This Supper Club is one of my stops whenever I'm within an hours drive. Have been eating here for over ten years. Came here for their Friday fish fry. I got the haddock and my husband got the walleye. The breading on both was extremely light and both fish were great. They bring out rye bread and coleslaw to your table after ordering your meal. It was a BUSY Friday night so our server Dana did her best to accommodate us and refill drinks and be attentive but again, it was very busy. When she started describing the homemade desserts my ears perked up when she said double chocolate cobbler with a big scoop of ice cream on top.... When it was brought out it was simply a hard brownie with a scoop of ice cream next to it. Disappointing. BUT, the banana fosters cheesecake? That was the best cheesecake I've had in a long long time. Would go back just to have another slice. Ambiance is the definition of north woods Wisconsin supper club. We spent a weekend in St. Germain, and we usually like to just cook from home or grill out, but as it was our anniversary we decided to go out to a nice supper club. We made reservations a week in advance. Got there early/checked in at 5:30 and sat at the bar having great cocktails listening to great music and having a good time. Our reservation was for 6:00, we didn't get seated until 6:20 (it was a busy night) We got the cheese curds, nothing crazy, but good, then the appetizers came out. Salad was a typical iceberg lettuce and a single cucumber type salad, nothing special. But then- we got served 2 kings Hawaiian rolls, that's kinda what shocked us...for a restaurant with a minimum of $25 dishes and they served kings Hawaiian rolls? With Sysco butter? Then we got our walleye fish fry. I've had amazing fish fries in my life and I can say that $30 for a fish fry that has 0 flavor and the lightest breading/batter I've seen, with so many bones, I would not order it ever again. And the fries were your basic frozen, pre measured, bland, out of bag fries. The food- not too impressed at all. BUT - the ambiance of the bar, the drinks and music was great, I'd go back just for the bar but don't think I would get food there ever again. There was also the 4% card fee, which added to the already not so cheap price of the food. Overall, ambiance was great, we'd go back just for drinks, but definitely a pass on their food. read more

If you come here, get the chicken Kiev! You will not be disappointed. The chicken kiev was bursting with garlic butter served over a bed of wild rice - absolutely delicious! I did not like the lobster bisque soup - it looked and tasted like tomato soup with a tiny hint of lobster. It was like they ran out of lobster bisque and just added some tomato soup to it. FYI They also don't have a baby changing table in any of their bathrooms and I had to change my daughters diaper on their couch. read more

A really consistent dinner spot. There's a large u-shaped bar area and then a spacious dining room. The bar is a great place to hang out before dinner or just for drinks! We always make a reservation because it fills up. The cheese curds are really good with a distinct squeak. I love that the entrees come with soup or salad and bread. My family members love their homemade ranch. I most recently got the chicken Marsala, which is delicious. Super creamy, flavorful mushroom Marsala sauce over noodles and chicken. I've gotten the tournedos a number of times. They're always cooked how I ask (medium rare) and come with a good portion of sautéed mushrooms and onions. The sautéed mushroom side for $4.99 is a substantial amount of mushrooms if you're looking for more. The scallops are great and very tasty. read more

Pros: - cool bar area to leisurely enjoy an old fashioned, beer, cocktail, or wine - Friendly staff and bartenders make you feel at home - Delicious horseradish cheese dip and breadsticks crackers were quickly placed on the table to munch on while deciding dinner - Supper club experience, including choice of potato and soup/salad with main entree Cons: - a 4% increase is added to your total bill if you don't have cash, which isn't listed on the menu - When we went on a Saturday, they were out of prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes, and several other main dishes. Excellent place to stop in for a delicious meal. You can tell they really care about the food they cook. The waitress who was waiting lots of tables did an excellent job handling everything. Fantastic Old Fashioned's in a tub glass that would have made my dad proud. The cheese curds are average cheese curds that you can find anywhere but what sets these apart if the house made ranch dressing- wowza! Although we didn't get either on this visit, the Duck Wontons and the warm Krab Dip are worth diving into and shouldn't be missed. The Chicken Marsala is made with a velvety, smooth and creamy sauce. The Marsala flavor was delicate but present and served over a bed of pasta; the chicken was charbroiled and cooked nicely- all together it was delicious and decadent. My guy had the Tournedos- on the menu it said it was prepared with mushrooms, onions and garlic. What it didn't say was that it was also prepared with red wine...Tournedos can be prepared with a wide variety of sauces and to have this was a bit unexpected. Although the steak was tender, the red wine over powered the taste of the mushrooms, onions and garlic. He did eat a large portion but he didn't love it and would have ordered something else had he known about the wine. It's just not a flavor he cares for. (I tasted it myself and agreed with his POV- wine is all I tasted and in took over the entire dish). All that being said, Clearview is a wonderfully charming place, with fantastic service and good food. We only wish we had known about the wine in the preparation of the meat. read more

