I was impressed by the good reviews of Rojbas and love Mediterranean food so decided to pick up lunch for 3 of us while I was visiting friends in Berkeley today. I ordered the chicken shish kebab plate, the veg moussaka, feta and olives, fries, and baklava. Everything was absolutely delicious and the portions very generous (another good meal for all of us). The baklava is homemade and the best I've ever had. The owner (I think) served me a glass of tea while I waited....such a nice gesture. I have been going to this place for some time and it is consistently good food. What I love most is the service (with a smile and such kindness). It makes the food taste even better. Today was a disastrous day for me. I fell on the sidewalk and hit my nose, upper lip, lips and chin - and scraped my knees and hands. But given how hungry I was, I grabbed the paper towels handed to me by a startled woman in a car, mopped myself as best I could and hobbled to the restaurant. They immediately gave me water, ice, and the only small bags they had - food service gloves. That young man may be in high school but he one smart lad! Anyway, I decided it was time for medicinal food. The Adnan Kabob plate and the rice pudding. My idea of comfort food. And it truly gave me the strength to go on! The minced lamb was tender and flavorful and the yogurt, cucumber and garlic sauce was cool. The lettuce cucumber and diced tomato salad was delicious and so fresh. The rice was fluffy and had turmeric in it. I have had the falafel, the moussaka, and the gyro. All wonderful. This Turkish Restaurant is the most authentic I've ever encountered in the US. I've Lived in Turkey for five years, I know the taste of real Turkish food. Distinct from broad categories like "Mediterranean" and "Middle Eastern" this food has the unique flavors and ingredients used Turkey. Summary: After visiting 3-4 different Mediterranean food places in the area, I think Rojbas not only has the best value but also the best taste! For around 9 dollars you can get a delicious beef/lambo gyro wrap that is sure to fill you up. Cost: Wraps are ~$8-9 dollars and sure to fill you up. The plates are ~$13-16 dollars are nicer if you want to sit down and eat. Compared to most other sandwich/gyro places around, they are cheaper. Value: Definitely 5 stars for value! I always go looking for the best deals in regard to taste/cost/filling. I typically eat a lot and the wraps at Rojbas fill me to a satisfied level. My fiance typically eats about 1/2 to 3/4 of a wrap and is full. Flavor: I am by no means a food expert, but from the layman's perspective, the food at Rojbas is very tasty. In addition to the expected lamb/beef/chicken, they also have a salmon wrap and "king-style falafel" which includes eggplant among other things. If you're a fan of Mediterranean food, I would definitely give it a try. Service: The restaurant appears to be family run and the cook/service are all extremely warm and friendly. They always give you a complimentary hot tea to sip on while you're waiting for your food. Conclusion: If you're not a fan of Mediterranean food, I don't know if Rojbas will change your mind. But, if you enjoy Mediterranean food even a little, I would definitely head over. My friend loves gyros and claims that this is the best place ever for it. Good food and great service and located conveniently near Trader Joe's. Food: I got the lamb kebab and it was pretty good. It was a bit on the tougher side to chew for me and it wasn't amazing but def on the better side of kebabs I have had. The platter came with salad, rice and some sauce and it was all very filling and yummy. The white sauce goes perfectly with everything and overall solid meal but on the pricier side. This location has some of the most EXCELLENT Mediterranean/Kurdish cuisine around! Got Adana Kebab plate and Shish Kebab plate with a friend the other day and it was totally worth it. The meat was very well cooked and the grilled vegetables were also very well prepared. I would also recommend hummus on the side and ayran (yogurt drink) as a beverage. The restaurant itself is a really nice clean little place and has an authentic, geniune feel to it, and the service from the staff was also very very impressive. I was greated several times and the wait for the food was also rather short. Having just moved to Berkeley, on the bus to my summer program at Cal seeing this joint on the corner of University and MLK caught my eye; where I am from (Petaluma) there is a lone Turkish restaurant I used to frequent quite often. Seeing Kurdish on the sign intrigued me - I was curious to see the variation from what was considered 'Turkish' cuisine, or dare I say 'Greek' cuisine (never went over too well at the restaurant back in P-town). Arrived around 11:30am and it was empty - ordered to-go and the food was ready very quickly. Was served a glass of black tea on the house while I was waiting. I ordered the appetizer kibbeh on referral from a friend in Stockholm who is familiar with this kind of cuisine. They're basically like meatballs but with ground lamb surrounded by a bread coating. It came with a sweet white sauce that went over well to start. Very hearty and good way to start off the meal. Score one for the Swede in terms of recommendations. For the entrée, I wanted to get something different than the typical lamb and beef doner kebab that I was used to back home. With that in mind, I found it hard to differentiate between Turkish and Kurdish (and Greek) food. I ordered the Adana kebab wrap. While the wrap was not as big as the ones I used to get back home, it was cheaper by a couple dollars. The meat inside reminded me of kofte kebab (it prob was) and it came with a little side of red hot sauce which was pretty decent. Not very spicy even though it is advertised as such. A bit of a mild kick. Lastly, I chose to order Kunefe, or Knafeh. This Middle Eastern desert uses the same bread as baklava, but shredded with a thin piece of cheese running through the middle and topped with pistachios. Once again, it was good, with the top being more firm and the bottom being chewy and sweet. Overall, the meal came out to just over $30, and it was pretty much just right for me in terms of portion size. Berkeley has a ton of ethnic food options, but I felt like this place does a pretty good job of standing out, as evidenced by the myriad of empty ex-ethnic food storefronts in the surrounding area. Ideal place to get a quick meal if you're feeling like kebab. Only negative to me was that I was hoping for a little bit more of a differentiation from traditional Turkish cuisine (Mediterranean foods are all pretty similar it seems so perhaps it's unavoidable). 4.5/5 but I'll round up since Yelp doesn't do half-stars. read more

I really liked this place! The guy at the cashier is really really nice and works hard! He's very friendly and wants to make sure you're enjoying your meal. I ordered the falafel plate which comes with 4 falafels, salad, hummus, tabbouleh, and 4 small pitas! It's delicious. It's huge though... You could probably share it.
