I later politely asked another employee whether customers are required to rehang clothes after trying them on. He confirmed that there is no such rule and that rehanging items is simply a courtesy. I completely understand that putting clothes back on hangers is helpful to the staff, and I'm happy to do so as a courtesy. However, there is a big difference between politely asking a customer for help and correcting them as though they have violated a store policy when no such policy exists. The interaction was minor, but the attitude was unnecessary and definitely affected my experience at this location.