Great cocktails Great Ambiance but service and food changed in small ways that had this in our top five Supper Clubs in the Northwoods. I'm guessing the poor service was our server only as other servers seemed happy, engaging and appreciative of diners. The dinner salad is wilted leafy and not fresh tasting and the smallest detail of skimping on those special croutons was noticeable along with the cracker basket. The price of prime rib has risen but more than comparable establishment. I'm willing to pay just do t skimp on what was a caring and quality establishment. read more

Having lived in the eastern US for most of my life, supper clubs are a bandwagon I've jumped on for the last decade. I want to say this was mulligan and next time I'm in town I'll try it again. I'd write more the food but a $45 NY strip special medium rare steak was medium well. Apparently some people order steaks medium well but I wouldn't really know because I don't associate with those people. They have some cottages that seem to be under the same ownership so if you want to stay somewhere and mosey over to the restaurant and welcoming bar check it out. read more

My family and I spent the last night of our up-north weekend eating at Clearview Supper Club. My in-laws had been there before, but my husband and I had not. We arrived early to have a drink at the bar. It was only 5pm (on a Sunday,) so it wasn't busy. The bar was spacious and super cozy. I loved the Halloween lights they had hanging around the bar. Super festive! The bartender was incredibly sweet and efficient. The cocktails were delicious and the wine list was more than decent. When we sat for dinner, the dining room was also festive, warm, and inviting. We ordered cheese curds and more drinks. The curds were okay, maybe a little over-breaded, but good. Our meals came with soup or salad. I ordered salad, and chose blue cheese for my dressing and was super pumped when the salad came out with not only blue cheese dressing, but a side of blue cheese crumbles as well! Our dinner came and I was very happy with the cook of my ribeye. There was a yummy char on the steak that was super good too. Of all the potato options, I chose garlic mashed. They tasted good, but were a little lukewarm if I'm being honest and not as creamy as I had hoped. Still good though, I didn't regret ordering them. My husband loved his ribs and chicken and my in-laws loved their meals too. I think we have found a new "go-to" dinner spot for our cabin weekends. Can't wait to return? read more

A cute place with a very genuine "up North" ambience to it in a lovely setting. Sad to see that quality has slipped in the last couple of years, though. Our pre-dinner salad was skimpy, limp and not especially cold. The dinners themselves were delicious, well-plated and kind of different for the North Woods scene (I had the ravioli/steak dish). However, they were barely warm when served. The waitress seemed miffed when we sent it back; she returned with the obviously microwaved plates a couple minutes later; hotter, but it didn't do any favors for the dish. Thing is, it's not a cheap place. It has a good reputation and a loyal following in the area. But it really needs to show a little more care when it comes to both the food and service. read more

