La Forchetta is a lovely family-run joint in north Burnaby using quality ingredients and providing excellent and personable service. My family and I went for lunch on a Saturday, and I was surprised to see that we were the only table when we walked in. We were greeted warmly, and upon recommendation, we ordered the freshly squeezed orange juice. It was absolutely delicious, like sunshine in a cup. Bolstered, we proceeded to order the rest of our meal. For appies, we had meatballs, caprese salad, and garlic bread. The meatballs were dense yet tender, and the tomato sauce they were sitting in was perfectly balanced. The caprese was solid, nothing mind-blowing but it was fresh and tasty! For mains, we had the prawn risotto and scallop pasta. We spent the whole meal debating which one we liked more, because they were both top notch. The prawns in the risotto were not a touch over or underdone, and the pasta was savory and fragrant. I like the savoriness the almonds gave it. Even though we were stuffed, we couldn't resist ordering dessert. The passion fruit panna cotta and the lemon sorbet were the perfect way the cap off the meal. My grandma, notoriously shy with speaking English, even called the server over to tell her how much she liked it. The bill was hefty- $180 including tax and tip for the 3 of us. But I walked away feeling satisfied that my grandma had the best meal she's had in years, and that to me is priceless. read more

We came here to try their housemade pastas. The Scallop Linguini was delicious, with a generous serving of scallops. Sauce was very unique, creamy with a hint of pesto. The Crab Linguini had bits of crab meat (minced?) mixed into the rosé sauce. To be honest, there didn't seem to be much crab in this dish. The pastas are all made in-house & cooked al dente. They're definitely of a higher quality than most other pasta places, which somewhat justifies their $30+ price point for the pasta dishes. Went with a large group to try out La Forchetta. They make their own pasta and are a few doors down from Sushi Giwa. We dropped in on a Thursday (12:45pm reservations). Busy with several other large parties. Entrees aren't cheap; pastas are $25.50 to $28.00, pizzas $18.00 to 25.00. No lunch specials offered. - Bread ($4.00/basket) - they'll ask if you want bread but don't mention the price. Comes with an olive oil and balsamic dip. - Calamari ($22.00) - not worth the price tag. - Bruschette miste ($15.00) - pickled eggplant, mixed olives and mortadella. The mortadella was the best piece but such a tiny portion. - 2x Pallotte cacio e uovo ($14.00) - fried cheese and egg ball. Was told it was salty. - Paccheri pistacchio ($28.00) - pasta was al dente and the sauce well balanced. The service is good but the italian food is average at best for the price charged. There are many other venues that have lower or equal to prices that serves better italian food. The other thing was how does a restaurant run out of menu item before the start of the weekend the busiest time of the week for most restaurants. Cute modern but cosy restaurant. Friendly people. Been wanting to go for a long time but due to Covid-19 we had to postpone our dinner. Finally managed to try it out and we had a lovely time. So excited for the fresh pasta! We shared the Prosciutto pizza as the starter, then the calamari skewers, spaghetti vongole Maltagliati La Forchetta. My least favorite was the calamari skewers, the calamari was not as charred as it was described, it was only slightly grilled. There were a few prawns and tomatoes on a bed of arugula( $20), not worth the price The pasta tasted Al dente but could use a bit more sauce. The dish is smaller, so be prepared to share more items, or save room for dessert! The pizza was my favorite, it was crispy but not oily, and not too doughy. Amazing Italian food!! The pasta is incredible as it is traditional, and cooked to perfection. Stylish new Italian restaurant on Hastings in Burnaby. We stopped by for dinner on a foggy night. Modern yet cozy dining environment. Staff was very friendly, and we were seated right away. Dinner started off with the polpette (meatballs) in rosé sauce, which had good flavour and a soft texture. IMO the meatballs at Cotto Enoteca down the street are still the ones to beat in this area in terms of flavour, but they were more refined here. The drinks ... wow! Their espresso martini cocktail was absolutely fabulous. The ratio of espresso to alcohol was perfect. I could easily down this tasty concoction all night but would probably regret it the next morning. I'm going to try making this one at home, sugar rim and all, since we just purchased an espresso machine. The Caribbean cocktail was fruity and refreshing with lots of lychee flavour. Next we shared three pastas: the pappardelle for our red sauce choice + carbonara and vongole for white. The vongole was a bit of a disappointment and our least favorite of the three. Butter and oil were the prominent flavours here but little else came through (lacking chili, garlic, salt, etc.). It also wasn't even remotely spicy as stated in the menu. Not sure if it was just an off day when we ordered it, but depth of flavour was missing overall. Oh how I love a good carbonara ... rich and hearty with full flavour, it's one of my go-to pasta dishes. Here, the carbonara was less creamy and a bit on the lighter side, but some people prefer it that way. I didn't get the same satisfaction after consuming it compared to some other Italian places, but it was still good. The pappardelle was our favorite of the pasta that night. The sauce had good flavour and complemented the noodles well without being overwhelming. Though some of the sauces were muted, their pasta is made in-house daily. You can see this quality from each dish. All of it was cooked al dente. We ended the meal with a tiramisu and espresso. There was a fair amount of wait time for each round of food to arrive, but the kitchen might still be getting their bearings. Given they have only been open for three days, I'm sure some of the shortcomings mentioned here will be improved. Prices are quite reasonable for fine Italian food. I will be back after their kitchen matures a bit to try their ribeye, spicy salame pizza, and other pasta! read more

