    Spaghetti di mare
    Chantal L.

My friend recommended this great little restaurant! Had the spaghetti di mare as a main a the calamari pizzaiola to start which were both fantastic. The service was excellent, our server was very attentive. Loved the little details like fresh flowers on each table. I will definitely be visiting again for the appetizing Italian cuisine.

We came here for the first time with high expectations based on reviews. We decided Dine Out Vancouver would be a good time to do so as my parents are visiting from Vancouver island and are foodies. Overall the food and service was good, but missed the mark in a couple of ways. Okay if I could rate 1/2 stars I would rate 3.5/5 but it's not quite a 4/5 in my opinion. Dine Out Vancouver should be a time for restaurants to put their best food forward and showcase items that really highlight what they do well. This is an Italian restaurant so I expected to have a delicious pasta or maybe a pizza as an option. The food they featured did not scream Italian. The entree options were a seafood risotto, a veal dish, or braised short ribs. (Extra $8) there was not even one pasta option... the closest was the risotto. Between everyone in our group, we tried everything except the burrata starter. The broth of the Raviolini in Brodo starter was super flavourful. The Caesar salad was also good but quite garlicky. For mains, the risotto was really tasty. The risotto itself was not over or under cooked and had a decent amount of seafood. The short ribs were cooked to perfection but were only served with a small portion of vegetables as a side which made the $8 up charge not really seem worth it. My mother in-law had the veal and said it was just ok. Both desserts were also very good, but I was disappointed that the tiramisu wasn't an option for Dine Out since they are apparently kind of known for that... At the end of the evening we were treated to complimentary mini meringue's which was very kind of them to do. The ambience was nice however it could be a bit more classy (maybe some candles) given the price point of the menu (regular menu items are on the higher end). There was also a lighting issue on our table. It might have been an electrical issue but one side of the table's lights kept going from dim to high periodically which was distracting and annoying, but we did not say anything. Our waiter was very attentive with checking in with us, refilling waters, etc. and helpful when it came to giving suggestions of what to order. I noticed a woman walking around to tables asking how everything was as well- I assume she is the owner so it's nice to see her taking a personal interest in her guests. I scanned their regular menu and can't say I would rush back based on the experience we had tonight. We were hoping to experience some traditional Italian food and left feeling like we did not.

Calamari Pizzaiola (squid sautéed in tomato sauce, capers, olives, garlic, fresh herbs). I can eat this all by myself. Delicious!!!

I've been going to Portobello for several years now. They have moved a few times and is now located in Burnaby. I've celebrated both regular and special occasions there. Portobello is a great place for authentic Italian food. I wasn't the only one celebrating a birthday the night I went. Rosa, the owner came by a few times to check on us and our server was also attentive. My friends and I shared the Italian Burrata and the Calamari Pizzaiola. For myself, I had the Linguine Alle Vongole. All dishes were delicious. Definitely check Rosa and Pino's restaurant!

Came here for the bite of burnaby which was $49 per 3 course menu. The ambience of the place and the service of the place were truly exceptional. Nonetheless, something about the flooring though is that i thought there was an earthquake everytime someone passes my table. I think this is something that portobello should fix. Lets get to the food: - Italian Burrata: the imported italian fresh burrata with baby arugula, fresh tomatoes , drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar won the show of the night. It was truly amazing! (5/5) - Zuppa: the roasted red pepper and tomato soup was just okay. Nothing exceptional. (3/5) - Vitello Al Marsala: the thin slices of veal sauteed with butter, mushrooms and imported sicilian marsala wine sauce and some vegetabl3s and roasted potatoes was quite good. This is worth the money especially the sauce!!! (4/5) - Spaghetti Di Mare: the wild argentina's prawns, halibut, sea scallops sauteed wirh vodka garlic, fresh herbs and light spicy rose sauce was a okay experience. The spaghetti was good already and the sauce was super good too. But the seafood was overcooked and made the dish become bad. I thought the fish was chicken lmao. (3/5) - Warm chcolate molten cake: it was good. It just needs ice cream to make it perfect (4/5) - Vanilla Panna Cotta with fresh raspbery sauce: it was truly exceptional too combine the two sincd there was no ice cream and it was perfect. (4/5) Overall, Portobello Restaurant is a good restaurant to eat italian food at. It has a lot of things to improve so that it can be a truly exceptional experience. This is definitely on the same level as baci but baci is better. Cheers! I hope this feedback helps!

