I am so prone to not going to restaurants less than 4 star but decided to try this one. Honestly the reviews make me wonder how because we had a great experience overall. Food was delicious, our server was so sweet and smiling the whole time I swear. Lumpy's ( that name still cracks me up) on a the lake and mega neon signs to stimulate anyone for eye candy while you wait for your food. I ordered the cod sandwich. I asked for no cheese but had no idea how humongous that thing would be. Really enough to split but I don't really love to share . It was one long piece of fish fried and heavy duty style. Also the local blueberry wheat beer was a true gem of a find. Don't always go with the same thought of less than 4 star don't bother. The bartender at lumpy's was horrible. Ignored us knowing we wanted to order food. He took orders from 4 other patrons and then told us he doesn't take orders at the bar. He just waits on the rich. Really. Everytime we went in there before the other bartender took our order and we got great service. This dude was NOT a good bartender. He also started to talk crap about the other bartender. Not good. And I've bartended for years,,, you don't argue with the customers. Service is by all means gone for us. Not going back. read more

Great place to eat. The food was very good and honestly feel the perch fish fry rivals all the local establishments. Try it and you will agree. Friday fish fry last evening was the worst ever! Waited about 10 minutes to take our drink order, another 10 to receive them and order food. A few tables in the restaurant and maybey a dozen at the bar. Not too busy. Our dinners came out 30 minutes later. 2 with french fries, we're cold and soggy. 3 ordered chips and the were not warm. Fish was on the cool side. Our server was no where to be found, after we were almost finished, she asked if we needed anything. I proceeded to let her know about the food and she started crying and said she was dealing with another unhappy customer and was having a bad night, then disappeared again. We asked for the manager and tried once agto let her know and her reply was that I made her waitress cry! The bartender asked us to pay our bill and leave. The real kicker was that we paid cash and were charged a card fee of $4.30 !!! We will never return!!! read more

I was craving chicken fried steak and their's did not disappoint. The meal was delicious. We also ordered the Alamo burger and it was great but the fries that came with it were even better. Worth the upcharge. Service was great. Atmosphere was fun. Will be going back several times before the summer is over. read more

I have been coming up to Eagle River with my family every summer for 20+ years. We always go out to dinner and Lumpy's used to be one of our faves. We went on a Friday and I get that it's a weekend and also fish fry so I had no issues waiting as service up here is abit slow in general. So we went for dinner we waited at least 15 min before the hostess even took our name but fine. We were told 20-30 min even though our name was next on the list. We waited and as we were waiting started to notice tables of 2 and 3 ppl seated before us even though they came after us so thought ok maybe because we were a bigger party. Then a table of 5 went before us and another. Finally the next ppl that walked in I watched and they were seated!!!! Went to the hostess and said excuse me we were here before a few tables and have been waiting she said oh sorry your name was crossed out... WHAT??!! How when they didn't even call it? So fine we sat down for dinner and it took at least 1/2 hr for apps. Food kinda sucked but we were so hungry we just ate it. Needless to say they didn't offer to comp apps or anything for the mixup and unfortunately this restaurant will be off our list. 2 hours for sandwiches, fish and a pizza is ridiculous. read more

Very poor service and very unprofessional. We waited over 15 minutes just for the waiter to come to our table and then another 15 minutes for just water. We even had to pour our own water. Never got any silverware. The area we were seated at was extremely cold and cold air was blowing right on us. We asked to move, but the waitress said that they need to keep it cold so they don't get heatstroke. The other empty tables were apparently spoken for so they couldn't put us there. The bartender was rude and said eat at home next time. One order was completely wrong. It was supposed to be a bacon cheeseburger and it came out with a plain piece of meat between a bun and then she come the waitress comes out with a bowl with some lettuce and onions and tomato that we were supposed to put on our burger ourselves. There was no bacon or cheese at all. Then I got a chicken bacon wrap, and there was plastic that was in my wrap. Extremely disgusting. Will never go there again! read more

To start off... this place has a really awesome interior. Something exciting everywhere you look. Huge place. Lots to do. Drinks were good and cold, not hard to mess up. Staff were interesting. Friendly to customers but did not seem to like each other at all. Strange dynamics. We didn't try any food but saw some that people ordered and it looked decent. Average. This is a really cool spot. Non descript from the outside but walk into this 100yr old building and it's nothing but personality, good service and really good food. Although, I will admit the grilled chicken sandwich was just a grilled chicken sandwich... the beefeater was AMAZING. Holy man, what a sandwich. The menu was full of great options. Very average food and the service is just odd. We sat at the bar a couple of times and had to wait for a waitress to take our food order despite the bartenders standing right there doing nothing. Sat at a table the 3rd time and none of the waitresses seemed to want to own us. Once our order was taken then things moved a long. Seems like a good place to go to watch football, when you have time to sit and wait. Otherwise I'd probably skip it. No view of the water. read more

