We found this place by chance and so walked in without reservations. They initially turned us away but with further discussion and a few cocktails at the bar eventually made room to accommodate us. As with many cases this season they were very short staffed and trying to offer good service to those that had made reservations. Our server had several tables including one of 16 people. I can't believe how good the service ended up being with Karen our waitress. As a seasoned vet in this Industry she was on top of everything. Additionally the food was Breyer than I had hoped for. We all started with the salad bar which was clean and organized. They did end up running out of ranch dressing which was a disappointment but that was the only thing that fell short the entire evening. After the salads the four of us has the French onion soup which was better than most I've had. This was followed by our main course. Two of us has the 10 oz. Fillets, on had the 16oz ribeye and lastly one liver and onions. All the steaks were fabulous and the liver was also good from what I hear. There was no rushing, Karen our server timed out servings perfectly and the evening turned out spectacular. A big kudos to the Manager for getting us in. This will be a part of our rotation moving forward. Don't forget to make reservations! read more

We've been coming here for 14 years, but after our latest visit, we won't be back. A few years ago, the restaurant changed ownership. They remodeled the interior, and while some may like the update, we miss the old-school supper club atmosphere. The menu has also been cut down and is now pretty bare bones. The service was slow even though the restaurant wasn't busy. We waited over 30 minutes for our food, and they forgot our appetizer. The prices have increased, but the quality and value have definitely gone in the opposite direction. I always ordered the Pub Special and could never finish it because the portions were so generous. This time, the portion was noticeably smaller, the bun was soggy, the sandwich had no flavor, and the au jus was only lukewarm. To make matters worse, fries are now an extra charge. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. A place that was once one of our favorites has lost the atmosphere, quality, and value that kept us coming back for so many years. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more

They have a gluten free section on the menu but the chef doesn't have a clue. I ordered ground steak off the gf menu and told the server i needed gf as listed on the menu. It came topped with breaded onion straws which i removed and then found the meat covered with a creamy flour based gravy. I sent it back for a new order while the rest of the group ate. I asked to see a manager to complain and the server said the owner wan't there and didn't seem to be a manager there. The server said the chef wasn't familiar with the gf menu. Wow read more

First off, this was one of the best restaurants in Rhinelander back in the day. One of my mother's and my favorite years ago. I recently moved back to Rhinelander and had to check it out again. The place looks the same which I love. Our waitress was nice and attentive. We waited for over an hour for our food and there were only about 10 customers. I had the salmon with risotto. The end of it was fishy tasting and the risotto was mushy. The other two at my table ordered their alfredo. They liked theirs, but when I looked at it, I wouldn't have liked the spiral noodle they used. I felt they were overpriced too. read more

While traveling through Rhinelander, we stopped at the Rhinelander pub and Café. We looked online at the menu and when we arrived there, none of it was the same as was posted my husband ordered the haddock fried and battered, and I had the meat buffet with salad bar, the plate that arrived was not battered, but grilled for the haddock, and before I could even have one serving of the buffet, they were already out of some of the items. I had the ribs that were sitting in water. The brisket was cooked well, but they run out quickly and the two chicken wings I had were overcooked. I would not recommend this place and they need to change the menu that they show on the website it is misleading prices are at least 40% more than what is listed on the Internet. Busted her butt for waitress. Jennifer was fantastic and busted her butt and busted her butt for us. If anything I would say the Salad bar was nice other than that give the place a pass I don't care read more

I would go back again for the salad bar, but not for the ribs. The ribs were tough and very hard to eat (definitely not the fall off the bone). Sauce was okay, but didn't make up for the tough meat. Meals come with a trip to a well stocked salad bar with great blue cheese dressing. Might be willing to try a different meal just to get any other trip to the salad bar! Liked my waitress and service. Bar made good a good Old Fashion. read more

