Exceptional drinks! Exceptional lux. Exceptional service, exceptional ambience exceptional! You don't take this out

Bunny Hop , Sweet Spring
Kevin R.

Always drove by the spot and have been wanting to try it! Pleasantly surprised and worth it. I tried some of their spring menu drinks which included the Bunny Hop and Sweet Spring. The Bunny Hop is a white mocha strawberry latte and it was delicious; the strawberry added sweetness and freshness. Sweet spring is a butter pecan caramel latte and it was good coffee with slight notes of butter pecan. Service was great , I was allowed time to look over their extensive menu as it was my first time. Drinks and food came out fast. The ambiance is great , way bigger inside than I thought and nicely decorated. Plenty of seating inside with some seats outside. Overall , loved it and would come back to try their sandwiches!

Really great spot in Burbank with ample, comfortable seating to work in. Coffee was fantastic. I got a Brie toast as well with apple and caramelized onion and it was top tier. Staff could be a bit friendlier, but overall a good experience

Chai Latte and half Half Sandwich w/ Souphalf

Love the chai latte and half soup/half sandwich options! Great ambiance and customer service. Kitchen staff delivered my food and offered to pick it up, nice gesture even though there's a plate drop off option. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Really enjoyed my time eating, drinking and reading my book there.

I adore this place. Service is great and quick depending on the line, but they hustle! More importantly they're nice. Interior is hip. Coffee is good. Food and pastries are delightful. Sit inside and plug away on your laptop or sit outside with a friend and enjoy the sun.

Caprese salad & Hibiscus tea! Kettle chips on side.

Oh, this place is a gem! I love the coffee, the Hibiscus tea, the food, and everything about the ambiance. It has that classic Paris Bistro vibe--- Good food and good coffee. I had the caprese salad this time around, with a side of their yummy in-house kettle chips. So addicting. I usually get a coffee here, and they never fail to make the perfect cup, whether it's iced or a hot mocha. The staff is always friendly and grounded in that way that makes LA so interesting. The neighborhood is the best, with cute boutiques and my favorite improv theater, The LA Connection Theater. Yes, I perform there sometimes. :)

Stopped by for a morning latte to go and it is so cozy and great for working and relaxing, very inviting atmosphere. My favorite is their almond croissant, but all their fresh pastries and coffee are delicious . I also ordered breakfast burrito for later. Decided to try it when I got home and everything blended perfectly the cheese, potatoes and eggs, amazing.! Their staff is friendly and helpful, making the experience wonderful. The ambiance is warm and inviting, like a cozy escape in Magnolia Park. A hidden gem with amazing drinks and food. It reminds me of the reason why I keep coming back.! They have good quality, food & coffee.

Local burbank breakfast lunch spot. I love their pastries - almond croissant, muffins - very unique flavors. Don't even get me started on the cookies - so good! You order at the front counter and are given a number if you are dining in, they will deliver your food directly to your able. They will also bus the table after you finish eating. Love. how many neighbors around magnolia area, gather here, on this morning you could see several friends catching up over coffee and some food. Servers are nice and the space is very opening.

