Was in Missouri for Thanksgiving went Black Friday shopping and decided to give this place a shot. I have to say this place felt just like home. The service was good and the food was good. My boy friend and I were seated right away, the menu was easy to read and straight forward. I the caramel nut french toast with out the bananas it was topped with caramel and pecans with whipped cream with bacon. The French toast was perfect not soggy and had lots of flavor. Bacon was cooked to perfection. My bf had the souther cal omelette he really liked it. Of course I sampled it, it was divine. Overall Ronnie's is Chicago approved. Where to begin...after recently relocating from the west coast with an ample selection of eating establishments we opted to look for a local place to make our regular place. Our kids (4 & 5) LOVE breakfast, so we gave Ronnie's a chance. So far so good, I travel for work and on the road for months at a time. So when I crave a hot meal I hit Yelp up to see what I can find. Today it is Ronnies breakfast and lunch restaurant. Simple hometown place, walk in the door it's loud with happy conversations going on everywhere. (That's a good sign). I have yet to see an adult, all service staff are either high school or young college kids... all smiles and working hard. Thank you Ronnie! Now to the food and who doesn't need a good hardy breakfast to start the day. Each table is set with a pitcher of water, if you order coffee they bring you the pot! Been to Ronnie's many times over the years, but this was the first time during the COVID-19 pandemic. The food and wait service was good, just like I've always experienced. However, I was VERY disappointed with this most recent visit. 45 minutes in, an employee (not our friendly waitress) informed us that there was a 45 minute time limit and they needed us to pay and vacate our booth. Feeling like we had violated some house rule, we sheepishly paid our bill and went across the street to Blackdog Coffee where there was no table time limit. I probably would have understood more if there was sign at our table, or if the waitress had informed us at the beginning, but to be run off mid conversation was VERY offputting, inhospitable, and bordered on rude. I get that some practices are changed up because of COVID, however to hustle people away so others don't have to wait seemed ridiculous. People expect to have to wait for a table at a restaurant, pandemic or not. The time limit and brusque way we were told to leave is enough to keep me away from Ronnie's and patronize other businesses that are more friendly to their customers. read more

There were seven us stopping in for breakfast while we were in town for a family event. Great service and classic breakfast dining options. Think of it as an upscale greasy spoon diner. The prices were very reasonable and portions were generous. None of us left hungry and had a sampling of their popular menu items including french toast, chicken fried chicken, biscuits and gravy and omelettes. A really good breakfast lunch menu. I'm not a regular but I'm often going to come here and eat mostly breakfast and today was really home style cooking and it was made to order. Weekends are very busy and usually a short wait it depends how many is in your party. This lunch special was tasty a bit tough on the steak but for $8.75 you can't complain. Onion in mashed potatoes it was tasty but if your not a fan of onions it was in the green beans. Servers are excellent except one and she can be a pleasant pain in the ass if you win her section. I would recommend not judging on her waitress skills but she makes our parties cringe when we get her. But you come here to eat and this is good home cooking and don't worry about the service because 90% it's going to be good. read more

But here's my only opinion about a dish they serve their way: I am usually a huge fan of corned beef hash, and their's is not good. It's just shredded corned beef and some cubed potatoes mixed together, but not fried crisp, not tasty, not normed corned beef hash flavor or preparation. Boring. Disappointing. Everything was packaged perfectly for a to-go breakfast with all the toppings (gravy, hollandaise, syrup, etc.) separarte incase it had to be re-warmed. Chicken fried chicken was phenomenal- breathing seasoned just right, very crispy, yummy gravy!! Waffle was exactly what you expect - fluffy and crispy on the outside with maple syrup. It's not difficult to see why this place is pulling down solid review after solid review! My breakfast buddy and I decided to break our streak of consecutive visits to the joint around the corner to give Ronnie's a try. The only regret we had from the entire visit was not having given it a shot much sooner! All the basics were there: clean, spacious dining room, excellent service, huge menu with all the basics and tons of beyond-the-basics, and last but not least: fantastic prices. Like, so fantastic, you kind of wonder how they're staying in business! Our waitress deserves a particular call out for her patience, assistance with walking us through the aforementioned large menu as first timers, and her infinite patience with our questions about all things breakfast. Even after my buddy mentioned not being a "cinnamon roll guy", she somehow charmingly talked us in to sharing one. To this moment, nearly one week later, I cannot get that cinnamon roll out of my mind. Large, warm, soft, doughy, and chock-full of cinnamon and icing, the thing was a masterpiece. I enjoyed a scramble, and my buddy a breakfast sandwich. Both were well-executed. I'd like to give a shout out to the biscuit, which, again, was large, warm, soft and disappeared in record time. The only local, family friendly breakfast place we invest money into frequently. This restaurant feels like going to someone's grandmas house. The food is always fresh and amazing. If you don't try the chicken friend chicken or carnitas burrito or ranch wrap....go back and do it over. Because it's so good I'd eat a second breakfast/brunch.
