We've been here several times (both summer and winter) and will continue to come back every time we get to visit Eagle River. Not only have we never had a bad meal, the service is always SO nice and WOW do they work hard. The past two visits they have, like many places, been unfortunately understaffed but the servers were hustling and handling the large groups very well. My grandma has lived in the area for 40-plus years and this has recently turned into her favorite place for a Friday fish fry. Since I don't argue with my grandma, it's five stars for Buckshot's. It's not a huge place, so you'll either have to come early in the busy season or you'll have to wait. That's maybe the main downfall, but fortunately my grandma likes to eat early. Their old fashioneds are good and they have a decent beer list with a nice variety from in-state breweries. The main reason you visit Buckshot's is their fish fry, which is just smart. It's not all-you-can-eat, but it's pick how much you want to eat. Instead of getting a ton of fish you aren't going to finish, you can order how many walleye fingers you want or how much cod or perch you want. On top of that, you gotta get their sweet potato fries. It's fine if you get there at 5pm when you visit because I'll be there at 4:45pm. read more

My husband was there yesterday, saturday. He was so so impressed with the place. I believe there was one young woman there and she was managing quite a crowd. We know across the nation there are staffing issues. So challenging. It is truly a challenge. He so appreciated the service. He had a drink but not food. But we have heard from our relatives who live there that it is a great place. My family have been going to Phelps WI for well over 120 plus years. Curds, soup, burger, fried fish were all really yummy, and served piping hot right out of the kitchen. Huge beer selection. Super-friendly & helpful waitress gave us great recommendations and was patient with our questions. TVs weren't too loud. Looks like a really big outdoor area too that we didn't try. We're hoping next time they are more COVID-cautious. While there were booths with plexiglass partitions and hand sanitizer available, we were the only ones in the place with masks - no staff had them. So we'll only be coming back if we know we can sit outside, or really early in the day when there's no big game on :( read more

Used to dine here once a week. Used to. Until one day I ordered a medium rare steak sandwich with onion rings. The meal arrived and the onion rings were so drenched in grease that the breading hardly even stuck to it. I proceeded to cut my sandwich in half (for easier eating) and I couldn't hardly cut. So I checked out the steak. It was raw. I am not a complainer, but I cannot eat cold literally raw meat.. So I asked the waitress if they wouldn't mind just throwing it back on the grill to cook it a little longer, no big deal I told her. She brought it in the back and about 10 minutes later she returned. Great, time to bite in.. Nope! Nothing had been done!!! My steak was still ice cold and raw!!! They had actually done nothing about it. At this point I am familiar with the workers there, including the owners son, Daniel. I asked Daniel to come over and look at my sandwich. His response: "That's how buckshots does it" I told him that it was raw & inedible and that I wasn't going to eat it that way. He proceeded to hand me my bill then!!! I am not confrontational and I felt I was easy going about the situation so I paid for my completely uneaten meal and left. We stopped in the other day after a long travel day. It was snowy, dark and cold in Eagle River. This place was lit up bright, very sharp looking inside and clean. Waitress was alone, but did a good job. Rather stoic. We both had the fried chicken meal. Corn was canned. Whatever. Mashed potatoes were real and great. Gravy was really good too. Thick and savory. I'm a coleslaw connesuir: this one was pretty good. I prefer vinegar, but creamy fit the meal. Chicken was slightly underseasoned, but moist, crispy and piping hot. I just added a bit of salt and it was great. You get a half bird. For $11, the meal was filling and delicious. And this place was about the only place open on a Monday in the winter in the area. read more

I never send food back, but this was really bad. the menu said it was a1/4 lb burglar, but the manager said it was a 1/3 lb burger & the cooks could not control the way it was cooled how can you not cook a 1/3 lb burger medium rare? I do it all the time with ours. The server never came to see if we needed more drinks or anything else. But she managed to to ask the tables next to us as well as the one behind us. they basically ignored us. I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGGAIN! I am not a tourist, I live in Eagle River. This place was excellent, got in, got seated, and got served! Not to mention they have the most amazing Brandy old fashioned! Fish fry was extremely good, crispy batter with juicy fish inside. Was walking through the downtown eagle river and stopped in for a Bloody Mary which was so delicious!!!! So much flavor. The food looked delicious, great atmosphere. Everyone working was so friendly and actually had conversations with you, even the customers, makes you feel like a little family. The owner is so nice and down to earth very nice lady. We were visiting from out of town for the holiday as we do every year, and tried out Buckshots for the first time. From the time we arrived, the customer service was absolutely awful. Right after we arrived, the bartender told me I couldn't sit at the end of the bar while we waited for our table (on wait list 1 hr and 20 min) because the waitress picked up drinks from that area, and then I watched 3 others sit in that same place without being told to move. Our waitress was absolutely rude and ignored us for over 20 min once we were seated. We cleared the table ourselves and washed it before she arrived to take our order. While waiting to be acknowledged, we watched several parties leave as they were treated poorly or ignored too. We ordered the pizza (meh), patty melt (okay), and smoked meats. The ribs were absolutely delicious and the cornbread muffins yummy. From the time we arrived to the time we left, the experience lasted nearly four hours. If you don't mind being ignored and disrespected, waiting a long time to be taken care of, and cleaning your own space, Buckshots in Eagle River is the place for you. The service was the worst I've seen in a very long time, and we go out a lot. Would not recommend. Will not be back. read more

Stopped in to check out the new digs. Place was nice and the bartenders very friendly. Their sign outside saying best burgers is no joke, bruh. We ordered the shaved prime rib sandwich, the ground brisket burger, curds, onion rings and homemade chips. The o-rings were good, chips good, curds were meh, prime rib sandwich was pretty damn good but the star of this show was the burger. My boyfriend ordered it as is, which is raw onions and pickles-nothing else. This was the best damn burger my lips have ever graced. That says a lot considering there was NO CHEESE (but there is an option to add). I don't remember prices other than very reasonable. Do not pass on this place and do yourself a solid-get a burger! Wow stop by to get a burger. We were pleasantly surprised. My husband had a pizza and I had the Seared tuna with salad. Pizza was so good but the tuna with salad was off the hook. It was served with a sesame sauce, I had it done rare to med rare. Done perfectly. We sat at the bar the bartender treated us with great conversation. The outside patio bar was not open but will be soon, can't wait to watch a baseball game and grab a burger in the future. I did take photos but we already started eating. Sorry it was so good.
