I was on my way to the QKC when I realized it was Happy Hour so I decided to treat myself here. Unfortunately the waiter said no alcohol today. I love their margaritas and I've tried a Guava one previously. I ended up treating myself to a refreshing Horchata (Rice Milk drink with Cinnamon) and 2 Happy Hour Tacos. They have Hard or Soft and Ground Beef or Chicken option and guess what...they're $3.50/each! Who can beat that price on Maui?! On top of that, it wasn't busy so I got my food fast and the waiter was friendly and accommodating. I asked for some chips and salsa. The red salsa was mild and green salsa was on the mild/medium side. A few chips underneath were stale unfortunately but it was ok, overall, I'd be back for the Happy Hour Specials! They also had Birria Tacos for $5.50 as well. So I went with my other half to get a quick bite at Fernando's (keep in mind I love Mexican & been going here since forever). immediately I sensed there was no AC. I thought I'd be okay but I was dying, drenched in sweat before the drinks even came. I ignored it. I tried not to grumble. We ordered then waited. Wait time was great super fast service, however when the food was being walked to our table, it came with a swarm of FLIES! me and my other half started swatting around us so that the flies wouldn't get on our food! We had to make sure that the flies wouldn't fly into our mouth as we were taking bites of our food. It was really unpleasant, We were really annoyed and at disgust of the place but we were already this far in and didn't want to make a scene. While eating my sour cream and guacamole something in it was just sour and tasted yuck. I'm just really disappointed. Fernando's is run down, the ceiling was falling, they lost their license to serve alcohol & have one waitress who does everything... We ordered 2 taco salad and a side of chips and salsa. I've ordered these items before and was never able to finish the salad. Tonight, I'm still hungry. The portions of everything: meat, lettuce, etc are much smaller. And when I've ordered it in the past, the lettuce was still fresh even after a 30-40 minute drive. We did a staycation over in Maui and visited the mall. Hungry for Mexican, we decided to give Fernando's a chance. We are so glad we did. The establishment is spacious and service was exceptional. They charge for nachos and salsa but that seems the norm for many places. The salsa was good. The green had more of a vinegary taste which i love. I ordered the chili relleno as that is my standard whenever I venture to a new Mexican restaurant-plus it's something that I could never make. I was not disappointed. The chili was massive and the cheese pull extraordinary. The mr had a chimichanga and said it was packed with chicken and flavorful. Rice and beans are pretty much standard in taste. I went in there for a nice cold one after work to quiche my thirst just to find out they lost their liquor license no big deal I'll just get some later. I got a pop and it was 4 dollars (wasn't complaining until I looked down and saw that it's 1 dollars for a refill). It was 75 degrees today and they have no ac! So it's a sauna In there. Ceiling has a gaping hole and you can tell that's it's water damage because it's musty in there. Went to the bathroom and it didn't get better it smelled like sewage that was just sitting in there. I went to wash my hands and they had no soap you could tell they ran out and just filled it up with water. I hope they are able to make changes to make it better. read more

I was immediately greeted and seated upon entry.The waiter took my beverage order and lunch selection. Then went over and replaced the hostess prepping the knives and forks in napkins. Only after several minutes, just before my lunch arrived did he bring me the water I ordered. The restaurant appeared to be clean, music in the background a tad bit loud, but pleasant. I'm so glad we came here for a few drinks on Friday evening! We walked in it was still day light and happy hour had already started! Drinks were cold and the service was great! The waitress was really sweet and attentive. My only wish was that they would have a draft beer but instead I got a cold beer in a cold glass. Hey pretty much the same thing! So I won't complain.. I used to eat at Fernandos all the time when they were in Maui Marketplace. So it has been a little while since then. My girlfriend and myself were at the Queen Ka'ahumanu Mall the other day and we were hungry so we decided to stop in and grab a bite to eat. When we got there they were not that busy, there were only two or three other parties there. So we were seated almost immediately , it looked like the host was also our server. So she was pretty busy. The place is looking a little run down, it did seem clean just needs some fresh paint. The server was very nice I wish i could remember her name but I was exhausted from a long plane ride. She did however let us know that they had no alcohol which I don't know if that was just for that day or if it is ongoing. That was not really a problem for me because I just wanted food and not alcohol. The food was pretty good. We ordered the carnitas taco salad and the adobada burrito which came with rice and beans. The taco salad was really good the burrito was ok but i feel like it could have used more flavor. The prices have Definitely gone up since the last time we ate there. I don't feel like the prices match what you get the flavor were ok but not great. The salsas were ok but not great. Hopefully they were having an off day, will have to try them again but as far as this time around was not impressed with price , product only thing that was decent was the service. read more

