Shack could be sooooo much better, and given that they have great spot in a great location, one would hope that they would improve. The space is amazing, from the living graffiti walls to the decor to the higher ceilings. There is plenty of seating, including the bar area, and even a wait time is not uncomfortable. Even with a great space, the service staff seems to be disorganized in the front part of the house. I can't put my finger on it, but it is almost as if they struggle to have a host function or even a host. But you're here for the food, and the menu is really strong. Breakfast options galore, some decent lunch options, and a strong bar menu makes for a great lineup. But the food does not stand out and it doesn't seem to have been made to my order. That's fine if I'm ordering at a fast food drive-thru; if I'm seated, then I want my order to be made correctly and served in a timely fashion. And I am FAR from *that* guy, generally not one to raise a fuss. Maybe I should, but I won't. Just know that I liked Shack once upon a time and it seems to have slipped. SW JoCo has plenty of customers with free time and healthy wallets, so my three stars is more my way of being generous and hopeful than a true reflection of my experience.

First time customer while visiting the area and I loved this place. The atmosphere is very cute and interesting. The menu is soooooo funny and interesting with great names for all the items. There is a great variety from which to choose. I ordered the sandwich that had a pretzel bun, two eggs cooked your way, bacon, avocado, salsa, cheese and garlic aioli. I can't remember the name but it was a funny one. We didn't wait long and our food arrived. Mine wasn't very hot, but the flavors together were very good. I really liked my choice. Service was ok. I did like the fact that they gave us a whole pot of coffee so we didn't have to wait for refills.

Great place in Lenexa for lunch or breakfast. Their service is super fast & food excellent. Bring a pencil to graffiti the wall!

Tasty breakfast and I loved all of the options. In fact, it was pretty impossible to decide on just one thing!! I landed on the protein bowl, packed with quinoa, eggs, avocado and smoked turkey. Delicious!! The egg was cooked to order - a nice touch. This is an excellent restaurant for a leisurely brunch. One thing I didn't like was the temperature. It was so cold while we were there that my fingertips turned blue.

If I could put 10 stars I would!!! First things first, this 80's girl LOVED the music and the menu vibe. Such great names for every item. I ordered breakfast after taking 20 minutes to decide. I definitely need to come back to try more things. I'm still dancing in my seat to the music- thanks for the great meal and the

We had forgotten just how good Shack is for breakfast. Our daughter was in town from Chicago and wanted to have a great breakfast. I had the breakfast tacos (pork belly) and they were amazing. My wife had the Nashville Hot Chicken and loved it. Our daughter ordered the biscuits and gravy and said they were fantastic. Our waitress (Mercedes) was very busy, but she was attentive and checked in on us frequently to make sure our breakfast was to our liking. We did enjoy reading all the "Crayon Graffiti" on the walls. It's a cool way for kids and kids at heart to further enjoy the experience. We won't wait so long between visits! Definitely a great place for breakfast.

I could spend the day just reading the menu! This is such a lay back yet creative place! The wait staff really seem to enjoy their jobs and the food is delish! If you're looking for g for a fun new restaurant, this is the place for you! We like the "I almost made it to Denver" omelette and the "Do it your way Meg Ryan"!

    BIG A#! BURRITO

The ambiance is fun but busy and the regular menu is HUGE. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his burrito. As a celiac I was very excited for the dedicated gluten free menu but was a little bummed as it was a lot of eggs (which is bad for many celiacs too). The gluten free lunch menu looked delicious but was not served on the weekend. Great service though and fun spot.

We love grabbing a work lunch here. Our server Sheree was great! I love that they have a large GF menu- so many choices. Their menu has fun and funny names for dishes. It's a super fun atmosphere where people have signed every surface they could possibly sign.

Visiting Kansas and had to stop by Shack. I recommend ordering the Gringo Killer, Starchy & Cluck, and Spicy About Mary. The Gringo Killer has a nice spice kick and the Starchy & Cluck was both savory and sweet. I would've loved more of the aioli within the waffles of the Starchy & Cluck. The Spicy About Mary has such a great zesty and spicy peppery flavor. I love the Zing Zang mix. The service was prompt and attentive. The location is kinda tucked away, wish more people knew about this location. Give this location a visit!

We sat at the bar. The bartender was great, friendly and attentive! Mimosas and bloody Mary's were both good. Food was served fresh exactly as ordered! It wasn't too busy when we were there but I know it can be. They do have a waitlist you can join online ahead of time. Cute restaurant with fun wooden walls with customers signatures on them.

Nice little breakfast, brunch and lunch place. Nothing out of this world, but food was tasty enough. I ordered the Jersey Hash--wanted extra crispy hash browns, but given the nature of sausage gravy, even if they were at one time crunchy, they were not when they arrived. Since I was celebrating a birthday I ordered the Shack and Eddy Kissing in a Tree. Whoo! Three different alcohols you'd think it would be kinda gross and with the added floral scent of the Elderflower liqueur might be a turnoff--surprisingly tasty! Our waitress was great; helpful and patient. I'd go back to try other options.

