What a hidden gem in the Northwoods! Can't believe there's an upscale Asian restaurant in this small town. Not only the food was delicious but the service and atmosphere were excellent!! I'm Chinese and know what good food tastes like. This hit high marks for me! The tuna salad is massive in portions and could easily feed two adults (the tuna nachos are the same portion size). Pro-tip- ask for dressing on the side so you can take leftovers home without eating soggy salads in the next day. Hubby ordered garlic chicken with rice plus crab cheese wontons. The stir fry was properly cooked in the wok and smelled and tasted incredible. And not drowned in brown sauce!! Kids meals are great too - mine loved the chicken drummies! HIGHLY recommend this restaurant if you want some great Asian food in a nice setting! The prices and portions will make you and your wallet happy! read more

Look, don't judge me too hard--I was stationed in California for eight long years, and that state celebrates all kinds of certified organic, gluten-free, sustainably sourced nonsense. But credit where it's due: CA does attract creative newcomers who can sling some seriously excellent cuisine. That said... the Gaslight Tavern up here in Wisconsin is quietly dropping better food than what you'll find on Fisherman's Wharf these days. Yes, I said it. While California is busy charging $48 for a "deconstructed" fish taco with edible flowers and a side of attitude, our fine-fusion spot in the Northwoods is serving up elevated dishes that actually taste like they came from somewhere real -- and you won't need a second mortgage or a safe word to enjoy them. Sometimes the best "California cuisine" is found 2,000 miles away in Wisconsin. Fight me. read more

Finally got to check this place out! Enjoyed a lovely dinner here with a friend. Service: Service was very friendly and prompt. Our server walked us through the drink and food specials and the menu. She shared that the staff tasted both entree specials and they were excellent. Drinks: I had the Almost a Mango Margarita. It was very flavorful and the Tajin on the rim really complimented it. Highly recommend. My friend had a Spotted Cow on tap. Regret not trying the McIntosh mule special, as that sounded good and was only $7. Food: We started with the Brussels sprouts & onion appetizer. This was excellent and enjoyed the Parmesan cheese on top. My guest had the GLT burger and fries. They could not stop talking about the high quality of beef and said this was one of the best burgers they had. I had the Mac & Cheese with pork shoulder. This was a hearty meal and I took 1/3 of it home. The pork shoulder and BBQ sauce really made the dish. My only criticism is there was too much cheese sauce on the shell pasta, and the balance seemed off. Their dessert was strawberry shortcake, but we were too full to try it. Hope to have dessert next time. Ambience: The restaurant has a big oval bar, which was hopping with customers. I have now eaten here 3x since opening with the new chef. My original thoughts were to compare to Lemongrass in Wausau, the closest Asian Fusion restaurant to Gaslight Tavern. While the atmosphere at GLT is very different than the cuisine, the food is top notch. Green curry is difficult to find in a rural area and the spices are well balanced, highly flavorful with some heat. I'd love to see a brown rice option and a spice scale for customization. Plan ahead or drop in early to have a chance at a table! Not currently accepting reservations. read more

We had a reservation for 6:30. My son did not get his food until 8pm. I've never had such slow terrible service at a restaurant. When our food finally came one entree came 20 min later. They said it was mix up in the kitchen. The food was mediocre. We will not be back. read more

Spectacular- just incredible. Hubby had the new fish fry with chili sauce and I had the Mongolian beef with a side of broccoli and I could not stop eating it! The meat was an incredible cut and the sauce was a very good flavor. Hubbys fish fry was crispy and fries were excellent- best place up here and we have been everywhere. So so good read more

Great option for the Northwoods. Pho, Mongolian beef and chicken all excellent and reasonable price! In house crab Rangoon and spring rolls also tasty. Best was staff service. We have a companion who uses a wheelchair and at last visit we noted a single step obstacle. In three weeks ramp was in place for all future guests. That is attention to customer needs! read more

I need to amend my previous review of Gaslight Tavern. The last review was due to a reservation issue but I went back again. This time I got to eat and oh my I'm so glad I did. My friend and I started out with Spring rolls for an appetizer. There were 6 crispy crunchy rolls which were very good. For my dinner I ordered the Tuna Poke Nachos and fried dumplings thinking the Tuna Poke would be just a small portion. OMG it was a heaping plate full. The nacho chips were cooked to a crunchy golden brown and topped with Tuna Poke. The Tuna mixed with a crunchy something was FABULOUS. Absolutely the best dish I've had in years. I wish I could describe it better but Yummy! The restaurant has more of an urban vibe than most restaurants up here. The waitstaff was well informed and quite friendly. I'm was utterly stuffed with the Tuna Poke so I didn't even get to the fried dumplings. This restaurant is definitely a gem, give it a try. read more

This place is definitely for a certain crowd. The dishes have a twist that most kids would not like. The biscuit basket appetizer was good. Came with about 5-7 biscuits, honey butter and a strawberry topping that was very good. After dinner we ordered the strawberry shortcake from the board. Strangely it came with three of the biscuits, the same kind as the appetizer and strawberry glaze with a powdered sugar dusting. It was more expensive than the appetizer but came with less of the same thing. So if you get the strawberry shortcake order another round of the biscuit basket instead. read more

We decided to try the Gaslight for dinner. Live 2 person band at the entrance playing ABBA's Dancing Queen etc. I'd say that the bar/restaurant was to small, or perhaps they were too loud? Don't want to sound old but it didn't make for good dinning experience, although the one inebriate at the bar loved the jam! Ordered the conch and fish fritters. Three fritters came out with an under seasoned aioli sauce under it. I have had conch and couldn't taste any of the giant sea snail. It was breading and ?? Lacked flavor without the fishes or protein substitutes. Our main dishes were the Walleye platter and the Pub burger. Pub burger was good and well cooked but lacked seasoning. I think the fries were Oreida fries, but that's okay. The walleye plate was one fillet of walleye?? I'm with the other dinner who stated it could be catfish! Fishy tasting and even lemon had problems covering the fishiness. The tarter sauce was good, and helped hide the fishy flesh of this pin bone infestation passed as walleye. There was a 1/4 cold biscuit placed on the plate too, what the heck?? Cole slaw was zucchini!! I have never had slaw made so awful. It was shredded zucchini with some type of vinegar sauce served in a condiment dish!! I'm not one to bash a restaurant that is trying to serve pretentious food. If you serve $$$ food make it worth the working persons wage or make sure it's flavor is unworldly. Service by the way was outstanding and salvaged the rating to two stars. read more

Lipstick on the wine glass. Bartender poured my Moscato from 2 different brands of white wine and neither was a moscato. Waitress didn't tell us the special or the soup. The dining room was so cold I had to wear my winter coat while eating. It too 40 minutes to get a rare steak and a grilled cheese sandwich and there wasn't anyone else in the place.
