Luckily we were able to get in since The Outdoorsman is no longer in business. First off - good coffee! My wife had the French Toast platter. Very good French Toast. Thus came along with bacon and eggs. The coating on the French Toast was very good and was not too thick or thin. I had the Country Fried Steak. This was one of the best offerings of this that I have had. The sausage gravy that was on top was extremely good. Nice bits of sausage and not "gloppy" if that's a word. The deep fried red skin potato nuggets were super. Sourdough toast was good and my eggs were cooked to order. Looking forward to going back! Giving a one because zero isn't an option. Called yesterday to confirm hours of operation and informed him my group would be dining there all week. Arrived to an empty parking lot and empty dining room. The owner rudely said we needed a reservation. In the past never required. I questioned why I wasn't informed of the reservation requirement during the phone discussion and he agreed that I had spoke him, but offered no apology for lack of information during the call. When I said we would go elsewhere for the week he replied Good Luck" with a hand gesture dismissing further conversation. Came here for years and it was great until the new owners arrived. They were rude to my wife and I decided to give them a second chance (she would not return after the first incident). They were then rude to my 5 year old son and then I decided to just walk out before ordering. These guys need a lesson in customer service 101, especially if they're trying to advertise as a "family restaurant ". read more

I would suggest these A-holes reread their mission statement below, and remember that WE are the public that are keeping YOU in business. We were here years ago when the mom was waitressing and it was great. Not anymore! We called to see if they were open, and the rude guy that answered went on to tell us he will "close when he wants to", and " deserves to be outside enjoying the good weather like everyone else." the two workers who were there, one as a waiter and the other as a chef, were, to put it bluntly, off their rockers, accusing us of causing a scene for questioning their poorly displayed cash only policy, ordering us off the property (our daughter was physically pushed out the door) and threatening to call the police -- for what? one of them came outside filming us with his cellphone--why? i will admit to returning this with some snark but i never raised my voice. when i asked him if had ever heard the customer comes first, he said "Not here" and went on a rant. someone get him some help. read more

The food was delicious and the service top notch. The only strike against them was we both ordered over easy eggs on our skillets and they came out over hard. They quickly provided over easy replacements and the cook came out to apologize later. Both of our skillets were very good. The was a table of 10 that waa seated just prior to us and they made sure to get our order in before the big table was ready. Greatly appreciated. And the food came out quickly. Wish I could leave zero stars. Since the new owner took over 2 years ago the place has really went down hill. Last year according to chamber of commerce they were open but we went there everyday for a week and the business was locked up. This year when we actually did attempt to go the owner said he could not accommodate our group of 7 and that we needed reservations. However, there wasn't a single person there expect the owner's boyfriend whom was the cook. I would highly recommend Aurora Borealis or the Outpost. read more

I've never been to a place where the proprietor was so rude. We aren't from around here and came to eat with our family. We were told immediately we needed a reservation and it would be an hour wait if they could seat us at all. My aunt said sorry we aren't from around here so we didn't know we needed a reservation. He then said, yep you do in a really snarky tone. As we all filed out he said, "I'm sorry you all have to be with her." And he closed the door on us. This guy was disgustingly rude. Just trying to celebrate an 80th birthday. Sorry for being good tippers, nice people, and trying to understand the rules even when they only took cash because their machines were down. Rude waitress, food was just north of terrible. The building looked nice from the road so we thought we would give it a try. I wished we had kept driving. Burger didn't taste right. This was once my go to for breakfast. In the past the food was always great plus a great staff. This was not the case on my last visit. I don't know how they can screw up eggs bacon and hash browns but they did. Eggs were runny and not done , hash browns were gray and looked like dead grass, bacon was ok, and the coffee is the weakest I have ever had. I told my wife to take a good look around as we will not be going back. Also we were told it was cash only and we're the only people in the store. Sad. read more

Stopped here while riding nearby on the bike trail. They had a nice porch area with seating on it. Extremely slow service, food was ok, out of some side food items that were ordered but didn't tell us until our food was brought to us. Our server never brought us a bill, so I went to find it and pay. Then I was told they only accept cash and they had an atm machine I could use. Disappointed that this wasn't told at the start of the order. I would not return here if in the area. read more

The food here is outstanding. Made from scratch sausage gravy was the best we ever had. Service was fast, very attentive and friendly. We went there for breakfast two days in a row. Went about 9 am both days. Waited 5 minutes for a table the first day and got right in the second day. Huge portion sizes. Only complaint was the water. They serve cucumber water and when I asked for plain tap water they just pulled the cucumber out of my original glass. Hostess was the one that did it and likely just wasn't well-trained. I'm struggling to understand: if you only accept cash, why not post it VERY OBVIOUSLY before people enter? Why send out cold unbuttered toast, ask if we want butter, then bring us a small cold ball of butter? Why ask if you want your hash browns crispy, then send them smothered in a layer of eggs/cheese so they are soggy? My "veggie" skillet had a few pieces of partially cooked broccoli and a few tiny pieces of red pepper. Not much else. read more

Michael and team have a lovely setting. They have all their flowers and posies hanging at the front as a welcome. They have excellent food and friendly service. If they have their holiday special treats out at the cash register, they're excellent. I bought several of them for my Easter guest and they were well received. A store owner in town highly recommended this place for their BLTs especially. Waitress was friendly and we were seated right away. Great service all the way through. We ordered cheese curds, which were very good. Both of us had BLTs and they were excellent. Lots of bacon on them, too. Male host came to our table to see if everything was good. We went during a busy time, so I was understanding when we were seated & not given menus or talked to for about the first ten minutes. But when four other tables were seated after us, given menus, water, coffee, and ordered, and it had been 40 minutes since my family & I were seated & we STILL weren't acknowledged, I was very upset. I went to the hostess to let her know that we had been ignored for 40 minutes. As we were eating, one of the tables that was seated AFTER us was apologized to & had their bill discounted because they were waiting. They waited for CONSIDERABLY less time than us, yet we paid full price for our meal with no apology from our waitress. The food was good, but the service was terrible. This place definitely lived up to the "diner" description. The place was pretty crowded at 9:30am on Sunday and had a 20 minute wait for my husband and me. The coffee was okay. I ordered the special of the Apple Chicken Sausage Scrambler (chicken sausage, mushroom, spinach, tomato, cheese, 3 eggs) and it was really good! My husband got the Veggie Scrambler. For an 'up north' breakfast or an 'up north' lunch, in a town with only one main street, stop by The Granary. Here is a place where first names are prevalent, the service is fast and friendly, the breakfasts have a home cooked appeal, and the lunches are loaded with healthy, fresh, unbelievably good produce (with a special note for their fabulous chicken salad, chipotle southwest burger, and the BLT in a super herbal wrap). Not to mention homemade lemonade and a super cup of coffee that is never ending. All this and a view and breeze of gentle pine trees as you sit on a newly screened porch, enjoying your meal, and wondering why anyone would head back to the city ... any city. And keep in mind: for those busy after church brunches or a Saturday check out when you (unfortunately) must return to the reality that is not northern Wisconsin, don't be surprised to wait a bit. Just had a cheese burger with fries and it was the most amazing burger in Boulder Junctions. Hands down! The bun was toasted and tasty, the fries were perfectly cooked, no limp ones and the burger was grilled and perfectly cooked. WTGo! We live here and only YELP when it is amazing.