This was a solid breakfast! I was a little nervous at first. There was no hostess when we walked in. We had to look around a bit for someone to seat us. Once we got seated, service wasn't great. We had to wait long stretches in between table visits. It was odd because there were only 3 tables seated in the place. The food made up for the cruddy service. I had the "Make a Grown Man Cry" breakfast burrito. I didn't honk I was hungry until I started eating. I couldn't stop it was so good!!! Great meal, poor service

Box sizes and to-go orders don't really have a good presentation or fit with the amount of food you normally get while dining in at the restaurant. But Burg and Barrel has it down. Everything travels very well. And they are good at ensuring they have the right boxes for the right items. Venting in place to keep the fries (or tots) from steaming up and getting soggy. Boxes that are big enough for the full sandwich and a full order of fries. Snagged a beer while I waited and didn't even make it all the way through before the bartender showed up with our to-go order. Then speaking of Ambiance... we got to sit in my awesome living room and wolf down burgers and a steak salad while watching the movie of choice for the night. I ALWAYS get their amazing tots that are perfectly seasoned and crispy, but my coworkers upgraded to the massive onion rings. Between the large 1/2lb burger (cooked perfectly!) and sides none of us could completely finish our plates! I have never had a bad dish at either location. Our server, Chastity, was super nice and helpful and explained everything for the first timers in our group. She and Hailey do a great job and we are looking forward to trying another special! Next time I will take pictures before inhaling the top notch food! The only downside is the place is noisy, since the ceiling is wide open. Not a deal breaker for me or our group, but I could see it bothering someone more picky. Thank you!

It's a lovely restaurant. It seems a bit out of the way with mostly corporate buildings around. The restaurant has a nice modern aesthetic. I like the purple hyacinths hanging from the ceiling in one area. It was very steady for an off time in the afternoon. First, our server Olivia was amazing! Very attentive and we were extra needy this day so I really appreciate her patience. We even dropped food on the floor. Oops! She was so nice about it and cleaned it up immediately. We had customizations and extra requests. No problem for her! She went above and beyond. I hope she sees this because she was such a joy! The food was also very good. We started with the biscuits and one peach compote and one blueberry. Both were yummy. They were traditional drop biscuits and I love a good biscuit! We also had an order of fried green tomatoes on goat cheese grits. You get 4 very large slices. I could only eat one. The grits were yummy but there were not enough of them in relation to the friend green tomatoes. They were also encased by a sauce. I'm guessing a remoulade. I don't really care for remoulade sauce so I'd have removed it had I known it came with the dish. It really overpowered the goat cheese taste in the grits. The tomatoes were very al dente and I would have preferred them cooked a bit more. The dish was still good but my least favorite and I would normally love anything with those ingredients and fried green tomatoes are a favorite so the remoulade (or whatever it was) sauce was a real problem for me. I would definitely get them again without the sauce because they are great otherwise. But that sauce just overpowers every other flavor! I got the chicken tender dinner and others in my party got the bone in fried chicken. Everyone liked their chicken. The tenders were a big size. 4 of them but I hit 2 meals out of them. Everyone liked the Parmesan rosemary potatoes. I really liked the bacon green beans. The only side we weren't impressed with was the Mac and cheese unfortunately. The cheese was not good. We got coffees and a chai. All of them were very good. A bit pricey for the amount you get though. Even with the smaller complaints, I'd still give th a 5 because of the outstanding service and the dishes were overall very good and large portions. We will definitely return and I hope to try out a breakfast item next visit!

Unfortunately, the service side fell flat. We arrived mid-afternoon around 1:30-2:00, and the restaurant wasn't busy. We asked if we could sit upstairs, and the host seemed confused before telling us it was closed, then seated us directly next to a loud group despite plenty of quieter open tables nearby. A few minutes later, we looked upstairs ourselves and saw multiple occupied tables being actively served...what the heck? The most frustrating part of this experience wasn't the seating, it was the complete indifference from the staff. Drinks didn't arrive until after we had already finished eating, and despite the restaurant being relatively slow, nobody seemed remotely concerned. No urgency or communication. Just a normal day for them, I guess. A kitchen can only carry a restaurant so far when the front-of-house operates with this little care for hospitality. The atmosphere gives the impression of a place that wants to feel polished and upscale, but the service felt lazy and disconnected from the guest experience. Mistakes happen in restaurants. What matters is whether the staff notices and cares enough to fix them. We left wondering how a restaurant with food this solid has become comfortable delivering service this poor.

However, things got interesting with their Tequila/Cold Brew/Liquor 43 concoction. Topped with an egg foam cap, it was actually pretty solid. A bit of a gamble, but sometimes you have to roll the dice when the menu is trying that hard. The Culinary "Hit and Miss" Then came the food, or as I like to call it: The Great Consistency Crisis. The Steak: I asked for medium-rare; I received medium-well with a "char" that felt more like a personal vendetta against the cow. The Potatoes: Apparently, potato portions are determined by a lottery system. I received about half the amount of the person next to me. Maybe I didn't look hungry enough? The Eggs: My over-easy eggs had crispy, hard edges and arrived at a temperature I'd describe as "lukewarm at best." We also had to hunt down salt and pepper like we were on a scavenger hunt. Honestly, I probably should have just hit the buffet and cut out the middleman. The Service Our server was perfectly nice, but he appeared to be roughly twelve years old. Since he wasn't legally old enough to understand the complexity of a craft cocktail, he couldn't give us any info on the drink menu. We just had to "go with our gut"--which is a dangerous game when tequila and cold brew are involved. The Verdict I'm not saying I won't be back, but consider this a fair warning: if Round 2 involves another charred steak and a side of "room temperature" eggs, I'll be sending it back for a rerun faster than a shanked drive into the woods. 3/5 Stars -- Great for people-watching, questionable for potato-equity.
