid out a clear path forward that immediately put our minds at ease. And trust us, our minds needed easing, we came to him with a steady stream of nervous, sometimes repetitive questions, and he never once made us feel like a burden. He answered every single one with patience, warmth, and genuine reassurance. Communication was a true highlight of working with Mike. He kept us updated at every stage, so we always knew exactly where things stood. What could have been an incredibly stressful, all-consuming process instead felt manageable, even exciting. He also took the reins on coordinating with city inspectors throughout the entire build, handling all the back-and-forth so we didn't have to lift a finger. That alone lifted a massive weight off our shoulders. And the icing on the cake? He finished the entire project ahead of the estimated timeline, without ever cutting corners on quality or care. If you're on the fence about a big build like this, let us save you the trouble: call Mike. He turned what could have been an overwhelming experience into one we're genuinely grateful for, and the final result speaks for itself. We couldn't recommend him more highly. read more

MDM recently completed a 200+ sqft addition on our home that turned out very well. All of Mike's crews performed excellent work: the tiler who ensured multiple waterproofing layers and a mortar bed, the glass specialist who made custom windows, the painters who somehow made the cheap doors I bought look expensive, etc etc. Mike coordinates this "ballet" well so that nearly every day there was a crew here working to complete the project. Mike applies his experience well with smart changes to the plans that we wouldn't have thought of, and was flexible when we had questions or changes to make. Mike and all of his crews were professional, courteous, and very accommodating (we lived in the house during construction!). Overall we're very happy with Mike as a contractor and with the completed addition! read more

MDM completed our full home remodel in 2021, we recently noticed some paint peeling on the roof fascia. We reached out to Mike and he promptly scheduled his crew to address it. It gives us such peace of mind to know we chose a contractor who honors their work and follows through, even five years later. As it turns out, the paint peeling was actually caused by old termite damage and was not an issue with MDM's original paint job. read more

We picked MDM Custom Remodeling to remodel our main primary bathroom and honestly it turned out great. Shawn was our main contact and he was great to work with, always answered fast whenever we texted or called, and made sure we understood what was going on at every step. If anything came up he fixed it right away. The crew was professional and worked hard. They actually took the time to ask what we wanted before jumping in, which we appreciated. We had some tricky spots in our shower head and ended up having to change it twice to get it right, but they didn't rush it or cut corners, they just kept at it until it looked the way we wanted. Honestly one of the easiest experiences we've had with a contractor. Thanks Shawn and the whole team for our new bathroom! read more

I reached out to MDM back in early 2025 and met with Mike right away so he could look at my property and walk me through what my wife and I wanted for our project. Throughout the entire process, Mike was very professional and the level of expertise he exhibited was obvious. Before Mike, I had met with 3 other contractors to compare services and quotes but what sealed the deal for me was the 3D render service Mike offered. It was affordable and it would be free if you end up going with MDM for your remodel. Mike was able to get the renderings to me very quickly and made adjustments whenever we wanted to change something. Seeing the details of the renderings really brought what we were envisioning to life and helped with the design process. Fast forward to beginning of demo/construction, Mike's employees were impressively fast and efficient at their jobs, but what really impressed me was how clean they kept our property after each day of work. And that stated true throughout the entire process of our 7 month renovation. During construction, if there were any last minute changes, Mike would always try to cater to our needs whenever possible. Even if subcontractors made mistakes with anything, Mike would make sure it is fixed and perfect right away. Keep in mind, you can't rely on Mike for everything (as much as you might want to). You really do have to do your research (in terms of design, finishing materials, sourcing those materials, and getting them delivered on time) and know exactly what you want and how you want it, that way, Mike can plan and put into action what needs to be done. After this entire process, we are extremely happy we got this project completed with MDM. What really sets them apart is the quality of work, dependability, and the great people that work for MDM. Shoutout to Mario! They really respected our home and were very considerate of us during construction. Even after everything was finished, they guaranteed that they would come back and fix anything that needed fixing. Cannot recommend them enough if you want to improve or build your new home! read more

We had a great experience with MDM Remodeling on our downstairs, so we hired them again for our upstairs guest bathroom and they delivered again. Shawn was easy to reach, responsive, and great to work with throughout the project. The crew showed up on time, kept things clean, and finished everything in under 5 weeks. We did new tile, vanity, lighting, and a walk-in shower, and the quality really shows. Hard to find a contractor this consistent and reliable. Pricing felt fair too, especially for the level of work. Definitely recommend MDM Remodeling if you're doing a bathroom remodel in Los Angeles we'll be using them again. read more

