Generally not enjoyable. The atmosphere is kind of dark and dreary. The chips they served were legitimately stale. We also found that the food just seemed to use cheap ingredients. Everything just simply tasted cheap. The service was alright, I think the owner was actually serving us. But the odd thing was that the other server didn't seem to know that the owner was serving us so he would ask us the same questions that the owner did right after the owner asked. It was odd and just felt unprofessional . The other server also seemed generally disgruntled. Neither of us finished our food as we sort of lost our appetite. I have eaten here several times over the years and find their food quite delicious, but my rating is lowered based on the overall experience (or lack of it) that this restaurant provides. This place has so much potential that they just never achieve. They serve tasty food in a place located in Kihei with a confused ambiance, but at Wailea prices. The decor makes me wonder what they're trying to achieve. Each time I've eaten there, at least one person in our group has received an incorrect order. Roasted Chiles fixes it immediately, but again, it's happened every time. It's like they can never get it quite right for a cohesive experience. If you're going for good food, I can wholeheartedly recommend this place. If you want a little more out of a meal that's a bit on the spendy side (like good service, getting the meal your ordered as you ordered it, a place with a little music and pleasing, cohesive decor), then one of our local food trucks might better achieve that! Tonight's experience ended with the server asking if we wanted our change back (this was after he'd taken our payment and brought change, but before handing it to us). This isn't like the Tex-Mex restaurants in Dallas, where I lived for 30 years, but it was good. So the 4 rating is in context, that is Hawaii. In Dallas this would be a 3-3.5. Margaritas had a nice flavor, but were a little watered down. Might be because we asked for them frozen. Waitress said they usually do them on the rocks, but we weren't the only ones who had them frozen. Chips and salsa were really good - we rate Mex places on the salsa, and we had 4 or 5 ramekins of the stuff. Could've had more; kind of felt embarrassed at asking for so many times. Guacamole had a nice flavor. It was a little runny - we didn't know whether it was the lime or what. Kind of odd. But the flavor was great. Not cheap - $9 for the side. Chicken fajitas were tasty, crisp and had plenty of flavor. Set up could've had more refried beans, but I always say that - love them when they're great. Try this restaurant! I don't love Tex-Mex and this is a pretty normal Tex-Mex type spot. All of the burritos and fajitas you'd expect, but there is a little more to the menu than that. Everything we've had has been good, so the menu seems like one where you can order anything and expect quality. Personally, I've gotten bored with Tex-Mex over the years, but it's really nice for both tourists and locals who originate from the mainland (and for Hawaiians too, I'm sure!) to have a place that resists the urge to abandon its roots and become a Hawaiian version of something that's not Hawaiian. Sure, they have margaritas with lilikoi and stuff, but that's just what grows here. Whether you're visiting and don't want 100% of your food to be Hawaiianized, or you live here but want a taste of a mainland restaurant, Roasted Chiles definitely offers that. (And to be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with how many Hawaiian/tropical foods there are on Maui. I mean, it's Maui. The only thing I don't love is when every established cuisine comes to Maui and the restaurant decides that everything needs to have pineapple and mango in it. I really wanted this to be good and based on the reviews our expectations we pretty high. Out of all the meals we had out while on Maui it was the most disappointing. Jalapeno margarita was great, my wife's mojito was awful. Guacamole was good and the chips were as well, but $14? My carnitas was full of fatty chunks I had to pick out. Large enough they could have easily been removed before being out on my plate. It was also dry. The thimble of sauce that came with it was underwhelming. My wife chicken enchiladas were flavorful, but just ok. I found it very interesting that many items, including different sauces, are ala carte for burritos and quesadillas. $5 for guac on a burrito and and $3 for poblano sauce? Seriously? This is top notch Mexican food! We are from San Diego and this place is as good as any back home. We had kids plates, which the kids ate every bite of. My wife had tacos el pastor. We yelped this place...was looking for a good Mexican restaurant WITH a full bar. Good choice! We have been to Fred's before. We were looking For better Mexican food than Fred's. Fred's is more of a popular hang out, food is so so...but this place?! Really good Mexican food! I was nervous at first because when we got there there was like no one there. But, hubby decided he wanted to try it anyways, even tho he usually bases how good a restaurant is based on the crowd... Customer service was quiet but friendly. Not too fast on checking up on you...but not ridiculous slow either. The chips were hot and the salsa was flavorful. I ordered a top shelf margarita,..was really good. Oh yeah, they gave out a little lobster/ crawfish based hand soup before the chips...was a nice touch and flavorful. Really good. The food came out fast and was hot and sooooo good. First, I'd like to say the chicken enchiladas were pretty good and nothing was wrong with the bottle of XX Amber, but the road to these two points was quite painful. This was our first trip to this restaurant. The menu handed to me was dirty with some unidentifiable slimy gunk. I asked for a napkin to wipe the slimy gunk from my hand and the very young server thought providing a replacement menu was more important. Finally got my hands clean, used hand sanitizer and moved on to look at the menu. Our server appeared with two glasses and left to get water for us. I immediately noticed the glasses were very dirty. I knew then I would be ordering something from a bottle to drink. I was interested in cheese enchiladas but changed my mind when the server informed me the cheese in the enchiladas was mozzarella!! Seriously, mozzarella cheese in Mexican cheese enchiladas!! I wound up ordering guacamole for my meal. It wasn't bad, I'd say about average. My husband ordered chicken enchiladas, which had a very tasty red sauce more like a mole sauce than the typical red sauce. We won't be going back. read more

