I have been to the west end location multiple times with great service and food. The west end atmosphere is also very charming! This time, we tried the Yaletown location for a change. While the food was good(except the long hair we found wrapped around the bread) the service was extremely slow and not attentive to the details of the tables needs. We had to flag the waitress many times for things like water refill, to order meals after apps, she didn't ask if we wanted more wine. I noticed the other tables around us also lacking attention of no water, dirty plates and or waiting to order for a long time. read more

I've been coming to this restaurant for 4-5 years now and this was the first time I got disappointed... I hate to say this about my favourite restaurant because this place used to be my go-to whenever I was in Yaletown. I used to have great conversations with the servers and they recommended great dishes for me to try and never got disappointed before, but they no longer have the same vibe. The servers seemed like they just wanted us to eat and leave. It was my third time ordering the seafood risotto aka Risotto alla pescatora. When I had it the first time, I thought it was THE BEST seafood risotto I've ever had and I told all my friends about it. Second time, it was fantastic! This time...it was very oily and salty and I couldn't finish it... I might come back here in the future to try other dishes but I don't think I will order the risotto again. read more

Craving Italian food this is the place to be! In the summer the patio seating is nice. Make a reservation as seating is gone very quick here for dinner. Staff are very friendly. read more

Great pastas and appetizers. The ingredients were fresh and the dishes were perfectly seasoned. Not too over done like other Italian places. Place is small and the ambiance is okay. The small tongs that accompany the dishes were a bit hard to use. read more

Both food & service are great. A little pity that we took an early dinner at 5ish or else the vibe shd be even better!

I absolutely love this place! Went here for dine out and it was an amazing experience. Although it was quite small, the place is very well lit and cozy! All the service there were very nice and accommodating. For appetizers we got the burrata caprese salad and the beef carpaccio. They came out very fast, and it was fantastic. There were also a side of bread that was served hot and crispy! The salad was very good, this being my favorite type of salad. However, the burrata was more on the creamy side than the ones that were more solid at other places. They gave plenty of burrata! This plate was surprisingly very filling. The vegetables were also super fresh! As for the beef carpaccio...it was hands down the best I've had! It's so delicious and just melts right in your mouth. Priced at $15, I think it's very reasonable for the quality of beef! This dish went very well with the side of bread. Next up is our main. The two spaghetti dishes took longer to make because the place was crowded! The ragu that my partner had was on the saltier side. There were plenty of meet in it. The texture was also a bit thicker than what I like. The ravioli was also good. The texture is a lot softer and smoother. However, i did not taste any lobster ): the crab taste overwhelmed everything else. The mains for me was only a 3.5/5. Last but not least, the dessert. Although they're simple, they are very good! I loved my panna cotta! The chocolate mousse was very creamy and rich as well. Overall, I love this place and will be coming back : read more

I really enjoyed my meal here. It is DEFINITELY busy, we tried making reservations and had to wait until 9:15 pm and even then had to wait another 10 minutes for our table. The inside was pretty warm/little stuffy, but otherwise I had a good experience. I got the burrata pasta, which was good but the burrata was not as melty/creamy as I would have liked. However, I was very impressed with the pasta itself; it was cooked perfectly al dente, and as an Italian I have high standards. All in all, it's a cute, authentic Italian restaurant in a great area of Yaletown. I would return if I am ever in the city again! read more

This was actually my second visit. Last year I came with my husband and toddler, and the food and service were AWESOME! So I came back, this time by myself, while in Vancouver on business. I snagged a table by myself right away, so that was great. Ordered burratta and prosciutto, which was really good once it came - I think I waited like 30 minutes for it. Finally my waiter asked me if I had eaten it already, and he seemed annoyed when I said he hadn't seen it. The raviolis came pretty promptly after that. Next, dessert! Hooray, panna cotta! My favorite! It came to the table and it was very pretty. Very pretty. Until about bite 3. Chewy. Maybe it is a hard piece of gelatin, or a dried out berry. Wait...no...no that's....yeah that's a piece of previously chewed chewing gum. Somehow I managed to not throw up before reporting it to my hostess. She was totally shocked and showed it to the other waiters, who tried to convince her it wasn't gum, but gelatin or something (no guys, it was gum...mmmkay? It was minty flavored. Seriously). They did bring me another panna cotta (yummy, even though I was pretty nauseous at this point). The hostess seemed really appalled by it, the waiters kept telling me how this has never happened before (like that makes it better?), and no one really seemed to know what to do. Including me. So the night ended with a comped panna cotta (not the whole meal? Ok...) and me having panic attacks about whether or not I need to get tested for viruses when I get home. So that's awesome. I'm still kind of in shock, I've only been home for about 30 minutes. I'm going to go wash my mouth out with bleach now. read more

