Wow this restaurant was wonderful! We both had the Walleye Piccata, cauliflower risotto, asparagus spears and chicken wild rice soup. It was a pleasant surprise, the soup had a broth base instead of a cream. The bread basket which was accompanied with the meal had three different spreads. Amazing! Left you wanting more but we were pleasantly satisfied. Our waitress was very attentive and had suggestions, only because she had tried menu items herself and enjoyed them. The ambiance and history of the structure was intriguing. It was originally a Milwaukee Road Railroad Depot. We were so looking forward to coming here due to the reviews. We finally got reservations and walked in giddy with excitement and anticipation. Then we met the staff. Aloof and rude sums it up best. We were curtly seated at a table closest to the door. Not the end of the world but it was February and cold outside. Again, it wasn't a deal breaker and we remained optimistic. The Bartender then came over and asked us if we wanted drinks. We started to go around the table and after three of the five of us said what we wanted, he rudely walked away without saying anything. A few minutes later he returned with three drinks and simply said, "what else". He brought the remaining two drinks and left. The drinks were off. One of our party ordered an amaretto stone sour. It started HORRIBLE. Another drink was a Tito's and tonic with lime. Got a Tito's and Tonic with a lemon. Another drink was a Cosmo. A Cosmo should have been pretty stiff drink. It tasted like there was absolutely no alcohol whatsoever. The waitress was curt and simply didn't care about us and rarely came to check on us for drinks or how we were doing. The food tasted Excellent. We did think that one of the dishes "seafood Alfredo" was over priced at $36 for two shrimp and two scallops, but it tasted good and the price of food is higher now, so the price wasn't a problem. Back to the seats close to the door. Many people came in and out and it was chilly but the most annoying thing was the bartender leaving the through the door every 10-15 for a cigarette and a drink right outside the front door. Not only was it cold every time the door opened but when he came in the smoke followed him in. Another group came in and nobody came over to them. The last person from the group went to the bartender and politely asked if there was additional parking somewhere as the parking lot was full (although there were plenty of empty seats in the place). He abruptly shook his head and said "No" as he walked away from her. We understand that staff is hard to find nowadays but between the attitide of the Waitress and the Bartender we will never be back. We felt unwanted and that they were annoyed we were there. Dinner last night at Anthony's Ristorante was AMAZING! The Walleye Piccata was soooooooo good. Perfectly prepared - seriously the best Walleye I've ever had. My boyfriend really enjoyed the Seafood Alfredo. Loaded with large shrimp and scallops and nicely balanced Alfredo sauce. And THE CANNOLI! Must have THE CANNOLI. The owners, Tony & Katy are warm, personable, friendly and talk about hard workers. We had such a great experience, we went back later the same night with 2 friends and enjoyed a couple of drinks while they ate at the bar. The entrees were very good and the service was fine, but a couple of complaints. With every entree, they include either soup or salad as a starter, there was no bread, roles, crackers, etc. served with them. There was no salt and pepper on the table, either. When a person at our table asked our server for parmesan cheese for his entree of chicken parmesan, he was told it was not available. Our pasta entrees were $32, which I feel is a bit pricey, but at that price should have been a better overall meal. read more

We went back again last night. The Old Fashions were great. I can't say enough about the linguine & mussels. The sauce they are in is so rich and flavorful. So, this restaurant came highly recommended. I was unfortunately disappointed in this place. When we walked in, there are tables right there and the hostess station is next to the bar behind all the tables so you have to make your way back there to check in. . We had a reservation for 7:30, we got there about 7:20 and had to wait which was fine because we wanted a drink at the bar first. I ordered a drink, but before our drinks were made the bartender asked me if we had a reservation. When I said yes, he proceeded to make our drinks. My old fashioned was really, really good, totally worth the $12, I even ordered a second! We finally sat down, around 7:30, finally had our order taken around 8, took 35 minutes to get our salads and another hour to get our food. For a Saturday night