We had been traveling all day and stopped here for dinner. The building is charming, and we were seated promptly. Our server was very friendly and made some great recommendations. They have a small salad bar, make their own dressing , and our meal came with 1 trip. This was a plus. We ordered french onion soup and cheese curds, and I had steak tenderloins with gorganzola cream sauce. My dinner companions had the pork chop. The cheese curds were okay, not greasy at all , but they lacked individual flavor. My steak was chewy and lacked seasoning, which was unfortunate because the sauce was flavorful and had a good consistency. The pork chop bites I tried were good, not great, and overall the entire meal was just okay. I had expected more, especially for the price. I do want to end this review with a positive. The French onion soup was divine, and I would go back here for a drink. The old fashioned was nice , and the soup if I was in town again. read more

Rhinelander Cafe & Pub - the outside of the restaurant - Pubs Near Me - Rhinelander, Wisconsin

We arrived around noon on a summer Friday. The restaurant was empty and there were no greeters or servers around. Finally the lone customer signaled us to just pick a table. The restaurant advertised an AYCE fish fry which is why we came. Not only was it not AYCE but the order of baked fish for my husband consisted of two tiny, tasteless and dried out pieces of fish. I ordered the Thai chicken and veggie wrap and the only way I can describe what I was served is garbage with a smear of peanut butter wrapped in a soggy tortilla. I declined to eat it. We paid and left. Never again. This was a totally bad experience. read more

Came hungry. Left confused, disappointed, and questioning my life choices. This place is a far cry from what it used to be. Whatever made it good back then clearly clocked out and never came back. I paid $32 for a shrimp plate and received three shrimp and a scattered plate of cold, crusty fries--which somehow felt even more insulting than the shrimp count. The service was slower than a Windows 98 startup, the food looked like it lost a fight on the way to the table, and somehow everything was both cold and overcooked. I've had better seasoning from my own tears. The waiter disappeared like my hopes after the first bite. Atmosphere felt like a dentist's waiting room with worse lighting. If you're looking for regret served on a plate, this is the place. Would not recommend--unless you're into emotional damage and expensive disappointment read more

we ordered a cup of soup and an appetizer. the server kept filling our water glasses, and after an hour announced " we are out of French onion soup" ??. We substituted, asked for our appetizer.. she came and said the cook " dropped our appetizer " on the floor and they needed to make another one? The presentation was horrible when we finally got our appetizer. This horrible experience Went on for a hour and a half. The Pub used to be one of my favorite places. Sad I hate writing bad reviews, but couldn't hold back on this one read more

Totally overpriced. I'm never going back. Was a busy restaurant now it's a ghost town.

Just passing through to Burr Valley on our annual family trip. 1st time at RC was in the 80s and still good food, service and pricing. Thanks for no judgement on us tourists. read more

The food was below average! I ended up throwing away my Rueben Sandwich because it was a subpar sandwich. A Rueben sandwich is a closed face sandwich and this one was open besides the dressing for sandwich was given to the wrong person! Coffee wasn't that good either! Service was satisfactory, and ambiance was good but the food served was very unsatisfactory! They only got a 2 star because of the service and ambience. read more

Stopped in for lunch while in town for work one day, had the Cajun catfish feature with au gratin and waffle fries. Fish was delicious but the au gratin potatoes were incredible! Service was quick and attentive. It did take a while for the food I noticed. Was a nice place on the inside, we walked in from the back and were shocked at how nice the place was compared to the back entrance. Highly recommend giving it a try! read more

Started out good. They have a nice selection of mocktails and drinks. We sat a bit before placing our drink order which seemed odd because there were not many tables at 5. Drinks were good. We were served soup & salad promptly so I was thinking all was good but then we waited and waited and waited for our main selection. No one was getting food. We decided the kitchen was not ready to roll at 5:00! Finally our food arrived and luckily it was ok, but nothing to rave about. The baked french onion soup seemed to be the highlight. After the slow 5:00 service, it did seem like the tables were now getting food in a timely matter. Having worked at a country club, I notice things that are wrong in the dining room. Napkins & silverware on the right not left and no side plates for the bread! They brought bread before dinner and we had to ask for a plate. The waitress seemed confused as to why we needed plates but she did bring them. Were we supposed to butter our bread and put it on the table? Perhaps this is being picky but they are a fine dining establishment and it is the little things.... read more

