Took a chance on a new restaurant and tried Romers on Kerr through skip the dishes this past week. let me just say--I have never been so disgusted in my life. My order arrived with average food---(cold coconut Thai appetizer and soggy fries) but the real kicker? When my dinner date opened their burger box and went to pull it out...only to have a half dead fly CRAWL out of the sandwich!! Tried to call the restaurant but they just hung up and when I contacted SkipTheDishes they told me the restaurant was unreachable. VERY poor experience and bad food---I threw it all away and was left scrambling to find us a replacement meal. If I could rate them zero I would and seriously, someone should have the health department out there to check on their kitchen... they clearly need the once over. read more

Food has improved since prior to covid. Our particular waitress was not in any mood for us; wasn't polite, charged us $19.95 instead of $18.95 as the 'special'; charged me for an alcoholic drink (caesar) when I had asked for a virgin - allergic to alcohol - she charged us for the alcohol drink. We didn't look at the bill, and paid, and then saw the mistakes. She didn't say sorry or thanks, scurried around and pretty much ignored us... neither one of us are a pain so we didn't know what was going on. She was just bitchy. 10% tip only. Which was too much. I don't know what was going on today but our food was incredibly greasy. I had cold fries and my husband's hashbrowns were overcooked and in a pool of grease. My chicken burger was burned on one side and the avacado was unripe...I actually wondered what I'd bit into at first then I figured out the crunchy bit was avacado. Son was happy despite dry, overcooked chicken fingers. My husband's waffle was also super crunchy and greasy. We usually come here as a mid point to a family ride but we won't be back after today. Servers were good once we were moved to the main patio (sat on the secondary for 10min without seeing anyone and no water). They tried but couldn't make up for that meal. read more

Came here for my birthday and the service was great. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. As for the overall environment, the place is very small and the atmosphere is incredibly loud and dark. I found it hard to have a conversation with my family and it was hard to enjoy our meal with these circumstances. The food was pretty tasty, but the items on the menu are all relatively expensive. I had some leftover fries that I had asked to be packed for me to take home but the waitress had forgotten to pack it and bring it to me before we were going to leave. I had a really good experience here, clean restaurant and it was not very busy. Could be because of the weather, it was raining all day. The view is great from where we were seated. The staff was friendly and was happy to answer any questions I had as it was my first time. I order the Chorizador and Garlic fries, wow... that burger was amazing. So much flavor, big piece of Avocado on top as well as some spice aioli topping it all off. I recommend that you cut the burger in half as it's pretty messy. The garlic fries are an okay size, I expected them to be bigger since the menu says for 2-3 people, unless she marked me down for the "selfish" order which I didn't order. Nonetheless, everything was very good. Ending the meal, I got the doughnuts with Nutella. Typically I don't ever do dessert nor do I have a sweet tooth, but man am I glad I got them, the donuts come out hot and the Nutella is cold which cools the doughnut down pretty quickly, very very highly recommended! Although the food is okay, the experiences I've had in the past three visits has been horrendous. The restaurant is busy, but that seems to be the excuse for incorrect meals received on these three take-out orders. After placing our take-out order for lunch on the weekend, we (two families) waited over 45 minutes *after* the communicated 30 minutes to have the food delivered. And then, the food was missing one meal. Tonight, another meal was missing. It's lucky that we eat in the nearby park and not take it home, as we would have been down one meal at dinner. The manager managed to get the meal made quickly (under 10 minutes), but with no offer of compensation. I can't see supporting this restaurant again until service accuracy is improved -- someone needs to verify out-going orders are complete. read more

Love the food here. I know a number of people have given it a low review, but honestly I think the food is better than most burger bars and without doubt a great selection of burgers! Their cauliflower wings, salt and pepper wings and flight of beers are great! If you love desert, so leave room for the donuts and the sauces are amazing! If your lucky enough to get a table on the balcony and enjoy a sunset over the Fraser, it does set you up for a pleasant evening with those you wish to spend time with. Great spot for a quick snack and beer if you're waking along the River District trail. The lager is nice and light, the sliders were quite good, the fries were decent. The location is AWESOME. We grabbed a seat outside and just chilled with our snacks and watched the waterfront. Hope to see more spots pop up in this neighbourhood! read more

