We came for happy hour and the restaurant was empty. By the time we left, it was getting full. Moka martini - not my favourite Moka martini but it did the job. A bit too sweet for me and the alcohol was not smooth at all Rigatoni cacio e Pepe ($14) - the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. Loved that bite. The cacio e Pepe was a bit too wet than the standard but I liked the savouriness of it Sams favourite pizza ($14) - pepperoni was perfectly curled. Crust wasn't burnt at all but it had that good char flavour that I always like in my pizzas. Great chew to the pizza. A bit hard to cut. Good amount of toppings. Not too salty at all. Trendy Italian "bistro" restaurant with attentive service, perfect for date night. While their food menu is relatively smaller (pizza and pasta, no secondi), they have an extensive drinks and cocktails menu. For dinner, I had Cavatelli Baby Meatballs (Pork sausage baby meatballs) with Pecorino, English green peas, and pangrattato. We also ordered the Gnocchi Caprese Ricotta which is gnocchi with pomodoro sauce, stracciatella, and basil. The restaurant decor reminds me of a smaller European bistro. The big mirror above the bar is a nice touch that allows you to see the beautiful red chairs in the restaurant, as well as people walking by outside. read more

Enjoyed a delicious meal here that included an assortment of appetizers, pizzas and a delicious panna cotta for dessert! We loved the pizzas (especially Luca's Favourite - with a beautiful ball of burrata topping a thin crusted pizza), and the extremely tender meatballs. My tasting expert of a friend tasted the saffron used in the arancini immediately and liked the crispy exterior. Excellent service that was both courteous and friendly. We really enjoyed our dinner at Locanda dell'Orso. The restaurant has a bistro style vibe that feels familiar and cozy. The service was kind and perfectly paced. We really enjoyed the pesto gnocchi with burrata and the pizza. Everything was super tasty and fresh. To end the meal, we had a pistacchio tiramisu and, for someone who doesn't love sweets or desserts, I can say it was so good that I'd have it again. read more

Between all of us we tried everything on the dineout menu except for the veal appetizer. Here's the overall rating on everything: - Burrata: a great size portion with delicious beets and radicchio surrounding it but I felt like the burrata could be fresher - gnocchi: this was the best dish for sure! Super pillow-y soft and great flavour - lasagna: this was good but not great, slightly too overcooked - risotto: I wouldn't recommend this - the risotto was undercooked and the sauce was too soup-y - panna cotta: this was delicious!! Perfect texture and flavour - olive oil cake: this was also really good but keep in mind that the lemon flavour packs quite a punch The service was attentive and nice as well. I dined with friends at Locanda dell'Orso restaurant, and we had a marvelous dinner! The food and wine were all excellent, particularly the pizzas. I was in great company and we all really enjoyed our dinner. Our waiter provided excellent service. At times it was a bit chilly with both front doors standing open, but fortunately I had a jacket with me. I would definitely eat here again next time I visit Vancouver. read more

Walked in on a Saturday night and it was quite empty. I know the restaurant is relatively new though. Service was friendly and welcoming. Food was pretty good - the focaccia was fluffy on the inside and the fresh butter with saffron and lemon made the bread and butter almost like a dessert. We also tried the burrata - one of the freshest burrata I've had in Vancouver. For mains we tried the agnolotti in a pumpkin sauce. This was definitely a fave! It wasn't too heavy and the sweet pumpkin sauce with dollops of cheese inside and al dente pasta worked so well together. I would come back for this dish. The cacio e pepe was underwhelming - we prefer it creamier. The sauce on this one was watery and tart. The ambiance could also be improved - I think it needed music as it was very quiet, and restaurant smelt kind of musty. We were also seated right next to the only other couple in the restaurant at the time, and it was between two booth chairs (on the crack) which was slightly uncomfortable. read more