Not good. Terrible service, bad quality of food over priced and over rated! I ordered lingostino enchiladas. 1st bite it was cold, so I stopped and told the server. She said that she will tell the kitchen cook. Then the second and different server asked if the food was okay. I said no, the first server heard and she told the second server that she already told the kitchen cook. No one asked to replace the entree no one asked if I would like another entree. Best Mexican Food in South Maui. Today we visited Roasted Chile's on a whim. We were actually sitting in the parking lot of another Mexican food restaurant looking up their reviews when Roasted Chiles popped up on the yelp app list and it had such great reviews we decided we'd better try it and see what the fuss is about. We're from Texas and we live on Maui part-time. In the past several years we've tried multiple Mexican food restaurants, today was the end of that search! I ordered the carne asada tacos and my husband got the nachos. Both dishes were awesome. They also offer complimentary chips and salsa (limit 2) Best chips and salsa we've had on island. We bought extra salsa to take home with us. The restaurant itself was immaculate, and our waiter (Stewart) was great. He took excellent care of us. Our first experience here was solely for a spicy roasted jalapeño margarita that had roasted jalapeños infused with it. However, our hearts were stolen by the Roasted Ripper hot salsa! We wish they served us more than a tiny 2oz container, but it was still worth the price. We're fanatics for spice and this salsa had us come back 4 days later to get a few batches to-go before we jetted back off for the mainland. The ambiance is fun and the service was terrific. They even served us a batch of their house salsa and chips while we waited for our take-out chips and salsa order. But, we got a response from the owner Ofrir, so on this trip we wanted to give an other try...., when we met him, I told him about our last experience and his response was why we were there..., that being said they brought up their A game! Shout out to Nicolette and Hayden!...., We came back a few nights later, this time we threw a drink request at the bartender that wasn't on the menu n she nailed it...., n the steak fajitas were sizzling n yummy! We will be back! If you want delicious, authentic Mexican food in Maui look no further. I had the Langostino enchiladas, which was a very generous portion. I also tried the Pozole which had a delicious kick, and the two spicy salsas they have. I preferred the green spicy one. All the food had fantastic flavor. They also had an extensive drink menu. Vallarta Rita is a delicious passion fruit margarita. I was not crazy about the Hawaiian Hibiscus margarita. Their website says "best Mexican food in Maui", which is a very accurate statement. My fiancé and I went here on out last night in Maui on 5-13-17, and we are so glad we did. Felt like being waited on, instead of going to one of the numerous order up front places. Our waitress Allisun was absolutely incredible. She wore a smile from ear to ear and was amazingly attentive. I really wish we had more servers like her in California. We could use the positive vibes she gave off. Even if the food sucked, I would come back just for her service. I ordered the fish tacos, and the woman ordered lobster enchiladas. She also had a watermelon margarita, and I chose a jalapeno margarita. Everything was absolutely amazing. The flavors were vibrant, the drinks refreshing. Everything is made of scratch. AMAZING! 12 stars for this wonderful restaurant. Get the serrano garlic salsa and plabano sauce on everything! We took a chance based on Google reviews and were blown away by the quality of the food and the service. I personally had the Pescadillas appy as an entree and it was enough for me after sharing a few baskets of chips with salsa, guacamole, and queso. My table also ordered a chicken fajita, carnitas, and chorizo burrito...all were fantastic and so full of flavour. The yummy beans are vegetarian which is a bonus and the rice is delicious as well. And the margaritas...so many to choose from! I had the roasted jalapeno margarita and it was perfectly balanced between spicy and sweet. Topped the meal off with some crispy churros with a choice caramel, chocolate or condensed milk to dip in. The menu boasts about 40 different Tequila options, will try have to try more next trip. We were heading back to our hotel on Ka'anapali after a day at Makena Beach and really wanted some good, authentic Mexican food. Found a listing for Roasted Chiles and off we went! Nice decor, super friendly service (Poor Hugh - he was the only waiter in the place and he still managed to keep a smile on his face while he ran from table to table!) My husband had the burrito special and it was both tasty and filling...I had the chicken enchiladas, but requested them with the verde sauce instead and they were perfect! Light, flavorful, with a bit of crema and fresh cojito on top, just like my Oaxacan friends would make! Definitely one of our best lunches in Maui! read more