I probably come here with my friends at least once a month. This is our spot to unwind, drink great margaritas (lilikoi and mango are my faves) and get some quesabirria tacos. This is my go-to meal here because the consomé they make is so delicious. It's thicker than others I've had, so it stays with your taco when you dip it. Yes, it's a little pricey, but the servers are super on it, the food is delicious and they have a nice bustling atmosphere. We also love their fajitas, which come with all the fixins on the cutest serving platter. Please check them out and give this great family owned business some love. Fernando's is our favorite restaurant to come to! Great atmosphere, awesome service and delicious food. This restaurant is conveniently located near our home (and the airport for traveller's looking for their last meal before returning home). My go-to is the Carne Asada (entree or burrito) because of its wonderful, rich flavors. The fried ice cream is definitely the best way to cap the evening. Highly recommend coming in for a margarita or two, really can't go wrong with anything here. We have brought visiting friends & family here and they absolutely love this little hole-in-the-wall stop. Not to mention all the TVs to watch our teams as we enjoy oir time here. Cindy is amazing and will sometimes offer secret off-item menus to us. Although there are new taco joints out there, we wanted a cold beer with our lunch. Fernandos here we come. Gotta say service was great, friendly and attentive. Beers were cold, tri-color chips were crisp, salsa was fresh. The place is comfortable and clean. A new Avocado-Jalapeño Sauce really hit the spot and is very impressive. Pork Carnitas was really great, seasoned and fried flavorful, not bland. Battered Chili Relleno was generously stuffed with 8 ounces of delicious Jack cheese. Warm beans and red rice were good with typical Spanish seasoning. A side of corn or flour tortillas were nice and warm. There may be better Mexican Cuisine elsewhere, but for location and convenience, it hits the spot on Maui. Located across the Friends of the Library used bookstore, and the now defunct last Sears & Roebuck store in Hawaii. Large portions for the value. I must commend this business for doing an outstanding job in seating all customers (who chose to dine inside of the restaurant), as social distancing was practiced. 2. Before we sat down, I saw a worker spraying down the tables & chairs with a special cleaner, before allowing patrons to sit at the table. 3. The food here was OUTSTANDING!!! Just take one look at my Chicken Burrito, and that will say it all for you! I GOT DA Burrito GRINDZ that day!!!!! 4. Fast & Friendly service...........our drinks were refilled on a timely basis, and several complimentary chips & salsa were delivered to our table. Honestly, ever since this Covid-19 thing started to blow up in the 808, I'm not to at ease with dining inside of a restaurant (due to potential exposure). I had a less than desirable dinner at Fernando's. I would say the food was fine, but I was quite disappointed with the service. To start, our waiter was rude and was not very helpful. I was eating dinner with my friends and we asked him if he could split the bill. He took the bill, then came back and said, "I couldn't do it. You need to figure it out." We had a couple other concerns that we had to talk about with the waiter and manager, to which they did not respond kindly and would not make eye contact. They were multitasking and never took a minute to give us their attention. (Mind you, we were happy to wait patiently until they were done AND we were one of only two tables occupied inside the restaurant). So I would not choose to come back to Fernando's. Unfortunately, we may have caught these people on a bad day, but that did not excuse the way we were treated and served. read more

