Had dinner early on Saturday evening. The hostess was very friendly and we had a nice table overlooking the river. The food, however, was mediocre and rather expensive since the menu is all a la carte. The Caesar salad was passable but the restaurant charged an extra $2 for anchovies. The walleye was only fair and at $26 for only the fish, wild rice mix and 3 spears of asparagus was over priced. There was some good bread but no relish tray found at most establishments in the area. Although there are a limited number of better quality restaurants in Eagle River, you can do far better in the Northwoods! read more

We had our "last night at camp" celebratory dinner here this past weekend. We had seen great food reviews, so thought this would be a good way to say goodbye to Eagle River. Most of our dinners were great. Our service started out somewhat poorly, on an uncrowded evening- I think our waitress was somewhat new, as she didn't have great answers to our questions. She took our drink order and disappeared, and took her time to come back and take our dinner order, although she seemed busy with her 2 other tables (but the other waiters seemed less stressed with more tables). Once our dinner order was placed, service got much better, and it felt like we got more attention. Two of our party had the Walleye, that they raved about. They also loved the Wisconsin wild rice. Two of our party had the stir fry - the chicken version was cooked with teriyaki that was not to anybody's liking. The shrimp version was much better, especially since it was ordered w/o garlic, and was still tasty. The pork tenderloin was okay (a little dry) but the accompanying butternut squash ravioli with apple cream sauce was phenomenal! The final dinner was beef with a cheese sauce and wine sauce split in the middle - more raves! Final blueberry cheesecake was sublime. So our rough start ended well!j read more

What a lovely surprise this place was! We were tired and hungry after a day out and about, and stopped here on a whim. Great decision! The food was terrific and the service quick, pleasant but not invasively chummy. We look forward to another chance to dine here and try more things on the enticing menu. read more

We just returned from a rather disappointing dinner at the Riverstone. It was a special occasion (anniversary) and we had dined there many times before so we had every expectation that it would be the right way to celebrate. Wrong. Having checked Yelp we saw that several recent reviewers had complained of very long waits. We are used to variability in service during the high tourist season in northern Wisconsin so we did not make much of it. Hey, you are no hurry so no worry, right? Again, wrong. Riverstone does not take reservations, so when we were told at arrival it would be 30 minutes, no problem. It was actually a bit less than that. Meanwhile we enjoyed a decent veggie/hummus as appetizers and a couple well prepared cocktails. The time from order to served meals was in excess of 45 minutes. At least three tables that were seated after us were served before us. When we finally were served my wife's pork with squash ravioli was very good. My planked salmon was fair, though somewhat overdone and dry. At $34 I had higher expectations. The accompanying risotto was gloppy thick and overpowered with cheese. The mixed steamed vegetables we both had were ok if bland and unremarkable. But here's the thing that added insult to injury. Our waitress, Melissa, neither explained the special for the night nor offered dessert. No problem. But after we had waited the 45+ minutes to be served, and while we waited 10 more for our check she spent 5-10 minutes in conversation with a friend/customer as we sat just wanting to leave. She offered no apology when I finally went to her to say we were finished and would like the check. I don't like giving Riverstone three stars. It is a nice place with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and a very accommodating owner. Hopefully tonight was an exception, but I will be hard pressed to recommend it unless it improves on our next visit. read more

There are very few options for upscale dining and this is not one I would recommend. Food is over priced and not that great. Bland and steaks are tough and without flavor. Service is so-so. read more

We were here on a busy Friday night. Staff was scurrying around. We felt fortunate to be seated without too long a wait. Menu has an interesting variety from sandwiches and salads to fancier dinners. Large wine and beer selection. Vegan choices. My husband enjoyed the walleye which was lightly coated and pan fried, served with wild and brown rice mix. I went with the veal wellington which was a wonderful puff pastry filled with tender veal, mushroom pate and a soft cheese. Paired with the Yukon mashed and fresh crisp green beans. Overall, food was great with pleasant decor, but a little pricey $$$. Would definitely come here again. read more

We were pleasantly surprised with Riverstone. The selections at the restaurant were so much better than I would expect in a small town. The was also a wonderful outdoor patio. We really enjoyed the multi-grain flax seed bread and the house grape oil. My walleye with wild rice was also very tasty. We would definitely dine there again next time we are in the area. read more

