We consistently have great service and food here. Tonight we had the prime rib and shrimp scampi. We also tried the escargot for the first time here, and it was fantastic! The prime rib was perfectly seasoned and melted in your mouth. The shrimp scampi sauce was super flavorful with excellent jumbo shrimp. The restaurant is really cute inside with a nice bar and a big deck with outside seating overlooking Half Moon Lake. We also love their Friday night fish fry, the old fashioneds, and ice cream drinks. After living in Minnesota years ago we have not been in a Wisconsin Supper Club for a very long time. Traveling from Minneapolis through Wisconsin on our way home to Ohio we found ourselves in Tomahawk, WI. Using YELP to find the best restaurants in the area we decided to try the Birch Supper Club which was ranked as the # 1 restaurant in the area. The Silver Birch Supper Club was more than what we hoped to find. The food was spectacular and the employees were so kind and helpful (my wife has some serious health problems). Our server, Oriana, was extremely kind and understanding. Being in Wisconsin I felt obligated to order a Brandy Old Fashioned, and it was one of the best drinks I have ever had! Hats off to you ma'am. We live in Cincinnati, but we are already encouraging our daughters to bring their families to the Tomahawk area and to go to the Silver Birch Supper Club on vacation. Everything you want from a supper club! One of the best old fashions I've gotten from a restaurant in a long time. Tastes just like I make em at home. I ordered the cod fish fry with hash browns and couldn't rave about them more. Very flavorful breading on the fish. Service was so friendly, attentive, and kind. Enjoyed an early Friday night fish fry here. Upon arrival, the host asked if we'd like to have a drink at the bar first or be seated. I thought that was a nice touch. My guest and I opted to be seated. There were drink specials on a sign in the bar and food specials on a sign in the restaurant. Service was very prompt and friendly. We saw all staff working together seamlessly. Our server provided me with a menu of their drink specials when I inquired about what I saw on the board. I got the Carmel apple martini, which was amazing. There was caramel in the glass and the cocktail was served with a cinnamon cookie. I love cookies, so I was instantly sold. At $8, this was a bargain. My guest had a beer. We both ordered their standard fish fry ($14). I got mine with a baked potato with sour cream and my guest opted for the hash browns. The dinners were excellent and the attention to small details was noteworthy. The fish was tender and lightly battered. The tartar sauce was homemade and seasoned with dill. The cole slaw was fresh and well seasoned. My baked potato was cut open and perfectly cooked. My guest enjoyed the hash browns. We were also served some bread, but I was too full to try it. We were originally going to order an appetizer, but glad we didn't given how filling our meals were. Tables around us were getting ribs, shrimp, and chicken. Those dinners are served with a choice of soup or salad. All meals we saw around us looked delicious. I'm told they also serve a great Sunday brunch, which I hope to try out soon. Been here many times either as a couple or bringing friends up for a visit. Nice ambiance and better food. Never been disappointed. The appetizers are also excellent. Came here to celebrate my birthday; I like to try supper clubs. The dining area is nicely decorated, but I was a little disappointed that the view of the lake is only available from the bar. Staff is extremely friendly. We were greeted immediately upon entering and asked if we wanted to start at the bar or in the dining room. We said the dining room and they see seated us immediately. My husband was pretty disappointed when the server immediately told us that they were out of ribeye, sirloin strip and the larger filet-- exactly what he hoped to order. Apparently they had a very busy weekend and it was a Monday night. He opted for the Cajun walleye. I tried the stuffed green pepper soup, which was quite tasty. Reminded me of a very light chili with a slight sweetness. Hubby chose the salad and was a little disappointed that it was very small & mostly romaine core. (He loves a good salad).The hot yeast rolls were fabulous, although hubby's was burned on the bottom. (Poor guy can't get a break!) The Cajun walleye was a hit as well as the bang bang shrimp. The shrimp were very meaty with a wonderfully crisp coating. The baked potatoes were done well and not so huge which I like. The server checked with us just often enough to make sure we had everything we needed. Again, the staff was outstanding. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. And the bill was certainly reasonable. First time in the Northwoods and first time at a Supper Club. Finding the location and parking were both super easy. Arrived on a Friday around 530pm for the fish fry. Wait time was an hour. Think they had some big parties, so wait time was understandable. Seemed to have a good mix of locals and tourists. Drank a couple brandy old fashioneds sweet with cherry garnish (they also carry mushroom and olive garnishes as well) at the bar. There was also a maple old fashioned served there with local Wisconsin maple. GF kept raving about how amazing the maple old fashioned was. Full Bar maybe had 10 seats. Once seated ordered the escargot as appetizer. I order the fish fry. They use cod. I was debating about adding an additional piece as it comes with 2 pieces. But I didn't. 2 pieces was enough. I also added a bowl of chowder. GF ordered a ribeye and damn that steak was a good size and cooked to her medium rare liking. I think it came with both a side and a side salad. The food was spot on and delicious. Visit this place. No frills...but still super cool and a great experience. Attentive and friendly staff. read more