at 7:30 they were out of ALL filet dishes, which was ok because we all wanted pasta. My friends ordered shrimp Alfredo, after about an hour of waiting we were told that they only had enough shrimp for one meal, so one person had to change their meal. My friend and I ordered chicken Alfredo, which in a "nicer" place I expect a grilled chicken breast on top of my noodles. This dish had small chunks of chicken mixed in, which overall was fine, just not what I was expecting. The flavor of the Alfredo was ok, nothing special. I would go back for drinks but certainly not food. My friend ordered a refill of coke and was handed a can of coke- unopened and not poured into her glass. it was very odd. We were never asked if we needed more drinks, we had to flag her down and ask for them, also there was no salt and pepper on the table, when we went to find our server, she was sitting at the bar! There are only about 12 tables in the whole place and service was not the greatest. Will most likely not return to this place. read more

Anthony's was highly recommended to us by a friend. We live in the Northwoods and were excited to try it. The food was excellent. The prices are high, but reflect the quality of the food and cooking. Our waiter was a professional and respectful man. The atmosphere was awesome. We will never return again. The bartender made me a martini in a glass that had lipstick stains on it. I respectfully asked him to remake it. The waiter, who was so good, was apologetic. When I ordered a second drink, the bartender intentionally mocked me. Held the glass up, spun it around a few times and then loudly proclaimed, I wouldn't want it to have any lipstick marks on it. We are in a pandemic. What a poor decision to hire a guy like that. Anthony's is a secret Liason, an Amore, justly described by a previous review. We came to see for ourselves. It's simple exterior hides a woodsy log interior where dining is intimate and exceptional. I asked that the Walleye be skinless, and I was handsomely accommodated. We have been Wisconsin natives for five decades, and we simply didn't imagine a custom fine dining experience the likes of Anthony's existed near Woodruff. The charming couple that began this restaurant, Katy and Tony, served us barside (Katy) and grill side (Tony). It's clear from listening (eavesdropping at the bar) that they have their hearts on this little bistro, and the patronage on a Sunday was surprising, a day when Chicago patrons would have been gone. The Walleye was the finest I've had, and I've had a lot. Don't bring the kids, bring your date. It's a little pricey, but your date will find your knowledge of the Minocqua area's fine dining to your credit. Try Amthony's. read more

Absolutely delicious. Enjoyed meeting the owners Tony & Katy and learning their personal connections to the Northwoods, one could make the case that the historic Milwaukee Road depot that houses Anthony's Restaurante is the perfect melding between Star Lake and Tomahawk, WI - their respective home towns. Loved the historic, charming, and kitchy atmosphere of the log railway depot. We've driven by a hundred times and never taken the time to stop, honestly one of my bigger mistakes as the hospitality at Anthony's Restaurante was genuine and "home town", and the food was excellent. Our entrees were delicious; she had the seafood alfredo and I had the Jamison Filet. Both served with icy crisp house salads and cranberry butter for the slices of french bread. This was our first visit and most certainly will not be our last, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and our meals. Thank you Katy and Tony for making us feel so welcome. read more

Made reservations at 5:00 when they opened. Place is decorated great, Musky photos and taxidermy fish very amusing and interesting memorabilia. We order the drink special "peach margaritas ", and was informed they ran out. It just opened at 5:00! Next we decided to try the seafood fettuccine. Pasta and Alfredo were done well, scallops done perfectly came with jumbo shrimp *note to chef, please remove tails before serving in an Alfredo sauce. We had a salad that didn't have much lettuce 1 cherry tomato and a tiny piece of carrot (nothing to speak of) but it was fresh and could have used some ground black pepper (we were not asked). The dish was $38.00. I wanted to give their Risotto a try, epic fail , more like rice pilaf . I would hate to see what Gordon Ramsey would have done with this. Told them it did not taste very good and I was still charged. The cannoli cake reigned King with this entire meal. It was delicious and would recommend highly, I may even go back for a piece to go. I hope you are planning to lay down some cash,this is an old school supper