Really enjoyed our dinner here. The building, location and ambiance is great. They are located on the water of the Eagle River chain so the view out of the entire wall of windows is stunning. Decor is undated rustic Northwoods. The light fixture above the bar is stunningly made from a huge tree trunk and has to be seen to be understood but trust me. It is beautiful. The dining room is spacious and welcoming. Our waitress was right on the ball. Arrived to our table promptly, was attentive but gave us space and time to visit and decide. Eventually, she came back with a warning of an upcoming big party so we ordered right away then and our meals came out in perfect timing. The lobster bisque was a very tasty starter for me and was a nice side option for my friend. No chunks of lobster but the seasoning and taste was just right, so no need for salting. I had the Kimchee ribs special. Wow! So tender and juicy. They slid right off the bone, and the wild rice side with avocado was tasty. My daughter had a "spicy" chicken wrap that they happily modified to not be as spicy and she loved it. My friend tried the mushroom Swiss burger that her husband had the previous time and it did not disappoint. My other friend had the brisket sandwich. The meat was tasty but a little dry. Could have used a little more sauce or juice. HOWEVER, he said that the yummy coleslaw on top served as a perfect "moistener". Overall a delicious meal was had by all. read more

I feel like kickback never quite lives up to my expectations, and it should probably deserve a higher rating given its quality vs other Northwoods eateries, but as an upscale grill where you're paying $28 for an entree, I feel the need to hold it to a higher standard. Plus it feels like kickback has the chance to be some of, if not THE, best food in eagle river. Solid service, Ambiance, And selection. Great bar. And we love being able to pull our boat up and park on-site, plus the patio and yard space is great for summer time eating and kids. This place is a great spot for north woods vibes. The food is good, service was great, and they have lots of gluten free options (which can be hard to find up north!) This place is awesome! We docked our boat and were greeted by a nice man who put us on the waiting list for outdoor dining. He set up bag toss for us to play and directed us towards the bar. Drinks were reasonably priced and the wait for a table was minimal. Food was delivered quickly and everything was great! I got the beet salad and tried the rueben sandwich with GF bread. The beet salad was way better than expected, great quality! My kids got cheese curds and chicken tender meals & my parents got burgers, again all very good. The fries were the only thing we were not a fan of as they were almost hollow inside. This place was awesome and we will return while we are here this week. Went for the first time and am happy to report that the food tastes just as good as it looks. Sitting outside gave us a perfect backdrop for a weekend evening meal. I had the blackened tuna on a brioche bun. Slaw was delicious and perfectly balanced. Like a delicious sushi treat supersized and perfectly cooked. We ordered a walleye special that was excellent and a generous portion. The brisket sandwich was enjoyed by a close friend and also a spicy shrimp wrap. All delicious. Used to come here alot before it was Kickback. Stopped coming because the old place closed. Found out this place opened and decided to give it a try. They do not seat you unless your whole party is present but we were seated immediately as soon as everyone was there. They have a really big bar and a small area of games for kids. Our waitress was really friendly and the view was absolutely beautiful. We ordered a bunch of apps and they were all really good. Food came out fast and hot. Everything we ordered was really good. My ONLY complain is that we got the lava cake for dessert and it honestly could have used some ice cream. They cake itself was really rich ans dense so that would have been nice to break that up. "Kick-Out" Grill is not Worth the Trouble On a Saturday evening after my Father's funeral, our plan to dine with 30 relatives was telephoned 4 hours in advance to this establishment for a 5:00 PM timetable. While 22 of us arrived at the time stated, eight were a bit tardy due to being from out of town, etc. This restaurant was chosen as it was an absolute favorite of my brother's family many times over. The poor customer service began as the waitstaff and hostess began whining about everyone in our party not being there at the same time. At 5:15, two four-top tables were given away that were being held for our stragglers. When my two out of town children came around 5:20, they were told to wait in the bar with a beeper hockey puck, and to expect to wait an hour! My elderly uncle from Texas and his date were also made to wait in the bar until we intervened. Our group asked to move the tables to allow more of us to fit together and we were told, "we don't do that!" Fast forward to the end of the meals; we all paid our bills (around $1,200.00 total) and a couple of us stood up to talk to others on the ends of the tables. A 40-something guy in casual clothing, wearing a baseball cap (who had been delivering cocktails from the bar) came to me and said, "you can't stand here and talk, we need to walk through here, you need to go into the bar!" My cousin (whom I hadn't seen in a long time) and I walked to a larger area just adjacent to the bar to finish our conversation. This guy (who later identified himself as "the owner," approached us again and said, I told you to go into the bar!" Mystified by his behavior, I asked him, was he TRYING to start trouble?" My cousin and I moved to the bar and he started pestering us again! Then the back and forth between he and I escalated to him telling me to leave! I told him that my brother who ate there often, spending good money would not be pleased by his outburst, and the ("owner") said, "I don't care!" For the record, alcohol was not a factor. My cousin reported to the group what had occurred and all 29 others left immediately, with some going back in to see this man to complain about the overall experience. Interestingly, as they were speaking (heatedly) to this man, several big sweatshirted, bearded, hat-wearing (wannabe bodyguard) men stood up from their barstools to maddog them by leaning in while they spoke. So classless and telling. If this guy was truly "the owner," his manner of ownership in a customer service industry is the absolute worst I've ever seen! His waitstaff obviously follows his lead and attitude, so there's that too. Skip this place unless you're a bearded, hat-wearing, good old local boy yourself. It's not worth the stress for a meal! He better hope his business survives a typical looooong northern WI winter when he can't afford to be as much of a jerk to unfamiliar customers. Of course no one from our group will ever return; even my brother. I hope that's what was this guy's objective, because he succeeded! read more