Classic "Supper Clubs" are ubiquitous in Wisconsin. In fact, a local filmmaker has produced a documentary about "Wisco" supper clubs and an author has written a "coffee table" book about them, complete with dozens of full color photos. I don't know if the Silver Birch Supper Club is mentioned in either the movie or the book, but it could be because it is as traditional as they come. From it's location on a lake, to the wood paneled walls, to the strings of twinkly mini-lights on the ceiling, to the bar and drinks, to the menu, everything screams, "This IS a Supper Club!" My only problem with supper clubs is that virtually 100% of them are average when it comes to decor, food and service. But maybe that is okay, because no true supper club is shooting to provide cutting edge, "haute cuisine" for its clientele. Wisconsin supper clubs are about comfort and familiarity. Supper clubs are about getting together with family and friends for a brandy old fashioned sweet and a meat or fish centric dinner. And after that, it's time to finish off the evening with an "ice cream" drink. We started our evening at the bar. I ordered a dry gin martini, straight up with an olive. It was properly mixed, well chilled and even with top shelf gin the price was reasonable. While we enjoyed our drinks and conversation we looked over the menu. The bartender suggested that we place our order from the bar and when our appetizer was ready we could go to the table -- which worked well for us. We started the evening with a plate of walleye cheeks, lightly breaded and served with a house made dipping sauce. The tender, tasty morsels were a good start -- though I would have appreciated it if the breading was a tad crispier. For my entree I selected their braised pork shank served with Brussels sprouts and bacon, glazed with a maple syrup sauce. The pork was "fall off the bone" tender and moist with just the right amount of fattiness. The bacon in the sauce added good flavor but it was rather flaccid -- a sprinkling of crispy bacon would have added some much needed texture. Pork and sweet sauces go together well, but it is easy to over do it and end up with a "one note" dish like this one. By the end of the meal the richness of the meat and sweetness of the glaze were over powering my palate as well as neutering the slight but pleasant bitterness of the sprouts. Still, all in all it was a good concept, something different, and I enjoyed it. My wife ordered a vegetarian Pad Thai pasta which she reports was very good. And give the Silver Birch Supper Club two thumbs up for having some vegetarian options on the menu -- especially as I've already noted that supper club menus tend to feature meat. I was so full that I skipped the ice cream drink. Maybe next time! read more

Stopped on a Friday night with a group of 6. Seated promptly. The waitress was very friendly and took our drink orders right away. The interior was wonderfully decorated and cozy feeling ! Food was all 4/5 stars! Very good but was lacking that extra memorable edge to make it a 5/5 meal. The clam chowder specifically was amazing ! Huge chunks of clam and delicious flavor. Everything was very good but lacking that extra oomph to put it in the AMAZING range. Only complaint was that we waited over an hour to get our food. The waitress was very apologetic and gave us free drinks to compensate. All in all. A nice 4 star northwoods dining experience. read more

Way over priced for a Sysco Pre-Cooked low grade Prime Rib dinner. I so wanted this to be a great meal and walked away so so disappointed. I am a critacal diner and wasn't looking to be wowed rather just fulfilled. If your gonna be a supper club you have to have real prime rib. My family of four came to the Silver Birch on a Saturday night. The service was very good, and making a reservation online was easy and saved us from waiting at the bar for a table. Unfortunately, the food was bad to mediocre for the prices charged. My son's Orange Whiskey Duck was dry, my husband's orange coconut shrimp was just OK, and my Thai peanut pasta was awful. It was noodles swimming (well, immersed) in a thin sauce tasting vaguely of peanuts, topped with Asian Vegetable Medley (like you would buy at a grocery store). Went here on a Friday night around 6:15 and it was packed. Exactly what we were expecting. That being said the wait was pretty quick. It's a small space, so expect to wait, but they had the patio open so more people could be seated. We waited about 30 minutes. Our waitress was great! She had the whole patio area and was constantly running around, but also clearly knew how to handle the amount of people. She was also super helpful Smith suggestions. We were pretty hungry so we started with cheesecurds. They