We just finished a round of golf nearby and my friend recommended we stop here bc of the pizza special. Top notch service, we had a disc that notified us no longer than 5 minutes since it was busy for a Thursday. Chicago and Wisconsin themed walls along with many slot machines. Very chill vibes. Quickly seated and had local beers from breweries that were very good. We then ordered some curds that didn't make it in the photos bc we were starving. On Tuesday (August 12th), early afternoon we were looking for a place to eat outside with our dog after an unsuccessful late morning of fishing. They were already pretty busy and not serving in the beer garden. They had some great local beers on tap. I asked the bartender, how to get food if sitting outside. She said the grill was pretty backed up and pizza was our best bet. I ordered two Muskie Bites and a Pub Special pizza (without peppers). We sat in the beer garden with our puppy. A family sat nearby. Their young girl entering first grade, showered our puppy with attention. I ordered a White Legs (a jalapeño wheat ale), also on tap - excellent! The bartender Ambee brought the pizza out herself. It was really great - and without the green peppers as ordered. We were quite pleased. She was once of those servers that you have to admire. Professional, didn't dawdle, acknowledged my presence while waiting at the bar, when it was my turn to be served, she was quickly informative. Turns out she gave great advice on the pizza. They definitely have the best wings around and their pizza is fantastic, recently was our first fish fry. You get four pieces of haddock either deep fried or Cajun baked, both were great. Even though the potato pancakes were commercially made, they were some of the best I've had. The only downside was the coleslaw was vinegar based rather that creamy but that's a personal preference. We came in and immediately were seated on memorial day around 6 pm. The waitress was really nice !!!!!! Young blood female, don't know her name, I ordered a wine Zinfandel to drink and a cheeseburger ! my burger was super Juicy and delicious. The 14" pizza had a crispy crust and was pretty good. Corn dogs were rated a 5/5 by the kids. The ribs were fall off the bone. They were delicious according to my husband. Super fun place to stop in if you are staying in the area. read more

Buried deep in the northern Wisconsin north woods is this gem of a bar/restaurant. It was a Tuesday night and the place was packed! I gotta think that every vacation cabin in the Sayner area was empty! Even though almost every parking spot around the building was full, we actually walked in and got a table. (Big groups had to wait). Because of Yelp reviews we felt we had to order a pizza, but I was intrigued by "The Legionary" Steak Sandwich. Of course we got both...and we were not let down by either!!! The pizza had a tasty thin soft crust and all the toppings were plentiful. Definitely a winner and has my stamp of approval! The steak sandwich was tender and smothered with cheese and onions. It did have a little grizzle, but I just cut it off. (The onions and cheese are extra I think). This was a huge sandwich served on a hoagie with au jus for dipping. Also very good. The sandwich came with a side, for the fun of it I tried the cucumber salad. So different than your usual fries or baked potato. It's sliced cucumbers in a sour cream sauce... it think your gonna like it! Even though I gave this place 5 stars, there were some issues. We ate at 6:30 on a Tuesday (Taco Night!) and they were out of a lot of foods from the menu (more than just a few) Also, even though we got seated quickly, we did have to wait a long time to get our check at the end. Overall I enjoyed the food and the location so much it was easy to overlook any shortcomings. Hope to make it back again soon. read more

First time going to Sayner Pub so we have nothing to compare it to with the former owners' food. The pizza was outstanding. It is thin crust and cut into squares which just so happens to be my preference. If you like thicker or doughy crust, this isn't for you. Topping were generous and the whole thing cooked perfectly. The blue cheese salad had an unusual mix of toppings, including cranberries and a snack mix, but it totally worked and was delicious. The others in our party really enjoyed the steak sandwich and taco special. Although I did not try their food, I'm knocking a star for using store bought premade taco shells. That's just blasphemous! One of our favorite places to go! Staff is always super friendly and the ambiance is great! I love the fish and deer on the wall plus the mermaid!! Lol. Food is great! Service was trying, but it looked like the management (owner?) was in a bad mood and it showed.Just not a nice place to enjoy yourself. Our group of 8 has been to the Sayner Pub many times over the years and I understand it's a busy place-but our experience was so bad I had to write this review. It started at the bar where we had a few rounds of drinks and ordered appetizers Walleye Bobbers and Deep Fried Green Beans that order was placed at around 5:25 we got seated at our table at 6:10 and still no appetizers. Appetizers finally showed up 10 minutes later after we place our dinner order. Now on to the dinner 2 Pizza's, 2 Reuben's, 2 piece chicken dinner,Pub Wrap and over an hour and we still did not see our food . One of our Party went over to the bartender and asked to see the manager, bartender said he would send him/her over well that never happened. We all left the Sayner Pub with the same bad taste in our mouth on how the Kitchen really made our experience god awful. read more