Amazing experience here during a Christmas work party. I got to sample some of the other's meals as well. For my appetizer, I got the burrata caprese which was a salad with roma tomatoes and burrata mozzarella. Due to a little mix up, I received it late but I enjoyed it. I convinced my partner to try the tomatoes (who was adverse to tomatoes that are too squishy), and he had a positive reaction. The cheese was huge and generous, I needed a bit of help clearing my dish because it was quite filling. I sampled my partner's beef tenderlion carpaccio and I found it to be better than I expected. Thin and exquisitely soft, I wished I could have chosen this appetizer as well. For the main course, I got lobster and crab ravioli. This dish was on the heavy side in that you could eat this as a stand-alone dish and be moderately full. I've never had the two proteins together in way this place does it. Very rich in flavour, but I was reached my limit three-quarters of the way in. I decided to share the rest. For the dessert, I got the panna cotta which honestly was the best (compared to tiramisu and chocolate mousse) in my table. The texture of it was similar to strained yogurt. I found it fascinating how the fruit topping made it all work together. It wasn't tangy nor overly sweetened, a great way to end my meal. Overall, we found the beef tenderlion and the panna cotta as highlights of the night. Now that I know what I want, I'm looking forward to my next visit here! read more

It was a spectacular night! We sat inside, which is a little warmer so dress accordingly, but it afforded us the opportunity to watch the chef and others as our food was prepared! We got to chat with the chef, Cristina and she really made us feel like we'd come into her home to enjoy a meal with family. Kyoko greeted us at the door and was lovely throughout the evening. Our server (I sadly didn't get her name) was very attentive. THE FOOD! You better buckle up for that ride to paradise! We started with the Burrata Caprese and the Insalata di Celeste. Wow! Both were delicious and a fresh way to start our meal. Next we had PAPPARDELLE "ROSCHE ROSCHE" and SPAGHETTI ALLA CARBONARA (they need all caps, they were that good!). And finally we finished with lavender crème brûlée and chocolate mousse, both exactly what we imagined. At one point we were admiring the Osso Bucco and the chef said we must try the sauce, and brought us a cup with bread! Insanely good! This night was one of those you never forget, partly bc the food was simply outstanding but also bc the people there made us feel like family. read more

I was so excited to try this restaurant out, however, upon walking in on Wednesday night the manager told us that he doesn't have enough STAFF (not tables, but staff) to accommodate us. The restaurant was only at maybe 50% capacity, looking around I could could at least 10-15 tables that were empty but due to the lack to waiters they refused to seat us or even give us the option of waiting. I was baffled and so given no other option we left. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time during Dineout and I want to come back for sure! The restaurant is very small however so be sure to make a reservation or dress warm because there is more space out in the patio. Not recommended for big parties, I'd say 4 maximum. I had the beef carpaccio, lobster ravioli and tiramisu during the three-course promotion. Great value for the food especially the beef carpaccio. Lobster ravioli was my favourite as it was so flavourful. My friend's panna cotta was quite melted/deconstructed as the plate was still warm, so that would be the only thing about the meal; still a great experience overall, especially being able to watch the cooks prepare your food just inches away in an open kitchen concept. Also loved that pappardelle was an option on the menu (photo for reference but I did not try it). read more

