The Standard Breakfast was just the right portion size. The eggs were fluffy and delicious and I asked for them to add cheddar cheese. The fried potatoes were delicious as well. The blood orange mimosa was good but I don't know if it was worth $15 (almost as much as my entree). The croissant was a disappointment and it was stale and not fluffy or very buttery. It happened to be in the concourse we were in so that took care of that choice. I have to say we were both pretty impressed. We started with the wings which were delicious. Messy, spicy but delicious. I ordered the soup and 1/2 salad. I got the Thai carrot curry soup which was good. It grew on me the more I ate it. But the star for me was the farro Caesar salad. I ate a lot of salads during my trip and this one was easily the best. So good! The service was great as well which isn't common when it comes to airport restaurants. Service was good and food came out pretty quickly. Ordered the duck wings to share as an app and it was pretty flavorful. It was fried pretty hard so the meat was a little tough. For my entree I chose the BBQ pork bahn mi and it was just OK. It was really lacking any meat and the bread wasn't anywhere near as good as a crusty French baguette should be. Whenever I have a layover in Denver, I always stop at Root Down in Terminal C. It's a great spot that offers a lively vibe and great food! The first time I ever stopped in, I was looking for gluten free and dairy free food options. They offered menu items and customizations to meet both needs! They have both gluten free sandwich bread and burger buns--and it's only a $1 upcharge!!!! The staff is super friendly at the bar top--where I usually sit since I travel solo a lot. They've seen my face so many times now, they actually recognize me nowadays! As time allows, they will chit chat a bit, but they are always on the ball when it comes to making sure my food is enjoyable and that I never have to ask for a refill. Had extra time before a flight and stumbled onto this restaurant. Service was really prompt and helped me decide on what to order; I ended up getting the lamb sliders and passionfruit tea. The tea was good, tart. It was unsweetened and came with sweeteners on the side so one can adjust for their own tastes. It was iced, so it took some time for sweeteners to dissolve. Lamb sliders were flavorful, well seasoned, and tender. Initially I was unaware this dish is gluten free, but it's a pleasent surprise. Significant portions of the menu are gluten free and they are very accommodating for other sensitivities. I had a nice layover at DIA and was able to sit and enjoy a late lunch. Promptly sat at a table for one I ordered an iced tea, sweet potato fries and the noodle salad with steak. I had a very disappointing experience because of the host. I was initially offered a seat on a couch that was directly next to another party, and I politely said I would rather wait for a table instead. A few minutes later, I watched him seat two parties who had arrived after me. I then spoke with another hostess and told her I was happy to sit anywhere except the couch. She even said she didn't know why I had been skipped. She went to ask the host, and when she came back she confirmed that he had intentionally skipped me. I also overheard him make an inappropriate comment after she questioned him about it. While I couldn't hear every word, it was obvious from the interaction that he had deliberately passed me over because I declined the original seating option. There is a huge difference between politely declining one specific seat and giving up your place in line. The host's attitude was rude, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. The other hostess handled the situation professionally and was kind, but this host's behavior left an incredibly poor impression. I hope management addresses how guests are treated, because no customer should be spoken about or treated that way. For airport food, Root Down is pretty decent (as well as the Mercantile Dining & Provision at the A gate wing, which I think is one of the best airport food I've had)! The dining area is adjacent to a small open market, and is in the "food court" area of the wing. If you get a seat by the window, you'll be able to watch the planes fly in and out, which is calming. Notably, the portions are large, as I'd rather pay more for a decent meal rather than an oily, greasy fast food option if I can help it. The service was also positive, chirpy, and attentive - great experience! My party and I were seated quickly and had water immediately upon being seated. Food quality is good as far as airport food goes. My party ordered the Bahn Mi Turkey Burger with sweet potato fries, Ramen, and 1/2 Soup + 1/2 Salad. The plates are super large, even for the 1/2 salad so if you're not ravenous, you could probably order just one entree and share it with another person. The sweet potato fries were decent, and the turkey burger was supple (and healthy-tasting with fresh ingredients) though it tasted nothing like Bahn Mi - it's more Bahn Mi inspired with the addition of jalapeno and cilantro. The ramen was overly salty, and my party and I diluted it by ordering a cup of hot water. The soup and salad were delicious and super fresh, recommend getting this entree! Top tier restaurant at the Denver Airport. If you have a layover, Root Down is a must. My server was the sweetest and answered all questions + gave recommendations on the best food to order. I had their version of an espresso martini - delicious. Side note: all of their cocktails are doubles. For food I went with the homemade veggie burger. Honestly the best veggie burger I've ever had. It held together (unlike most which just fall apart in your hands), had tons of flavor, and the toppings were next level. Came with crunchy veggie mixture, avocado, and jalapeño relish (the real star). The burger also came with a side of sweet potato waffle fries that were perfectly crisp and well seasoned. The host surprised us by clearing the table we liked himself and quickly brought us menus and silverware. Our waiter approached us very quickly and took our order. So why the sausage upcharge? Toast MAYBE I can understand but not the sausage. Then all the breakfast comes with a mound of spring mix. I don't know bout you, but when I'm having eggs, toast, and sausage....im always wondering why doesn't anyone serve breakfast with a green spring mix salad?!?! NOT! It was actually sort of unappetizing to see a MOUND of greens, not a little garnish, we're talking side salad size of spring mix, plopped onto the side of the plate. It just didn't match. The good news is that they are cooking to order, the bad news is that it may take about 30-45 minutes to get your food. They definitely appeared understaffed too which added to the challenges; one server seemed to be covering all the tables and we could see tickets piled up in the window. Many started converting their orders to to-go, but we did get our food in time to eat quickly at our table. We asked for the check before our food arrived so we could just eat and run. I had the Denver omelette sandwich with home fries and all was fresh and delicious which is so rare in airport food! The home fries were a mix of sweet potatoes and purple and regular potatoes which I really enjoyed. Whenever I have a layover at this airport, I get excited because Root Down is one of the few restaurants I've ever been to within an airport that has good food that is dietary restriction friendly with comfortable seating and friendly service. I always make a point to eat here when I have a time to kill! Recently, I got the turkey burger on a gluten free bun. It was delicious! The bun didn't fall apart and all the sauces and toppings added so much flavor to an otherwise boring turkey burger. The staff was also really friendly and helpful. My server was personable and helpful throughout every interaction with both me and fellow diners around me.