Food- the shrimp dumplings were tasty. I would order again. The New York steak dinner was a huge disappointment for $35. The mashed potatoes were COLD! Now I know they come from the freezer. I only ate 1/3 of the steak, veggies, and mashed potatoes. I covered the plate with my napkins so no one sees how bad it was. I ordered NY cheesecake. The texture was akin to rubberized gelatin or week-old Philadelphia Cream Cheese. Lesson learned? Yes! I will just stick with what I have consistently enjoyed from Romers...their Mac 'n Cheese (sorry...burgers aren't as good as Bin 41). From the moment we arrived to the establishment, we were ignored and waited for 10 minutes. When a caucasian couple came, they were served and brought to the bar right away. My boyfriend and I ignored it, however another caucasian male told the hostess that we were there first and stuck up for us. We then felt as though this restaurant was very racist. Since then, my boyfriend and I haven't been back for a year. Today, my friends and my boyfriend decided to give the restaurant another shot. Our waitress had a very bad attitude, and said, "can i see two pieces of ID my manager is watching so I have to pretend I'm working" our drinks were frozen and she took so long to serve them that my belini melted. She never handed us cutlery and our water cups looked stained. When we ordered three "Mans man" burger it took 30 mins to an hour to come and when we tasted it, it was burnt. After informing her that all three of the burgers were burnt she sent them back to the kitchen and asked us if we wanted donuts to make up for the burger. We took "too long" to reply so she left. The service was not the best. When we got there, there was what seemed like 2 entrances that said "line up here please". We stood at one entrance while 3 employees chatted amongst themselves with their back to us. We then walked to the other entrance and asked why we were ignored. The one hostess said "what, you didn't see the takeout window?" like we were idiots. There was no signage saying that entrance is for takeout/pickup. There was a silence, and the other hostess just mumbled, "I guess we don't have a sign saying so". I felt like they could have been less rude about it. The food was mediocre, we got burgers and the patties were small, and so overcooked that they were burnt. We didn't get any waters to start (before our drinks), during, or after our meal. They only have 2 individual bathrooms so be prepared to wait! If you're looking for a good burger place then I would highly recommend Romers! Can never go wrong! A lot of burger options to accommodate the meat eaters and the veggie eaters which is a bonus. Price is bit higher compared to most burger joints but you'll see why when you taste it. This location is along the Alex Fraser so they have big open windows with views of the sunset if you go during dinner time. But going during the hot sunny days is also refreshing with a nice cold drink! ;) I would recommend this place if you haven't done so already! read more

You can never go wrong with a restaurant that has mini donuts for dessert! Aside from Romers' burgers they are also popular for their freshly fried doughnut that comes with 3 tasty dips: Kahlua Nutella, Lemon Limoncello, and Maple Whisky. The Nutella and maple whiskey dips are amazing! Added bonus, they give you a coupon for free donuts after taking a survey online for your next visit! I recently visited Romers for their $5 classic special before 11am. What a great deal! The Benny came with a good amount of patatoe wedges too. The restaurant was packed in the early weekend mornings and gradually slows down by noon. Parking can be a little difficult in the morning because the restaurant is right by the residential area that is full of parked cars and the parking lot does get full fast in the morning too. But it is located in a very beautiful location overlooking the Fraser river so make sure you book a table in the indoor patio with a view! read more

