Pasta Al Pesto with Burrata (30$ with Burrata, 22$ without)
Ania D.

We ordered the: -Spaghetti Allo Scoglio (38$): If you enjoy seafood and "red" tomatoey garlicky pasta, this is the dish for you. -Pasta Al Pesto with Burrata (30$/22$ without Burrata): This was SO GOOD. The homemade pesto was DELICIOUS. The Burrata added a nice creaminess to it. The pistachios added a lovely crunchy nutty taste. The pasta was cooked Al dente. Yum! -Pappardelle "Roche Roche" -Daily Special (I think Pappardelle with mushrooms, guanciale, and truffle oil): This was (imo) the best dish. The truffle was sublime. The pasta was delicious and complimentary. The guanciale (along with sprinkling some of the parmesan provided on the table) added that extra bit of flavour/saltinnesss that would have been missing otherwise. Highly recommend this if you like truffle and carbonara, but want an elevated carbonara. Overall, all the pasta was delicious. The flavours were amazing. We were seated outside and it was a bit chilly, and it seems like there's not much room inside, so keep that in mind if you're thinking of coming. Service was a bit slow but that's ok-it was busy when we went and it gave us time to chat. Usually my qualm with Italian is that I can't fathom shelling out ~30 for something I could make at home, but the ingredients were high quality and the flavours were impeccable

Freshly made pasta with delicious sauces. The squid ink pasta was amazing both in execution and taste. Could have used a little less sauce or a way to control it though. Nonetheless, excellent dish. Dinner * Squid ink pasta (Excellent) * Ragu (Very good)

I'm new to Vancouver and I try to walk home from work a different way every night. After two weeks of being here with amazing sunny weather, the rain came to bless my walk home. I worked late tonight and was craving pasta on my way home. I decided to wonder the Yale Town neighborhood and saw this small Italian restaurant that didn't look crowded. I was able to get a seat right away and promptly ordered a glass of Chianti and glimpsed the menu. I was looking for a ragu so I ordered the pappardelle "Roche Roche". The dish was presented beautifully and the pasta was fresh and satisfying. For dessert, I ordered the Budino Al Cioccolato, and it was phenomenal. Very smooth, rich, and not too sweet. I will do sure come again.

A cute, quaint and quality restaurant that has some of the best Italian food in town! I'm never disappointed with Robba Da Matti! I've been to both the yaletown and Gastown locations. Personally, I prefer the patio at Yaletown and the inside at Gastown. Initially, we were seated in the only empty spot (we had reservations, but I assume everyone else did also) which was, unfortunately, by the dishwasher and very warm - although it's worth noting it's the warmest time of the year. However, we gave it a chance, and our waitress was kind enough to move us to a better table outside the first chance she had! I didn't even ask, she was kind and we were grateful for the consideration. (Although, I would advocate that the cooks need more AC or relief from that heat.) The restaurant was busy and the staff still managed to provide wonderful and attentive service. The food was delicious - my personal favorite Italian in Vancouver. I like the gnocchi, so it's my go-to. Notably, Gastown didn't add pesto to my dish and Yaletown did, and it made a large difference. Beautiful and tender gnocchi, with creamy burrata and a light, fresh pesto. My husband prefers the spaghetti con cream di limone e gamberi over the carbonara. He felt the carbonara was ok, but lackluster (Very umami, but nothing to brighten it up.) The Panna cotta was fresh and creamy, I highly recommend giving it a try. Overall, I'd absolutely return to Robba Da Matti and recommend it to those in the downtown Vancouver area for a nice dinner in a quaint spot.

Last night with my boys, looking for some decent Italian food. Headed into this hopping section of town and found this gem. The hostess seated us quickly and menus were distributed immediately. Restroom access is a little different, heading out of the restaurant and into a locked building with a key attached to a ladle but hey it worked. Good was good and solid but the ambiance is controlled by the crowd, ask for one of the few inside tables if you want to hold a conversation.