Absolutely terrible. I got a stir fry with "grilled chicken" on sticky rice. The vegetables were clearly just armed up and included red onion for some reason with a sauce with vinegar The chicken was straight from a bag of chicken strips with no sign of being cooked on sight. The worst was the sticky rice that was warmed up and soupy. No one with any palette would have tolerated this. read more

My wife go here quite a bit and they always have a great selection of wine to select from. The food is wonderful and the homemade bread is a real treat! They have quite an extensive menu to choose from and we have always had a great dining experience. Great pizza, ribs, Friday fish, and the Riverstone soup is definitely worth trying. read more

We had an excellent meal here! The food was delicious and the service was great. Enjoyed the homemade breads. I had the out if this world haddock and my husband had the pesto. Both were amazing! Highly recommend read more

The first trip was a 5, the most recent trip was a 1, so I give it a 3. Very nice waitpeople and bartenders. The host (maybe the owner???) is delightful. Food inconsistent and can take forever. But delicious appetizers and nice decor, restaurant relaxing, room by bar-not so much. read more

Wine selection good. Bad service, and a very odd dining area that is REALLY loud if it is a weekend night. Not really kid friendly.

This USED to be a good restaurant. Food has gone downhill. Service is mediocre. I have tried Riverstone Several times over the last couple of years hoping that they have straightened themselves out. Nope. Not even close. My husband ordered a risotto and you couldn't even discern there was rice in the dish. It resembled and tasted like baby food. When brought up to the waitress, she offered to have them remake the dish, but who wants to wait 30 minutes more? My dish was tasteless. I have learned. Three times you're out, Riverstone. A previous visit we were "ignored" at the bar while the bartenders served the locals. Until one of the locals refused to be served until they waited on me and my friends. I am up in the Eagle River area every weekend in the summer and at least once a month in the fall/winter. I think the owner needs to get his head out of his you know what and figure out where his money is coming from. I'm done. read more

On a previous occasion about a month ago my wife and I enjoyed a pleasant evening and fine dinner at the Riverstone. Not so last night! A party of four, my wife, sister, brother in law and I, had what I must characterize as at best a very mediocre, and at worst a just plain bad dinning expereance. Although a round of cocktails at the bar was pleasant enough our food order which I'll call eclectic (Prime Rib, Pork Loin, Wall Eye Pike and Sausage Medoly) was clearly unsatisfactory. The Prime Rib would have been OK if it hadn't been served cold. A Vegatable Medoly which came with the Wall Eye, Pork Loin and Sausage left lots to be desired. It functioned mainly as colorful plate filler. The Wall Eye had clearly swam much to long. The Pork Loin was over done, tuff and cold. But the "coup de grace" was the Sausage dish. There were three types of Sausage served over the sourist sauer kraut I ever tasted. One of the Sausage varieties was so tuff it could not be cut with serrated steak knife and the other two were way to salty. We spoke with owner about our issues and received only platitudes in reply. We were not looking to be comped, but were somewhat surprised when none was even offered. read more

My husband and I ATTEMPTED to eat here for a rare "date day" for lunch. I have driven past many times and was really excited to dine at the establishment. Upon arrival, there were about 3 tables seated on the patio and 1 other table in the dining room. That being said, it took about 10 minutes for our waitress to even greet us and take our drink order. It then took about another 10 minutes to receive our drink. We ordered our food and also an appetizer of sweet potato fries with sweet chili sauce. After waiting over 35 minutes for our appetizer, we attempted to find our waitress. We finally decided to just go to the bar and tell them we were leaving when the waitress appeared. We explained our dissatisfaction, to which she responded with a minimal apology and "we only have 2 people in the kitchen and just had a big rush." Perhaps they have a hidden room in the back where there was a large group of people, but there was no "rush" any where in the restaurant. You can see the kitchen from the bar, and there wasn't any "rushing" in the kitchen, either. She then, gladly took our money for our sodas - not offering anything else. It was a total waste of time and extremely disappointing. Our recommendation is to not visit this establishment and give your support and money to the other restaurants in the area who actually care about the customer. read more
