Round 2... nailed it again! I can't tell you how incredible the breakfast is... 5 stars for sure! It's a hole in the wall, the place really is deceiving. Pancakes, sausage patties, and the hashbrowns are cooked perfectly! You want an excellent breakfast this is the place!

    Chicken fried steak.

It is always on our radar when we go to Astoria. Sitting on one of the old piers with a few other shops and a small museum this place is so warm, friendly with great coffee drinks and food that is perfect. They even allowed 3 of us a couple years ago to stay and use their Internet to work. Of course we kept buying coffee and food, that is a must for taking up their customer space. The service and friendliness of this place is top notch from any coffee shop I have been too. I really would love to keep this place a secret, but I want them to be here when I return so if you are in town please go visit them and hang iut for a bit with some coffee and food.

I enjoyed seeing the diverse customers onsite, plus great views of the Columbia River waterway with container ships and even pelicans. There are both indoor and outdoor seating available. Visit #1 (6/19/25) The Homie had a 12oz The Pink Pony, which was a Strawberry Lavender Latte and a cherry pie bar. I had an 8oz mocha and a brownie. The brownie was fresh, fudgy, and decadent. Visit #2 (6/22/25) The Homie had a 12oz Rocky Road and a S'mores bar. On the sweet end of things. I had an 8oz cortado which was a perfect foil to another brownie. Missed out on lemon bars, but we shared a ginger cookie. Waiting in line during our second visit, I was able to look at their merch: Cafe D'Arte coffee beans, mugs, bags & totes, patches, masks, beanies, caps, Tshirts, and hoodies. Make sure to sign up at the register for frequent buyer points and/or a punch card. Liked it so much we visited this indie bakery & cafe twice! Great experience and a worthy detour.

I stumbled across Goondocks Bistro while I was in town and decided to give it a try. From the moment we sat down, the waitress was incredibly friendly and patient. She made me feel welcome and checked in at the right times without being overbearing. Honestly, service like that goes a long way, and she absolutely earned a 5 out of 5 for service. As for the food, I ordered the ribs and brisket. The ribs were a bit over-seasoned for my taste -- the flavor was strong but a little overpowering. The brisket, unfortunately, was too dry to my liking. I was hoping for something juicy and tender, but it didn't quite deliver. Overall, I just wasn't a fan of the BBQ here. I'd give the food a 2 out of 5. The atmosphere was decent -- nothing particularly over-the-top, but comfortable enough for a casual meal. Since I just happened to find this place while in town, it felt like a solid local spot to try, even if the food didn't wow me. I'd give the atmosphere a 3 out of 5. Outstanding! Simply put, this is probably the best restaurant in the Astoria/Long Beach area. We've…read morebeen twice inside of 6 weeks, and it's been amazing both times. Let's start with the service. It's definitely a family-run business, and everyone is invested! Everyone working there seems to be enjoying it. This comes through in the service provided. Everyone chips in, from filling water glasses to bussing tables, etc. The ambiance is excellent. They've decorated the space really well; the tables and couches are comfortable, and every table has some sort of river view. There is an outdoor dining area - which was closed in January and February - that we'll definitely be taking advantage of this summer. I'm usually skeptical of new business out here at the mouth of the Columbia. I read so many Facebook posts about 'This restaurant is amazing' or 'the best Chinese food I've ever had.' This sets us up for disappointment. We'd heard good things about Akres, and every good thing we heard was validated. We haven't had anything in two dinners there that we wouldn't order again, and we intentionally chose different entrees each time to experience as much of the menu as possible. On our first visit in early January, we enjoyed the Chicken Kabobs and the Carlton Farms Pork. Everything was great! My wife loved the Kabobs, and the Pork was stellar! I don't normally like greens, but the seasoning used on the roasted potatoes and winter greens was just so good! The pork itself was cooked perfectly, slow roasted, but with crispy edges. We shared a Horiatiki Salad with Kalamata olives and feta that was great! It was the only food item we ordered both times we visited. The second time we visited, the restaurant was significantly more busy, as it was Friday evening before Valentine's Day. But the service was still great, despite the place being filled to capacity, including a group of 30 which was seated just 10 minutes after us. My wife ordered the special - Moussaka. She couldn't have been more pleased. In general, she'll order moussaka when it's available, and it usually underwhelms. Not last night! It was fabulous. I took a bite of her moussaka, then went back for another, and another - you get the idea. We ended up ordering one to take home, it was that good! I ordered the Fisherman's Pie, which I can best describe as a seafood version of a Shepherd's pie, without the pastry crust. It was great. Shrimp and scallops, baked with a garlic cream sauce, potatoes, seasonal vegetables and a blend of cheeses. Really tasty. But, to be thoroughly transparent, I enjoyed the moussaka a little bit more. Both times we visited, we order dessert, which was great. I think my favorite was the Deconstructed Baklava. Now, on to the cocktails. Or more appropriately, cocktail (singular). On our first trip, I tried the Underworld Manhattan. Awesome! How there aren't any pictures of this cocktail on Yelp! yet is beyond me (I'm about to rectify that). Fig-infused bourbon, sweet vermouth and orange bitters. The second time we visited, my wife and I both had one! The drink was crafted in-house by Samantha. You should definitely try one at Akres. All in all, this is a fabulous restaurant on the Columbia riverfront, one of the best we've been to in a long time on the peninsula or Astoria area!
