Went here for a fish fry on Friday, don't you know. An urgent situation arose leaving me in a difficult position .... When my fork proceeded past the delicate breading on my huge piece of cod (only $20!!), some of the delicious, white fish dropped to the bottom of my bowl where only onion rings resided. Jammed in tight next to an onion ring. I risked it all, bravely hooked the onion ring and the cod chunk (together!) on my fork, dipped it all in tartar sauce (you get 2), and ate it. What was the result? It was delicious so I did it again! I am thinking of getting French fries next time and deliberately hooking a fry and the cod together and dipping it in tartar sauce. This is such a good up north kinda place. All long construction and great layout. The owner / bartender was super friendly and great to talk with. She genuinely cares about her place and it shows! Definitely suggest getting a cheese curd basket. Holy hell, it's huge! Very good and I bet a family of five would have trouble tackling it. A lot of speciality drink and the fruity pebbles one was pretty spot on. Be forewarned, it looks crowded from the outside but there's plenty of room inside. Try the pull tabs. No machine, counted out in person. $1, $5 and $10 tabs. Definitely a nice local gem! read more

Highly recommend for a good burger and a beer. If you're lucky maybe there will be live music. Thor is a great guy

After a lot of folks telling us we needed to try the Big Dipper, we were finally able to. The place is very cozy with a good size bar, 6-7 tables and a stage area. We got there on a Friday afternoon with it already being 1/2 full. An hour later it was packed with a bit of a wait. Good combination of locals and visitors. Service was great, portions are huge and prices are for the most part reasonable. We ordered a pizza and a 2 piece fish fry. Everything came out fairly quickly and tastey. Unfortunately we were not able to stay for the band, but have heard from others that it's a fun time. We will definitely be back read more

Now called The Big Dipper, they have really increased their menu, just had the Caeser salad with grilled chicken, it was delicious. Hubby had the burger, wow, ton of fries! Friendly people, fun place, good choice of beers on tap. read more

The new owners are young, energetic and local and are supportive of all the local businesses and people as well as all the seasonals. The food is exceptional and the pizza is the best I've ever had as others have said. I make sure to get the pizza everytime I am up, with leftovers to take home to Illinois. The low ceilings on this old log building continue the northern Wisconsin, old world feel but inviting to us who don't live there year round. read more

Just visited the Big Dipper. Started coming here thirty years ago when it was the Northernaire ... it was a great place to bring family and guests. For some reason we haven't been here for about ten years. Then last night we decided to go out for a burger ... but the kitchen was closed at Musky Jack's, our usually burger place. The bartender there steered us to the Big Dipper ... the new rendition of the Northernaire. What a find! Burgers were really good ... as were the home-made potato chips. A small selection of tap beers ... but some good ones to choose from. And the owners are great ... a soon-to-be-married couple. Before opening they really spiffed up the place ... completely remodeled restrooms, a new kitchen, new tables and chairs in the dining area ... and it looks like the log walls have been newly varnished. It's going to be one of our regular stops ... once again. read more

Love the Harveys! Sat night new york strip sandwich requires TWO BUNS. Dave, Joan, Amber and MJ are awesome, treat you like family. Burgers are the bomb, too. Does a pizza buffet the last Thurs night of the month. It's off the hook! And did I mention breakfast... If you go away hungry it's your own fault. Dave does not skimp on portion sizes and takes great pride in his cooking (and he should!) read more

My family and I have been coming to the Northernaire for 20 years. Every time we walk in the door it feels like home. From the friendly conversation to the giant basket of the best curds ever, we will always keep coming back. The mushroom and swiss burger should be featured on a food network show! Everything is cooked fresh and the weekend breakfasts are lumberjack size. The ham and cheese omelette had another piece of ham on top! No one else comes close to this place. Do your self a favor and give it a try. It is full of history, great people, and awesome food. Dave and Jill Smith (Illinois) read more

It is hard to come up with new superlatives to describe the NorthernAire experience. Literally everything is truly great from the food to the people to the bar atmosphere. My nephew Oscar has said numerous times they have the BEST cheeseburger he has ever had...and he has eaten quite a few in his days. I am heading that way in about a week and will be pulling up a chair several times there right after Sunday FunDay. Decade after decade, this fixture in the Northwoods is a "bucket list" requirement for anyone remotely in the area. read more

This off the beaten path bar has the BEST cheeseburgers in the North woods. If you like cheese this is the place but don't stop there. They have a great Wednesday only special but you better be there at 5PM when it starts because it won't last long. I highly recommend Northern Aire. read more