My table ordered the Prosciutto e Rucola pizza + Calamari Skewers + Spaghetti Vongole + Maltagliati La Forchetta to share. The Maltagliati La Forchetta had a nice creamy sauce and I liked how they topped it off with pistachios. The pizza here is pretty decent as well and a good size. But I wouldn't recommend the Spaghetti Vongole as I had better else where - the spaghetti was on the grainy side for some reason and the sauce lacked the wine flavouring. Friendly staff but like authentic Italian they can be fashionably forgetful and slow paced. Just the right sized menu nothing crazy but not too small. Unfortunately they ran out of dough that night so we didn't get to try their pizza. Their pasta was tasty and my friends really enjoyed it. I liked the flavour but as I got through half way on mine, it got a bit heavy for me. Their meatballs are a MUST order. Wine is good and dessert was yummy too. Street parking around but we had to park a couple blocks away as it tends to be busy. There's a parking lot behind the restaurant but usually full. I do recommend making a reservation especially for table more than 2 people. I don't mind coming back if a friend wants to come back but it's also not a place I'd go out of my way and travel all the way for. read more

Pleasantly surprised by my culinary experience here - I thought it would be another average joe Italian restaurant, but turned out to be quite wonderful in terms of both the service and the food! I would recommend making a reservation for weekend evenings as it was quite busy and bustling when I went on a Friday night. Came here a second time for my birthday dinner and didn't receive the best service. I ordered the pistachio pasta again because I liked it the last time I came. Our server came back to confirm my order twice that I ordered the pistachio pasta, but when the pastas came, my order was still wrong. Our server tried to persuade me to take the incorrect pasta because it would take time for the kitchen to remake it, but I told him I am fine with waiting. He offered a complimentary dessert for my birthday and for his mistake, but at the end of the meal he charged us for the dessert. When we asked him why the dessert was charged, he said it is a gift for my birthday but I don't really understand how it is a gift if it wasn't complimentary like he originally said. We didn't order or choose a dessert so it really felt like he pushed us into paying for this dessert that we didn't order. Kinda ruined my birthday meal and we left feeling like the restaurant wasn't very transparent or honest. It's not about the $10 cost of the dessert, more like we felt lied to. read more

