I ordered the beef and lamb plate and dined in. The salad was fresh and the meat is cut into small bite-sized pieces. I was given a complimentary cup of tea as well. My plate came with a small amount of yogurt sauce, which tasted fresh. Food flavor was alright, but can use a little more seasoning. I would like the meat to be a little softer. Service was quick and the food came out quickly. This is a small restaurant with limited seating inside.

Casual spot in Berkeley for some delicious Mediterranean food. My friend and I came by Saturday evening for dinner, and it wasn't too crowded at 7 pm. You can either try to find paid metered parking nearby, or there's free residential street parking if you're willing to walk a couple blocks. There's a Trader Joe's across the street, but not sure if they offer parking. It's a small space with 6-7 tables. The menu is straightforward with two pages of options. They have all the standard fare such as rice plates and wraps. I got one of the house specials - Alexander's Favorite - for $18.95. It comes with thinly sliced lamb and beef gyro with bread cubes in fresh tomato sauce. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this was really delicious. I really liked the crunchy bread cube bites mixed in with the gyro and rice, and the tomato sauce was super tasty. Portions were big too, I couldn't finish the dish and took the leftovers home. My friend got the chicken shish kabob with rice and salad for $17.95. I tried a bite and we both agreed it was solid. We ended the meal on a sweet note with some baklava for $5.95. We're both huge fans of baklava, and this was some of the best we've had in a long time. Would recommend getting it here!

For flavor and juiciness of the meats I give 3.5 stars. However, +0.5 star for complimentary tea and the basket of pita bread. I ordered at the counter and table seating is limited but no one was there near closing time. The staff is friendly and I didn't feel rushed. Quick hits: + Combo platter is truly a little bit of everything which I am glad I did so I can tell you what's good here (5 stars) + Adana kebab plate has ground lamb and is the most juicy of all items (4.5 stars) + Lamb gyro is tender slices of meat that goes really well with the white tzatziki sauce (4 stars) + Beef or lamb kebab (?) is good but not tender enough (3.5 stars) + Chicken kebab is on the lean side so it's healthy but not juicy for my liking (3 stars) + Chicken gyro meat is also dry but a great source of healthy protein (3 stars) - I think a bit more sauce or side of hummus with the combo platter to help with the dryness would of made this a 5 star meal I have a high standard for Mediterranean style food. I love Greek, Persian and Turkish foods. I hope I'm not too harsh since this is a casual dining establishment.

This small restaurant near campus serves some of the best Mediterranean food I've had! I recommend the hummus and babaganoush, which both taste great with the pita bread. The wraps are fantastic here, and the plates are just as good. We like the lamb and beef gyro wrap, the Adena kebab wrap, and the chicken gyros wrap. But you also have to try the lamb and beef gyro plate, the chicken gyro plate, the chicken shish kebab plate, and the Alexander's Favorite plate, which is a special. You can top it all off with one of their stellar desserts: the baklava, kunefe, or rice pudding. In my opinion, you should keep coming back until you've tried them all! I don't think you'll regret it! The service here is fantastic. The staff are so friendly that you can tell how much pride they take in sharing their delicious recipes with the community in Berkeley. The dining area is small but very pretty. With large windows that they sometimes cover and some very nice artwork, it's an appetizing and peaceful place to eat. It's yummy, affordable, and a great place to bring friends and family for a satisfying and fun meal!

Came here after a hike for lunch and we were disappointed with the quality of meat. I didn't really enjoy the food. It was just OK. Service was fast and servers were nice though. Place was clean and organized.

10/10. Came to the area for a food tour and this was our first stop. 3 of us shared a plate and side of hummus...we left full and very happy! From service to meal, everything was excellent. Authentic Mediterranean flavors, fresh and colorful, with perfectly grilled and juicy chicken kebabs. Their hummus was equally amazing, had a bright yellow color and lighter texture than what I'm used to but now it's my new fav hummus. It's small and quaint inside with enough seating for small groups. Will come back for sure!