Burrata Caprese ($20)

4.5 Stars Small, cozy Italian spot in Yaletown that touts handmade pasta. We snagged a spot outside where there are heaters. The burrata caprese ($20) was hands down, the creamiest, loveliest burrata I have ever had. Wow, blew me away. Lobster and Crab Ravioli ($33) - surprisingly light. Sweet tomato sauce and succulent shrimps. Spaghetto Carbonara ($30) - rich, salty, and silky with crispy bacon bits Portion sizes are authentic Italian and not large. Our waitress was brusque and blunt and accommodating - in a good way :)

Tuna tartare

Decent Italian restaurant tucked in a residential street amongst condos and apt buildings. We were seated in their outdoor, covered, and heated patio. The inside of the restaurant is actually quite small, but the patio extension seats more people. Food wise, we were on a seafood trip and decided to order the tuna tartare and poached pears salad to start, then the lobster and crab ravioli and seafood spaghetti. All dishes tasted fine, but they weren't memorable. I was really hoping the lobster and crab ravioli would be tastier, but it was ok. Glad we tried this place though. The service was great and our server was just the right amount attentive.

GNOCCHI AI QUATTRO FORMAGGI

Back again for round 2! I love coming here at lunchtime on weekends because it's usually not too busy and I can actually take time to enjoy my food. There was only 1 server working but she was attentive and checked up on us often. This time around we ordered: 1. Prosciutto and burrata - Absolutely delicious. Thick pieces of prosciutto that weren't overly salted tasted amazing with fresh and light burrata. 2. Lobster and crab ravioli - I could really taste the crab. The only thing I didn't like was how many tomatoes there were which made the dish quite sour. 3. Gnocchi ai quattro formaggi - Flavour was great. But I did find the portion to be on the smaller side. 4. Spaghetti allo scoglio - tasty as always.

ragu and cacio e pepe
Kareen N.

Lovely restaurant to have some hearty Italian food. I came with a friend after work because i was craving some pasta and it was very cozey and sweet. I would love to come again with my boyfriend for a date night. For starters, we shared the beef carpaccio and it was really good! Would recommend if you like arugula (cause they really top it with quite a bit). The sauce is also quite lovely. For mains, I recommend getting the ragu, it was hearty, rich and warm. Not sure what else you could ask for from a ragu/red-sauce pasta. My friend got the cacio e pepe and she seemed to really like it but I thought it was just ok, I thought it could be creamier and i did consider taking a star off but it's not a bad cacio e pepe at all I'm just a harsh critic (I've also had cacio e pepe in Rome and that's just hard to beat). Our server was also incredibly kind and fun to have, I thoroughly enjoyed her service that night and she seemed knowledgable about the menu. Definitely would recommend to give it a try!

Prosciutto plate and mozzarella was quite tasty.

Food quality I would give 5 STARS, but for customer service I would give 2 STARS so the compromise is a 3 STAR review as I hate to slander great locations I visit. This trip to Vancouver BC I experienced 3 very unpleasant interactions with service workers, and very bland and inconsiderate attitudes. Somewhat even ugly. Don't know if it's just the season, people having a bad day, or some other weird vibe in the air. My issue here was table placement and the attitude towards moving us to a more comfortable table. We chose to sit on the patio and the table they provided was in the middle of of the section. Due to traffic of the server, they asked me to sit next to my wife rather than across from here, which made for an uncomfortable dining experience, as her knees were pushed into mine. When a table next to us became available, I asked if we could move there, which wouldn't have been difficult at all. The waitress said she needed to ask the manager. When she returned she said "unfortunately I can't move you there because we have another reservation coming in in 15 mins". My response to her was "can you give them this table?". She said "no, because they have a reservation". I said to myself and my wife "well we had a reservation as well". My issue here is that we had the most uncomfortable table in the entire restaurant and she wasn't willing to do anything about it. Her attitude was very uncaring about our comfort, and the weird placement of this table. I feel as though she made no attempt to accommodate us, even when there was an option available. It was fine for us to sit there, but not a party arriving after us, even after we made it clear we weren't happy with this seating arrangement. The food was excellent, the vibe was great, and the location was very convenient. Great place for a date as long as you don't get the table we got. Would definitely return for the food, but hoping for a better customer service experience. Italian restaurant's are supposed to be intimate, and seating, vibe, decor, and other elements contribute to that, so terrible seating placement can ruin an entire experience, especially when dining with your lady. Just my take on this.

