We stopped in and sat at the bar to order a pizza to-go. The bartender was a little aloof, but whatever, it gave me time to check out what they carried and as I saw it was a full bar, when she took our drink order I asked for a lemon drop martini. She stood there and stared at me . . . didn't say anything. I asked, are you out of one of the ingredients, and she tells me she's never made one before and just stands there awkwardly. Ended up asking for a vodka cranberry instead. We ordered mexican street corn dip to snack on while we waited for the pizza to be done, and it was quite bland--it really could have used lime juice or maybe just more cotija cheese. Chili was cold and two days old. Waitress was slow in returning to table to warm it up but it wasn't worth the wait. They use to have great walleye fingers now it's more like finger nails no meat and all batter, definitely not fresh they were very generic and frozen. Chicken wings were definitely overcooked. And to top it off there were only two tables in the place 4 people dining. Also, waitress very unattentive as we had to go find her for the bill. Not a pleasant experience!! read more

I think this is some of the best food I've ever eaten. Came here around noon on a rainy Saturday to see it was already busy, but we were able to grab a seat right away. Food came out super fast and the place it's just a perfect wood-side bar to have casual eats in. We got fresh fried cheese curds, the french dip with fries, the Santa Fe chicken sandwich with coleslaw, and the brisket tacos with baked beans. Everything looked so good we all ended up trying bites of each other's food/sides and each dish was PERFECT. Makes me wish I lived in town. read more

Went to have lunch at the restaurant. Awesome food and great service. Make sure to try the cream of chicken wild rice soup. It was out of this world. The food was served quickly and was fresh. I had the ceaser salad with chicken. Very good. The portions were too large for lunch, so be prepared. I highly recommend the Boulder Beer Bar. read more

One of our mandatory stops every year! Not much to say but a typical Northwoods bars at level #10. Great service, great food and plenty of activities for everyone. Good selection of beers as well. Walleye fingers were great! One of the toughest decisions was the wild rice soup or the crawfish chowder. The wild rice was the winner! read more

NOT A FAMILY FRIENDLY establishment and will never be back. My family has had a place in Boulder Junction for 52 years. First time visiting under new ownership. Gooches, where we normally patronize was unfortunately closed due to a well deserved break. Upon arriving 9 pm Saturday night, 6 of us, including my 11 yo son immediately went to back room (away from bar) then I went to bar to order drinks. After waiting patiently and being told by the bartender she would be right with me, she skipped ahead of me to serve 2 young girls who walked in after us. When I was finally asked for order, I was told we could not stay past 930 because of 11 yo. I said fine we will have a drink then leave. I begrudgingly tipped 20%. Mind you, I am a bartender so I know the WI laws, anyone under 21 CAN be in a bar with their parents at any time. Of course an establishment can make their own rules, but then risk business. We had our (1) drink while playing pool and gambling machines (won $750) then left and took our business, along with other people that were meeting up with us, elsewhere where we spent $150 and left the bartender some of BBB gambling winnings, essentially a $100 tip. read more

We stopped in because we were visiting for the weekend. We came in a few minutes before 9pm. Our family came in for a drink since Gooch's was closed. We were a group of 6 (age 21-55) and we had my 11 year old brother in law with. The boys went back by the pool table in a completely separate area of the bar. He was with his 22 and 26 year old brothers and his mom and dad. My mother in law went up to the bar to order. The bartender walked by her multiple times and she waited 30 minutes to order drinks. The bartender served multiple other groups that walked in well after us before she came over by her. She was very dismissive and immediately made a comment about how she brought a child into the bar. We explained we were just stopping in for one drink and the boys wanted to play pool. She told us we had 30 minutes and then we needed to leave. That it was inappropriate for him to be in there. It wasn't busy at all, and he never walked over by the bar area. He minded his buisness playing pool with his big brothers. We were excited to try a new place but will not be back. The attitude from the bartender was disheartening and the way she shamed my mother in law in front of other customers was disgusting. I understand that in the state of WI although it is legal be under 21 in the bar after 9 with a guardian or parent of age- it is the owners discrepancy. We were simply there to enjoy a game of pool and a drink and a drink before heading home. We won $750 gambling and had more people meeting us. We took our money and business over to Linx Lake where Bev treated us respectfully and enjoyed our company. A simple polite explanation would have gone a long way instead of the shame and judgmental tone. We will not be back. There are lots of nice restaurants in the area- take your business anywhere else. read more

