We had a medium-size bathroom remodel job and, although we were initially impressed with Opulent, in the end we wasted a lot of time and energy trying -- and failing -- to get an accurate, complete contract out of them. Ultimately, they told us to take our business elsewhere, which we were more than happy to do. It began with the very first appointment. I waited around all day and they never showed up. "Oh, I guess it never got into our calendar," they said, kind of flippantly. I should have taken this as a sign, but I rescheduled with them anyway. The first onsite meeting went well enough, and I was very encouraged by their pitch. But then things went south. Despite being told "we're very good with communication," getting answers to simple questions in emails consistently took three or four days. They sent us an estimate that had numerous substantial errors and omissions in it, like the wrong number of lights and cabinets and plumbing fixtures, and whole aspects of the job as we discussed it were totally missing. I identified all these and asked them in two separate emails to address them; I never got a response to either of those. Still, we were promised that when their main guy got back from vacation, he would schedule a second onsite meeting and fix all the details. But he went on a two-week vacation, and when he got back no one bothered to contact us to set up that meeting, so we had to wait a third week for that. Again, the onsite went well; they seemed to be interested in the job, and we were looking forward to signing a contract and getting started. But what they sent us was poorly drafted, with chunks of nonsensical language sloppily copy-pasted into it. This was attached to a Scope of Work that still had all of the errors from the first estimate, plus a bunch of new ones. Details we decided about in the second onsite were nowhere to be found. They requested we sign this and return it quickly so we wouldn't lose our place in their "very busy" schedule. I asked them instead (a third time!) to address and correct the errors. They made us wait three more days before finally announcing that they were no longer interested in our business. Did they ever acknowledge any of the errors in the documents they sent us? No. Instead we got a whole litany of sob stories why their company is understaffed and slow. On the face of it, it seems like they were only willing to take on our project if we were willing to overlook items that I and their representatives had discussed at length and verbally agreed to, but which somehow never made it into their written bid. The moment we asked to have those missing items included in the contract, they decided the offer was off the table. In the absence of any other explanation, I will have to assume they were intending to add these missing items on later as change orders so as to increase the final price of the job. In total, we wasted about two months waiting around for Opulent to get their act together, but everything they delivered seemed to be error-filled and/or late. Hopefully our experience can prevent someone else from making the same mistake. read more

Here is my story: My family and I moved to the Los Angeles area from Dallas, Texas. After a nine month house search, we finally found a great house in a great location that needed a lot of renovation. Our house is about 2800 square feet and we needed to renovate the entire first floor, about one half the size of the house. We hired Robert and Taline after we had a great meeting about my vision. The carpets were removed from the living room. Hardwood, and a surprise layer of linoleum were removed from the kitchen. Old kitchen cabinets and countertops were demolished and removed. After many meetings, we agreed on a style and layout of custom cabinets for the kitchen and the dining room. We also agreed to white quartz countertops and white cabinets. We bought Thermadore professional appliances and Robert made sure the cabinets and countertops were the perfect counterpart to the appliances. The entire first floor was covered with beautiful distressed dark wood which is a beautiful contrast to the white cabinets in the kitchen. Taline was always available to answer questions and assure quality control. Robert has a great crew (the same crew each day) that are very professional and courteous to the homeowners. We recently used Opulent Remodeling & Construction to complete an ADU and do some remodeling to a second unit on the property. We were cited by the city and forced to make changes, which made this process stressful from day one. But from the moment we reached out to Opulent for a quote, their team was prompt and professional. Robert, the GC, came out to the property and made us feel at ease despite the complexity of our project (other contractors stressed us out more than we already were.) Robert and the Opulent team worked on our home over a two month period. The project included: - Installation of flooring - Installation of baseboard molding/casing - Painting the interior - Installing recessed lights and light fixtures - Dry walling - Demolition of wall units - Resurfacing and patching the ceilings We can't praise Robert and his team enough! They were extremely professional and respectful in our home. For us, communication is key, and Robert, Talin, Nenci