Not excited to update my review based on my last experience. For starters, I used to love Romancing the Bean and would come here for an afternoon pick me up, study session, or to hang out with friends. It was exciting and always something to look forward to. Unfortunately my recent experience was nothing like it used to be. I decided to take two friends here to catch up and celebrate and thought it would be fun to come to Romancing the Bean since we used to come here all the time. We showed up around 2:30pm and were excited because it wasn't crowded and there wasn't a line to order. Then it went downhill. My friends wanted to get the caramel frappe (it was their favorite before) and I decided to try the seasonal Coco-Loco (espresso, dark chocolate sauce, coconut milk) since the barista recommended it on the seasonal drinks sign. I did tell her I am not always the biggest fan of coconut, so we subbed almond milk, but was otherwise I expecting something great! My drink came first and it looked like it had the potential to be great, but looks can be deceiving. It should have essentially been an iced mocha latte, but it had a very strange taste and the dark chocolate sauce was chalky (and chunky) at the bottom of the cup. No amount of stirring could redeem this drink - it's just not for me. I was disappointed, but was willing to deal with it to not let my friends know my drink was not good. But the unfortunate saga continues! Here comes my friends frappe... looking like a blended cup of milk with maybe 2 ice cubes filled all the way to the brim (no whipped cream, no caramel sauce, just blended milk). It didn't look like a frappe at all and didn't taste like caramel flavor either. My friends would get this drink all the time and had one recently so they knew right away the drink was off. On top of that, it was spilling on the counter and we come to find the lid isn't even fully on, leading us to have to dump half in the trash as we cleaned up the dripping. This took a couple of minutes and no assistance was offered from the staff, if they even noticed, as we wrangled the cup and milky-mush-not-frappe by the door. Safe to say, this beverage absolutely would not do, and we didn't want to be down nearly $13 between these two lackluster beverages. We took the sad excuse for a frappe back to the counter. It was obvious the barista knew the drink was whack by the way she looked at the cup as she walked up to us. She took a long glance at the dripping cup, then at us, then at the cup again, and she offered to remake it as we started to explain the poor consistency and flavor of the liquid-y beverage, the dripping, the lid not being on, and the lacking any resemblance to a frappe with no whipped cream and no caramel drizzle. After the drink gets remade and the barista says "does it look better?" as she was turning back away from the pick up counter. Now I would really like to believe for her sake it was asked from a place of genuine curiosity, rather than as a snarky, rude, rhetorical question. I'll let you take a guess (correct answer: it was the latter). This experience was a 1/5 star experience. I only decided to given them 2 stars since we at least finally got a beverage that seemed adequate by the end of it, even though the kindness and genuineness of the service was questionable. I personally don't plan to come back anytime soon. This place is not what it used to be. I do sincerely hope that changes.

Mango Madness Smoothie, Cookies
Dustin S.

Romancing The Bean was a great idea for a quick snack and a smoothie to help keep me going on a very busy Tuesday morning. They were somewhat busy and the service was great. I liked the option to be able to sit and work at a table, but I chose to take my items to go. The smoothie and chocolate chip toffee cookie were great, and I hope to be back to try more of the menu when I'm visiting the Burbank area later this year.

I ordered the bagel with butter and jam. I got a plain toasted bagel instead.

Ask the Community - Romancing the Bean Cafe

Are there outlets to plug in my laptop?

Yes there are scattered outlets underneath the benches on the wall. It just requires you to bend under the bench and squeeze it in sometimes.

Are there gluten free breads/wrap options?

They do have gluten free bread that you can sub for the sandwiches. The spinach wraps are not gluten free though. I highly recommend the avocado toast on the gluten free bread!!

I fell in love before i even saw the menu. Now don't even get me started on that world class water. Best water I've ever consumed. Perfectly cold and delectably drinkable. They have a whole freaking sign for their sauces and dips. I'm in love. I got a Shirley temple and if i could marry a place instead of a person, the Shirley temple would be my reason. It was FANTASTIC. Our server, Isaiah, was absolutely amazing and on top of things, refilling our water before we even hit half glass. Not to mention his energy and vibe was so welcoming and fun. We got the PuPu platter for two, came out within minutes, I could spend the rest of my life eating that alone. Isaiah recommended his favorite sauces, Garlic Chive and Chipotle Citrus, they were amazing. We got the shrimp and lobster roll, I officially entered heaven. The Isles of Club sandwich was the finishing touch that had me laughing from joy. Near the end of our dining we meant Max, another server, who is absolutely fantastic, brought us everything we needed, boxes, sauce containers, bags, to-go dessert. His energy was also amazing and super fun. Now some extra things to note: -I'm not a big mac salad girly, but holy moly guacamole i loved their Mac salad. -anything tempura/fried in this place is heaven itself -their fries are perfect -the vibe is beyond life you might start crying in joy -be ready to want to buy everything on the menu and then some -I downloaded yelp just to leave this review Overall, Broken Compass Tiki is the perfect place for everyone. Their service is top tier, the food is delicious, the water is a treasure, and so much more. I will be back and I hope everyone has a chance of experiencing pure joy at this place.