Local here that literally lives down the road and been a patron since 2009. I've been holding back reviewing in hopes this place would bounce back but it's no bueno. I've had about 7 fish frys from here in the last 4 years and they've all been a mushy, greasy mess. Which is too bad because they used to be good. The service has also gone way downhill. They've got to be loosing money on drinks because 8/10 times your server will never return to ask if you'd like another or to check on you in general. I had 2 experiences where an appetizer was forgotten from my to go order and when I've called to tell them I've been told "tell us next time we'll add it" (it's the mozzarella sticks in like a wonton) yeah, no. They must just write it on a scrap paper or something because they've refused to reimburse me both times. To do that to a 10 year regular that literally lives down the street within walking distance is pretty low IMO. Save yourself and drive by this place. read more

Phil is a great bartender. He makes great drinks, always cracking jokes, laughing, and helpful to the waitresses when they need it. In food service you couldn't ask for a better bartender. That man deserves a RAISE! As for Lumpy. He is hit or miss on his attitude. read more

Frozen Burgers. I was disappointed that the burgers weren't hand patted. They were thin and dry. Also, service was particularly slow. Our waitress was on her own schedule. The ambiance was nice though. Lots of promotions for Octoberfest and a nice crowd. I wouldn't go back for the burgers though. read more

I've been hesitant to try this place just because the name putts me off and is uninspiring. I'm glad I finally tried it. Sport's bars are just not my thing. At least this enclosed porch is available. Out here one feels a little removed from the hustle and bustle of the main dining room where the TV screens are located. The extensive menu selection is appreciated. However, it does lack originality due to the fact that it's all items we've seen before. The French Onion Soup and home made Chicken Pot Pie are recommended. The steak and mushroom soup is not recommended due to the fact that it has a gelatinous quality to it. The rest of the menu items I've had so far are fine, but don't stand out. read more

Went here with the family on a Thursday night in August so we could grab some dinner and watch the first place Brewers as we don't have cable at our cabin. When we walked in, the Brewer game was on the only TV that's visible in the dining room. We positioned ourselves specifically around the table so those who wanted to watch the game could see the TV. The waitress even made a comment about musical chairs, so she knew we were watching the TV. Two minutes later, the Brewer game is switched off and the Bears pre-season game is turned on with their reincarnation of Cutler looking exactly like he should - on the ground. Someone at the bar had asked to turn on that game. Fine, understandable, but we asked the waitress, can you turn our TV back to the Brewer game that was originally on? She LIED TO US and said that all the TVs have to be on the same channel and that people wanted to watch the Bears game, in WISCONSIN. Our protest went unheeded. Later, after going to the restroom, I could see that two of the six TVs in the bar area (none of which are visible sitting in the dining area) had been turned to the Brewer game while the rest were on the Bears. 10 minutes later, the bartender comes into the dining area, lowers the huge screen, and puts the BEARS GAME on that one. Then she goes to the TV we were originally watching the Brewer game on, and tries to put the CUBS game on that one. But I thought all the TVs had to be on the same channel?? What a joke of a wait staff/bartender. The food was meh, the service was extremely slow (10 minutes to get a beer, 30 for the food) and there were only 7 tables of people in the entire place. Stopped in for an early dinner on Saturday June 25. Liked the decor, staff was friendly. I had the prime rib, which was good. My dad had the perch basket, which I tried a bite of and it was delicious. Also ordered by our group were the pulled pork sandwich, a chicken sandwich, and a wrap and all were good. The best BLT (even though my BLT is bacon lettuce toast only.) 1LB of bacon on your sandwich with extra lettuce. Fills you right up. Popcorn to snack on when you walk-in fill it up and take to your table. The men who love steak (from what I hear from my father) love the steak. Love the broasted chicken there. Probably the best sports bar in the area. Lots of televisions, including a huge projection screen they drop down for big games. Also filled with a ton of different beer signage old and new. They generally do a good job getting us seated, even when we have large parties. Food is good, and menu is pretty good. Tonight they were out of grilled chicken, and we have had issues with ingredient outages before, but they were also nice enough to make one of us a Reuben even though it's now off the menu. Free WiFi, but minus one star for not having any good microbrew beers, and no IPAs at all. :( read more

I can't believe I had to pay money to be treated like garbage. This is sadism disguised as hospitality. At the end I was supposed to have been grateful to have been served some of the food we ordered. We had 1 round of drinks after waiting ONE FULL HOUR (we ordered immediately upon sitting down). Meanwhile the bar tender's customers sitting at the bar get round after round. The servers were all very young, had to double as hosts, and were overwhelmed. There was no one older who seemed to be in charge who could ask the bar tender to consider the tables. We ordered a 2nd round as soon as apps arrived (before the 1st round had arrived), that 2nd round never did come. As we finished our decent food, the over burdened server told us our drink ticket was next in line for tables. That didn't mean much and 15 minutes later while bar patrons laughed away our server arrived sheepishly with the check and said it looked the drinks might still take awhile. We were there 2 hours. They managed to serve us one round of drinks (5 of us, all drinkers who would have had a few), while people lined up outside waiting for a table Are they trying to lose money? I guess if you have kids and are so beat down you don't care anymore how you are treated as an adult you can go here and let your kids run around for 2 hours while no one serves you. Otherwise stay at home if nothing else is open. read more

This was a nice surprise. We needed a late lunch on Saturday after looking at some properties. Our agent sent us here and we found a decent menu with some healthy and well prepared options. The Chicken cranberry wrap and Veggie wrap with both very good. The service was good and Lumpy himself was working hard behind the bar with a busy room watching the Badgers.