Romer's was busy on a Friday night but we decided to eat at the bar so we didn't have to wait long for a table. Service staff were friendly and attentive. I ordered the calamari to start and a burger bowl for my main. The calamari was so-so as the texture was harder than usual and didn't have as much flavour. I enjoyed the burger as they use organic beef patties and because I ordered the bowl, it came with greens and avocado. A healthier version of a hamburger! Overall it gives a very manicured suburban feel to the whole thing, and I prefer the original Kits location because it feels like a real neighbourhood. But I digress. Service was better at this new location. Even though it is fairly new the waitstaff was well trained and very on top of things. I ordered the rodeo star (awful name, I know) burger which has ancho spicing, applewood bacon, red onions, tomatoes, horseradish jack, bbq sauce and cilantro served on a grilled brioche bun. The service was alright last night, the waitress may have been tired. I think they have a great happy hour menu from what I saw. Romer's Burger is the only restaurant in the River District so it gets incredibly busy. I made reservations for a Friday night and when I got there, they said that I didn't make any. I showed them on the phone that I had called 2 days ago, but the girl just said, sorry, no reservations. I then asked for the manager and he remembered me and apologized that he recorded it on the wrong date. I was annoyed, but mistakes happen, so that's OK. Our waitress was bubbly and sweet. She recommended which salads to get with our burgers. We tried both the quinoa salad and the potato salad. The quinoa wins hands down, although I would order it with the dressing on the side next time. It was too much. For the burger, I had the Magic Mushroom: caramelized onions / portobello mushrooms / herb garlic Boursin / baby arugula. I loved it and it was organic too. -bonus! Came here a couple of days ago for dinner. It's a beautiful location with patio and overlooks the river. Wish it could be bigger! Reservations are highly recommended as it does fill up despite its somewhat remote location. Resos must be done 24 hours in advance however. Anyway I ordered the burger of the month which was the "Americano". It's described as having a "brioche bun, organic beef patty, fried cheddar planks, smoked bacon, relish, yellow mustard, shredded lettuce, vine ripe tomatoes, bacon aioli". We also had the regular fries, truffle fries, onion rings, poutine, and donuts to share. The burger was delicious... Except that the patty was dry. The rest of the toppings were top notch. The cheddar planks made the burger really thick and difficult without the burger falling apart, but was integral to the burger. The fries complement the meal well. The truffle fries, onion rings, and poutine were alright, nothing too amazing to type more about. Although I felt the poutine could have used more cheese. It was all concentrated in the middle and was lacking near the ends of the plate. My recommendation is stick with the regular or sea salt fries. However, the donuts are amazeballs. There are 10 mini donuts and comes with 3 dipping sauces. They almost remind me of Krispy Kreme donuts because they are so soft minus the glaze. A must have if you still have room in your stomach. The food did take a little long to arrive. Service was okay. Although I felt the server could have checked up on us more. There was also a long gap between when we first got our menus to when she came back for our orders. However, I was with great company which didn't make the waits seem as long. Overall, I would rate the food somewhere in between 3.5 to 4. But the major selling point here is definitely the ambience and location. This experience was a big fail. I was pleased to come in a little earlier on a weekday and see it not as busy! Seated quickly but there was a lack of servers and we waited a while to place drink orders. I ordered a beer and away the waitress went, then another person asked to take our drink orders (a manager I'm guess based on the blazer) so we said someone already did. The waitress came back and said there's something wrong with the keg of beer I ordered so I picked something else. Then the manager comes back with original order, I said no thanks I already ordered something else because there's something wrong with that keg. She abruptly puts the drink down and says "there's nothing wrong with it I just had to bleed the line for a while" plain rude and bad customer service. I know that means sometimes mouldy lines and beer that has been stagnant. I shouldn't have to accept the beer just because she's lazy. She leaves and I taste the beer and yep it's completely flat. I'm not an expert but I frequent many breweries and do my own home brews and I know the kolsch I ordered shouldn't have been so flat. Ugh. Other waitress comes and she kindly takes it away and brings the other order. Now the food. Wings to start and the tip of them being 6.5 was dead on. 7 tiny wings in a basket for 12$! What a scam. We shared the shrimp tacos and there was nothing fresh in them, no cilantro salsa nothing, not even a slaw?! They at least came with fries but I've had better tacos from food courts. The burger I ordered was cut in half and it was served all fallen apart as it was put down, seriously the patty was in four pieces. The girl dropping it off said "sorry" then walked away. I'm all for a good Messy burger if that means sauces etc squashing out but if it's just a tiny patty that's crumbled to pieces and you have to eat the whole thing with a knife and fork. It was dry. The whole bill came up to $75. I'm pleased as punch to pay this and much more for a meal, as long as it's not dry, broken into bits and lacking in anything fresh. The River District is, I think, one of Vancouver's best kept secrets. Hidden down off Southeast Marine Drive, this little neighbourhood is growing fast. New riverside homes are going up next to trails for walking and biking, and there's a community centre offering Zumba, Pilates and Yoga. There's even a Farmers' Market every Saturday morning. Romer's has been smart to get in on the action here and has one of the best top-secret patios in town. I took my parents here for brunch this weekend and we were immediately seated outside with a fantastic view of the river. I was a bit disappointed when we got there to find that the posted menu on the website was NOT the menu on offer - it was actually much more limited. While the posted menu featured a variety of breakfast offerings including French toast and the like, there were pretty much only a few Benny's and the Jimmy's breakfast sandwich to be had. Luckily we all found things we liked, but that was disappointing. I had the Quinoa benny - instead of an English muffin the benny was on roasted quinoa patties. It was actually really good! I'm not sure the "apple slices" that were meant to be included were in there, but whatever it was was good. There was a small amount of pan fried potatoes - a pretty small portion but what was there was good - and deliciously flavoured with basil. I ordered a side of bacon which consisted of - one piece of bacon. I know the price of bacon has gone up lately thanks to a virus affecting pigs, but $2.50 for one piece of bacon seems a little crazy. My dad had the Breakfast Sandwich which he thought was amazing. The service was great and we enjoyed mimosas in the sunshine on a Sunday morning, so I can't complain too much - but I hope they bring back a more diverse menu soon - and maybe add some bacon. :) read more