Broken Compass Tiki is a pirate themed tiki bar in Burbank…read more They don't having a parking lot, but it was very easy to find street parking just around the corner on a Sunday afternoon. The front of the building is a little vaguely marked, and the entrance has speakeasy vibes, which was a surprise. Upon walking in the front door, there is some tiki décor and a small counter in the rear. I remember thinking to myself "what the heck, this is it?". I checked in at the host stand on the left, and was handed me a boarding pass. She then led us through a hidden door behind what looked like a shipping crate. We were now in the real Broken Compass. The interior is a good size. The two-sided bar seats around a dozen. There is a lounge side of the bar that has two large booths along the wall, and another area with comfortable looking couches and lounge chairs. The main dining room has some tiki hut booths, and two sections of tables with half booth and half chair. The décor is pretty extensive with a good mix of pirate, nautical, and tiki themes. There is a lot of bamboo, thatch, rope, cargo netting, skulls and skeletons, port holes, octopus tentacles, jellyfish, tiki lights, and more. The ceiling is dark with various nautical and pirate markings, and even tied up ship sails overhead. The tiki hut booths have the parrots from the enchanted tiki room above them. Even the two restrooms are nautical themed, with beach and marine sounds playing. There is a lot of great décor to look at. We arrived around 2pm on a Sunday, so it wasn't very busy yet. By the time we left a few hours later, it was starting to get busy. We decided to sit at the bar. We started out with the buffalo cauliflower ($14) for an afternoon snack. The serving size was generous, and the buffalo sauce had a good tang. It was served with some sauces, and was surprisingly filling. A nice feature of the cocktail menu is that each drink displays one to three compass stars to indicate the strength of the drink. Their cocktails use a great variety of liquors including ones you don't often see. Many of the ingredients are made in-house. I started out with Chupacabra's Vacation (Demerara Rum, Jamacian Rum, Pomegranate Reduction, Cinnamon, Lime Juice, Bitters, two-star boozy rank, $17). It is served with a flaming lime on top and a little fire show. It was balanced with a light booziness, some light pomegranate flavor, and a cinnamon sprinkle on top. She started out with the Bittersweet Paradise (Jamacian Rum, White Rum, Campari, Passionfruit Syrup, Lemon, Lime, Pineapple, two-star boozy rank, $18). It didn't drink boozy at all, and was passion fruit forward, with light bitterness. My second cocktail was the Bermuda Dune Buggy (Gin, Overproof Rum, Kumquat Liqueur, Cassis, Orange, Lime, Bitters, two-star boozy rank, $18). It had a very unique garnish of a Chartreuse infused gummy which was delicious. The drink was nicely balanced, and didn't really drink boozy even with overproof rum in it. They have a rotating monthly cocktail and she tried the Tropic Like It's Hot (Coconut Washed Lemongrass Infused Rum, Mango, Lemon, Coconut Water, Amaro, $17) which was created by one of our bartenders Daniel. It was served in a Spam can and was light and refreshing with a nice pop of fruit at the start, and a very nice coconut flavor. We enjoyed sitting at the bar and had great conversation with our bartenders Daniel and Monica. They also provided excellent service. Broken Compass supports payment with the InKind app which gives you 20% back (10% on Friday and Saturday) in InKind cash. We had a really great time here, and the drinks, food, décor, and atmosphere were excellent. I purchased a Hork (Horse-shaRK) mug for $50 to bring home as a souvenir. We would definitely return again when in the area.

We've been doing that for a few years now, so that should tell you something right there. Our order is fairly consistent: we each start with a mimosa that comes in a highball glass, so one is usually all we need. Next, we share an order of kimchi biscuits (you get two). So delicious! Packed full of kimchi, bacon and cheddar cheese, it's a nice combo of flavors that play well together. The interior is usually soft and warm, with a nice crunchy crust. Top that with a smatter of the cinnamon butter that it comes with...yum! Our choice of entree varies, anything from avocado toast, to their kale and seaweed salad or any of their other selections they have from their brunch/lunch menu. On this outing, my friend and I both opted for the bibimbap. I opted for the pork bulgogi while my friend got the chicken version. It comes with a generous amount of carrots, zucchini, shiitake mushrooms and bean sprouts, and is topped with a runny, sunny side up egg that serves as an excellent sauce when you mix everything together, along with the gochujang sauce. We upgraded and got it with brown rice in the hot stone bowl. Worth it! The regular bibimbap is good, but when you mix in the crunchy crust that comes from the bottom of the stone bowl, you get an additional texture that makes the dish really stand out. The flavors already come together nicely, and the crunchy bits just enhance the experience. For dessert, we like to share the "lemon pie", which is actually a scoop of lemon gelato that comes in a glass that also includes graham crackers, topped with toasted marshmallows. A nice way to end the meal. And the staff! We usually either have Justin or Ann as our server, but everyone there is super friendly and helpful. They are consistently good at checking up on you and making sure you have everything you need. Just another 5 star reason of why we keep coming back!