Surely went downhill Since last winter. Had a "legendary" steak sandwich and it was Probably the worst steak sandwich that I've ever tried to eat. Really fatty and gristly steak that you had a hard time chewing. Zero flavor. Onion rings We're Severely over cooked. My friend had jalapeño poppers and chicken wings ( also Overcooked and dried out). Wasn't a happy experience at All. Hopefully it was just a BADCOOK and not the start of the demise of that place. I have been coming up north since I was a little girl. When we are here, you have to go to Sayner Pub. Their Bloody Mary's are amazing. Just consider your drink your appetizer. It comes with a garden of veggies, meat, cheese, and a beer shooter. We have not been up here in 5 years. They may have new owners but the food did not disappoint at all! We started with cheese curds. You come to WI, you must get cheese curds. I had the French dip with Sweet Potato fries. They were both delicious. Let me just say the sweet potato fries are a waffle cut fry. Amazingly good! My son had a double burger with cheese, he devoured it. His girlfriend had the veggie pizza and really enjoyed it. Great sports bar in the north woods! They have a fabulous large bar with ample TVs. Also a small game room with a pool table, and a small dining room. We enjoy coming here for Wisconsin games, staff have always been friendly and bartenders make a great bloody. They have a large following of dedicated customers and get busy quickly. My wife and I just finished a "traditional" WI Friday Night Fish Fry at the Sayner Pub. We were pleasantly greeted immediately upon entering the building. She had the baked, and I had the blackened cod dinner. Both meals were done to perfection!! The potato salad and the cole slaw were both excellent also. And not to forget, the draft beer selection was very diverse. We will be returning sometime in the near future for their amazing looking (viewed the table next to ours) pizza! This pub was recommended for its great pizza but it was a bit of a disappointment. We ordered the pizza fries which probably would have been much better if they had been hot when we got them. Nice thin crust but would have been better with some garlic for a little flavor. The special pizza that day was a BLT pizza, a 12 inch pizza with thin crust and semi cooked bacon with chopped lettuce and tomato on top with a Mayo like drizzle. It was underwhelming, and overpriced. The meat lovers pizza was the best but still a little on the bland side. Overall it was just okay, the food at the tables around us looked good so maybe pizza isn't the best choice depending on your pizza preference. We arrived here on a Wednesday at 5:30 and were told it would be a 45 minute wait for 2 people for dinner. 1 3/4 hours later I went to check on our reservation and was told we were next up. At 2 hours wait I went in again and was told again that we were next. I'm sorry but a 2 hour wait is not acceptable and I can't imagine the food is worth that kind of a wait. We come exactly once a year for the Bloody Mary's and the broasted chicken. It's become a bit of tradition. The Bloody Mary's are legendary, and we understand their old fashioned's are as well. We had one of each this time, and the Mary's remain awesome. The old fashioned? Well, I guess they aren't really our type of drink, so can't comment really. They make them three ways...so if that's your thing, give it a try. The broasted chicken is fantastic on a good night, and on a not good night, well, it can be overdone. This year it was done perfectly and arrived so hot to the table the pieces were steaming inside some 15 minutes later. They don't always offer on carryout if they are busy-- so call ahead to make sure if you want to take out vs. eat in. If you're there on a busy night (read: Fridays or anytime around the 4th July) all bets are off in terms of wait time, food availability (one year they ran out of chicken) and quality of service. It must be very difficult to run a restaurant with occasional massive surges and most of the rest of the time relatively light traffic. At least this year they got a table paging system. read more