Chicken Gyro Plate - 9/10 rating

We unexpectedly based our plans to be in Berkeley for most of the afternoon/evening. We wanted some good Mediterranean food and Berkeley is one of the best cities to eat Mediterranean food. Therefore, we came across Rojbas Grill. I am genuinely so happy we did! I would go back for sure. *Overview: Food: 8/10 rating Service: 10/10 rating Ambiance: 7/10 rating *What we ordered: Dolma (4pcs) Chicken Gyro Plate Adana Kebab Plate FOOD: 8/10 rating The food was so flavorful. The proteins were juicy, seasoned well, and tender. I love how they served a platter of piping hot soft pita bread. It paired so well with our food. I was shocked by the complimentary hot tea served post-meal. It was not an average brewed Lipton tea. The tea was a yummy subtle herbal tea and perfect for digestion since we were so full. SERVICE: 10/10 rating The waiter was SO attentive. He was not overdoing it as well. He was very chill, kind, and attentive without us asking. He refilled our napkins and water without us asking. It bothers me when people say "It's their job and also they're just being nice for more tips". But, you can always tell when it's genuine! Ambiance: 7/10 rating I love how "homey" the ambiance is. Rojbas Grill has a lot of intricate details on their curtains, artifacts, etc. My favorite pieces were the Mandala art hung up on the walls. Parking can be decent. There is a lot of meter-based parking. However, on a busy weekend, it can be hard to find parking.

Excellent restaurant! Stopped in for lunch on Sunday and the service was super friendly and the food was delicious. We ordered the combo plate, the lamb kebabs and the baklava for dessert. Yum! Located across the street from Trader Joe's. I can see this quickly becoming my go to lunch spot every time I'm headed to pick up groceries.

10/10 best middle eastern / Kurdish in the East bat!

I have to admit the more Nick the Greek proliferates, the less I feel motivated to try it. That's because my previous experiences have been more middling than exceptional. What led me here was the convenience afforded me from the GrubHub app. I could pick up my order in less than 15 minutes and be on my bus on time. I ordered the $16.95 Prasini Salad with Chicken Gyro (Photo 7). The salad itself was refreshing enough consisting of romaine, scallions, dill, and crumbled feta with lemon zest dressing. The chicken gyro was unfortunately a bit greasy and overcooked. It didn't really enhance the salad. Instead of going for their signature Avgolemono Soup (which I've enjoyed), I probably made a mistake ordering the $5 Fries which had a similar consistency to the chicken (Photo 5). I'm impressed how Nick continues to pop up almost automatically in places with high foot traffic, but I'm hoping the speed of their growth is not compromising execution of their food. FOOD - 3 stars...the salad was good but the chicken and fries were lacking AMBIANCE - 3 stars...typical Nick decor, barely there for pickup SERVICE - 2.5 stars...transactional, no impression TOTAL - 3 stars...consistently middling RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? Dinner with a side of rude attitude. No thanks!…read more If it were not for the food, and I could give 0 stars, I would. Not sure if they were having a bad day, and we came on the wrong night, but that should not be any excuse. I use to frequent their old location, and have yet to go back since they moved. First attempt at the new location, I tried to come with 2 girl friends for an early lunch on a Monday at 11am. Their hours say they open at 10:30am, but it was 11:20am, and their doors were locked and the people inside said they were closed. Second attempt was on a Sunday evening at 6pm. We were 2 families totaling 8 people. We told the hostess/server our party size, and almost immediately, she did not seem too happy about it. That is when the attitude began. We looked around, and noticed that there were about 2 or 3 other tables of 2-3 people dining, so it was not like they were busy. We were really taken back by her reaction and tone, which made us worry about the service the rest of the night. We got seated, looked at the menu, and let her know we were ready to order. We were curious and had a few quick questions, such as which is popular and which type of meat comes in the plate (because it did not specify), but her responses were very rude. She even tried to give an attitude saying we could not change what comes on the plate, when in fact we were just adding to the order. She was just so quick to try to find a problem to speak on that she did not realize it was an addition. I started to get upset. I truly tried to keep my calm, but it was really hard with the way she was speaking. Food took pretty long to come out even though they were not busy. Good thing we were not in a rush. We noticed that the people next to us ordered before us, but our food came out first, so we felt bad. Then when their food did come out, I believe something was wrong, so they had to wait a little more. Although the food was decent, the service ruined the entire experience. For that reason, I would not go back.

