We were very pleasantly surprised by the menu, interesting choices. We had a salmon and maple flatbread for an appetizer, which could have been a meal by itself. My husband then had the prime rib, which came in three different tastes, he had the blackened version. It came with asparagus and fingering potatoes. He was not disappointed! I had an Ahi Tuna Salad, but was so full from the appetizer I could only eat the tuna and the avocado. Very impressive! read more

This spit needs management. Our bartenders talked to each other between every pour and not INCE to the customers. These folks rely 100% on being on the water. Who cares if the tap hasn't been cleaned and the bartenders give zip about their customers. NEVER again. read more

Fantastic Truffle fries!! Atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The view from the many windows is awesome. Every entree I have ordered has been delicious. Waitstaff is attentive and friendly (but not to the extreme). I do wish they were open more days for lunch so call or go on their website to see if they are open before you head over there for lunch. read more

Had an early dinner with the family here. Our server Karla was the best we have had in years anywhere. Prompt, helpful, attentive, knows the menu well and made great suggestions, and she was funny - "what service used to be like before COVID" quote from my husband. Drinks came quickly and Karla was mindful of when we needed more. Food was made with flavorful spicing and pairings that were sophisticated, fulfilling. We stopped here by boat earlier in the day and had some prime rib nachos on the patio, delish! We decided to come back for the fish fry later in the day. Grabbed a seat at the bar inside, had a yummy cocktail and put our name in for a table outside. Waited about an hour but that was fine because it s really great to see how busy they were in these crazy times. We both had the deep fried walleye and it did not disappoint! The fish was fantastic, so fresh and delicious! The service was awesome as well! The potato pancakes were so incredible and the sides were really tasty. So happy this place is doing so well. After our positive lunch experience led us to try fish fry on Friday night. Won't be back for this ... our wait staff was great, friendly and checked back often so no complaint there. Bartenders were friendly etc. But the fish was over cooked to the point of dry, small pieces about 5 inches (so half a loin) and the coating was salty to the taste. The fries were also dry, I didn't eat them at all. (McDonalds literally has better!) Many other better choices for this Friday tradition. Also my husband ordered broiled and ended up with the fried ... oh well. They were not able to judge the wait time. It turned in our favor as they said a half hour or more but it was literally 10 or 15 minutes. This is good but some folks might walk out if not accustomed to the wait times on Fridays and this is winter ... There is a skill to know what the table turnovers are going to be to judge this, so training is needed here. Conclusion: We will stick to lunch and the sandwich offerings, etc. Their haystack onions are worth a trip/drink but off our dinner list. (Eagle River ... one can find good food or good view but hard to find both in the same spot :( read more

Created a yelp account just to write this review. Very disappointed in our visit. We ordered drinks from the bar (bartender needs to learn how to pour an appropriate beverage. 2 seconds isn't a shot) and sat and waited for a server to bring us menus. Four different servers walked past us multiple times and we were not even greeted one single time. We waited for half an hour, finished our drinks (that were already paid for) and left. The bottom of our bar receipt says "we love regulars" and that's very clear. Very sorry we even visited. Absolutely DO NOT recommend patronizing this establishment. read more

If the service was as good as the food i would give 5 stars. The food although smaller in portion was very filling. I had the chicken and pasta which was very good I would get it again were I to eat here again. The Irish Mac and cheese was tasty although I am not too big of a fan, my fiancé had it. The service was ok we spent most of the night with an empty glass. I would understand if they were busy but they were practically empty. I was also charged twice for the meal and it is not the cheapest place to eat. I noticed on Monday when my phone alerted me but had to wait to call Wednesday because of their hours. Avoid at all costs. Tried twice, both horrible experiences. Owner touched my fiancé without permission. First time we had to sit ourselves, bartender clearly saw us but ignored us. We waited 15-20 minutes before a waitress showed up. We had order our drinks from the bartender because the waitress dropped off menus but didn't take drink orders. Food was bland and took ages. Second experience we ordered $38 steak special which was WAY over cooked (we ordered medium rare) and dry. We also ordered jalepeno poppers, which were so aggressively spicy that we had to return them. The owner refused to do anything about the over cooked steak and was extremely condescending about the jalepeno poppers being too spicy. Here's the kicker... the table directly next to us returned their jalepeno poppers as well. On the way out the owner was nearly pushing my fiancé out of the door. Inappropriate to touch a guest in any circumstances. Horrific customer service and equally terrible food. read more