Cristina C.

Our meal was exceptional. I felt like I was back in Italy. The pasta was house made fresh. The sauces were incredible. The mozzarella in carrozza was expertly prepared. Could have used just a hint of salt but otherwise I was in heaven. The wine selection was superb. The patio was adorable and I enjoyed the music selection. Complimenti al chef!

Ambiance: 4/5 Service: 2.5/5 Food: 3.5/5 Overall: 4/5 I have been coming to Robba da Matti for years now and used to have a great opinion of it that's slowly diminished over time unfortunately. As for ambiance, their inside portion is quite small and the kitchen is an open kitchen so it smells strongly like pasta ingredients (mostly garlic) and your clothes/hair will likely smell like that when you leave. The patio portion is nice to sit in and can be covered on rainy or cold days. The service definitely fell flat for me each time I went; the staff seem to be quite selective with which tables they pay attention to so we found that lots of time would go by with no check (both when we were wanting to order and pay) so we had to flag down the staff ourselves with difficulty. As for food, while the pasta is good, there are lots of amazing pasta spots in the city at a comparable price point so sadly it's a tough competition that I don't think Robba da Matti would make my list of top 5 for, personally. Overall, I like that you can make reservations here and if someone I knew really wanted to come I would go along with them but I wouldn't suggest going here if an Italian craving hit

Lemon pasta with shrimp
Cristina M.

This restaurant provides delicious, rich tasting Italian food in an intimate ambiance with excellent service! We had the lemon pasta, gnocchi, pear and burrata salad with their bread. The burrata was creamy and rich and the poached pears tasted just like fall! Everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The service was also attentive. They constantly came to check on us and refill our water, which I always appreciate.

We had begun our night at Bar Gobo and just was not feeling it, so we decided to come to La Boqueria instead for dinner. We were able to get a table right away with a quick phone call, and they saved us a table upon our arrival! We mainly came here for wine and the delicious Pintxos, and between the two of us we shared a bottle of the Blasted Church Hatfields Fuse, and a platter of 5 Pintxos (great date meal!). Due to the current circumstances they seemed to be understaffed so the food was taking longer than usual so they offered us a complimentary dish of Pulpo a la Gallega - perfectly cooked giant octopus with potato, mayo and paprika - if I knew how delicious it was I would have definitely ordered it as an appy! The Pintxos are to die for - perfect for sharing. Our favourite was probably the negitoro, and the ultimate sardine. The platter of 5 is a perfect portion for 2 people and a great way to try a selection of Pintxos and a delicious explosion of variety of flavors. This place is a must-visit for seafood lovers, and such a unique offering comparing to the many tapas options in the city. My only feedback is I would have probably liked a more extensive list of red wine; maybe more full bodied reds? The cocktail list also looks amazing as well but sharing a bottle of wine is such a great date idea that we decided to leave the cocktails for our next visit. If you are looking for an unique romantic date night spot, I would highly recommend La Boqueria because it will be sure to delight and surprise your date with a great meal, ambiance, and great service. Truly a hidden gem in Vancouver for seafood and wine lovers. They are only open for dinner service for now so be sure to make a reservation.