Nothing crazy. But then my daughter noticed that the chicken in her Fattoush salad was a bit raw in the middle. She cut open all the pieces she still had on her plate, and a couple were the same. We called the server over and informed her that the chicken was undercooked. She took the salad to the kitchen to fix the problem. A couple of minutes later, she came back with her salad and said her chicken would be done in a bit. I think we were in shock. Never in my 57 years of life/30 years in the food industry have I ever seen a restaurant take the food off a plate that had bites taken out of it, salad that had been halfway consumed, PUT THE CHICKEN BACK ON THE GRILL, AND RE-SERVED THE SALAD TO THE CUSTOMER. We didn't quite know what to do. When she came back with the recooked chicken, we knew it was the same pieces because they were all cut in half as before. In hindsight, should we have called over the manager? Probably. He probably would have had the salad redone, which would have taken more time than we had. Did it take away the fact that they recooked half-eaten chicken on the grill and re-served the same salad? No. This is clearly a major health code violation. Then, when they cleared our plates, the server said to us, "You didn't want dessert, did you?" That was the icing on the un-ordered cake for us. So disappointing. Food was pretty tasteless, and service was... very odd. I think we're done with Zaytoon.

I discovered "Cal Gyros Mediterranean Cuisine" on Uber Eats. My wife and I were in North Oakland,…read morenear Berkeley, and wanted food delivered for a late-night dinner. Cal Gyros was featured near the top of the app, under the section "Healthy options to explore," based on our location and what was open at the time (a Thursday at 10:09pm). We were hungry and the menu and pictures of the food looked good enough to me. I ordered the following for us (descriptions from menu): * Lamb and Beef Gyros Sandwich ($14.95) - slow-cooked, thin-sliced, marinated lamb and beef gyros * Chicken Gyros Sandwich ($14.95) - slow-cooked, thin-sliced, marinated chicken * Cacik Appetizer ($8.95) - homemade yogurt with diced cucumbers, oregano, fresh dill and a hint of garlic After the cost of food ($38.85), I paid a $6.97 service fee, $3.99 tax, $2.00 for California driver benefits, and a $7.62 tip. The $0.99 delivery fee was waived because of a promotion. The total cost was $59.43. Roughly a third of that was due to Uber Eats. There were multiple delays. It took about an hour for the food to be delivered. To get to us from Cal Gyros was an 11-minute drive under usual traffic. I think the delay was with the restaurant and not caused by the driver because I saw the driver had to wait at the restaurant for an extended period of time. I know the driver has nothing to do with Cal Gyros, the business, but I just want to mention here that he (Axel) was super nice when handing off the order to me outside. As for the food itself, it was disappointing. The sandwiches (wraps) were filling, but that was about it. The quality of the ingredients wasn't great, especially the pita. The pita for the wraps was thin, hard, and bland. At least they were grilled. The cacik also came with pita. There were five, maybe six, Kronos-brand pita triangles in a Kronos bag. I think that pita may have been grilled too; it was hard for me to tell. The lamb, beef, and chicken gyros were flavorful enough, but they were far from the best gyros I've had from many similar hole-in-the-wall joints over the years. The Chicken Gyros Sandwich was very watery and messy to eat. The Lamb and Beef Gyros Sandwich was definitely the better of the two. I don't remember the other ingredients inside the wraps except for lettuce and perhaps onion and tomato. The cacik was fine. Cacik is the Turkish version of Greek tzatziki. Cal Gyro's cacik was cold, creamy, and refreshing. It was noticeably stronger tasting and more sour than tzatziki. Cal Gyros is located at Durant Center, colloquially referred to as the "Asian Ghetto," just south of UC Berkeley's main campus and surrounded by many of the school's buildings. It's one of several small restaurants, most of which are Asian, located in a U-shaped building with communal outdoor picnic-table seating in the middle. Some of the restaurants have their own dedicated seating inside, including Cal Gyros. The storefront sign says: "Best California Gyros." This place is open until 2am daily, so that's a plus.

My stomach started hurting after eating it so I couldn't even finish the food I ordered. This is probably the worst restaurant I've tried in Berkeley so far. For how long I waited, the food doesn't match the time it took to make the food. It definitely wasn't worth $15. The lady was gracious enough to offer free salad as compensation for the long wait, but the wilted salad looked unappealing. I was worried that the salad would make me even more sick so I didn't touch it. For a restaurant charging $15 for a meal, it should at least be safe to eat. I'm very disappointed and definitely won't be coming back.