Been vacationing up in Eagle River for years, and were delighted to give Kickback Grill a try. We had 2 meals during our week there, and were delighted each time, our second time we even sent a tip back to the kitchen. Our waitress Kim was excellent and the location was beautiful. Over the two days we tried everything from burgers, to wings, to soup, to the donuts! Cannot wait to return and share this great spot with our friends and family who spend time in the area. I love the flat breads , the jalapeno poppers are one of my favorites ever, the Cobb Salad with the avocado ranch or jalapeno ranch - so yummy, the burgers are juicy, the other day I had the blackened tuna special and it was the best tuna around.... We pulled in on a whim headed to a different restaurant on a snowy Saturday evening around 5:30. We were seated right away and there were only a couple other tables (off season + snow). Server was attentive and very pleasant, decent craft beer selection, and the bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers were very good and we appreciated something different than the standard options. Everything on the menu looked great but we each ordered from the specials...a cheese stuffed filet over asparagus and baby potatoes with some sort of sauce, and a wild rice and lobster stuffed pastry (an open top "pot pie" of sorts) with a micro salad. Both were AMAZING! The filet was cooked just right and the asparagus was perfect (hard for December sometimes). It's hard to find a decent restaurant in the northwoods that goes way beyond the normal "bar food". The Kickback has 5 start food cooked and created by what I feel is a 5 start chef. My wife and I are always looking for new places to eat in the north woods, and it was Kickback's turn last night. First take: the view of Duck Lake from the dining room is BEAUTIFUL! The service was great, including a nice conversation with the owner's brother, who took some time out from helping bus tables to tell us the history of the place, and all the work that went into getting it to where it is today. It has been beautifully rehabilitated to a modernized yet rustic vibe. The menu had more than enough interesting choices for us. The best part of my meal was a cup of seafood chowder that had a decidedly smoky flavor. My wife's flatbread was just about perfect (even with the gluten-free cauliflower base!). I had the honey garlic shrimp wrap, and will certainly order it again. We'll definitely be adding Kickback to our rotation for up north dining! Looking forward to trying their take on the Friday fish fry soon. read more

Let me start by saying I live in the Northwoods so I am accustomed to longer waits for seating/service at area restaurants due to tourism and lack of/hard to find quality servers. However there is NO EXCUSE for the treatment or lack of, at our latest attempt to dine at this establishment. Our party of four arrived at 6:20 PM. The place looked about as busy as your average restaurant on a Friday. I asked the hostess "what can I expect for a wait time? To which she reponded "25 minutes, 30 tops" sounds reasonable, so our party of four entered the bar to await our table. At the 45 minute my wife and in-laws were getting anxious and a bit hangry. "You know things move a little slow up here" I commented. At he one hour mark my BIL asks the hostess "what's going on here?" She responded "there is one couple ahead of you you should be seated soon" 20 minutes later we were lead to our seats. We sat there for an additional 20 minutes without a server in site. Looking around at the 15 or so other tables we noticed the majority of them, like us had no food, glasses of water, or anything else, just like us. At 8:00PM we just got up and left. As we were exiting the restaurant the hostess said "thanks for dining with us" I told her that we never got the chance and would be returning never. There are so many better dining choices in the immediate area do yourself a favor and pass on this one. BTW we drove over to 12 Pines, got seated immediately and enjoyed their wonderful Friday Fish Fry in less time than we spent waiting at Kickback.. read more

Long wait to get table so sat in empty bar. Wife ordered Merlot and was served a glass only 1/4 filled, I tasted my Spotted Cow draft and it tasted odd. I had already paid for the drinks. I gave it back to bartender and she said "No one else has complained". I told her I was and just wanted a bottle of Blue Moon instead. She dumped my beer and handed me the bottle of beer, stating "That'll be $4." I told her I wasn't paying again for a beer and she said " What am I supposed to do with it!" I asked for her manager. She talked to her instead of bringing her over and then they just stared back at me saying nothing. I told the hostess at the front and she just shrugged. We walked out and won't be back. Telling this story to a few other bartenders, they were shocked at such treatment and said they would have replaced it no questions asked! The atmosphere is wonderful as in the dining room there are huge windows to look out on the beautiful lake and the bar area is amazingly well renovated and intriguing.