Our server was attentive and around when we needed something but never interrupting, and his recommendations ended up being some of our favourite dishes. The mushroom toast was rich, savoury, and full of umami. Just a heads up not to let it sit too long since it softens the bread. The tuna tartare was fresh and well-balanced. Not my personal favourite served on toast, but still really enjoyable overall. The paella was excellent, perfectly cooked shrimp, tclams, and crispy pork belly chicharrón that added the best salty, fatty crunch. The roasted cabbage completely surprised me and was easily one of the best veggie dishes I've had in a while. I could have eaten a whole plate of it. We wrapped things up with churros and shared a pitcher of sangria. For three people, it came out to about $68 each before tip, which felt very fair for how much we ordered. I had the bartender mix up a "strong drink". It was a shot of JD mixed with something out a green mystery bottle. Hopefully it wasn't antifreeze. Came to $4.50. Not bad! My biggest problem (though this is not the only place guilty of this) is that the music is too freaking loud. I couldn't hear anything, and had to shout in people's ears. Yes there's a DJ there (and he's quite good, hello Snoop Dogg, blast from the past), but seriously, please turn it down a notch. The other thing I didn't like is that the interior is quite plain. Yes, it's supposed to look like a refinery, but putting 500 glass jars filled with random food items on the shelves on the wall doesn't cut it. The cozy converted house was full but not loud with dim lighting and close‑set tables for an almost home‑dinner vibe. From my visit, we shared three standout plates. The alcachofas con jamón paired confit baby artichokes with roasted onion and jamón Ibérico. It was a good balance of textures and classic Spanish seasoning. The ensalada de ajo blanco con tomates asados y atún semicurado brought a creamier, richer profile: silky almond‑garlic dressing on fire‑roasted tomatoes with chunks of semi‑cured tuna and a drizzle of ash oil that added a nice aromatic note. The arroz negro arrived with seafood mixed into deeply flavoured squid‑ink rice; it was hot, savoury, and rich, perfect with a squeeze of lemon and garlicky aioli. Service was a definite high point! It was warm, knowledgeable, and paced so we weren't rushed. Portions were generous enough for sharing among two, especially with the more substantial rice dish in play. That said, the overall meal trended toward the rich and dense, so pairing with a couple of the lighter salads or crisp wines next time would help round things out. Would recommend for for date nights, small groups, or anyone curious about Spanish flavours. Lighter eaters might want to mix in a salad or a vegetable forward plate to balance the richer offerings.

EL MERCAT Spanish Food…read more Summer Pop Up Store We tried some samples: Gazpacho A traditional Spanish drink that was mixed of tomato, cucumber, onion, bell pepper, garlic, cider vinegar, olive oil, salt, black pepper Traditionally, gazpacho is a fresh, puréed tomato soup of Spanish origin. It typically is made with lots of garlic, onions, bell peppers and cucumbers. This was refreshing and bursting with fresh-from-the-garden flavors. This was like non-alcoholic Spanish version of Tomato Caesar Drink. Taste: 3/5 Sangria - in house drink This tasted very refreshing with fruity smell and flavor. Taste: 4/5 Tortilla De Patatas Spanish omelette or Spanish tortilla is a traditional dish from Spain and one of the signature dishes in the Spanish cuisine. It is an omelette made with eggs and potatoes, optionally including onion. It is often served at room temperature as a tapa. Wikipedia It tasted good as an appetizer. The texture was like a breakfast potatoes with onions in omelette. I would like this to be served in hot. Taste: 3.5/5 Quillo Potato Chips - 100% olive oil and salt This Spanish potato chips were crunchy, crispy with a perfect balance of olive oil and salt. I like it. Taste: 4/5 Acorn Fed 100% Iberian Bellota Ham, Hand-cut It's about Cdn $3000 for the whole leg. It was not for samplings but luckily the staff hand-cut a small slice for us. He explained why this ham is premium quality & taste. This ham is from free range pigs that only fed with 100% acorns. Omg, it tasted amazingly delicious. It was like melt in your mouth with a rich aromatic flavor. Taste: 5/5 Unfortunately we came in late afternoon, other tapas and Basque-style Cheesecake samples were gone.
