The ambiance is a typical north woods bar, you can either eat at the bar or sit at one of the tables in their 'dining room' which houses the slot machines, dart board, and a few other games for kids. They have a wide selection of brews on tap, and have a full bar. The thing that I really love about this place is that everyone who works here is extremely nice. You can tell they love what they do, they're proud of where they live, and they have great senses of humor. Just overall great conversationalists. Now to the food, my favorite part: For appetizers, you HAVE to try their jalapeño poppers. They're the best poppers I've ever had. I believe they are coated in potato breading and they have an awesome zing to them. Never had a popper like it and I'll always compare others to the ones at Timbers. For lunch/dinner, their hamburgers are incredible as well. Super juicy smash burgers on a fluffy bun with the best French fries in the world. A perfect pick me up during snowmobile season or on a nice summer day. On Friday, this is THE spot for fish fry. My family and I have tried so many fish fry places over the year trying to find our favorite, and each time we stray we always leave disappointed wishing we would've just got Timbers instead. To me, what makes their fish fry so great is their portions are extremely generous, you get 4 pieces of fish, a handful of fries, two slices of buttered rye bread, coleslaw, tartar sauce, and a lemon wedge. The way their fish is prepared and battered is my favorite. It doesn't have that super thick, almost pancake batter like breading that tastes like a corn dog. Instead it's very lightly breaded so that it's fish forward with a nice crunch. This is just my preference, but to me, it's the best fish fry I've ever had. I genuinely love this place so much, but I must say that it's obviously super crowded and loud during the tourist seasons. Instead of paying ~$20 plus what the additional 3 toppings cost we ended up paying $50 plus for a 15" pizza because each ingredient was itemized separately. Ridiculous! Our first bad experience involved burgers that were ordered medium to medium-well but came out burnt. Three burgers - all burnt! We literally had to cut the burnt portions off before eating them. We showed our server, who brought the owner over (she was in the kitchen that day and responsible for the burnt burgers). Instead of apologizing or showing any concern, the owner approached us aggressively and asked, "Why are you complaining?" After seeing the burgers, her response was simply, "What do you want? A new burger or this off your bill?" (table of 5, and 4/5 of us are service industry). For someone who has owned restaurants, I know mistakes happen, but the way customers are treated afterward matters. That interaction was far more disappointing than the overcooked burgers. We decided to give them another chance, and somehow this visit was even worse. We had a party of 11 (9 of us are service industry people) and found a way to seat ourselves (suggested by staff to find seats) and asked nearby table if we could borrow two unused chairs. The owner immediately came over, took the chairs back, and said, "I can't lose a four-top." Meanwhile, we were a paying party of 11, and that four-top remained occupied by the same two guests throughout our visit (perhaps the owner skipped BUS 101 or just doesn't do math well). Much less, a disappointing way to treat a large group of customers. Drinks. Appetizers. Meals. Easy $400 + tip. The service was incredibly slow. Of course we understand- it's a Friday night in the Northwoods. However, It took about 30 minutes just to receive our first drinks, while the other tables received theirs. Our appetizers didn't arrive until roughly 45 minutes later while we watched everyone around us get drinks & food. Our server told us she'd be back in three minutes to take our food order, but after another 30 minutes, I had to find her so she could take our order from my phone. We ordered another round of drinks, watched nearly every other table on the patio receive their food and drinks before us, and then decided to go indoors to grab our drinks from very friendly bartenders. They were great!!!! 90 minutes later, we were still waiting for our meal. I walked over to our server and politely asked when we could expect our food, since every other table around us had already been served - she said ours was "next" and blamed us for the wait time because we ordered two pizzas with the seven other meals. Instead of checking on our order or apologizing for the delay, the owner confronted me and told us we needed to leave. She said that her employees felt uncomfortable and that she was offended because I had approached her with my phone and asked about the status of our order. Normal to ask - not normal for customers to find their server in the restaurant to ask. After she kicked us out, she wanted us to pay for our one round of drinks and three apps. As an owner, if I'm kicking someone out - I don't want their money - I just want them to leave, lol. After waiting over an hour and a half for food that never arrived, being asked to leave for simply inquiring about our order was something I've never experienced in all my years of dining out or owning restaurants. Everyone can have an off day, but we've now had multiple poor interactions with the owner. The consistent issues have been the owner's attitude, extremely slow service, and a lack of respect for customers. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but after giving this place multiple chances, I feel it's only fair to let others know what they may experience before deciding to dine here.

What was frustrating was that by 9:30 PM, while all 8 of us were still there drinking and spending money, the staff started making comments about how they were closing and we could only get one more drink. If you advertise that your bar is open until 11 PM(sign outside even says bowling is open until 11), customers shouldn't be made to feel unwelcome an hour and a half before closing, especially when you have a group of paying customers. Also minimum of 8 more people came in and got turned away for a drink. I completely understand closing early if business is dead, but when you have 8 people sitting there actively ordering drinks, it's pretty disappointing to feel like you're an inconvenience. We would have happily stayed, continued ordering, and tipped well. Unfortunately, the experience made us feel like our business wasn't wanted.