Small location. Young staff so there might be a few hiccups with service, otherwise usually no issue. Been coming here since they opened and they usually have a good rotation of food and drinks. I cannot say enough good things about romer's seasonal jerk chicken and mango tacos. Every time they are in season I either go in or order it to-go because it is AMAZING. Its served on a roti shell and its my absolute favourite. I wish it wasn't seasonal because I would probably order it all year long if I could. There's usually little to no parking available so car-pool if you can and save the headache of street parking. Indoor and patio space for your liking! Romer's takes it meals seriously. Up front, they let you know they don't rush and your burger will take as long as it take meaning a little extra time to be prepared just right. I ordered the righteous rib burger with thick-sliced applewood bacon, braised short rib, sweet onions, Gorgonzola garlic sauce, and fresh thyme leaves. It was pretty solid and well-cooked, a mouthful. Unlike most restaurants, fries don't come standard with your burger so I got an order of garlic fries. I love fries, am not picky, and garlic makes everything better. They were very crisp and didn't skimp on the garlic. Devon went with the magic mushroom burger with angus beef, chopped portobellos, arugula, herb and garlic Boursin cheese, and caramelized onion with a twist. For a dollar more, you can "make it green" and substitute your bun with two rolls of lettuce. Needless to say, it got messy and she ended up eating hers as a salad. It was a very filling meal and the beef quality was high with nicely cooked burgers and crisp, tasty fries. I am usually very cautious of eating big burgers as it is common for it to get messy but I can say this place has changed my opinion! The view and seating is very nice as you can be on the inside of the restaurant or be seated outside. I was very pleased by the options presented on the menu and by the convince the staff provided. I ordered two different burgers and the chefs cut the burger in half and had it prepared exactly to the liking I had requested. For once the soft drink was actually full and not filled halfway with ice as some other restaurants have it. They also did not cheap out on the sauces provided with the burgers and fries and were not hesitant at all when refilling drinks. My experience overall was very pleasant and I would highly recommend this burger bar to friends and family. However it is pricey indeed and the menu could be expanded a bit. read more