Small intimate Italian restaurant in Yaletown. Food is flavorful and the service is friendly. There is no real signage out front so it's a little hard to find but it's well worth the search. We were visiting Vancouver and just happened to to stumble on this little jewel. We enjoyed it so much we went back after a couple of days, did not want to leave Vancouver without another taste. It's been a very long time since I've reviewed anything but I felt like I had to voice my disappointment despite being a place that has the hallmarks of a restaurant that I truly wanted to love. After an hour of searching for a restaurant in the area as my last final meal on this Vancouver trip, I chose Robba for it's warm, homemade type atmosphere. Specifically, I chose to eat at this restaurant because of the reviews and pictures of this beautiful but simple bruschetta dish. It's a dish I really love. They even describe the dish as classic and simple on their menu! As soon as you walk in, you see the "nonna" which is really awesome. It gives you that kind of real homemade feel that you want in a restaurant. Here's the disappointment. I was expecting a very light and refreshing classic bruschetta dish as indicated by the pictures and the menu description. What I received were two baguettes heavily drowned in olive oil with sliced tomatoes and pesto lathered on top. I have never seen a bruschetta served in that manner. The "classic" bruschetta is almost always DICED up tomatoes with chopped up garlic, a splash of vinegar for acidity and brightness and perhaps some basil for a finishing touch on a cripsy chip-esque sliced baguette. Check Giada, Bastianich, or even some of their neighbouring restaurants that serve bruschetta (not to mention their own rendition that actually created the dish properly in the past). They all pay homage to the classic rendition of the recipe but mine seemed to be a butchery of sorts. Just look at the difference between my pictures of the bruschetta compared to others. It's very different. Mine didn't even have any sort of acidity at all. I asked the waitress if maybe they forgot the garlic but apparently they had changed how they prepare it despite the menu saying other wise. To be 100% fair, the service was absolutely outstanding and handled my disappointment with class and professionalism. The waitress I talked to was welcoming and full of smiles even though I commented on the mistake and even said they would change the menu to properly reflect how they now no longer include garlic in their bruschetta. I will say, I did hear the "nonna" complain about my complaint saying "they complained about that?" I actually told the waitress on numerous occasions that it's not a big deal but her comment did annoy me and probably pushed me to put the effort into writing such a disappointed review. In any case, this is without doubt an extremely lazy representation of a classic dish and they simply failed to deliver. Basically slice some tomatoes, drizzle olive oil, and put some pesto on top is something I could teach me 8 year old cousin to do. How is that a restaurant worthy dish? Moving on to the main course, I got the pappardalle dish which had bits of short ribs, chicken, and sausage. The pasta was perfectly al dente and very flavorful. As I was eating this, I just had this feeling that this was something that was made thousands of times before and had that home made appeal I was looking for. I would definitely recommend it! I decided against the free Yelp dessert check in as I was too full, don't have a sweet tooth, and needed to get back to the airport but you should take advantage of it if you decide to visit. read more

Great service and delicious food! Deffinetly get the warmed olives as a starter. They are tossed in olive oil and is lemony and garlicky.

The best meal & service we had in Vancouver. Wish we had found this place the first night we were in town so we could go back for a second meal! We walked over on a Sunday night around 8 pm without a reservation. They were quite busy but the hostess offered to have a table ready for us in 30 minutes if we'd like to grab a drink nearby. We came back & she had a table outside ready for us. Our table on the patio was awesome -- good music, lighting, comfortable temperature thanks to the cover. We shared the Burrata Caprese for our appetizer, which was great. For dinner, my husband had the Spaghetti alla Carbonara & I had the Pesto & Burrata Spaghetti. Both meals were delicious; the pasta was cooked perfectly, ingredients weren't overpowering, & the portions were perfect. Our server, Heather, was the best we had during our stay in Vancouver. She knew the menu well & had great recommendations. Checked on us regularly, but didn't hover. We had a lovely conversation with her at the end of dinner, despite the fact that the kitchen had closed. At this point, most servers would've (gently) nudged us out the door, but Heather made us feel welcomed. If we're ever back in Vancouver, we'll make sure to plan on at least two meals at Robba da Matti; yes, it's that good :) read more

We had a very disappointing meal at this restaurant last night. The waiter suggested that the 2 vegetarians in our party have a pasta primavera dish, which they agreed to readily. They were served a very small portion of Pasta compared to the other two in our party. There were in fact no vegetables in the dish and the sauce was very bland and tasteless. When one member of our party went to speak to the manager after he said that we made it very difficult for them because we were vegetarian. He offered no apology or compensation. This was a very special night out and it was very disappointing. read more

always wanted to try this place and through overhearing someone else's conversation - this restaurant was under a diff name before. thought that was the case; used to be called antipasto. anywho, went with my 2 cowrkers tonight to this restaurant and tried their taste of yaletown menu. appy, entree and dessert each plus i ordered a glass of pinot grigio that was sooooo delish. appy was beef carpaccio - presentation was amazing and we got bread to go along with. all of us actually had the same appy lol. beef was tender and i really liked the grainy dijon aioli on it. entree - i ordered the risotto gameri e zucchine aka prawn risotto with zucchini. the others (lol) both had the pappardelle rosche. i snuck a bit of the pappardelle to try - the pasta was al dente and the sauce was so hearty. i was not disappointed with my risotto as there was plenty of prawns and zucchini in the dish. the only con that i found for both entree was that they were both on the salty side. dessert - one cowrker and i had the tiramisu and the other had the chocolate mousse. i apologize for not having a picture of the chocolate mousse. that was mousse was very dense - not something i expect for a mousse - but it was very tasty. the tiramisu was great - there was a thick layer of mascarpone, however, both my cowrker and i found that the ladyfingers were over soaked. there was small puddle of liquid at the bottom of the dish when you scooped into it. then the bill came into this cute little box with dark chocolates in it! the experience was great overall aside from the minor things above. to note tho, the restaurant is on the small side so if you are sitting in the inside, it is very cosy. there is a great open kitchen so you can watch the staff prepare your dishes. read more

Comfort food Amazing friendly staff! Make reservations in advance. Worth the wait!!!