My friends and I went to Boulder Beer Bar after a full day of snowboarding. We were starving but never fear, we were seated immediately and ordered appetizers with the drink order. They have an excellent but expensive bottled root beer. Our hosts recommended the cheese curds saying "They are the greatest cheese curds you will ever have." I must say they live up to the hype. The breading is lighter than normal curds and is a great improvement, and the onion rings were of the same type breading. I ordered the cheese steak. The cheese steak was fairly big and just typically of other restaurants. I got the Cajun potato salad side that was made perfectly. My friend got the pizza and I tried it. The sauce was flavorful and big enough where two people can share. Great local place to stop at if you are in the area. read more

This is a nice friendly unpretentious beer joint with good bar food. Stephanie, the bartender, is cute, pleasant and efficient. The Beer Bar Burger is a serious 2 patty Sammie. A 1/3 # beef burger topped with a 1/3 # brat burger on a substantial bread bun dressed as you like it. Added a side (sweet potato fries today cuz they ran out of the Cajun Tater Salad) and I felt Like I'd won the lottery - every ticket a winner. My buddy, Mike, had the pulled pork sandwich and was well satisfied. A good draught beer selection (though out of Leiney Octoberfest). Came away fat, dumb & happy. read more

I'll start out a positive... the server was working suuuuppper hard.... But they were so woefully understaffed she had an impossible task. Two of the party had gumbo which smelled and tasted burned... altho there was no charry stuff in it... three in the party had the WORST Caesar salad in history. Absolutely bizarre. Rudeness will not be tolerated. In a down economy - in a small town - with three hungry people who probably would have kept coming back with our full group, including at night for drinks, rudeness is bad business. We called before arriving and asked if we could sit outside. With some elderly people at home, we just don't want to sit in a crowd. They said "yes" and we drove over. When we arrived, we asked one of the servers if we could sit down outside. She said we could, but to order food at the bar like it was takeout. No problem. We walked over to the bar - with masks on - and waited for the bartender to acknowledge us. It took a while. Finally, she walked over and my wife asked if we could order takeout style to eat outside. While in mid-sentence, the bartender cut my wife off, said she's not doing that, and walked away from us in the middle of her own sentence. GONE. Was it our masks? A little judgment because of that? I can't imagine another reason. You decide. But rudeness will not be tolerated. And my father-in-law, a homeowner of 50 years in Boulder, ain't coming back to the Boulder Beer Bar. read more

