With a project this big there are inevitably going to be hiccups and bumps along the way, but Eric was transparent about the situation and challenges presented and offered FAIR solutions. Throughout the process I learned that no one was going to care about the details of my house as much as myself. There was push and pull, but that will happen with any contractor. Eric and his team brought my dream bathroom to life from 3D renders to a reality! This project started with simply wanting a larger, soaking bathtub but quickly evolved into a full bath remodel. I have very discerning design and detail standards, which Eric and his team graciously took on. I even made 3D renders of my proposed bath remodel and put Eric in a VR headset to see them. He happily obliged and I'm pleased to share that the bathroom turned out better than the initial renders! The end result is a wonderful, spa-like retreat that feels warm and inviting after a long day. Prior to contacting Cedars I carefully researched multiple bath remodel contractors on Angie, Yelp and Google. The results were a bit daunting but I decided to give Cedars a call and schedule an in-home consultation. Eric quickly responded and made an appointment to show up when it was convenient for me. Of all the contractors we met with, Eric seemed to be the most knowledgeable and personable. He had a great attitude and was very friendly. He was also very transparent about the estimated budget and any additional costs. Of course, not everything is perfect and there were some challenges along the way. I wanted a jetted tub which ultimately meant that I had to replace the electric panel for our home. This added another $5k to the overall budget but Eric and his contractors handled everything and made it as trouble free as possible. They also underestimated the total number of tiles needed to complete the shower, but I found a similar tile at another location which Eric willingly drove to pick up on short notice. Also, Juan and Hugo found a leaking pipe under the house (which had been leaking for years) and they replaced it. Finally, the light fixture above the vanity mirror isn't centered, which I understand would've required some significant reworking of the wall studs, but I wish they could've found a wiring solution to get it just right. However, it's not terribly noticeable unless I point it out. Overall, I'm very happy with Cedars Remodeling and the work they put into bringing my dream spa to life. Eric is a good guy and his team worked very hard to transform my 1950's era bathroom into something modern that I will enjoy for years to come. We just finished a kitchen, powder room and primary bath remodel in our 1918 home and Eric and his team did a great job. After house hunting for many months and almost buying a brand new home, we settled on a fixer in Torrance knowing we could put a chunk of money into it and still come out cheaper than the new home. My wife and son had previously engaged with Eric on another project that ultimately never got started but had done the research on Cedars and heard very good reviews. We also liked Eric and his overall attitude and ideas so decided to move forward with him on this large project. My first surprise was his approach to the money, without us even bringing it up he asked for a very small deposit to start and laid out a schedule of payments for each stage of the work. This immediately put my mind to rest. Early on in the project a neighbor challenged Eric with a flat tire from a screw. Knowing this was our new home, he quickly took care of the issue and paid for the repair and apologized, and went on to investigate why it happened and later proved that the offending screw matched none of the ones on the work site, either new or old. Still it was nice that he didn't want us to start off on the wrong foot with people when we moved in. Work proceeded quickly and Eric handled the inevitable changes with grace and clarity, explaining the cost impact along the way. We found creative ways around challenges such as not being able to fully remove a wall in the kitchen (the cost was just too much and the result works really well). He provided suggestions and insights along the way as my son provided design ideas to my wife who was able to be present almost every day to collaborate with him. The house was radically changed inside and out as we changed the roof color, driveway, trim, paint, decorative features along with adding a new master bed, bathroom and closet and touched every single room and closet in the house, as well as the garage. The fireplace, one of our original floor to ceiling feature asks came out beautifully, even though the design had to be modified due to surprises found when demoing the original setting. The biggest challenge we actually had was the speed of the work, we had some financial timing constraints and also wanted to split some of the payments over the end of the year. Eric had promised completion by late Jan when he started in October. At one point the job was potentially looking to complete late Nov, early Dec! "I am going to finish early".... says no contractor I have ever worked with previously.... In the end, city approvals slowed things down along with some existing plumbing and electrical problems