Luis Fernando did a great job helping us with two toilets that were giving us issues this morning. One toilet was leaking from the base, and both toilets were constantly running. He took the time to explain what was causing the problems, replaced the failed wax ring, installed new fill and flapper valves, adjusted everything properly, and tested both toilets several times before finishing. Over the weekend, our water heater started leaking and making a wheezing noise, as if a kettle with boiling water was ready to be served. I used Yelp's project planner to research different available services, and Free Flo Rooters replied quickly to my request (within ~15 minutes). For someone who knows nothing about home repairs, they made it extremely easy from start to finish (especially for someone who was already worried something terrible was going to happen). During the initial call, they asked me a number of questions to diagnose the problem and let me know they'd squeeze me in the next day for a free consultation and estimate. The team (Ben and Elijah) let me know they'd be out by 1 pm, but were able to make it out by 11 am instead, which helped ease our minds. When they arrived, they got straight to work diagnosing the issue and let us know we needed to replace our service line. While they were working, we let them know what other concerns we were noticing such as our hot water turning cold within ~10 minutes of use, no more hot water if someone showers after another, etc and they let us know it might be time to replace our water heater altogether since the last time it was installed was when the house was built back in 1998. Although the water heater wasn't fully worn out yet, Ben helped me understand the pros and cons of replacing it now vs. later. At no point did I feel like I was being sold on an unnecessary product, but rather a genuine experience from someone who truly cared at a reasonable price (including equipment + labor). The following day, I was scheduled for a full water heater replacement, which was completed within ~1.5 hours by Ben, Elijah, and Patrick. Had a leaky pipe, did a search on Yelp, and several companies responded. FFRD&P said they could arrive in a few hours. Steve, the tech arrived, and said they'd need to replace the pipes. I asked how long it would take and how much it would cost. He wouldn't specify how long it would take, but said it would be $450. I figured at that cost it would take some time/effort so I said ok. Later, Steve said he had to wait for glue to cure and if it was okay if he left to grab lunch. That was less than 45 mins after his assistant, who did all the work, started. So total job consisted of less than 45 mins of labor replacing the pvc pipes and cost was $450. Seemed excessive. When Steve returned, I said we've had a lot of plumbing done by several companies over the years and 45 mins of labor for $450 seemed steep, unless they charge $600/hr. He said it wasn't his fault they work fast. I gave him an out by saying if he looked at me in the eyes and could honestly say that was $450 worth of work, I'd pay it. He said it was. Company was responsive, and I hope the work is good, but $450 for less than 45 mins of labor. He was also super careful with our home. Before he started working, he covered and protected everything around the area so none of the furniture would get damaged, and he cleaned everything up afterward.