I think I went in with higher expectations given the reputation of the owner, which may have lead to the low rating. It's a nice, clean establishment. We started with some cheese curds. Fantastic! Best curds I have had in the north woods. I then ordered the brisket sandwich as I had heard the smoked meats were very good. I have been here many times, and will continue to come back when in town! There is an eating area, separate from the bar and a back room that has a few games in it for kids. Their customer base is a mix between fisherman visiting from out of town, families, and local residents. The service is good and the bartender was very friendly. We ordered a large pizza with half sausage and half cheese because we had remembered from years prior how much we loved their pizza. And let me tell you... we remembered right, the pizza did not disappoint and is probably the best pizza for miles. Overall, this establishment is a great place to come with any group of people. Came in with a group of 8. Their biggest table was for 8, and they had only one table for a big group. They had 4 people sitting at the table for 8. We asked if there was a way we can put 2 of the tables that seat 4 together or split up into 2 tables. They said no. We left. They chased after us telling its a small wait, but we didn't want to deal with a place with bad service. This all could have been avoided with better seat management. Wasn't my first choice but one of the few restaurants in town open on a Sunday night. Ordered a pizza for carry out. They use sandwich pepperoni which was different. Saucey. Good crust. Overall a really decent pizza. Saved some for the 6 hour drive home. Tried to use the heated seats to warm it up sadly it did not work. My sister enjoyed the rest of the pizza when I got home. Very, very cool Northwoods style pub. Casual decor, friendly service, happy drinking locals, and good beer. Before going, my buddies and I had been told that the cheese curds were good. Couldn't have been more wrong. The cheese curds were INCREDIBLE. It was like biting into a savory cloud of hand battered goodness. A must order if you go here. My one slight critique is the Philly cheese steak I got was tasty, but not amazing. Pizza would have been the better menu choice, it looked very very good. Seriously though, great place with good people. It's a casual enough place to take the whole family or go out for food and a drink with the guys. There are four good things here and more than four BAD THINGS. Beer, Pizza, BBQ, and fried cheese curds. We went for lunch the other day after a harrowing canoe trip. I had the BBQ chicken sandwich special and the wife had Steak Wrap. I've had ribs from Boulder before and they were pretty good but this experience is a major let down Chicken Sandwich in white sauce was left a little dry an average sandwich for $8.95. The Steak Wrap was terrible. It claimed to be steak marinated in Tequila Lime. No way was it!!!! Wasn't even cut up to fit properly in the wrap and it included huge chunks of FAT and GRIZZLE. Told our waitress, who told the owner. Response was "It's Ribeye it's supossed to have some fat". Not in a wrap buddy! Okay besides for the fact that the customer is ALWAYS RIGHT!!!!! It wasn't like we were trying to scam them as we purchased "to go" food and spent $50.00 on lunch!!!! The meat was nasty and inedible at times and was worthy of a complaint. Too bad the owner couldn't throw a free beer out to save these future customers. We won't be going back. I feel there are better value options in the Northwoods. . Granary, PI Pub, Gooch's, will be on the list for lunch next time. read more

Good news is food is pretty good. Great chess curds. Service on other hand bit do good. They seemed to be having a bad day mid week fur lunch. A lot of little things that made for a not fun experience and will not go back again and have dined here multiple times over the years. Beefs: Took forever for server to greet or table When drinks finally came they beers served in plastic cups. Not big deal but when you order a nice mucrobrew I like to drink it out of something glass. Server never ever stopped back by after food was delivered and they forgot one of our parties soup. Huge rookie server mistake always check back right after food brought to table. Kept an eye out trying to flag someone out to get soup situation resolved. Finally asked a young man and in a less than helpful way was informed that he was not or server but would tell her. Then went to pay and anex not accepted. Yeah I know there fees are a but higher than other cc but they certainly have enough profit margin to accept. They offered reasons excused for most of the miscues (New bartender, dishwasher issues, etc) but not really my problem. For me it is more not acknowledging (or even comprehending) that guests had less than good experience and offering something to fix (comp appetizer or something) and I probably would not have expressed my opinion and kept it to myself. read more

Came here for some food after biking from Manitowish Waters to Boulder. BBB is a great local spot serving up hot food and cold beverages. I ordered the steak wrap (grilled steak with lettuce and tomato in a flour tortilla. Instead of fries they allowed me to apply my side dish towards a bowl of chili for a small up-charge. The chili came out first and was delicious, not too salty or greasy, really "sticks to your ribs". My steak warp was also good, with real steak that was cooked medium (as requested) and fresh veggies. The only downer was that near the very end I saw that the remaining "meat" was just a huge chuck of fat. I think the kitchen should have noticed it and trimmed it off. My two companions ordered the chicken enchilada soup which was decent though lacking on the chicken, and the riblets which were also a decent though a bit fatty (which is to be expected). BBB also has a ton of TV's making it a great spot to watch sports. Overall a solid place to grab a bite to eat. read more