that were found and had to be corrected so it all worked out AND he still finished a month early allowing us to move in and spend New Year in our new home. Eric was helpful, easy to work with, set realistic expectations, acted as the voice of reason on some of our whimsical asks and above all honest, responsive and on the job every single day throughout the project to keep his people on task. As a final note, I am a details guy and based on our experience with two previous brand new homes was expecting to find a bunch of things here and there that would need fixing or redoing in the first few weeks. After a month, there really is almost nothing and I am extremely impressed. It seems people like Eric are hard to find in the construction and remodel business. In Jan of 2018, I was fortunate to become a first time home buyer. However, the hard work didn't just end with the close of escrow. I went into buying my condo with big plans of gutting the place and making it my own. This included knocking down walls, adding a new bathroom, and the other "typical" renovation things like getting the kitchen of my dreams, new flooring, etc. Like any millennial, I looked to my friends and family for referrals, Houzz, and yelp. For my interior remodel, I interviewed probably 8 people (lost count), but Eric was the first General Contractor (GC) I met with and honestly, he set the bar really high. Eric showed up on-time for our estimate (if not early) - and I didn't think it was actually a thing for GCs to completely miss appointments, give a huge window of time where they'll arrive to meet you, be extremely late, or completely not respond where I would need to follow up? Yes, I experienced all of this throughout my estimates. Going into this project, I already had a very good idea of what I envisioned, but I definitely didn't have all the details hashed out. Eric was extremely knowledgeable in being able to recommend viable design layouts for the kitchen and new bathroom, and he was patient and understanding in explaining the differences in materials and what would work for my needs in flooring, countertops, etc. Eric gave me a lot to think about, his full undivided attention, and spent much longer than we both even anticipated - again, something you don't find much in a GC. Once we were done with the meeting, Eric turned an estimate around in probably 2 days which was the fastest I had ever received. I was transparent with Eric and had shared with him I was interviewing other GCs and he was understanding of this, continued to check-in, and was willing to work on bringing the estimate down closer to the budget I was working with. I also liked that Eric only focused on one big project at a time and is one that truly works with his crew. This was important as I wanted a GC that could make sure my project was completed within the timeline (double rent and mortgage is not fun) and a GC who is hands-on/willing to get their hands dirty rather than just someone who manages their team/subs to come in to do the work otherwise, I could literally just be my own GC. In the end, I ended up going with another GC (family referral) for my interior, but Eric left a lasting impression and had made my shortlist for future projects/work. Just over a year ago, I had a terrible termite infestation along with another neighbor in our building. After gathering estimates and recommendations from termite treatment companies - we decided to rip the bandaid off and do things properly even though that meant a big project and cost for us all. To properly treat and prevent future termite infestations, we needed to remove the wood siding/fascia on our building and then add new layers of stucco where there was none underneath the "decorative" wood fascia. Guess who was the first person I called for an estimate?? You guessed it, Eric was. After going through my interior renovation, there were a lot of things I learned from that process and I knew Eric could deliver in a way my interior contractor couldn't for our HOA (only 4 unit owners, but all challenging and demanding in their own ways). Even though I knew we couldn't go wrong with hiring Eric, we still did our due diligence and received several quotes from different GC's and companies. Eric was extremely patient through the various rounds of estimates for varying scopes of work (we wanted to get a lot accomplished beyond just the stucco... Eric probably gave us 4) and we hired Eric. His estimate was very competitive and reasonable for the amount of work we were doing. As expected, Eric finished the project in the expected time frame, was on budget (we only had one unforeseen cost, but that was not completely surprising with the severe termite damage we had), and communication was very easy throughout. Eric prides himself with getting things done right the first time around, however if something is done incorrectly or was missed for whatever reason, he will fix it and absorb that cost - even after project completion. We've had a few things fixed since completion and he hasn't blown us off or tried to pass the bucket which I really appreciate. Maybe I have trust issues where I take warranties/guarantees with a grain of salt, but Eric completely upheld his - talk about a nice surprise and someone/a