We have been here twice now on Sundays. It seems to be a popular place with just a couple of tables open at any one time. Our server both times, Jill, is a hoot. First time there my husband said, "I love her". She may be the main reason everyone keeps coming back. That and the huge portions. First time there I had an interesting, yet delicious, Ruben which seems to be a Sunday special. I was told that the corned beef hash is from a can but the corned beef for the sandwiches is brined in-house. The sandwich was delicious with just the right amount of sauerkraut and salad dressing. What made it interesting was that instead of large slices of corned beef in the sandwich that slide out when taking a bite, the corned beef was chopped and piled high. But it was a great experience eating it because you had the corned beef in every bite without any sliding out. My husband had the sausage and gravy with sausage and eggs. And loved it. The sausage gravely had a rich flavor ( I tried a bite). Second trip I had a 1/2 stuffed hash browns which came with an egg (scrambled) and toast (sourdough). I couldn't finish the 1/2 order. My husband ordered the Lumberjack platter AND a side of corned beef hash. I looked at him like he was crazy and he said he was hungry. Well, 1/4 of the pancake, 1/2 the eggs and hash browns and 2 sausage links and 2 bacon plus 1/2 toast come home with him including 1/3 of the corned beef hash and the rest of my hash browns. I was looking for a place with a reasonable kids menu and this place really nailed it! My French toast was amazing (they even gave me an extra piece) all kids items were 5 or under! And the cinnamon rolls were delish! The hubs got country fried steak n eggs. All in the bill was $35! Great food at great prices - who knew this still existed in the US. Love! Way more seating than some previous reviews mentioned. Friendly efficient service even tho it was Sunday breakfast. Everything was SO good. I always order the same thing for breakfast and it was perfect. One egg scrambled- fluffy and the correct (small) portion (ever notice how 2 eggs is always 3 etc.? I'm not that into eggs), crispy but not burnt bacon, actual shredded potato hash browns with real cheddar and a side of sour cream and cholula. A coffee carafe left on the table = extra points. Charged 4.99 for a cup of coffee, that I never even ordered. And when I pointed that out to the waitress and nicely asked for the charge to be removed, I was refused. The meal was mediocre. We can all have a bad day, nobody is perfect. It's human to error. But, rudeness & refusal...and argumentative attitudes are not the way to handle a simple mistake. Service is horrible! The restaurant was not even 1/3 full and it still took an hour and a half to get our food. The waitress never came and checked on us. This review is ONLY REGARDING TAKE-OUT OF CINNAMON ROLLS! They are, however, so good that they deserve a review! I will review the rest of the restaurant after I have been able to sit down and eat a meal there. For a bit of background, my sister asked me to pick up something from Ace Hardware across the street and to entice me, she highly recommended Cafe Holiday for breakfast or in the least, their cinnamon rolls, which as she put it, are out-of-this-world!! We did her bidding but didn't have time for a sit down breakfast. Instead, we called ahead for a pick up of some cinnamon rolls. The restaurant is a cute and typical diner, but with an impressive looking bar that I would like to visit as well, on other visit, but not in the morning. . The place is clean and the super busy waitresses still managed to keep a smile on their face and handle their customers dine in and take out, with kind efficiency. SIDE NOTE--EVERY place up north in this area is severely understaffed for lack of workers so please be kind to those you deal with. The cinnamon rolls alone are worth the drive, though. They get 5 stars from me. I withheld one star from my review as I have only had take out of one food item and also because back in 2021, they used the f-word in an official business Facebook post. Wisconsin Supperclubs are a paradox. They often have zero curb appeal, and the interior designs usually leave much to be desired. That said, they are usually scrupulously clean, unfussy, and devoid of pretense. The clientele are the salt-of-the-Earth unpretentious folk you find everywhere in Wisconsin, with the caveat none of these folks look like Gourmet eaters. But when you break down the "G"-word-and take the honest meaning of "High-quality ingredients prepared skillfully", an entirely different focus comes into view. I've been to (purportedly) "high-end" establishments which left me aching for something good to eat, and left more for a tip at those mistakes than a meal for four would cost at a typical Wisco Supperclub. True story. I wont go as far to say the worse the "Circuses" at a Wisco Club, the better the "Bread", but it wouldn't take much to complete that trip. Take the Cafe Holiday here. Not much to look at inside or out. The beauty here, is on the plates. The excellence here, is in the service. Where it counts. We were here for Breakfast, and it was fantastic. I had a Mexican Omelet. Any cognitive dissonance you might have with learning a great Mex Omelet can be found in the Far Northwoods is futile. Wife had Bacon and Eggs. Yes you CAN foul that simple order, but not here. Eggs tasted like home-made and the Bacon was top-notch. The COFFEE was superb, and the "throw" of the Diet Cokes was excellent. The capper was Jill the waitress who was a thorough hoot! (and proficient in her job at the same instant). Why can't ALL restaurants be this good? It can't be economics. It's attitude and intent. Review #2 -- one year later. . . . . . I ate at Cafe Holiday again last week. Not because I wanted to but because that's where our organization meets for an annual Christmas luncheon -- so I really didn't have a choice. But I'm happy to report that everything was much better this time around. I carefully watched the server and she handled all the plates in a professional manner. I ordered the shrimp plate with fries, slaw, veggies and a dinner roll this year. While it was composed of generic frozen food delivered in bulk from one of the local restaurant supply houses and quickly fried in the kitchen, I rather enjoyed it -- because it reminded me of my childhood. When I was growing up in the 50's and 60's whenever we went out to eat I always ordered shrimp (probably because it was virtually impossible to get or make good deep fried shrimp at home -- and also because my parents would never let us kids order an expensive piece of steak). There were an ample number of shrimp and more than enough fries on the plate. The slaw was crunchy and creamy just the way I like it. The previously frozen veggies dished out from the steam table were another matter. One bite was enough. It might mean a bit more work for the kitchen but fresh roasted or stir-fried veggies are infinitely better. We camped at Clear Lake but realized we had forgotten our French Press, which meant no way to make coffee. So we headed to another breakfast spot near by. They only accepted cash so we walked down to Cafe Holiday. We walked in and knew we were at a place for locals. Probably my favorite place to eat lunch in the area. We got a coupon for two free kids meals with a purchase of one adult meal when we went to the local zoo, and I was astonished by the portion sizes! If you have a hearty appetite it will fill you up but anything less, you're coming home with leftovers. I had their Reuben and it's REAL corned beef. Not the deli slices you get other places. And it's a big sandwich. The servers are local who will treat you like they've known you for years. We came in when they were going to close in 30 minutes and they were happy to have us! We've been to Tula's cafe and Paul Bunyan's this trip and they were TERRIBLE service. This place gets my 5 stars! read more