Soft Italian Burrata cheese on a bed of arugula

Excited to share that the classy/cozy dining experience in the Burnaby Heights neighbourhood continues at this location. With such a great menu, and exceptional service I can't wait to come back. The interior and ambience feels similar to the previous Pear Tree restaurant with a romantic more dimly lit side and a small brighter dining area near the front window. There is no coat check here but your chairs are large and comfy enough to hold your coat. We got a table on a weekday for the Bite of Burnaby without a reso but would recommend it for any weekend or larger group. The clear plexiglass partitions are still up and acts as a bit of a sound barrier too so it's perfect for those intimate conversations. They started us off with some warm, freshly baked bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar that I wish I didn't devour so quickly, to save room for my other courses. (Half kidding) We each got the Italian Burrata, on a bed of arugula, which was so soft and creamy that it just melts in your mouth. You must try this but I warn you, it's enough for 2 people to share! We shared our mains and the server was so kind to quickly accommodate with extra dishes and serving utensils. The Seafood Spaghetti with a light rose sauce, was not spicy at all but gentle and very mild flavoured. I thought a touch more salt and acid would be perfect. The veal was tender and paired so well with the sautéed mushrooms and bed of veggies which was delicious and flavourful. The roasted cauliflower was yum! The parsley garnish was unnecessary in the veal dish and could have just been a few leaves for a pop of colour to garnish the pasta. The desserts are handmade by Rosa and were delicious! We ordered the Panna Cotta with Raspberry sauce, my fave, and the molten chocolate lava cake which was very rich and paired nicely with the raspberry. The gooseberry was not really needed for this dessert. We finished with a taste of Frangelico, hazelnut liqueur and I literally drooled as it hit my palate! I was sad to see the Pear Tree leave but so pleased that Portobello has arrived with Chef Pino, the lovely Rosa, and their wonderful staff to treat you to a special dining experience! Enjoy!

Newly opened Italian restaurant in Burnaby Heights. It's so nice to have this addition to the neighborhood! It's Italian comfort food created by the chef and owner (and pastries/desserts from his wife). Our servers were very friendly and welcoming and offered the special entree of the night. We shared the Argentine prawns appetizer. Prawns were juicy and so flavorful in the white wine garlic sauce. For the mains, we ordered the Linguine Alle Vongole & special (Lamb Chops in a red wine reduction sauce). Both dishes were amazing! The lamb chops cooked medium rare - be sure to smother lots of sauce with each bite!) Loved the Linguine Alle Vongole. Lots of clams and the noodles cooked al dente with so much flavour. I'm a fan of garlic! Must also try the Tiramisu for dessert. It is homemade (even the lady fingers are homemade!) Definitely try this restaurant out if you're in the area!

The restaurant looks clean, comfortable, which made me feel relaxed as soon as I walked in. The food was very good and easy to enjoy, even we are not familiar with Italian food. The dishes were well presented and looked fresh. The pasta was cooked nicely, not too soft, and the sauce had a rich and comforting taste. The flavors were balanced and not too heavy, which made the meal enjoyable from start to finish. The service was friendly and attentive. The staff were polite, patient, and helpful when explaining the menu. They made sure everything was okay and did not rush us, which made the dining experience even better. Overall, Claudio's is a great place for a casual meal or a nice dinner with friends or family. It is a good choice if you want to try Italian food in a comfortable and welcoming environment. I would be happy to come back again.

The vibe is inviting without trying too hard, with just the right balance of casual and classy. We tried the Rigatoni Panna E Prosciutto and the Tagliatelle Papalina -- both were absolutely fantastic. The tagliatelle had a silky texture and the sauce was beautifully balanced -- subtle, but packed with flavor. You can tell the pasta is fresh and made with care. Service was attentive and friendly throughout, never rushed, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there. The only thing I'd note is that the portion sizes were on the smaller side. That said, the quality and taste more than made up for it. Every bite was worth savoring. Highly recommend for date night or a cozy dinner with close friends. I'll definitely be back to try more from their menu.

All the dishes were excellent in taste & well prepared. I felt the portions of the Pasta's could have been a " shade larger" in quantity. Only Tomato Ketchup was offered with the Burger & I had to ask for Tabasco sauce to spice up the food. There were no Salt or Pepper cellars at the table & on request Salt was provided in a porcelin dish along with the Tabasco Sauce. It was such a nice experience the last time that we decided to go again. What a disappointment. We shared the same pasta we had the last time and it was still really good Zio Italiano. For entrees my husband had the pizza special of the day and it was disappointing. We did not care for the taste and the crust was soggy. My husband had roast duck the last time we were there, and it was so good that I decided on it for my entree. Our waitress said that it was served medium rare. Duck breast generally is served medium rare so I didn't have an issue with this. When it came to the table it wasn't just rare it was raw. I couldn't cut it with my knife and I sent it back to the kitchen. I had a caprese salad - very expensive at $19.00. It was good but I've had much better. A man, who I believe was probably the manager came to the table to check on us and apologized for the duck. We shared a creme brulee for dessert. With a bottle of one of the reasonably priced wines at $60.00 our meal with tip was almost $200.00. Definitely not worth the money. It was so different from our last experience. It's unlikely that we would return. I gave it 5* last time. What a difference. It was so much better last time and although the pricing is the same we felt that received value for the money last time.