company being true to their word. It was a team effort, but Eric took what I envisioned and made it a reality. The final product looks really good (before/after on Cedar's Instagram) and we are very happy with it. After interviewing 6 general contractors for our full bathroom remodel, we picked Cedars. Eric was the most responsive GC and very easy to work with. While others took weeks to schedule an appt just to see our project, we met with Eric within 2 days of our initial phone call. The bigger remodel companies sent a salesman, not someone who would actually be on site, overseeing work being done. We liked that Eric is sincere, knowledgeable and honest. He took time to explain the process. He did not try to upsell us with features or work not absolutely necessary to do our remodel. For instance, some contractors were quick to suggest a wall be torn down to expand the size of our shower, something we did not ask for, nor were interested in doing. Eric was able to give us the shower we wanted. Communication was easy. Eric usually text responded same day. Typically, he met with his subcontractors in person at the start of their work, checked on progress mid-day, reviewed the work at end of day, and touched base with us (via phone, txt, or in-person), on the next steps. We really appreciated knowing what work (window installation, insulation , rough plumbing, electrical, drywall, hot mop, etc) was coming next. Eric's contract price was very competitive. In addition, he included work that was not specified in the contract but which we asked for, or needed to be fixed or resolved- squeaky floorboard, add faux window sill, extra stucco patching. All of his subs are very good, but we have to say his tile guy is excellent. Nelson was super courteous, neat, a craftsman, and a bit of a perfectionist- which was fine by us. Our bathroom remodel was completed on-time and on-budget- something generally unheard of with remodeling anything. We are thrilled with our new bathroom and would hire Eric for our future projects! We bought a new house in Pasadena and we were looking for a general contractor who can help us our two bathrooms remodel. After we heard a lot of horror stories from our friends and family about local contractors in Pasadena we started interviewing different contractors. Cedars were the second we met out of five. We heard about them from the real estate agent. Erez was just great, true Remodeling enthusiast with a lot of knowledge and great attitude, the price was very fair as well. The project took 2 months , a lot of discussions about design and back and forth (sorry again Erez!) but we finally finished the 2 projects and it looks great! My wife and I are relatively new to homeownership and had never needed any work by a contractor before. That all changed on April 22, when a freak midnight fire raged between the neighboring property and ours. We and our insurance company are still not exactly sure what started it, but the fact that our fences had been professionally re-lacquered that same day probably contributed to the "flammability" of the whole area. It was scary as hell, being awoken by neighbors and running out barefoot with our toddlers to evacuate, but luckily it mostly involved our shed and detached garage about 30 feet behind the main house. LAFD put it out promptly, but not before chainsawing the garage roof in multiple places to vent it, and pulling off the garage fascia. You can see photos of the damage. We'd had the house on the market, and promptly took it off so we could do repairs. Our insurance company handled it quickly and fairly and put up a temp fence and sent an engineering company to draft up a proposal of repairs. Then it was up to us to find a contractor to work with to do the repairs. I took a day off and got SEVEN opinions. As a doctor myself, I really believe in the second opinion! Eric by far seemed to be the most qualified of the group, and was easygoing, affable, knowledgeable and confident, and very well versed in what needed to be done. His quote was right in the middle of the bunch, but he was also very sure that he could closely work with our adjusted and ensure the the entire amount was covered. He gave us a time estimate that was very favorable, with the only asterisk being that if there was a delay in city permitting, there might be a delay of waiting until the LA permit was in. I gave Eric the bid. Cedars hit the ground running with the post-fire cleanup and did a very high quality rebuild of the fence that was lost. They did it within two days of signing for them. Eric was back and forth with our insurer and promptly responsive by text, email and phone to every request. He was very frequently at our job site overseeing the work personally, coming by many times a day. And despite large delays from the engineering company and then the city, which would have pushed any normal contractor two weeks behind the original schedule at least, Eric and his guys just did everything that could be done at any point in time, and when the final garage repair was approved by the city (after he personally met with them twice and incorporated their framing addendum), his guys finished it in just two more days, just in time for our first Open House back on the market, and AHEAD