Had 630pm reservations- finally sat at 715/720pm after I bugged them. They were sitting walk ins prior to the reservations!! Then 20 minutes to get and order. And then 45 minutes to get salad and warm soup(had to eat it fast before was room temp) . 45-50 minutes from ordering was finally told spouses dinner was out and had to order another meal. It is now 840pm and we just got our food- I didn't get the sweet potato I ordered but got a baked instead. Good tasted good. But we will not be coming back read more

Service, cleanliness 4 Food 2 We had two chicken wraps. I never was served a wrap that didnt weight 1/2#. These were both stingy to say the least. As well, they were served cold, like the wrap just came out of the fridge! The chicken was breaded n fried, not noted on menu or i would not have ordered. The wraps were tasty but need a lot of improvement. read more

We were in town for a wedding, to my surprise the downtown area was very quaint. We discovered this little restaurant and it was wonderful. We arrived later in the evening and they had no issues seating a party of 5 immediately. The food was good (including a "fresh" salad bar) and our server was wonderful! Definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

Good traditional Northern Wisconsin supper club fare. Two bars, hehe! Steaks, seafood, burgers, etc. Husband ordered a single pork chop and I swear it was the biggest pork chop ever seen in the history of the Universe :) He said it was delicious. He had German potato pancakes with it which were good. I had the pan-fried whitefish which I enjoyed. Nothing unique in the presentation--just good food. Nice baked potato side. We both had French onion soup which was excellent--and no up charge as often happens for French onion soup. To celebrate being "home" in Wisconsin I had a classic Wisconsin Brandy Old-Fashioned Sweet. (For those of you who have never lived in Wisconsin, it is made with Sprite). I've had better (my mother-in-law made killer ones, but I digress), but for $5 it was just right. No room for dessert. read more

While in town for a week in early February, we ate here twice. The food is excellent and the menu is varied. The first night our waiter was attentive and just super nice. The second night was good but my husband had ordered a second glass of wine and it didn't arrive until we had finished our meal and were waiting for the bill. (This was a different server than the first night.) What do you do, cancel that order? It didn't seem any busier than the previous night and the server seemed to be experienced so I don't know what happened there. Though we didn't have the Friday night fish fry this time, we've eaten there before and that meal is also good. I highly recommend this eating establishment. read more

Always loved going here, since I was young. From the atmosphere to the drinks, and food! They were always fab! Great job!

We've been coming to this restaurant for years now and it never disappoints! Many of the waitstaff have been there for years and the food is outstanding! It has the Northwoods vibe going with a great selection of beers for those who like beer and a tremendous menu of sandwiches and entrees. One very nice surprise we found yesterday was the addition of a salad bar, which had disappeared during the pandemic. But it is back and kept fresh and well stocked! The salad dressings are all home made and delicious! Everything you would expect from a great Wisconsin restaurant was there and you really could make a great meal with just the salad bar if all of the other food was just not so darned good! We had the Pub Special sandwich and the fried Haddock - NOT Cod - which was done perfectly! The beer batter was light and fluffy and not at all greasy or overwhelming. It let the true flavor and texture of the haddock come through which was absolutely delicious! The Pub Special, which has always been one of our favorite items on the menu was, as usual, outstanding in every respect! Great flavor, great combination of shaved beef, onions, mozzarella cheese, and mushrooms. Just outstanding with the au jus provided that brings it all together. The thing that this restaurant does SO well, besides the terrific waitresses who make it a total Wisconsin experience with their humor and good nature, is that pay strict attention to some of the little details that separate a good restaurant from a GREAT restaurant. They heat the dinner rolls, which, to me takes some effort to get right, but they get it completely right with the crusty on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside! Perfect! Also, another little touch that is wonderful is that, with a baked potato, they provide a sour cream sauce that has chives infused into it! Makes the final product exquisite in flavor and texture! Your glass is never empty and the waitresses are totally wonderful! If you are in Rhinelander or anywhere near, this is one of the best Northwoods restaurants in the area and shouldn't be missed if you are looking for a pure Wisconsin gastric delight! read more