Surprised how busy it was at 1 p.m. on a Tuesday! Had to wait a few minutes for a seat. While waiting, saw all these orders for fish and chips go out which looked really good; so that's what I ordered. My partner ordered a fish burger and we had a little salad and the deep fried chicken wings for appys. The little salad was very little but good (had freshly shaved cheese with pecans). Salt and peppered wings were great. Fish burger was good, and the fish and chips were amazing! Light and crispy batter and the fish was fresh and light tasting as well. It was only one piece but well sized! Service was decent; great atmosphere esp. on a nice day looking out and watching a tug boat go by with it's barge. Wi-Fi is hit and miss. Saw the bad reviews, but we had a good experience. It's really busy here, so that definitely says something. I feel conflicted about Romers. I went to Romer's twice, the first of which inspired the glowing review I previously wrote. I went a third time and my experience was...not ideal. The food was on par with usual, good portions, good taste. (Except the popcorn was extremely salty.) My only complaint is that every time, the bun is never warm. Luckily the patty makes up for it. Why my experience was only so-so: I recommended the place as a venue for my friend's farewell dinner. I called on Wednesday to make a reservation for 10. The fellow that picked up confirmed it was the River district location. Took my info down and we were good to go. Saturday 6pm comes around, I get a call from my friend informing me that apparently there is no table for us and asked what they should do. As my husband was driving (we were running late) I was madly yelping and calling all the nearby restaurants for tables but as it was a Saturday evening, no one could accommodate a group of 10 until 8pm. Our party had driven from all over (Coquitlam, West Van, Richmond, Burnaby) to come to Romers and we ended up standing outside the restaurant in the rainy cold. I was frustrated and went in to speak to the staff. I showed them my phone record to verify that I called the correct Romers. Their initial suggestion to me was to go to the Romers in Kitsilano - gee, no thanks. While I was thoroughly peeved that an employee messed up my reservation and nearly ruined our evening, I have to give props to the manager on shift. I think her name was Stephanie? She quickly accessed the restaurant, the waitlist and tables and offered that they had a reso that was late and would give me their table if they still did not show in 10min. Great location in the brand new River District right by the Fraser river with pretty amazing burgers. Came with a couple of friends for Saturday night dinner/drinks and it was PACKED! Who: x4 What: (I can only speak to what I had but all my friends' burgers look pretty bomb. i also verbally confirmed with them and it was indeed bomb) 1) Magic mushroom burger: absolutely magical. it made me hallucinate about having another one. mushrooms, cheese, arugula, thick, juicy patty and nice shiny buns. 2) Garlic fries: super garlicky! not the biggest fan of garlic fan personally but garlic people will probably go crazy over this. 3) Parmesan truffle fries: pretty good. not parm-y enough but otherwise tasty. 4) Fried donuts: Didn't feel like this was anything special. It tasted like Tiny Toms donuts to me. For those who have never had Tiny Toms it tastes like...tiny fried donuts. 5) Red wine sangria: Special on sat for $5! When: Sat - 7:30pm. Waited for approx 20 min. Where: We sat outside which was kind of cold. Probably could have done with some patio heating, especially with a climate like Raincouver. You need to count on your luck here... sometimes the food is really good, sometimes disappointing. :( Today the calamari, always delicious, had the batter so spicy that I couldn't eat. And the Brussels sprouts (well, check the picture and tell me if it's supposed to be with this amount of oil or not)! read more

I was glad to see Romer's with take-out combo deals but disappointed that they advertised the pop would come in cans and we got it in to-go cups. The pop was flat, the brussel sprouts were mushy and soaked in oil, the Harvest Bowl had undercooked yams and overly soft beets. Really disappointed as once you bring your order home, there isn't anything you can do about it. read more

I ordered for delivery (third party) the basic burger and fries. It took awhile and unfortunately the food was pretty cold when it arrived but I can't blame the restaurant for that. I just mention it in case someone is considering delivery. Nevertheless , the burger was delicious, you can tell it's good quality beef and I loved the bun, fries were good and the side pickle was amazing! It was a bit expensive but I'll try it again and go in next time rather than ordering for delivery. read more

Just came here for dinner with my buddy, first time here and I gotta say the burger was pretty damn good. I had the man's man burger it was very good minus the fried onions it came with, but the patty was very flavorful and not dry at all, the bun was very good as well, it didn't break apart like some burgers do when your'e halfway eating it. Our server was nice and friendly. The place is quite small and had a small patio as well with a nice view of the fraser. I'm pretty sure I'll be back. read more