of the original schedule!! The work is all super-high-quality (the pictures speak for themselves)- and he went ABOVE and BEYOND on our checklist day to make sure everything was perfect. It was. The house sold three days later- the buyers had NO concerns about the quality of the repair. Now let me point out the most important thing about Eric: his honesty. Over the course of these large repairs there were many different installments, some of which my wife and I paid from our different bank accounts. (The insurance reimbursement took a while to come, so we paid everything out of pocket.) It was hard to keep track exactly, but I knew that I paid him exclusively by check. When the time came to do the final check, we just combed through the "check images" from our two banks' apps and added everything up. We told Eric- it looks like we've already paid $20,500 via these six checks, so we owe you $14,400. We were ready to give him the check for that final amount, but he stopped us and said- "Shanon- I looked really hard at my bank statements and found the missing check!" He produced a copy of one stray cashed check that, due to raw bank error, B of A never uploaded to our mobile account. He was right- when counting that 'ghost' seventh check for $3000, we'd actually already paid $23,500 and only owed $11,400. I don't think any other contractor would be detail oriented enough to notice this, and if they did, honest enough to mention it. He could've easily pocketed $3000 extra from us, but his amazing integrity led him to do the right thing. And he made sure along every step of the way that every part of the job would be covered by insurance- I just got my big reimbursement from them! In our original (pre-fire) search for our new house, my wife had been pretty particular about "brand new construction." Because of our relationship (and now friendship) with Eric, borne out of this big repair, we both felt comfortable opening our search up to include some real fixer uppers which sit on amazing properties. After touring a prospective home with Eric that would need $150k in his high quality work to make it what we want to be, we put a bid in this weekend on it and are crossing our fingers, waiting to hear back! If that level of confidence doesn't speak volumes, I don't know what else does. read more

We were referred to Cedars from our neighbor who was very happy with her remodel, and we found the very same for us. Eric is as good as they come! Affable, easygoing, hardworking, and dedicated to making sure the customer is happy. Let me explain. We were getting ready to put our house on the market, and were told by our Realtor something along the lines of: "if only the kitchen were updated... then this would really be a turnkey house and you'd be able to get top dollar." And it's true- our home has been tastefully updated over the years and looks great overall, but the kitchen stayed in the 1980's with the dreaded 'subway tile' countertops and too-ornate, dated-appearing cabinets. In truth, we had always wanted a new kitchen since moving in, but were afraid at what the cost might be. At the beginning, we were too "house-poor" to consider it. And then we had kids and were daunted by the prospect of giving up our kitchen space for a month (like many of our friends who've done remodeling). And so we put it off more and more, and it never happened. After our Realtor's suggestion though, we figured, "what the heck" and decided to gather some estimates for a kitchen remodel. Eric came TOTALLY prepared with a vision and materials, and unlike other contractors, he happily informed us that we actually have well-built cabinets, and it was mostly the doors and hardware that made them appear so old. He was the ONE contractor to suggest that we could save a ton by doing complete cabinet refacing (professional sanding/painting of the existing boxes, then application of new custom 'Shaker' doors and high-quality hardware of our choice.) He was also the ONE contractor to not make a big deal out of "how much extra labor it would be to pull out the subway-tile countertop and replace them with Quartz." Finally, he was the ONE contractor to promise us that this whole job would be done in a week! Everyone else was 3-6 weeks. AND, his quote was about SIGNIFICANTLY less than any of the others! Was it too good to be true? We weren't sure. So we read through his Yelp reviews and photos and decided to take the leap. His guys got to work the next day with the demo, taking utmost care to preserve the base cabinets while pulling out the subway tile. Their work zone was neatly covered with plastic, and they put up tarps on the side so particulate matter from the sanding wouldn't spill into the rest of the house. They kept the appliances very neatly to the side so we could still use them. They got top materials and made everything look great. Eric was at the job site every day ensuring things went well. When the old garbage disposal wouldn't work again, he just had his guy install a new one. They finished in FIVE days, and I was completely blown away by the result, and so were all the potential buyers at our one and only open-house. The house sold the next day for $35k over the original asking price. We will be lifelong Cedars customers. read more
