Among my top five places to eat/drink in Minocqua. I love the vibe, the staff is great, and the coffee and breakfast items are always good. I switch from the breakfast burrito to "mom's oatmeal," and I always get the nitro cold brew coffee. When summer comes, this place can get slammed. It's not Starbucks - it's a small business, which is where I try to spend my money before small businesses are gone. And David vs. Goliath aside, I'd still pick this place. It is a cute little place on a busy corner in downtown minocqua. It is a pretty small restaurant. It is a café, but it has sandwichs and salads too. It was a very busy place, so are food did take some time, but it was totally worth it. I odered the adult grilled cheese it was super cheesy. It came with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and red pesto. The refresher I got was so delicious. It was one of the best refreshers I have ever had. It was really good, I got the dragon fruit and elderberry one. Next time I would like to try the other flavors. It was really clean. Even the bathroom was clean. There was only one bathroom so I had to wait for the bathroom for a while. Overall a good experience if it was quicker they would get five stars. read more

Very cute cafe but if you aren't willing to wait an hour and half for your food, don't come. Staff seemed overwhelmed so maybe it was just a one time thing yesterday. But it would've been nice to be told when we ordered avocado toast it would take an hour and half. We got up to get our money back after the hour and half but that's when they rushed out with the food. The iced lattes were good but the food was alright. Very cut place otherwise. I would just ask if the food will be out timely or if you should only get coffee. read more

If you like a lighter roast, the coffee is Collectivo, and very good. What stands out to me as the service. They're extremely friendly and attentive. A pleasant experience, especially with the outdoor seating on a summer morning. They provided lots of places to sit, as well. Not a large selection to choose from, but the chicken salad sandwich that I had was great. Side salad with blood orange vinaigrette was tasty as well. Very hot summer day, and the patio umbrellas were broke, which is fine, but they made it sound like they've been broke for a while. Clearly in the height of summer tour season you need to get this rectified ASAP. Staff was friendly. I would certainly recommend for food. read more

My wife treated me to a birthday breakfast at Cafe Sonder the other day. I drive by several times a week but had never stopped. I expect that will be changing. On one level Cafe Sonder is "just another local coffee cafe," not unlike thousands of places around the country, and a goodly number in the Minocqua area as well. But it's not part of an ubiquitous chain -- so for that reason alone it deserves your patronage. The decor is pleasant and welcoming -- including about a hundred photos of friends and patrons -- if you know people around town you might recognize someone -- I did. It was a cool autumn morning when we visited, but if you stop by in the summer or a warm day in the spring or fall there is a nice outdoor seating area right on the main street heading south through town. Seating is somewhat limited inside and out, so you might have to wait for a seat, or opt for take away, on a busy day I started out with a cup of the house blend coffee. I take mine black and it was just right -- dark and rich, fairly strong but not overly bitter. For my food I went with their Nordic Breakfast Sandwich -- basically an everything bagel. cream cheese and smoked salmon, served with a green salad on the side. For me it was a perfect birthday breakfast featuring ingredients I rarely have on hand at home. Everything was fresh and tasty. The amount of salmon was more than ample for the price point of the plate. I really enjoyed it. Cafe Sonder is a decent but average establishment. That said, I will be stopping in again when I get a hankering for some bagels and lox and I'm confident that it will meet my expectations. read more

They had just about no options available left for food or drinks. We had a group of five people and they didn't have any of our orders except one. All of our second choice coffee orders were very much watered down and none of us tried food since they were very overpriced ($11) and didn't have the ones we wanted (only vegetable burrito option available). Won't be coming back. Just go to Starbucks. read more

Stopped in early Sunday morning on our way out of town - We had no idea what a treat we were in for! We ordered a pumpkin spice latte, two different flavors of chai latte, and two types of muffins. All were great, but the sour cream cinnamon muffins need a call-out for one of the best, most moist muffins I've ever had. Baked goods are freshly made by "Grandma" in the back, and they also have quiche. They said they will be rolling out a full menu in the future. There are a few tables and chairs inside, including an electric fireplace, and a small patio out front. Highly recommend - we look forward to becoming regulars at this new establishment. read more

This is definitely a necessary stop if you're coming through Minocqua! The environment is second to none in comparison to the other shops in the area and it has a very warm, homey feel to it! I have never experienced such rude service from the owner in my life. I bought a coffee at 11am, we were sitting with our laptops for not even 5 minutes and the owner (Natalie Sandberg) asks us to leave within the hour for lunch rush. I told her we will buy lunch there so that she won't be inconvenienced. I go to buy lunch a little later and I sit back down. She then comes back to our table and yells at us and accuses us of being there since 9am (we had hardly been there an hour at this point and spent $35 on food and drinks). There were several tables open in the restaurant. She made us move tables right as my lunch came out, but at this point I was crying because of how mean she was and I did not touch my lunch. One of the waitresses came and apologized for how mean the owner was and gave me a cookie. The cookie smelled nice, but tasted salty because of the tears I got on it. I would say it is common courtesy to not yell at your guest. read more

Quick summary: if you are looking for somewhere to get some work done for a couple of hours. This is not the place for you. Even if you're not looking for somewhere to work, still go elsewhere. I was staying in the area for the past couple of weeks and had poor reception, so I was off to find a cafe or coffee shop. Stumbled upon here and read reviews of the owner being rude and literally making people leave. People who buy coffee, food and bakery. People who are spending money, not getting the cheapest item on the menu and sitting all day. I thought I'd go check it out myself to see if this was true as it is one of few places around. The place is clean and bit small and awkward to navigate, with a strangely placed island that leaves very little room to get to the register. Side note here, the person I'm assuming was the owner got very rude with some customers simply waiting in line to order. "Umm excuse me, the line starts over there!" No menu was posted expect for coffee, food menu was small and rather bland and a bit on the pricey side. $10.50 for a sandwich and chips. I will say the sandwich was a good portion, but flavor wise, nothing to write home about. The best part of this place, are the cardboard, hand written signs all over saying to limit your "office" away from home, to 45 minutes. When I visited it was busy, but mostly with to go orders. 50% of the indoor seating was available and many tables taken by customers waiting on to go orders. They don't want your business? This place is a gem. Stopped in twice for coffee and breakfast. They have a small but outstanding menu. The yogurt parfait was fresh and delicious. My daughter loved the bacon and cheese quiche and the mini muffins that came with it! Service was friendly and quick. One of the best iced lavender lattes I've had and I've sampled quite a few! I was looking for a bakery and found this establishment on Google. I was pretty disappointed the minute I walked in. When I'm looking for a bakery I'm expecting a case full of baked goods. This place was not that at all. It felt more like a coffee shop to me. They had a very small table top case of baked goods with 3 or 4 different kinds of muffins and a fruit filled croissant. I ended up getting a muffin. It was super moist and "springy" but wasn't what I was looking for. The appearance of the establishment is appealing and I like the name, but it just missed the mark for me. read more

They even came in on a closed day to make my family some pastries for a birthday. Great spot for grab and go or to sit and talk. Would not not recommended this place if you plan on doing any work there. Recently went there and one of the works said if you are doing work that we needed to wrap up our stuff so other could sit there. I didn't even have my coffee finished.