came out pretty quick and were quite good. Nicely fried so there was a little crisp. We all ordered a different type of fish. We got two of the specials which was a northern with kind of a ratatouille style topping and sweet potato fries, a curry cumin lime cod with veggies, the fried cod with fries and the poorman's. We also ordered some clam chowder on the side. Along with the meal also came breadsticks which were soft and well seasoned and a few of us had the side salad as well. All of the food was very good and came out hot. I was very impressed by the quality of the side salad. There was half a deviled egg with it! The fish was also quite good. I highly recommend the northern. It was a new special on the menu, but they should definitely add it to the regular rotation. Great flavor profiles and seasoning on it. The best part of this place was that all of the food was above average from the fries to the breadsticks to the clam chowder (there was lots of fish in it), I recommend stopping by even if there is a wait. Here is why Silver Birch earns 5 stars from me. The decor is great. The north woods look. The lighting. The "old school" chairs. (Try lifting one. I dare you.) The view to the lake and the deck are lovely. Again very north woods. The staff was friendly and attentive. Now I don't usually give a rating based on the staff as you never know what's going on in a persons life and whether or not the person is new, etc. but when everyone you see working is happy and smiling you know the owners are doing something right. So of course how was the food. We had a party of 7 and we enjoyed a few different items. We had as appetizers the walleye cheeks and cheese curds. They were both very good and really nicely presented. The clam chowder was really good. Lots of favor and lots of clams. I really loved the dinner salad. In my lifetime I had never gotten a dinner salad with a deviled egg! Plus all the other goodies in the salad...I was impressed. The big breadsticks that are served with the salad are warm and delicious. I had the duck. It was moist and had a great flavor with the orange glaze already cooked over the skin. We had a pork shank that was fall off the bone tender. Served with bacony sweet brussel sprouts. The large walleye filet was also very, very good. One of our group had a steak and shrimp with onions and really good fries. Another had the stuffed portobello mushroom. I'd say very unusual for the north country. It was huge and reported delicious. We skipped dessert as we were quite full. I should mention that the drinks were great. Especially the sangria. (The bartender was working injured and did a great job!) Silver Birch is a great asset to the supper club scene up here. Well worth the trip. We will return with more friends. read more

We stopped on a Monday evening, place was pretty busy. We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted by the bartender. Drinks were very good, she makes a great old fashioned! The view from the bar was soooo nice. We enjoyed a great conversation with the bartender and the owner, both were very friendly. We decided to eat at the bar, I had the ribeye with the twice baked potato... Both were amazing, great flavor. Partner had their creamy Cajun pasta which was pretty good, not very spicy. My most favorite place in the North Woods! I grew up with supper clubs, and you just can't find them anymore. I walked in behind a large group on a Monday night - silly me. I sat outside on the cutest little picnic table overlooking the lake. (I never realized they had this patio before - it was glorious). Host brought me a glass of wine immediately. Thankfully, because server didn't appear for a good 10 minutes. Ordered the broiled Walleye. As with any good supper club, simple walleye comes with soup, salad, potato, and breadsticks. Again, I was right behind a large group, so while dinner took a while that night, sitting outside on a patio with wine was much better scenery than the Rodeway Inn I was staying at. We recently visited the Silver Birch for an anniversary dinner. The vibe is traditional supper club pine with a fun twist on the decor. They have a beautiful deck in the trees with a limited view of Half Moon Lake. My husband and I both enjoyed our food- my steak was cooked to perfection! Our server was fantastic- she even recommended the best spot to watch holiday fireworks. She was attentive without hovering- just as it should be. You can tell the staff all take pride in their work. I chose the filet with shrimp and they were kind enough to allow me to substitute the coconut shrimp as my shrimp option. It was fantastic. The old fashions were tasty and complimented the meal as well. With my salad, I also received the most delicious garlic bread stick as well as a basket of crackers. My husband had the cream of cauliflower soup (which is odd for him to choose such a soup like that) but he thoroughly enjoyed it and said it was excellent! We LOVE Silver Birch. They make great cocktails and the food is terrific. Even on a Friday night in august there wasn't much of a wait at 8pm. Chris and Beth do a great job of entertaining. Sitting out on the deck is very nice too. Not buggy at all. My husband loves the fish fry and I'm partial to the Walleye. They served us a lovely chocolate angel food cake for our anniversary.