We wanted to convert our garage into an ADU and started looking for contractors for the new job. We decided to choose MDM after seeing all the positive reviews and having a great first impression from the initial meeting with Shawn. Throughout the design phase Mike was extremely patient and helpful in guiding us to find the best floor plan. He was very patient in listening to our feedback to make multiple 2D and 3D renderings and explaining our feasible options. With his input, we finally decided on a 500 sq.ft floor plan with 1 BR/1BA, in-unit laundry, and full kitchen. Mike quickly secured the necessary permits in 3 months and demo literally began the next day after approval. Throughout the entire construction period of 5 months, we were very impressed with the level of communication and engagement. We predominantly used WhatsApp to ask questions, get updates, and see photos of the work in progress. However, when needed, he also offered to meet in person, over the phone, or do a video conference to clarify any questions we had. Mike responded to our concerns and questions in a very timely fashion with a high level of professionalism and respect. The workers were all very courteous, hard-working, and skillful in their specific job tasks. We hear horror stories from our friends about how their projects were delayed for months, how workers didn't show up on many days, how they could not reach their GC, or how their GC would add change orders and balloon the cost. Mike never did any of this. Everything is laid out clearly in the contract and any questions we had were communicated promptly. Mike is very knowledgeable, organized, and experienced. It is evident that he takes great pride in his work and his crew. We are extremely satisfied with the final product - a brand new ADU where you can really see the quality work that was put into it. We are so pleased that we have already begun planning our next project with him. Overall we would highly recommend Mike and MDM Custom Remodeling! read more

Our new ADU is done and we love it. Mike and the MDM crew did an outstanding job from start to finish. Mike, the owner, gave us an upfront price that came in well below the other bids we got, and he held to it. Mike did the design work with me directly. There was a design fee up front, but he credited it back in full against the construction quote once we moved forward, so it ended up costing us nothing. The process was a normal iterative back-and-forth. Other contractors handed over cookie-cutter plans and wanted to charge for any changes. When the city reversed course on our original plans (they initially said we could build over part of the driveway, then denied it after submission), Mike designed a cantilever so we could keep our full square footage on a smaller footprint. He didn't raise the price, even though the new build cost him more. Mike also handled the logistics: submitting plans to the city, pulling the permits, coordinating with the electric company, and everything in between. He was patient with our requests and solution-oriented when things went sideways. The finished house looks and feels great. The framing is solid and square, the drywall and trim work are clean, the tile work in the bathrooms is really nicely done, and the windows and doors all seal properly. His crew (shoutout to Mario and Andres) was professional and careful throughout the build. Highly recommend MDM. read more

I usually don't write reviews, but I have to say working with MDM Custom Remodeling was simply amazing. I hired MDM to convert our two car garage into an ADU for a home office and guest room, and after many months of work, I just love the end result. They handled both the design and the build, which made the project completely stress free. From the start, they listened carefully to what we wanted. They also offered creative solutions to maximize the space. They helped enlarge the kitchen and bathroom, raised the ceiling slightly, and added extra windows to bring in more natural light. Thanks to Mikes ideas, the room feels much bigger and brighter than we imagined. Because our garage is over 100 years old, we ran into unexpected issues with the city inspector. Mike and his team handled it quickly and perfectly, without delaying the project. The construction team was professional, punctual, and very detail oriented, handling everything from demolition and rough work to the final finishes. The finishers, Mario and Andres, are literally masters of their craft. Now, the converted garage is not just functional it's stylish, comfortable, and perfect for both work and guests. If you're thinking about a garage conversion or any home remodel, I highly recommend MDM Custom Remodeling. They made a big project easy, enjoyable, and delivered results that far exceeded our expectations! read more

Quick update to our previous review: we contacted Mike 2.5 years (!) later about an issue with our bathroom and he reacted amazingly. Sent his crew multiple times to figure out what was going on and then fixed everything at his own cost. And when they found another issue (that was not related to their work) along the way, he just had them fix it as well, no questions asked. Top notch customer service - we're really glad we chose MDM back then because we can rely on them even in the long term. read more

MDM was the perfect choice for our full gut kitchen remodeling project. We were looking for a contractor to assess us from concept to completion and help us bring our vision to reality. MDM handled everything very well from the concept design to pulling city permits and completely transforming our kitchen into our dream kitchen. Shawn is honest and made sure everything was done right in the end all within the time goal we had with relatively minimum stress. One of my neighbors was so impressed that he is hiring MDM for his remodeling project later this year. While we are still waiting for minimal touch ups to be done, we couldn't be more excited about our new kitchen. We wanted to share our experience with others and highly recommend MDM. read more

