Sadly, my last visit to Romancing the Bean after supporting them for the past 15 years. I was one of the original customers at their first Burbank location. Been to the Magnolia location at least half a dozen times in the last year, each time it gets less and less impressive. Prices are outrageous, the staff is completely disengaged/disaffected compared to the way the owner and her kids used to take care of the business. And sadly, the food is inconsistent and sometimes flat out not good. Paid $75 for myself and my two kids for two toasted bread sandwiches that masqueraded as actual sandwiches with other items inside, a salad that looked way better on the menu than what was actually presented, and a mango smoothie with avocado that had so little mango in it you couldn't taste it at all. Just not worth the hassle for the cost. We're done. read more

My friend has a pit whose name is Beans so ofc, we had to COME. I loved the inside of the restaurant and the outside seating are was just right. Right of the bat I fell in love with their quinoa bowl (just add a little bit of Tabasco). It was absolutely delicious! I had a beer and carrot drink, which was also very delicious and finished off with a Mexican hot chocolate cookie. Loved everything about It , wish It wasn't so hot that day. This has become one of our favorite coffee shops. It's located in a great section in Burbank, plenty of parking around. Romancing the bean is quaint and romantic setting. The menu has lots of options, but we drive out for the phenomenal egg sandwich. What we love is how soft & fluffy the eggs are... but the combination of white cheddar & sourdough is delightful!! So me and my friends come here at least once a week and sometimes twice a week and we always order multiple things from the menu. Today, Friday the 13th we came in (3 of us) and we sat by the wall because we needed to charge our devices. One of my friends brought a drink and a sandwich when we first sat down. Me and my other friend started working and was waiting for the long line to go down. 2 of us went outside to get something from our friends car and our other friend was watching our stuff so she couldn't easily walk up and leave our stuff behind. The manager walks over to my friend (we are all Black by the way) and asks if we were ordering anything and not just drinking water. And then said that this isn't an Internet cafe. My friend mentioned that we buy all the time and we are buying today and she was just waiting for us to come back so she could order. My friend reiterated she was going to order. The manager did not use a great tone. She then walked away after the 3rd time explaining. Very poor treatment and it looked bad because she only approached the only people of color in the cafe. Overall the and drinks are good though. She also came back to us and she had a very nasty attitude and telling us that she is barely making it after the pandemic and the writers strike. But hey we're writers and we are supporting this cafe. We pointed out several people that she never approached and her response was that they're regulars. I get dragged here few times a month by coworker. They always have something they are out of. Bacon, a smoothie ingredient, etc. it's never the same item but it always prevents you from ordering what you want. It feels like there is no manager and the staff are doing their best but no one is in charge. The staff are fine but as a previous reviewer wrote disinterested is a the best way to describe them. So you want to go to Porto's but the lines around the block and there aren't many outdoor tables. Go a few more blocks and stop here, a charming little cafe with delicious pastries and sandwiches with ample outdoor dining. I had the bagel breakfast sandwich, delicious and perfectly done! I mean I used to go here and it was fine but went to day and ordered a Brie and apples sandwich and it was almost just apples and bread (this was 20 dollars with tax/tip) and my friend ordered a half sandwich which came to the same price but was a finger sandwich, very tiny. They said "that's just how are prices are.. it's the same if you order a half" ok sure.. but it wasn't even a full half of a sandwich (pic below) I asked for something they could do and they did fix it but said " we will make an exception" and kept saying "it's not our fault".. we were being super nice about it! This place is great HOWEVER the kale and Brussel sprout salad could use a pick me up... I ordered the salad to go and asked for the dressing on the side because no one likes getting a soggy salad when they get home. When I got home there was a fork and small container of dressing and the salad. The menu says it comes with a lemon vinaigrette dressing (which is very good) with almonds, dried cherries, Brussel sprouts and kale. There may be one more item but I can't remember...so I get home and go to eat the salad and it's pretty much a container of KALE with a sprinkling of cherries, almonds and shaved Brussel sprouts. I was disappointed to say the least considering when you get all those ingredients plus dressing in your mouth - it's delicious but seeing my salad and continuing to eat it - I'm pretty much eating a bowl of kale. I would love to see you guys amp up the ingredients and dressing because all in all it's a delicious salad, it just lacked what a good salad it could be. Came for the name, stayed for the pumpkin lattes. That's right, pumpkin LATTES in the plural form. I realize pumpkin drinks are divisive, but the fall drink fans like me, this place will warm your little autumnal heart. They had an entire list of fall drink specials, from pumpkin marshmallow to maple. I tried the pumpkin pie latte and it was absolutely fantastic - rich, creamy, comforting, and not overly sweet. I'll definitely be back to try more! Be forewarned they did have wifi rules which I found a little odd, so don't come here and use a laptop in the morning between 11am-2pm because apparently it's not allowed? Kind of a weird and unwelcoming vibe with signs posted everywhere about who's allowed to use the wifi, when a laptop can or cannot be used, and how long you're allowed to sit at a table. However, the menu makes up for it. I'll definitely be back to try more because my latte was phenomenal! This place has gone SO downhill. The prices are fine - but for the amount of food given? It's actually a joke. I'm fine with paying a premium to a small business, but have some pride in your food and service... I've given this place SO MUCH business and honestly every time I come it gets 10% worse. They do not care about the food they send out. Any entree with "side of fruit" is 3 slices of days old banana, 3 blueberries and 1 strawberry if you get lucky. It's disgusting. They really are counting every slice of onion and tomato and you can certainly tell. A restaurant/cafe should have pride in their food and what they're serving, with pleasure and joy. This place USED to be that, it is certainly not that anymore. Not even close. I'm embarrassed to bring people here, and it's sucks cause it used to be one of my favorite places! Also - no laptop policy.... What? On top of that.. there's a time limit on tables. Save yourself the headache of high prices for very little food, table time limit, no laptop policy and weird service vibes (no smiles.. nothing). Go somewhere else! read more