I remember the first time I was here was at least 3 years ago and I got a Social Shopper or was it Groupon deal. I have to say i thought this place was terrible. I saw them soak the pasta in the sauce and cook it all together making the food very very salty. Went there recently and everything changed. I am guessing management must have changed or they got a new chef. The food is not bad. They no longer cook it the way they used to. Its good that they are generous on cheese. Good selection. Only issue is that the place is super small. So you have to make a reservation or else....... you will be waiting forever. Definitely will comeback read more

Robba da Matti is a very small place that feels very homey. They have a small open kitchen and you can watch them cook and wash while you wait for your food. It gave me the feeling of being in an Italian grandmother's home. The night we visited was chilly and wet. Unfortunately the only seat left was the one right in front of the door. Our hostess was nice enough to switch us to another table when the other diners left. We were warned that the pasta will be al dente and that the seafood options may be a bit spicy. I was ok with both. I want to have my Italian meal the Italian way. (note: 'cause I prefer my pasta a little over al dente) I couldn't resist and ordered the PROSCIUTTO & BURRATA (5/5 - $19) 'cause I haven't had burrata since moving here and as listed on the menu it's flown in from Puglia. Yes! It was so delicious. I couldn't stop eating. The prosciutto was really good too. We got some complimentary bread on the side but I found the cut of the bread too thick to enjoy with the prosciutto and burrata. I enjoyed them on its own. Pastas: SPAGHETTI ALLO SCOGLIO (4/5 - $27): He wasn't joking when he said the pasta is al denta. It was. I didn't mind having it this way once in a while. I love the sauce. It was not too tomato-y and had a bit of a chili (not spicy) taste to it. All the seafood that was listed on the menu were present. I do wish the shrimp were a bit bigger 'cause there were not bite to them and didn't add any flavour or texture to the dish. LOBSTER & CRAB RAVIOLI (4/5 - $26): I found this dish to be very similar to the one above except for the main pasta component. The ravioli is less 'al dente' compared to the above since it's filled with lobster and crab. This dish also comes with some shrimp. Will come back to try the rest of the pasta dishes. Perhaps no seafood this time. read more

Great Italian food and good service. The place is small with ample outside seating space. They have a good variety of pastas, with freshly made sauces. I came here on a Saturday night. They do reservations which is great because the place isn't big. I love the location, right in the heart of Yaletown neighborhood. It is a great lively neighborhood to get a drink before or after dinner. For appetizers we got the prosciutto and burrata which was so delicious. The mozzarella was so soft and easy to spread on the bread. It was delicious! Also the prosciutto tasted so good, really high quality meat. For entrees, we got the lobster and crab raviolli and the spaghetti allo scoglio. We enjoyed both dishes but the spaghetti dish was the winner. It had tons of seafood such as scallops, prawns, calamari, mussels, etc. I love the fresh pasta in both of the dishes. Overall, atmosphere was great. The servers were really friendly. read more

I love this little joint! Formerly called L'Antipasto, the owners and chefs are still the same. They changed the name as the former caused confusion on whether there was pasta or not (haha). What I love about this place: The pasta always comes out perfectly al dente. The flavours are wonderful! Even their salads are a hit with me (I love their arugula one). I love the casual bistro ambience and do try and get a patio seat if you can (winter or summer). The lights give it an intimate setting. My favourite pasta is the top one on their list, a seafood tomato sauce spaghetti. Their four cheese gnocchi is also bomb and their spicy sausage pappardelle is two thumbs up. read more