Update to a review I left over a year ago. I spoke to MDM/Mike about getting a recommendation for repairs to some Flooring - I assumed that the job was too small for their team, but was extremely happy when Mike offered to have his team come out and replace the materials. We recently had the pleasure of working with MDM Custom Remodeling on a full renovation of our home, and we couldn't be happier with the results. From the initial consultation to the final walk-through, their professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to quality were evident every step of the way. We used them for the design work as well, so we worked closely with them for at least 2 months before breaking ground. Mike and his crew worked with us on countless changes and modifications of a very old home and we are eternally grateful for all the help and support we received. There are endless decisions with a project of this scope so having someone you can rely on and go to for advice is immensely valuable. They listened carefully to our ideas, offered thoughtful suggestions, and brought our vision to life while staying on schedule and within budget. The entire team was courteous, skilled, and respectful of our home, making the process smooth and stress-free, even while living in our home the entire time (crazy!). The workmanship is outstanding--everything from the flooring and cabinetry to the lighting and finishes was completed to the highest standard. The team at MDM Custom Remodeling did a very good job transforming our ugly small kitchen and making it brand new. Mike, the owner was also the project manager, he is very professional, the communication with him was always timley and the quality of the work was exceptional. The job was delayed and took longer than promised because of a structural issue that had to be addressed. This caused an extra cost and extra time in the project but MDM did handle it very professionally and brought their engineer Amir on at their cost to take a close look before making any decisions. Our new kitchen is now beautiful, and thanks to the structural reinforcement that was addressed we feel much safer and prepared for the next earthquake. Unfortunately, we got ghosted and haven't received any follow-ups from two other contractors who visited our place. Luckily, we found Mike with MDM Custom Remodeling, and we knew very fast he was the contractor we were looking to convert our garage into an ADU. First, Mike designed our ADU on his amazing 3D and 360° design app. We went back and forth with a few options until we came with the design that suited us the best. Mike is kind, professional, has a lot of patience and has suggested so many great and practical ideas. After approving the design, we hired MDM to do the actual work for us. The contract was very clear, detailed, and professional. Last week, we submitted the plans to the city, and we are hoping to get the permits in the next few weeks and start construction right after. We are very excited and feel we are very lucky to have Mike as our contractor. read more

Our kitchen remodeling job involved gutting out the entire kitchen, relocating the sink next to the other window, upgrading the electrical panel, and a complete new kitchen. Here are some things we valued: The design Mike did was very professional in terms of suggestions and accuracy. The cost of the job was exactly what we agreed on and not even one dollar extra. Communication was excellent, Mike and Shawn answered all our questions and concerns within a very reasonable time, and most were within minutes. When things did not go as expected, Mike and MDM made sure it ended up right. They said they would finish the project in 8 weeks. They were done in 7. One week, a head of schedule! We are very very pleased with our bathroom renovation experience led by Shawn and the MDM crew. Although we had a general idea of what we wanted, we went back and forth with the location of the tub and the vanity size. Shawn had lots of great ideas and together with his 3D design, we got a clear picture of the remodel that suited us best. Once the actual construction started, we knew we made the best decision. The crew was very polite and professional leaving the place clean at the end of every day. I appreciated Shawn sticking to the initial budget and even when we had some surprises such as a demand from the inspector to change the insulation behind the tiles, Shawn and MDM took responsibility and did not request an extra charge as other contractors might have done. Another thing I appreciated very much was finishing on time! MDM promised to finish the bathroom in 4 weeks and finished in 3 weeks and a day, which made me very happy considering I work from home. It's not easy remodeling a bathroom while living in the house, but Shawn did everything he could to make it as easy as possible for us, including reframing a rotten wall. We decided it was time to remodel our master bathroom and contact a number of contractors. We are so happy we found Shawn and MDM, as unlike previous experiences with other contractors, they were very clear with the design, detailed in the description of work and budget, and it felt like a breath of fresh air in the LA contractors' jungle. Their crew is small and efficient. They started every day on time and were very respectful to our home, protecting the furniture and floors. Shawn consistently kept us up to date with the progress of the work and gave us great suggestions for the finishing materials; no new decisions were made without full and clear communication. Their attention to detail is what impressed us the most. During the tile installation, a few tiles were slightly off, and the team did not stop that day until they were completely aligned. That was very impressive. Thank you Shawn and MDM for everything, we will highly recommend you as the best contractors we have ever worked with. read more

I am incredibly pleased that we hired MDM custom remodeling. Mike, the owner and General Contractor, is one of the most communicative GC we could have asked for. Not only did he go out of his way to communicate well, but he never took more than a few hours to respond to us throughout the 6 months we worked with him. In addition, he and his team were fast and efficient. As an example, early in the process, our permits expired without our knowledge and Mike jumped in to help us secure the new permits immediately. He was relentless with the city to get us approved so we could get started. Once the project started, he made sure to send us photos almost every day of the progress so we could keep track of our progress while we were at work until we were able to get home. His team kept our backyard clean and they were respectful of our property, which is more than I can say of past contractors we have worked with. Again, I cannot stress how different Mike and his team were compared to other contractors we've worked with. It's hard to trust that someone is going to come to your property and do right by you, Mike will do just that. Mike deserves all these great reviews and I hope we get to work with him again in the future. I'm not sure if I'm going to move forward with the job I'm planning because of cost. Shawn did ask me to leave a review to help educate anyone that might be interested. Along with my request for an estimate I sent him a couple of drawings and a video for the bathroom. He called me back in a timely fashion. We talked over the phone for a bit, during which time he was able to give me a ballpark figure as to cost and how long it would take. Of course, if we decide to move forward he'd come over to assess the job in person to give us a better idea. Unfortunately, this company doesn't have any companies they work with that do financing.