Located in the historic Victorian Hotel and replacing Autostrada Downtown, I had high hopes for this new Italian restaurant, but it fell short. While our server was warm and welcoming, the wait in between courses was long. If you do decide to dine here, order a la carte and NOT the chef's selection. The chef's menu was $168 ($84/person) for five courses, which was very pricey for the portion size and selection and I feel ripped off. This included: 1) burrata: a huge chunk of burrata paired with 4 pieces of bread. I liked the pesto, it was very garlicky and fresh and the edible flowers were pretty, but the burrata/bread ratio was off and it was too heavy for a starter 2) salad with raisins and hazelnuts: I kept spitting out pieces of rocksalt...the salad was waaay too salty 3) agnolotti: this was the only dish I enjoyed. They make their pasta in house and the jus was very flavourful and paired well with the chicken & beef stuffing 4) halibut:I love BC halibut, but this was overcooked and dry. It came with a side of roasted veggies on pesto, and I enjoyed the veggies more than the fish 5) tiramisu: traditional tiramisu...this was tasty but nothing special This was such a disappointing date night, especially since we were celebrating a birthday. Savio Volpe's chef's menu is incredible and for the same price, I suggest going there instead. read more

Everything we tried was so flavourful - the highlight of our meal was definitely the burrata and the pizza, I have never had pizza like this before. I came for dinner on a Friday night. Made online reservation. Lots of availability. service was great. Restaurant was fine. A bit dark but not very quiet. We got the $88 tasting menu. Comparing their regular menu prices, i think this is a good deal, but come hungry. Its a generous menu. They also serve special items not on the regular menu. We had a few dietary restrictions which they accomodated wonderfully. Started with house focaccia served with a compound butter and a big bowl of olives. squash and pastry dish - cant remember the name, but it was ok. 3.5/5 Then a pan seared scallop dish with mushrooms and a puree - good. One scallop was slightly overcooked. 4/5 pasta 1 - stuffed pasta (squash filling) - texturally great, but it was both sweet and savoury which I found very bizarre and somewhat offputting. 3.5/5 pasta 2 - black tagliatelle with a venison ragu - excellent. 5/5. entree - beef cheeks with roasted leek and pureed parsnip - also excellent, 5/5. pistachio tiramisu - had a hit of saltiness which was very pleasant - 5/5. The pasta work was excellent - cant complain about that. For this place to earn 5/5 in my standards, they just need more consistency in their execution of each dish Parking is street metered only - not hard to find though. Just be careful, this place is close to the DTES and there will be drug addicts and homeless out and about, so keep your doors locked and valuables out of sight. And try to park further west of the restaurant and dont go further east of it. i would come back. Given what others have mentioned about their regular menu items, i would probably do the set menu again. I came out of it totally stuffed and satisfied. read more

Came before the eras tour and the drinks menu was TS themed which was super cute, they also played acoustic TS which was super cute. We had some amazing focaccia with saffron butter to start. For dinner we had the gnocchi which our waiter said was mad in house and tasted homemade! So delicious I would come back for that again any time. I haven't left a restaurant hungry in a while. I didn't realize that $39 would only get me 12 small ravioli. I wasn't anywhere near full. The flavours and ingredients weren't so amazing that the price felt justified. Service was friendly and the interior seems nice. Would not recommend - there are so many better Italian restaurants in Vancouver that a mediocre one with tiny portions would stand out. No parking. read more

To start, the service was really good BUT, probably the worst Italian food I've had in Vancouver in over 30 years. Ordered the Focaccia bread, sweet almost soggy, definitely not Focaccia! More like a Korean sweet bread. Wife shared a "Luca's Favourite" pizza. Warm crust, stone cold tomatoes and cold Burrata cheese on top. Awful. Friend ordered the Rigatoni with truffle. Very little flavour. I ordered the Tagliatelle al Ragu. Almost inedible. Meat was tough and stringy, sauce was slop. Noodles over cooked and mushy. As a cook, there is no way I would have let these dishes leave my kitchen, let alone charge for them. Avoid this place. Burger King serves better Italian food. read more

Really enjoyed our meal here! We had the tasting menu for $88. It is a really good deal. It included 10 or so different dishes so we did not leave hungry. Dined here with friends and my two year old. Drinks and wine were excellent, as well as our appetizers and salad. I had the Mezzeluna Ravioli that was in a sage butter sauce and it was amazing. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Very accommodating to our toddler, even brought her coloring page and offered to put her order in first. Our group of 5 was seated promptly, and the owner was the perfect amount of friendly and attentive. The pasta was fresh and flavorful, made in house with care. When told it was my birthday, the owner brought me a full-size dessert with a candle. My friends ordered the other desserts on the menu, and all were distinctive and delicious. Every dish, from the meal's start to finish, was a treat; it's also rare for restaurant food to come with such a personal touch. I'd absolutely go back. People who want mass-produced pasta for a fraction of the price can go to The Old Spaghetti Factory. The rest of us should eat here. :) read more