Buyer beware - Three stars are only for the convenience if you are shopping at the mall. Prices are through the roof and quality is bad. Servers are hard to flag down. I was charged for the wrong item and the server would not correct the mistake. I witnessed another patron complaining, as well. Although I complained, I didn't want to fight it when she refused to correct the mistake. I just will never be back. I been coming to this restaurant for years. I come for the chile verde dish. This place is a mess. The service is absolutely horrible. It's like they don't need to do good service cause they will get the tip anyway???? I have no clue what's going on here. Time and time again I want to eat out with my family and this is a convenient spot but good lord help these owners. The restaurant is dirty. The bathroom is disgusting and the wait staff just don't give a s****. It's sad that this local restaurant is another one that is trying to run something half ass. I understand food is expensive, which they raised their prices and that's fine, rent is expensive, I understand...but that should have absolutely nothing to do with the crap service and disgusting facility. If you can't do it right then just don't do it. This is another restaurant I have supported and been to and I am done being disappointed and wasting my hard earned money to have a terrible experience with my family! Generally, okay food and today was pretty good food. I enjoyed their chile relleno plate. The food really depends on the day of the week. I have not figured out the pattern yet. There is a weird new "avocado" (?) puree/sauce that was served with my chips. It had the consistency of baby food. It was hot, like it was spiked with cayenne pepper, but had very little flavor overall. I traded it for the more traditional - though watery - tomato salsa. My dining partner ordered the chicken nachos. THAT looked amazing. I may try that next time. The portion was HUGE so I better plan on sharing! Sharing nachos is to avoid leftovers. Leftover nachos become a soggy mess in an hour. Although you CAN crisp them back up in the oven if you are willing, it's impossible to microwave them back to life. Don't even try that. Use the oven. Actually, I dislike microwaving anything unless I am forced to. Okay, back to the review... LOL. Service, per usual, is very pleasant and welcoming. Their service is one of the main reasons why I return. Location is second. Their food is third. The prices have crept up there! I spent nearly $30, before tip, for a glass of wine, a glass of soda water and lime ($3.50!) and my chile relleno plate. Next time, I will order the Chicken Tortilla soup or a single taco to satisfy my late afternoon munchies. I will doubtless be back but just a little smarter when I order. read more

Unfortunately since this restaurant was sold, it hasn't been the same. The bartender there was really nice, however the waitress was... different. She kept walking away as we were trying to talk to her, as well as, there was lack of common etiquette. Get this story: We asked for salsa and she comes over to our table with a chip in her hand and our salsa. As she's walking over we see her dip HER chip in OUR salsa. She then proceeds to give us the salsa, eats the chip in front of us and says " I got hungry on the way here". It was something my family and I never experienced before to the point where it was funny. Either way, the quality of the food declined, however it's not horrible, it's just not authentic. Went to use the rest room and overheard a male patron ask kitchen staff for soap for the men's room (the kitchen staff is mostly males but no one noticed the soap needs refilling?! We were able to be seated and didn't have to show any proof of vaccination. Both salsas for the complimentary chips were spicy and good. In my opinion needed a tad more salt and luckily I always travel with my own Hawaiian salt. My michelada was delicious and the chicken nachos were temperature hot. Just the way I like it. Sat in window seat w two dead flies on sill next to me. Only Mexican restaurant on planet w no chips and salsa service? Ordered two lemonades, only one came out. My lunch order was mixed up with my daughter's friend's, so I bit into her burrito then had to swap instead of sending back to kitchen. Asked for salsa and hot sauce. One tiny flavorless cup came out to our dry plates. Husband ordered 'wet' burrito, but came dry. Never got hot sauce. I originally ordered black beans, but they were OUT?! Wt?? We had an amazing time! Came here with a friend because I had to go to the dentist at the mall and I'm so glad we came. The owner/bartender Cindy was a delight, along with the whole staff, not to mention the margaritas! She was very accommodating offering blended or traditional margaritas in a variety of flavors, I had the liliokoi margarita on the rocks and boy it hit the spot! Sweet and tart and it really helped ease the pain after a dental visit! And reasonably priced and convenient location! Can't wait to come back and try more! Not authentic Mexican food and the place is really filthy. Table was sticky and the bathroom was a mess. The ground beef on my taco salad and my wife's tacos was bland. The salsa is in small cups that can't fit a tortilla chip. Not sure why they do that. The spicy salsa was good. The waitress was very polite and on the ball. Please just clean the place! read more
