So Cal Builders remodeled two bathrooms to give us wheelchair access. David was exceptionally versed in all areas of this remodel and listened well to interpret our vision. He was always calm and patient with our questions and had the attitude that he would fix anything we did not like. He had excellent communication skills but there were days when no workers showed up and we needed notice. David answered calls and texts promptly when he was contacted. All of the subcontractors were professional and very good. They worked hard and cleaned up at the end of the day. The floors were always covered but because many of the jobs required going in and out, the adjacent rooms were subjected to the constant dust. The smoke alarm went off one day during the jackhammering of concrete or tile. There were glitches of course, which David easily solved and then there were mistakes. The wrong showerhead was installed in the first shower and the second shower floor was 1 1/2 inches taller than the hallway because of the drain height. The tiler knew the tile would not be even with the floors but did not tell anyone else. Because the tile work was completed, David said a change would require the tile, concrete, and slab to be redone to lower the drain. The agreed-upon solution was a mini 'ramp' from the hall to the bath. It is difficult for the small front wheels of the wheelchair and a one-handed driver to go up the slight incline and this bathroom was the reason for the entire project! He said he would redo it to make me happy if I insisted but that would mean more drilling, jackhammering, and dust plus they were at the end of ten weeks, already later than the 8-week estimate and David knew I was ready to have our house back! So, I caved and accepted the tile as completed. I can easily enter the bath by turning my wheelchair backwards but I wish the entrance had been flat! Everything passed City Inspection and the final result was two completed, beautiful bathrooms. I am now happy with how they turned out. Thanks, David! read more

He couldn't give me a quote on the spot due to my want for structural changes but guided me in first steps/information gathering with an architect and engineer. No cracks ever for well over 18 years. look at the txt message I uploaded, and you can see they wanted to remove the tile warranty. We did a whole house remodel with So Cal Builders. We got quotes from 5 other companies and they were the most competitive in price and timeline. We are very happy with the finished product. Anyone will say a remodel will never be on time or on budget, but overall Ilan was able to get us close to our original timeline and budget. We luckily didn't live in the house during the remodel especially during covid, so it made it a lot easier to have the whole house renovated at one time. In response to Aviad's comment stating that SoCal Builders offered to pay for the 1" pit left after renovation, I have replied with the message below. I want to make this public in order to set all facts straight between Aviad's comment and my experience. If anyone is looking for a full review on my experience with SoCal Builders, please see the original review below. --- Hi Aviad. Thanks for taking the time to read and consider my experience. As I stated in the review, the initial ballpark for the wall renovation was $3000. Suj then came to our home with the architect, did measurements, and then gave us the updated $6000 a week later. As a mechanical engineer, I understand the nature of this first increase - numbers may change until the full scope of work is truly understood. My difficulty came that after another week, the price increased again, rather substantially. No new information or requirements were given, so the additional 50% increase was jarring. However, what made it difficult was the wording in which it was presented (see original review). The one thing I really want to clarify is in regards to the pit. I had let Suj know that I was having a cabinet contractor put in cabinets on Tuesday, so everything needed to be finished by Monday. He assured me were on track for this. When I discovered the pit the previous Friday, Suj's solution was to "figure it out Monday". Additionally, he did not offer to pay or complete the patch at any time - he only offered to help me find someone. I want to give shout out to the project manager, Gal. He came with a clear design idea to us at our second meeting. We are amazed by his clarity to initiate a project. He went ahead of the curve to show what can be done with a clear scope of work and preliminary design. He is very meticulous and knows a great deal about the process goes into the whole house remodeling. Gal gave us multiple options and two proposals that fit our budget and vision throughout our discussion; needless to say, their bid was very competitive. We wanted to remodel our kitchen for our 1907 home. We received quotes for 4 other companies and So Cal Builders was the most honest and competitive with in a reasonable timeline. The process of coordinating a quote was smooth and easy. The Project Manager, Gal, showed up on time. He took in our ideas and he had many of his design ideas to also share. Our kitchen turned out absolutely beautifully, and I can't recommend SoCal Builders and our contractor David enough. From beginning to end, David and his crew were professional and communicative and did excellent work. I had been saving for and dreaming about this kitchen remodel for years, so I had very high expectations and the finished product actually exceeded my expectations. The materials are high quality (gorgeous cabinets!) and provided just the look we wanted. THIS IS AN UPDATE TO AVI'S RESPONSE: Hello Avi, yes we've never met in person or spoke directly on the phone but I live in this house with the bathroom you have destroyed, and I was right there on the sidelines to experience every excruciating phone call and text to get you to come see the shoddy workmanship by your day workers. Matthew has mentioned me multiple times when you initially met in person, specifically pointing out that my aging mother cannot use the upstairs bathroom so this issue had to be resolved ASAP. I'm not basing my review off anyone's hearsay, this is entirely my experience witnessing first hand your negligence, incompetence, and habitual lying. Yes, you are correct that you've passed inspections, but don't pretend that you were there like we were when the waterproofing was actually done on the pony wall AFTER final inspection. The exact spot where the tile cracking started, and the exact spot where the leakage happened into our foundation. We followed your directions to stop showering in this bathroom for a while to prove to you that was where the issue lied and the whole reason you even complied to come see the problem for yourself. So suddenly you're denying your company's error that caused this whole mess and instead pointing the finger back at us? Stop trying to make yourself out to sound like you went above a beyond for us in any way. Removing the shower tiles at NO EXTRA CHARGE??? That's what you're SUPPOSED TO DO. Did you expect us to pay for your company's mistakes? You want a cookie also for wrecking my bathroom? Of course we went and filed a claim with your insurance and NO, what we showed them is still EXACTLY what I'm staring at right this moment but you wouldn't know that because you never bothered to come check out the work. And nor does it seem that even you bothered to read correctly that we stated very clearly we were including pictures of before (evidence of the water leakage in the clearly cracked tiles that developed after a few months of use), during, and after in our case to the bond company. Funny you didn't have anything to say about any of the pictures I've posted here, since these are actually far worse than the before. As for payments, you are paid in full. This project started about two years ago including the planning/ design stage. My wife and I found Socal builders and design through the houzz site, seeing the high ratings. David has been our project manager and have agreed to a big project that consisted of a room extension and renovations that are connected to the extension. We trusted them with our home and money, and even paid ahead of time before certain stages were completed. Maybe we were too patient, too nice, and didnt bug them as many people do to contractors and workers. Unfortunately we are still waiting for them to complete this project. Construction started November 2021. We have been out of the house since February 2022 and have been patient since the day we chose them. The house still not ready able to move into. It has been 2-3 weeks since David has responded to my last text and have been trying since. I had cracks in walls, ceiling, and floor repaired, walls painted and panels added to some walls, plus floor leveled and new tile flooring installed. I am very impressed with this company. I am picky since I have had problems in the past with other companies workers. Because of past issues with workers blasting their music, yacking on their cell phones constantly, leaving messes and washing their vehicles while on the job; I asked for: No music being played by workers, no being on cell phones while working, no washing their vehicles with my water, to be clean and behave like an adult when using my restrooms, and to clean up after themselves. Uri made sure that the workers abided by my requests. Uri was great. He checks in regularly and is there for your questions, and was there to see any issues were handled.