Rhinelander Cafe & Pub - Haddock Dinner - Fantastic! perfectly done! - Pubs Near Me - Rhinelander, Wisconsin

Love the pub, but considering different places to go. Ordered my favorite, the steak Gorgonzola! Although the price is now 30 bucks, I ordered it. To my surprise the portion of pasta was so small! Come on people, pasta is cheap! It was good and the service was great but I don't think the tiny portion is worth $30.00. The bill for two Diet Cokes, the steak Gorgonzola, with 4 ounces of linguine, if that, a salmon salad, came to 58.00. I'd be happy with more pasta on the plate, not to mention the 4 little pieces of asparagus. The amount of steak was good. The salmon salad was a HUGE disappointment: it was loaded with shredded carrots and smashed cashew pieces but the salmon was less than a half serving- 2 1/2". Should have been called "shredded carrot/cashew salad with salmon flavoring". read more

Party of 10 for lunch. Not busy at all. Most had fish fry. Soup delivered cold. Fish was gross. Up charges for any changes. Chicken Alfredo was a $5 for chicken and $5 to add mushrooms. Added 20% gratuity and said owner would not allow separate checks or assist with dividing $250 bill. Men's room has piss all over the floor. Waitress was pleasant but overall experience was horrible. I was staying in a nearby hotel for an interview in Wisconsin. I was looking for a place to eat. The receptionist at the hotel I was staying at recommended me to go here. I was extremely happy, as well as my stomach, I came here! I ordered the fresh Lake Superior Whitefish. This was the first time I had this fish. It was $20.00. I didnt expect to get 2 sides with it. I got a creamy mushroom soup with warm bread, and mashed potatoes. Everything was heavenly. I shocked myself because I almost finished everything (I left a little bit of my mashed potatoes). Everything was high quality, and all for such an incredible price. Customer service is excellent here. I highly recommend this restaurant! Stoped in on a Saturday at an off time. Prime rib was ordered by most, but also ordered the Ribeye, a burger, chicken tenders and a few appetizers. Went with my brother and sister-in-law a few nights ago. I have to say the food was fantastic! Two of us ordered the rib eye and they were a perfect medium rare and seasoned delightfully. My brother got his favorite, chopped sirloin, and was 100% pleased. I loved my dinner salad (mixed greens and not just boring, bland ice berg and included olives and a harvard beet) and the bleu cheese dressing was so delicious. As is typical in WI you get a choice of potato that includes my favorite...potato pancakes. Oh yay! Definitely the best around! I would have given the Pub a 5 star rating but I was quite disgusted with their policy of charging a fee for using one's debit or credit card. High end places just don't DO that. I won't hesitate to dine there again but will make sure I bring LOTS of cash since their prices are very high ($30 for the rib steaks and $19 for the chopped sirloin). It would be nice to see them remodel and for sure do something about hiding the tacky dumpsters outside their back entrance. read more

For those of you who have read some of my previous reviews know that if a place is great I let you know and vice a versa. Years ago this place was the best in the north woods. Since the old family sold it to the new owners it has been going down hill. I tried it again a few years ago and it was bad. Tried going back tonight and found they have reached a new low. We got seated next to the kitchen door when only about a dozen tables were being used. None of the waitresses knew whose table it was so we were ignored for 10 to 15 minutes until we finally asked if we had a waitress. Wife ordered the blackened salmon and it came out so salty she couldn't eat it. I ordered a half of rack of ribs and only had two because they were so tough. Note to kitchen - putting a shitload of sauce on the ribs doesn't make them edible. There is truly nothing positive I can say about this place. We would have done much better going to the subway a few doors down. read more