It should be zero stars. I'd like to give businesses an opportunity to fix there mistakes or even simply acknowledge the mistake before I will write a review like this. BUY BEWARE!!!! I was sold cake with MOLD, yes Mold. I mean how long was the cake sitting on the counter for MOLD to have grown. What a disappointment to have bought nearly $50 bucks on Pastries for your mom's birthday and to be have mold on it. Just gross! I wasn't going to bother call or write them cause the customer service I receive was the absolutely the worse not friendly at all. In fact the guys there clearly didn't want to be there. I ask a question on how to order a dozen of there pastry and they sent me to another business. That makes no sense. I felt obligated to call this morning to let them know so they would sell it to a another customer, it was 8am (yes I know it must have been busy), but Michael who answered the phone blocked me from speaking with the manager. I told him that it was important (gave me attitude like nothing I had to say was important because I wasn't a customer in front of him) and why -his response was (in a rude tone) "I already know what you're talking about and it's gone." Well, you didn't know yesterday or the day before or the day before that. (So if you bought carrot cake in the last few days, it likely had mold) Having mold is a pretty severe offense if there was mold on cake what else has mold on it that they're not paying attention to and then they clearly don't seem to care highly disappointing and dangerous do better romancing the bean do better. So in the end I throw out everything I bought and wasted $50. Maybe try a different spot. read more

Lol wow I can't think of a more snooty, pretentious establishment masquerading as a local, "down to earth" coffee shop. The employees clearly hate their lives, and want to make sure to pass off their negativity on to each customer. Working in a service job, professionalism and a good attitude is a must. I watched someone curiously ask for napkins and the employee rudely pointed to where napkins should be without saying a word. I'll also note that there was not a single POC customer until we walked in, and this employee (whose skin is as brown as mine) gave us the worst service. Unwelcoming vibes all around. If your skin lacks melanin, you'll be treated fine. Coffee itself was mediocre, and our simple coffee orders were still made incorrectly. Will never return. read more