If you plan on coming here, make sure to read your bill carefully and don't accept any "complimentary" items unless you want to pay for it. We came here for our friend's birthday. The server surprised us with a "complimentary" Panna Cotta dessert but then charged us for it. He tried to avoid letting me see the bill, and unfortunately I did not see the charge until after I had already paid. When we asked about it, the server simply shrugs and says "it's your friends birthday". If we wanted to pay for a dessert, we would have picked one we actually wanted. Not only did we get scammed into paying for a dessert we didn't ask for, but the server also messed up our friend's order and gave the wrong pasta. On Tuesday April 12th, we have had a wonderful dinner at La Forchetta. We were pleasantly surprised to see this true gem in North Burnaby. The restaurant has a pleasant vibe the moment you go inside. It is very clean, modern and welcoming. There is a beautiful patio in the back for the outdoor seating. We absolute loved everything: ambiance, food, service, ALL! The food choices are amazing. The only "problem" was to select what to order first! Carmine was extremely pleasant, very attentive and kind. We shared some great conversations with him. He is a prime example of the excellent customer service! A+ Carmine. Chef Manrico came to great us personally and wanted to make sure that we are satisfied with our delicious food. La Forchetta is as close to the joy and comforts of a family, Sunday supper you can achieve. Add a 50th birthday celebration to the mix and magic happens. The waiter kept a keen eye on our beverage glasses and was also well-versed with the menu. The menu itself is flawless, and uncomplicated with a delightful emphasis on old world, old school fare. This doesn't mean it's not difficult to decide between the many beautiful, seafood dishes Chef Manricos has mastered, but in the end, I went with the Pasta Puttanesca. Ever so fragrant, chalked full of delightful olives, and the richest tomato sauce with the perfect balance of garlic and anchovies it is one of the finest Italian dishes I've tucked into in awhile. Pair this memorable dish with the house red- heaven! Again, cannot express my gratitude enough regarding the fine service. Our chef came out multiple times to greet his guests and when he learned there was a milestone birthday being celebrated at our table it was Prosecco all around! Thank-you, thank-you. Although I've been to this place several times now, this occasion was the most memorable and I'd encourage anyone to plan there next family supper here. P.S. To top it off we ordered a Marguerite pizza to go. They must of ran out of basil the pizza literally only had 1 leaflet divided up in pieces. For the size of the pizza it was way overpriced. This was my second time to La Forchetta. Last time was a very busy Pre Christmas dinner. The restaurant was new and packed. It wasn't the greatest experience but we decided to give it another try. Tonight, we had a very quiet dinner and had the staff's full attention. The service was excellent. The food was good. The prices were downtown territory. We had the burrata, Calamari, and Olives to start. All tasty. My Wife and kid shared the 10oz Ribeye while I ordered the Vongole as a primi and the Lamb as a secondi. The steak was great if only accompanied by an out-of-a-bag portion of arugula with some halved cherry tomatoes. The Vongole was small (as a primi should be) mostly devoid of flavour and somehow rubbery. Not al dente, just rubbery. The clams were fine. The lamb chops are not lamb chops, they are 3 ribs from a rack of lamb. For $35, that is unacceptable. With the Vongole, that comes to $60 before tax and tip for a filling meal. For that price, it had better be stellar. This was good. I want to love this place. I like it. read more

First the welcome you receive as you walk through the door. The staff are all young European and friendly and funny! The service was outstanding! The food; we had the poached pear salad that was perfect. I had the pappardelle which I expected to be heavy but was light and delicious!. My wife is northern Italian and proclaimed the gnocchi the best. We ended with a cannoli. This sounds too good to be true but we had just walked out of another restaurant down the street because they insisted on putting us at a crummy table even though we had a reservation. This restaurant manages to be stylish and comfortably urban without being pretentious. It's like being in a downtown restaurant in a suburban neighbourhood. The staff was friendly and very attentive. We came on a Tuesday evening for dinner and the restaurant was relatively quiet and not busy. I had the Caribbean Vacation cocktail which has pineapple juice and lychee liqueur. Delicious. This will be my go-to drink the next time I come here. We started with the antipasto platter for two. The menu says it comes with olives but there wasn't any. Not a big deal, this dish was actually more filling than I had anticipated. For the main, I had the chef's signature dish, Maltagliati La Forchetta, which turned out to be a great choice. It had a white cream sauce but since it wasn't overly thick, I liked that it didn't leave me feeling heavy. To me this dish is memorable because it's unlike any pasta dish you'd typically see in other Italian restaurants. Lastly, we finished off with the tiramisu and it was pretty darn close to our favoured family recipe. It was well-presented with a little fruit (mango?) syrup on the side shaped like starbursts. For two people: appetizer for 2, cocktail (1), house wine (1), pasta (2), shared dessert (1) = about $100. It would be a pleasure to come here again for our next special occasion. read more

My husband and I went to La Forchetta as we love Italian food and to try out new restaurants. On first impression the room is lovely and modern with very tasteful décor. For starters he ordered the Caprese Salad and I had the Insalata Verde. Both salads were beautifully presented. His was exceptional as it was the largest tomato we have ever seen with slices of boconcini and fresh basil and my green salad was also fresh and delicious. For our main courses he had the Pappardelle with spicy Italian sausage and I had the fresh Mussels. My Mussels were served in a scrumptious tomato sauce and were excellent. He enjoyed his pasta so much that he was reluctant to even share a small bite with me! We were so impressed that as we were enjoying our food Chef Manrico came out of his kitchen briefly to check on his diners and make sure all was well with our meals!