The famous prime rib was unfortunately nothing special. It wasn't juicy but better with the au jus and creamy horseradish. The baked French onion soup was peppery as was the regular creamy chicken and rice soup. The wild rice served to my uncle had obviously been sitting in the pot a long time! Gooey! The walleye looked good and was reported to be so. The homemade apple pie was delish as was the ice cream drinks. I would not classify this as a supper club as I think of one as more upscale with linens, not plastic table clothes, or flimsy paper napkins with dusty fake flowers on the table. We had a fantastic meal at Clearview. Our server was Dana(?) and she was friendly, helpful and attentive. Old fashioned's were perfect. Had a starter of the poutine, fries and curds were great but the real start was the thick and flavorful beef gravy which brought the dish to life. That night they had a chicken pot pie soup which was hearty, creamy and seasoned deliciously. Entrees were the Chianti braised short rib ravioli in cream sauce (delicate, rich and full of flavor) and steak which was cooked perfectly. We went to Clearview for their Saturday night prime rib special over the Fourth of July weekend and were surprised by the increase in price of their "special"! The price of their queen prime rib was listed as $36.99 on their specials board and when we received our bill they actually charged us $39.99. When I pointed out the discrepancy to the cashier she said that it was due to the increase in the price of beef - OK (yes, she actually said OK after her statement). I told her "no, it was not OK" paid the overcharge and left knowing we would not be returning! The prime rib was average and I'm sure that we can get better prime rib at that price somewhere else without the attitude. If there were a separate star rating for each amenity I would give our waitress five stars because she was outstanding! read more

I'm sad to write that this was the only meal on our trip that wasn't very good. The fish was as bland as can be and the lettuce was white. This was a 1970's meal and we were really disappointed. Also, someone's kids were running up and down the dining room and patrons were clearly annoyed. I love this place for so many reasons! We just finished a week up in St. Germain and this was a perfect spot to stop after taking the sleds out at night. The food and service is spectacular. I couldn't believe how quickly the waitress responded to one of my nephew's spilling water- we're talking seconds. More importantly, I ended up leaving my wallet and the owner touched base with some of the locals we were hanging out with. They contacted me to let me know she had it. I reached out and she mailed it out the next day to Chicago for me. Their Friday night menu was disappointing. My husband ordered the walleye fish fry. The fish was dry and he spent dinner chewing bones. His potato pancakes were burnt on one side, but hey. If you serve that side down, maybe we wont notice. My bluegills were good, potato pancakes were very dark but not burned. Clam chowder should NOT be watery and should actually contain clams. The dining room they sat us in definitely had a mold problem. My husbands mold allergy immediately went crazy. We wont be back. read more

We (a group of 4 guys) went to Clearview after my father said he had a bad experience the last time he was there. We chalked it up to a bad night and thought we would give it a second chance. We went in for a Friday fish fry. Two of us tried the smelt fry and two of us tried the perch fry. Unfortunately the smelt were half fishy tasting and half good. 50% of the smelt had a fishy taste to them. The perch fry seemed over done. The perch seemed to be over fried and were dry. At $15.99 for the perch and somewhere similar for the smelt I would not waste the trip or the time. Also the potato pancakes that came with one of the smelt frys had been burnt pretty good. Hard to believe this place has 4 stars. This is the second time I had a bad experience and will not be back. Very disappointed!!! read more

Made a reservation for 7 pm on a Saturday night. Ordered the prime rib and was told they only had two end pieces left. Decided to try them as they were also out of lobster, ribs, and other items we were wanting. Was served overly well done pieces of basically beef roast at this point. Complained to the waitress and was only given $5.00 off. We were basically charged full price for meat that shouldn't have ever been served. Shame on them for ripping us off. Will never be returning. Clearview is a standard Northwoods Supper Club which is convenient from a lot of the different lodging options on Big Saint Germain Lake such as Lofty Pines where I stay sometimes. They make a nice cocktail and have a large, if strangely set up and underutilized bar area, in addition to a restaurant space with old school décor with a fairly nice view. I usually go on Friday's for the fish fry which is quite good and very reasonably priced - it's clearly frozen fish but it's cooked well at Clearview and comes with some nice enough sides so you have a tasty meal for under $10. I got a steak one time and it was not great so if you go with the more basic options you'll have an enjoyable Northwoods meal. Let's be honest, nobody in the area is doing, fresh seasonal cuisine so just go with the flow, don't expect anything too fancy, and complement your meal with an Old Fashioned, Manhattan, or some other classic cocktail. That's how you gotta roll in the Northwoods and Clearview does it pretty well. (FYI, they don't accept American Express but that's fairly standard for the Northwoods) read more
