    Inside on a rainy Sunday.

I'm going to go out on the tiniest of limbs here and say that Broder Strand is the best restaurant in Astoria. I'm measuring "best" here primarily in terms of the food quality. Sure, it's only a breakfast and brunch spot. I don't care. The food is outstanding--better than the best dinner spots in town. A lot of restaurants start out strong, but after six months or a year, as their initial enthusiasm wanes, their quality slips. Not Broder. Broder has been open in Astoria for a few years now, and their food remains consistently top notch. I've eaten here many times (I come here almost every Sunday) and have never had a mediocre meal let alone a bad one. Unique (for the US) Scandinavian flavors, artfully presented. House made goodies like corned beef. Incredible sauces. Pleasant, attentive service. It's great. You can't go wrong here.

Visiting Astoria for the first time my wife found this spot on the drive over from Portland and, well, I'm quite proud because she found an absolute gem along the coast. Broder Strand is a Norwegian/Danish/Scandinavian/Something restaurant serving up some seriously good food. It's a shame we could only eat there once during our trip as we continued down the coast. We ordered the pancakes with syrup and lingonberry and mushroom sandwich and while the pancakes were absolutely delicious, I am RAVING about this mushroom sandwich. It is no doubt one of the top 5 or so single items I've ordered in the past year. Seriously tasty. So much so that I had to stop back in before we left to complement the staff. Mushroom gravy with, of course mushrooms, fresh biscuit bread, and greens and eggs leave you feeling nourished but not overly full. If you're in the area this is a must-get. If you're not in the area it's worth a trip just for the sandwich. Incredible!

Scandinavian influence abound here in both décor and the food choices. Cool vibe, open café-style dining. It was busy the whole time I was there. When you walk in, they don't seat you. You order and pay at the counter before you sit. I got the Lost Egg with shrooms, and was surprised how much I liked the creaminess with the spinach. The eggs added a nice balance, as did the crumbs on top. Hearty bread, like the type I had in Denmark when I was an exchange student my last term in college. Dining there flooded me with memories of Arhus.

This place is amazing!!! The Dutch pancakes were delicious (get them with the lemon curd), and the lavender latte was one of the best coffees I've ever had. The service was quick and friendly, and the atmosphere was peaceful. Will absolutely go back the next time I'm in Astoria!

Great place. Looks like they are listed twice on Yelp - Broder and Broder Strand. Same location. We stopped in for lunch today. We were really happy with everything. We shared the Grilled Roast Beef Dip. Excellent. You could drink the Au Jus. I really enjoyed the Ham Benedict - "Smoked ham, 2 poached eggs, seared tomatoes, grain mustard, hollandaise & chives on toasted levain bread." The smoked ham was tasty! Not the best selection of drinks for me, but my wife enjoyed the Mimosa. I suspect we'll be back to try more items!

Had both Maple Syrup and Lemon Curd. Both were excellent.

Loved the atmosphere, nice spot to people watch. Very clean and good drinks as well. The service was fast and the employees all seemed to love their jobs!!!

Came in on the busy Labour Day weekend. We were seated right away. Wait for food was a little bit long, but we like the experience overall: food was good, coffee also not bad at all. We will be back.

Exceptional food in a cute spot that used to be a beloved coffee house. Had the Bloody Mary, cardamom cream latte, Lost Egg and "egg sandwich". While I take issue with calling something that can't be picked up a "sandwich", it was absolutely delicious along with everything else. Easy to get into on a weekday morning.

I have tried Broder Strand three times in a week. The Scandinavian decor and careful attention to details are so charming. Everything is picture perfect and a great use of this historic building. I am unfamiliar with most Scandinavian food. I was excited to try their abelskivvers, but I can say they are the worst ones I have ever had. Very dense and heavy. The presentation of all the dishes was amazing. I wanted to try everything. If I lived closer to Astoria I would keep coming back for the cardamom latte. It was the best one I have ever tasted. Their coffee has a nice smooth finish. The customer service was great from most of the staff. There was only one staff member on my third visit who didn't smile and seemed put off by our indecisiveness. The other staff were cheery and helpful.

Love this cute spot! My favorite dish is the Danish pancakes, which I get with a side of bacon, and a Chai latte to drink. Yum!

I stumbled across Goondocks Bistro while I was in town and decided to give it a try. From the moment we sat down, the waitress was incredibly friendly and patient. She made me feel welcome and checked in at the right times without being overbearing. Honestly, service like that goes a long way, and she absolutely earned a 5 out of 5 for service. As for the food, I ordered the ribs and brisket. The ribs were a bit over-seasoned for my taste -- the flavor was strong but a little overpowering. The brisket, unfortunately, was too dry to my liking. I was hoping for something juicy and tender, but it didn't quite deliver. Overall, I just wasn't a fan of the BBQ here. I'd give the food a 2 out of 5. The atmosphere was decent -- nothing particularly over-the-top, but comfortable enough for a casual meal. Since I just happened to find this place while in town, it felt like a solid local spot to try, even if the food didn't wow me. I'd give the atmosphere a 3 out of 5. I'd have to say that bite for bite the fish itself might be the best in the county by a hair, but the full entree lags just behind Battery 245 and Ship Out in terms of fry / coleslaw quality, aesthetics, and overall value. But neither of those places are on the Astoria waterfront with million dollar views, so that's to be expected. If you're craving fish and chips with a view in downtown Astoria, don't hesitate to order them here, the fish was phenomenal.

When we got our menus and the waiter came, I asked about the sides that we can order because those were on the menu. The waiter said, well, we can pretty much make anything a side. That wasn't very helpful. We took a while to decide. When we came back, he pushed us to order something, so we did. I order a salad with salmon. My daughter order veggie kabobs and her best friend ordered a loaded potato. The food 30 minutes to get out. My daughter friend started drinking her soda and it had no carbonation. When the food came, my salmon was cold - it was precooked and just taken out of the fridge straight to the salad. The loaded potato wasn't fully cooked. The kabobs - some of the potatoes were super mushy, while others were fully cooked through and they tasted like lemons. Very tart. Some of the veggies weren't cooked - it was like eating raw veggies - this meal costed $30. When I mentioned this to the waiter, he had a very confused faced. He then stated, I thought I pressed the carbonation button with the soda... huh.. I've worked in the restaurant industry for years. I know that's not how that works. The waiter took off the drinks from the bill - $6.00 and nothing else was said or done about the undercooked food. Very disappointed all around and will never go back again after that.