club apparently catering to a more elderly crowd. There was a significant lack of seasoning overall. I will say my cocktail was delicious I had the special of the day ,maple whisky sour I'm not even a whisky fan but it was quite good. The bread was served with strawberry basil butter (tasty) too bad the bread was stale. The waitress was cheerful and friendly. She should be aware that voices travel from the kitchen and her entire conversation with the chef was overheard. I also ordered the special (macadamia encrusted mahi mahi) served with mashed potatoes and 2 asparagus spears. It was not encrusted it had some macadamia nuts sprinkled on top after a pineaple salsa. The fish was tender and juicy and had a sear on one side. I also order a piece of the "homemade Guinness chocolate cake with bailey's irish cream frosting" For $8 I was expecting it to be amazing sorry but no it was dry cake with a very boozy whipped frosting. The frosting would be amazing on top of a coffee. When you walk in it's candlelight and lots of cabin fishing decor. I was expecting better especially with the prices.The chef seems to take himself very seriously, the menu states no substitutions because they are proud of their recipes. This place was questionable from the moment we walked in. It took someone (which we found out was the owner - Katy) five minutes to at least acknowledge we were there. Not sure why she was serving as she had a scowl on her face and clearly needs to learn basic serving skills as well as customer service skills. She seemed to be agitated when asked about their menu. After placing our order, we waited over 20 minutes and still no first course (salad). We decided to pay our bar bill and just leave. Never going back and will certainly not recommend this place. We had heard about this place and wanted to try it. It's run by a cute couple. And based on our three entrees that our party had I'm surprised they've ever had a negative review. My daughter had the walleye Piccata which is the best fish dish any of us have ever tried. Disappointing and over priced. We hadn't eaten here for several years, we were disappointed to find nothing had changed. The front room is great but far too loud. Although all of the tables were empty at 6:30 on a Friday night we were led to the uninteresting back room. The waiter said they were really busy, no one else sat at the tables in the back room either. Pretentious. The chianti was good. I ordered chicken Marsala on linguini ,hoping to avoid heavy creamy sauces described for most of the pasta dishes. When it arrived, it was essentially alfredo sauce with a splash of Marsala. My Wife and I came to eat her for our anniversery. Very nice quaint old building.With its full log's and high ceiling make it very charming. I had a cranberry old faishion and my wife had a Majito, Both were very good. We started with a fried motzarlla. Now this is not your typical appatizer. First all there apps are hand done fresh when you orde them.No frozen junk here. I had the Jameson tenderloin and my wife had the Blackened catfish with the shimp creole sauce. My stake was so tender you cut it with a spoon. The jameson sauce was awsome. This is one good steak. my wife's catfish was very nicely done not to spicey. The shirmp sauce was outstanding!! They do not offer a lot of deserts only two I think. They are made right here by the chief (Tony) We went with the gunnis chocolet cake with the Bailys frosting. OK this is awsome. In fact we took some home for my Dad.(he liked it as well). Next time we will try the truffle pie. All and all I'm glad we picked this little place. Almost turned our anniversary into a train-wreck! After personally stopping by Anthony's 10 days in advance to make a reservation for a table near the fireplace, my wife and I arrived to be greeted by the same woman that took my reservation. Now, she had rigged two tables butted together near the fireplace with "Reserved" signs on both tables for a large party. When I told her I had reserved a table at the fireplace, she tried to seat us at a table near the kitchen entrance (tacky). I guess a party of 6 trumps a party of 2 even though a customer makes a reservation at this place. This was the second year in a row that this happened when I asked for that table. They disappointed me again on our anniversary. . . . . .so my wife and I walked out. I'm grateful they motivated me to go to a better place to dine and celebrate. We went to a nicer place nearby that treated us like a King and Queen without any reservation and with nicer ambiance e.g. carpet on the floor instead of concrete, etc. In fact, I didn't have a reservation here and we were promptly seated in front of the fireplace and the food and service was magnificent.