Romancing the beannnn this is place is a surprisingly low key breakfast cafe, they have simple yet tasteful breakfast/brunch options. Like bagels, quiches, breakfast scrambles, pastries, gluten free options which i can appreciate. This no fuss coffee shop requires that you order at the register in exchange for a number which will prompt staff to bring the correct order to the table. This place has just what to you need to have a tasteful bite while catching up with friends. Ideal for the busy bees of Burbank. Can't wait to bring my family/friends here. I had the tuna panini and it was good but not worth 14$! Also I got their house lemonade and it tasted really off so I asked for an ice tea and and it had stuff floating in it so I didn't drink it. I also want to say that their customer service was really horrible. I'm autistic and I was treated really poorly. Maybe they don't have any experience serving people with autism but I suggest they get training on it. I Stopped in for a quick bite. I order ham & cheese Sammie. It's was a good sandwich with plenty of ham. I enjoyed the sandwiches but feel that it was overpriced. Although my order was to go I did like the ambience. The decore is very cute and Reminded me of a French café. I would go back to have some coffee and maybe to meet some friends to chat. But in my opinion the sandwich should not be any more than $8-$9 bucks :-) read more

Used to utterly love this place for breakfast. Now the sourdough and wheat bread used for toast is dry or even stale, there is only cooking (unsalted) butter to put on toast, eggs are tasteless, barely any berries put on the breakfast plate, mocha is always served tepid rather than hot and in a paper cup even when dining in instead of a mug. I was super excited to come here because their menu looked healthy and delicious. I came here on a Monday it was a holiday so I was able to get in around 10am to have breakfast with my mom. QUINOA BOWL: 2 STARS I've had amazing quinoa bowls before so I came in with very high expectations that were quickly shattered. The bowl was pretty much just quinoa. It had 2 slices of avocado. Yes 2 slices. 1 poached eggs and like 5 pieces of onion and like 3 sun dried tomatoes. The bowl was over powered by quinoa it definitely needed more veggies. VANILLA LATTE: 2 STARS I usually finish my drinks but with this I just couldn't. The taste was odd. This is one of my favorite coffee shops in the LA area. The interior is very cute, with dark walls, bookshelf wallpaper, and comfy seats. They have 3 or 4 tables outside under a shaded awning as well, which is perfect for soaking in the sunshine. The pastry case is what keeps me coming back. The selection is always excellent, with cakes, homemade poptarts, muffins, scones, and more. The selection rotates so there's always something new to try and everything tastes absolutely amazing. The only negative aspects of the place is that they have no outlets, so I can't come to work on my laptop for extended periods of time- they also have a 90 minute table limit, which makes me think they are trying to specifically discourage people working there. I can't come here to work on paper edits and reward myself with a pastry every couple hours, which is what I really wanted to do. The other negative is that they have no flavors for there lattes. This isn't a big deal, but sometimes I want to switch it up! read more

Just wanted to update that time has passed since my first review and the non-caring baristas and workers are still shining. Maybe they hire people here that are family friends so they don't care how personable they are... I came in with a BOOK and LAPTOP (came a few times already, they can figure it out) and after I bought my usual French press and Bagel, I turn on my computer and there is NO Wi-Fi. Thought it was my computer at first but I went up to ask for the password and the guy nonchalantly said "oh yea our WiFi hasn't been working..." They need to set up a sign if that's the case and also let their patrons know. How many people wasted time because of their lack of service? This place doesn't change. This a solid place to go for socializing and/or studying. Comfortable seating and the food is very good. It does get loud and crowded on the weekends, which is not a complaint but a testament to their quality. But it does make studying a bit more difficult at times. There's just one complaint and it really annoyed me. They ask for tips. This, in and of itself, is not a problem. It never hurts to ask. However, the only thing they bring to you is your hot food. Drinks and pastries, you're up and grabbing from them yourself. They bring your food on nice, but heavy, plates and then, this is what pushed me over the edge, they want you to bus your own table. I'm carrying heavy plates and a glass mug to the bus bin and leaving a trail of silverware along the way while paying a 20% tip. I should be clear that I have no problem tipping for great service. I also have no problem cleaning up after myself. I do have a problem doing both. Don't tip this place until they start bussing tables at a bare minimum. read more

A cute cafe in Burbank, they have a wide selection of pastries, breakfast, sandwich, coffee and smoothie items. Famous curry chicken sandwich: not gonna lie this is the menu item that keeps me coming back. It's really flavorful and the salad it comes with is simple and good.