I have been to Holiday Cafe a couple times in their Woodruff location (after several visits to their previous Hazlehurst location): once for breakfast and once for lunch. Great food, decent service. Their stuffed French toast is truly decadent! Filled with chocolate and peanut butter or Apple and Cranberry. They make their own bread, so the pieces are large. For stuffed, they offer one or two, and for regular French toast, they offer one piece, two, or three. I had trouble finishing one piece of stuffed, and I wouldn't eat more than two of the regular. Lunch wasn't as good for me... I had the fish sandwich, and it had no cheese or tomato. Just fish, tarter sauce and lettuce. Very dry. Good French fries, though. My lunch companion had a Reuben, that was very lean and good. I'll try them again for lunch and avoid the fish sandwich. read more

Friday night I was in town for business and had the craving for fish. I had not been to Cafe Holiday so I though I'd try. About 40 yrs ago this place was called the Viking. It was better as the Vking. The place was drab and clammy. I grabbed a table in the corner, when I say grabbed, it grabbed me, it was sticky from left over tarter sauce and the FF was still on the floor. The only updating done was clean the carpet, paint the walls and a different match book under the table leg, left over from 1979. I had the salad bar and Friday night fish. The soup was good but greasy and cold. The fish consisted of large fish sticks, tasteless cole slaw and baked beans left over from someone's wedding, very dry from being microwaved. Morton's frozen fish would have been better and a lot cheaper. Other places in town would be far better. read more

We went there for Friday fish fry. We had to wait a little bit so had some drinks at the bar. We all had the fish fry. It was wonderful. The potato pancakes-they were fantastic.