and Victor were quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had. They were always on site and readily available. Robert met with us at all hours of the day and even on weekends. When we came across unforeseen problems, they always found a solution. For instance, we luckily discovered a leak and mold that had built up over time. Robert assured us that he would fix it so that the brand new flooring would not get damaged. He identified where the leak was and filled it with tar then concrete to ensure that no water would seep through and into the house. We just had a very rainy couple of days and we can tell you that there is absolutely no leak thanks to Robert! When we had additions or changes in the plans, we never heard the word "no". We always heard the words "We'll get it done" and so we always felt that Robert was doing his best to make us happy and get the results we wanted. Even thou they are on HGTV, they still help small house to make the dreams come true.They help me remodel my whole house within budget range. And the whole process is very efficient - I never have to wait on them. When they find out stuff was broken under the foundation they fix for me without any extra charge. Also they still come back after a month for any extra work need to be adjusted. You can feel they give 100% from their heart to help you reach the goal you want. I would say it's lucky to have them as my contractor & highly recommend everyone to contact them for any construction/remodel. Long Ver: So we have a house in Pasadena, built in 1924, with a very bad condition. Floor made a lot of cracking sound and the roof collapsed 2 times in the past. 'Cuz we had a very limited amount of budges, we contacted several (more than 5) contractors to see what they can help. We worked with Opulent Remodeling & Construction, Inc in the end, not because they offered the lowest price( they are the 2ND LOWEST of all,) but we felt they are very friendly and easy to communicate. Taline was very friendly and always thinking on our side. Robert was very easy to communicate. And their crew was very friendly, efficient & professional. We basically remodeled the whole house (whole new kitchen & bathroom), rebuilt the roof & garage roof, changed the floor, installed new Central Air Conditioning & custom cabinets, and patched several broken parts. The best part is when they found out broken stuff underneath, they won't charge for the fix!! - depend on how serious damaged. For example, during the construction, they found out the central beam under my foundation was broken. Robert was very kind to fix it without us paying any $ !!! (How awesome is that!!) And they even worked on the price to reach all the goals with high quality - the whole project ended up very close to our budge. The project finished within only 4 months - cuz they always on time and on schedule for the most of part. I was the project manager on the installation of a sliding door and glass work that Opulent/Richard came to provide services on in Glendale and I have to say they did a great job. They were always on time, their quote was very reasonable and Richard even pushed his manufacturers to finish assembly earlier than expected. On top of all that Richard personally oversaw the installation of the door and the glass panels. He's not one of those contractors who just sends his guys over and he's nowhere to be found. My wife and I recently bought a house and were expecting our first child....we bought our house knowing we would eventually be doing some work to the house, but with a little one on the way our timeline suddenly sped up. We had previously met with about 6 different contractors/companies and Opulent easily stood out from the bunch and it was easy to see why. We we walked through with all the other contractors and pointed out what we wanted they all politely nodded and said "yeah, we can do that." When we walked through with Robert and Taline they were the only ones who digested what we said, talked and about the pros and cons and threw back different and often better ideas. When it came down the scheduling Robert and Taline, knew our situation and bent over backwards to squeeze us into their very busy schedule. In terms of the scope of the work, we were were remodeling the two bedrooms, 2 of the 3 bathrooms, converting a den into a bedroom and repairing some water damage that we discovered once we moved into our house. Robert and his architect Firas worked to create designs and pull the necessary permits for all the work. When it came to finally starting we had less than 4 months left before our due date. Robert and his crew came in and worked fast and hard to truly give us everything we wanted. The crew was extremely polite, professional and highly skilled and we were more than impressed with the final outcome. The process wasn't easy as our house provided a lot unique quirks like the fact that its a hillside house and that it was slightly "V" shaped so all the back walls are shorter than the front walls, in terms of the construction that meant that there were almost not 90 degree corners on any of the walls. It was tough to navigate and required constant tweaks and changes on almost every aspect of the design and construction. All in all, everything was done on time, on budget and to our liking.