Sad to say it but despite all of the positive reviews, my friend and I had a horrible experience. Our waiter was kind and had excellent recommendations, but sadly it took over two and a half hours to have dinner here. We arrived before every customer in the restaurant and we received our meals after every table there. We ordered drinks and apps right when we arrived, but sadly our waiter didn't come back to our table to take our order for over an hour after that. He was clearly taking care of every table in the restaurant but did not come back to us for so long that we contemplated leaving. We found this place on Yelp (thanks Yelp) and we were very happy that we did. We ended up going 2 nights in a row. Sometimes when you find something good and you are tired of being a tourist all day long, you just want something easy, close and good. The place is super small so one night we ate inside and we could watch the food being cooked which I throughly enjoy and the next night we asked for a seat outside, which is a great seating area. The food the first night was amazing and we were talking to the chef and she was very kind and social. We told her we were coming back again the next night and she said she wasn't going to be working but the owner would be there and her food was just as great. Well we felt it wasn't as great, the other chefs was better - but still it was good, just not great. When checking in on Yelp, yes you get a free dessert so totally do that. Well worth it and we would definitely go back if we were in Van Couver again and we hope to be back. The restaurant is in a very quiet area and very walkable from hotels. We had to make reservations both nights for this restaurant and most likely unless you made a reservation you are NOT getting in. There are alot of restaurants right on the same row so if you can't get in, try another place but it won't be the same..... read more

Went to Robba da Matti last night for Dine Out and wanted to write a review because it was honestly one of the best restaurant experiences we've had in Vancouver. First, we someone booked the West End location instead of the one we intended and with Friday night traffic ended up arriving about 20 minutes late. Not only did the restaurant hold our table for 4, but they were very kind and understanding. It was our first time at the restaurant and we all really appreciated the waiter who went over all the options with us and made a number of recommendations. We ended up going with the Date Night special instead of the Dine Out because it included more options and a bottle of wine. Everything we had was delicious. I cook a lot of Italian, so am often critical of restaurant pasta, but the spaghetti amalfi was definitely the best pasta I've ever had. We will be back - probably very soon! read more

3/5 dinner. Nice cute place. had blankets and heater outside so no worries if it's cold out. Ordered the Prosciutto and burrata. To my dismay, the cheese portion was small. It was the smallest amount of burrata I've had in the places I've had around the world. Yale town is expensive or Vancouver. Ordered the lobster and crab ravioli, and pappardelle Rosche Rosche. They were definitely al dente and tasty but that's as far as it gets. It was quite difficult to work on just 1 dish. I got tired and sick of the taste and textures of either real quick and had to work between the 2 pasta. Do not get me wrong it's good pasta but they were nothing exceptionally mind-blowing. The side served olives did help to cut the heavy flavours. I'd love to come in again and try the others. Got an extra bread throughout the night and was charged for it. Was surprised by that. Again it's a first for me in Vancouver or in the world. For dessert, I got the tiramisu and honestly I'm not a fan of cakes. But the one I got was moisty and it was the best tiramisu I've had, wish it had a touch more rum though. Service was good. I wasn't suggested the date night special. Price was pretty high for what it was. I've had better for lower or at the same price point. read more

Our latest trip to Van City was capped off with a Sunday dinner at Robba da Matti. A tight little space with a covered patio right on Mainland in the heart of Yaletown. Really nothing special ambiance wise other than its really cramped. We got a two top so close to the front door that it hit the back of my chair no less than 15 times over the course of the evening. "You shoulda made a reservation" you may be thinking...we did. That was the best they could plan out for us I guess Great little wine list with lots of awesome Italian and non Italian options. The menu is mostly typical Italian appy's and salads, the mains are almost all pasta but ok when in Rome so to speak. We started out with a kind of riff on a Caprese salad that was ok, way too much oil and the buratta cheese was completely flavourless. The tomato's however were as fresh and tasty you would find anywhere. Pretty run of the mill for a 18 dollars Having always been a guy to look at menu's online beforehand I couldn't wait to try their play on Milanese risotto with osso bucco. Massively disappointing unfortunately. I love both these Italian dishes separately but chef failed to meld them in any meaningful way. The risotto was again ok, heavy handed on the cheese for me and the osso bucco was dry and stringy. Big fail, I actually sent it back which I almost never do. The GF had a lobster and crab ravioli. The filling to me was so mushy and lacked anything resembling the texture of either lobster or crab. Tasted like any crab filling you could buy at the supermarket to me. We wrapped it up with delightful little tiramisu. Delicious and rich The service was pretty slow but they were very busy. Seemed like the servers were a bit stressed out. They comped my meal of course, and our guy was very apologetic and cordial. A nice young guy for sure, seemed to me he was in a little over his head this evening. All in all pretty mediocre experience this time out. Was so devastated about the risotto that I'm not sure I would give this place another look. Especially with the gargantuan food scene in YVR.