The Kickback Grill might look like a standard North Woods bar/resturant but inside you will find a gorgeous view of the lake and a unique menu which includes high-end cuisine. I chose the filet with a blue cheese and wine reduction sauce which was to die for. My dad raved about the Prime rib and sister loved the brisket pasta. We can't wait to go back. read more

This was my second time here and it was as good as the first. This summer we stopped here and were able to dine outside. The fish tacos were amazing. This time I went with the Cobb salad. My husband and I had dinner here tonight. It was the first time we'd been there in 30 years, when we knew it as Hiawatha. The food was great, with generous portions, and came out quickly. First time here in 10 years or so. Came by boat mostly because it was about to rain and wanted to stop. Very nicely done venue and service was great. Food came out fast for being very busy. Was very good. Was glad to see families with kids as we had a 4 year old and wasn't sure what the atmosphere would be for a kid. Nice to see it was come as you are but still has nicer food. Not super cheap but good service and food make it worth it. Nice to see a place that seems to have plenty of staff as there have been many disappointments with that in the last several months in other establishments. Arrived at 7:30 on a Friday night. We were told it would be a thirty minute wait. We went to wait at the bar. I went to check with the hostess at 8:15 and was told our table would be ready shortly. I went back to the bar and ordered another beer as it was too late to go to another restaurant. We finally got seated at 8:45 at a barroom table that had been vacant the whole time! Our server was outstanding, the fish fry was average, plus they had run out of bread. When the check came I got out my credit card and the server informed us that there was a 2% surcharge for using the card. I asked what percentage discount we were getting for not getting bread and for spending an extra $10 at the bar because we were seated 35 minutes after we were told. She said she'd check with her boss, no discount was given and the surcharge stayed. We live near here year round and we're regulars at the owners previous restaurant. Absolutely the best restaurant on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes, especially if you're boating! Plus they have Tribute Blueberry Train on tap! The bar is spectacular. The restaurant has huge windows with lake views. Or you can sit on the patio in the summer. The Haystack Onion appetizer is light and crispy and so good. My fav is the Beet Salad with cream cheese croquette. Hubby loves the Rueben and the Fish Tacos. The burgers are delicious too! Check their website or call ahead to ensure they're open.
