Finally tried this place for lunch, after reading about how good their burgers are! Good news....it did not disappoint. It's a cute little 'up north' bar with a few tables. Signs on the tables say to order at the bar, but during my visit the bartender came over and took our order. Service was prompt & efficient. My guest and I each ordered a burger. I got the make your own burger with American cheese and fried onions. My guest had the snowshoe burger. Both were served with fries. The burgers were juicy and full of flavor. The cheese was a generous slice. I loved the fried onions. The fries were crispy. Perfect, good sized portions. Looking forward to coming back and trying other items on their menu....or maybe just for another one of those burgers! read more

Whitman's is a longtime local bar and grill in Hazelhurst. I've been driving by since we purchased our local property in town 35 years ago. For a variety of reasons, last night was the first time we stopped in for a burger and beer. I'm sure it won't be the last. Orders for food and drinks are placed at the bar. You can eat at the bar or one of several tables just off to the side. Food and drinks are cash only and the kitchen doesn't have the capacity to serve groups larger than six to eight. They have a small but decent selection of tap beer and of course a full bar. The burger I ordered was as good as any I've had at a local bar and grill -- thick, juicy, topped with cheese, onions, mushrooms, and a tasty (though generic) BBQ sauce. An ample amount of fries (skin on) completed the basket. They offer a number of set combinations or you can "build your own" with any of the ingredients they stock in the kitchen. I might not be a regular--I only occasionally indulge in burgers like these--but I'll come back for another, hopefully sooner than 35 years from now. read more

Service. Terrible. The bartender was inattentive and did not want to talk to us at all. Everything he said was while walking away. Wings were okay but not worth going back. Not sure how this place stays open if every person that tries it gets treated this that. read more

Tasty wings with lots of flavor choices on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Beers on tap, bottles and a full cocktail bar selection. It's a go to spot if you are in the Northwoods. read more

After seeing that Whitman's won "Northwoods Best Burger" contest... we had to try ! Huge bar and lots of dining area room. We sat at the bar and received excellent service. We ordered two of their burgers. The burgers came out very quickly. Pros- Burger patty itself was absolutely delicious. Thick and juicy. Really fresh tasting meat. Outstanding! The caramelized onions and mushrooms were out of this world as well. Perfectly cooked and with a little char. Overall an OUTSTANDING burger. Cons- they accidentally put the wrong cheese on our burgers. We were supposed to have each others cheese but it wasn't a big deal. Still delicious. The fries were soggy and undercooked but the bartender acknowledged it without us saying anything and asked if we wanted new ones. Not going to hold it against them. Can't wait to go back for another drink & burger ! read more

CASH ONLY (atm inside). My hubby and I love to stop at places on the motorcycle and we decided to take a trip to Minoqua. This place had awesome reviews so, why not? We loved it! I had the BLT and my husband had their burger with the bourbon glaze. Very affordable, staff and local clientele gave us great conversation. What to know: it's easy to drive by, so keep an eye out. If you like corned beef & cabbage, this is the place! Being Irish I grew up eating this every year and think I do it super well myself. I've also had it in restaurants but...this was the best I ever ate. The corned beef was melt in your mouth tender, the cabbage, carrots, and red potatoes were cooked perfectly. They included a side of creamy horseradish which I feel is a necessity and there was a little green cookie on the plate. Awesome Saint Patrick's Day dinner. You've got to try it! read more

It's a bar. We are expecting to see a bit bigger menu based on the previous reviews. No burgers. Just wings and few others. No fries with sandwiches, only store bought cheap chips. So, I'm guessing it was winter only menu??? The wings were really good though. I wish we knew "spicy garlic" means "REALLY SPICY garlic". I felt like my lips and tongue are double in size for the next hour or so. Blue cheese dressing was 5 star! Biggest chunk of blue cheese I've ever found in a dressing! Celery sticks were fresh too. I got the mad town blue burger and it's one of the best burgers I've ever had! My boyfriend got the brew city burger and it was gone in seconds. Perfect place to go after a long day of snowmobiling! Do not let the exterior fool you. It's dark and uninviting, but the burgers are worth it! I ordered the the Cajun black and blue. Done perfectly at a medium. It's a local place and they know what's best. read more

Classic Northwoods bar and grill. Best hamburgers in the area (I always get the Freddie Jr). Well known for their chicken wings also. Easy in and out on hwy 51 in Hazelhurst. Good inexpensive fish fry on fridays. Many of the patrons are local which says a lot about the place. read more

We stopped in for some burgers on a Tuesday. It was 4:30. We ordered drinks and asked if we could get some food. We were told "we're not serving til 5." There were other people eating. We said let us know when we can order. The cook overheard us and told the bartender he would cook to take our order. She gave us menus and apparently chicken wings bbq pork and hot ham and cheese was all they would serve. The lunch menu was over.... She told us to go to Hazelhurst Pub. Way to turn away business limiting your menu!!! read more
