Let me clarify this is a 4.5 star rating. Our friends at Yelp still won't give us half stars…read more After visiting Northwoods Inn, I tell people, "I had a great meal at a gas station recently.". No kidding, don't let the gas station vibes throw you, this place has great eats. We walked in through the gas station part of the building and were surprised to see the rustic decor of a medium sized dining area and an adjacent bar. It was a pretty full dining room and we sat ourselves. It didn't look promising as we saw one waitress and one bartender. However, after a brief wait, the waitress came to our table and assured us she would return as quickly as possible to get our drink and food orders. She returned as promised. Our drinks arrived a short time later. They were well made and attention was paid to get us another round as we finished the first. Our table had ribs, prime rib and a French dip sandwich. The portion size was great and the food arrived hot. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and the sauce was tasty. The prime rib had great flavor, was prepared as ordered and had very little fat. The French dip was also tasty. Truth be told, a salad bar would make this a true five star rating. The salads served with the meal were nice but very run-of-the-mill. Will we go back in the future? You betcha!

I can see the appeal. This would be a super cool place to see live music outside. We just dropped…read morein for a break on a long drive. Drinks were cheap, had a cafe & small store too. The backyard is beautifully manicured with an outdoor bar (likely only open for events), a good sized stage, waterfall (that wasn't on in mid-September of course) and lots of seating/tables.

Decided to branch out from the usual Fish Fry spot to check out White Tail's since getting a new…read morechef. We went for a decently early dinner and were able to make reservations as well which made it very convenient. We were seated promptly and our waitress was very kind. I also appreciate a place that knows how to make a good old fashioned and has a nice salad bar! That's the true north woods experience. White Tail remains absolutely beautiful and charming as it always has, this building is historic and there's truly nothing like the ambiance in there especially with the live piano. The Ahi Tuna small plate was delicious. I wouldn't consider it a "small plate" it was huge. There is no skimping on portions here, that's for sure. Two of us decided on the Perch Fish Fry, and the other opted for the Cod. I can speak on the Perch because that's what I had. It was seasoned perfectly, not too breaded, and it was HOT. My only minor complaint is that there were a lot of bones that I had to pick out/be careful not to eat. For my side I got the cheesy grits and I haven't stopped thinking about them since. They are by far in the top 5 most delicious things I've ever had in my entire life lol. I tried a piece of the cod, the fish is good but I'm personally not a fan of the batter breading, or the type of fries White Tail serves. Finished the night off with a Brandy Alexander but was kicking myself after I saw that the Banana Banshee is back on the menu. I came here a few years ago before the new ownership and asked for one and they didn't do that at the time, so I'll definitely be getting that the next time we come in.

Used to love this place.... Went today and oh my. It was bad. The food was not good. The dining…read moreroom was almost completely empty and yet everything moved slowly. Our waitress was delightful! To be honest for the price we paid, we were heartily disappointed. We will not be returning. Also, when I called for a reservation, I asked for 7 people at 5:30. She told me that wouldn't work but they could do 6. Seriously? There was no one there! Ugh

My wife and I were in town with our exchange students (from Italy and Spain), we had an expectation…read morethat we would have a hard time finding amazing food and did struggle the first few days with average results. Then as we sat at a local dive, I stumbled on Finn & Feather and we left, drove 95mph and made it (with an hour and half to spare as they are on Central time!). I am so glad we made that move, drinks were great, food was AMAZING! Our exchange students tried the ELK steak my wife ordered for the first time (and first time for me as well) and it was simply perfection! My old fashioned was spot on. I'm a steak guy, my steak was the GUIDES cut (I was skeptical), but HOLY COW, what a piece of meat, cooked to my exact standards (my Dad was a butcher) and the piece was a very generous portion given the price after cooking even. Ok, so I would leave it there, but I can NOT, the deserts were home-made, the in-house cream alone was fabulous and the cake we had was out of this world. Our only minor complaint, the broccolini needs some seasoning, but overall it was so minor, we wouldn't worry too much about it. If you are up North, an even within an hour, make the trip to this amazing restaurant sitting buried right on the shores of Lake Gogebic. It was so good, we heard they were doing a lobster boil the next night, we booked reservations on the spot and came back the next night! Special shout-out to our waiter and the whole staff - it was the Labor Day weekend and they made us feel special, included and the food - oh the food - so good! Don't miss this special place on your next trip up north!
