I stop in whenever I'm in the area. My first visit was in 2017 when I was working on the Ice Age Trail. I'll probably get here once or twice a year. Always great service. Really cool taproom. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Upstairs seating. One night that I was here there was trivia. Once in a while, there's a food truck otherwise I have some pretzels and snacks, merchandise, stickers, And beer to in growlers. Plenty of parking. read more

Fun brewery that as I told the beertenders "you came highly recommended by Bob @ Great Dane". I didn't stay long, decision made prior to even arriving. Not familiar w the area, 51 didn't have street lights so I wanted to get back on the road before dark. The two beertenders I briefly chatted w were friendly. For a Friday night the place was full, but appreciatively not loud. I liked the flour/potato sacks hanging from the ceiling. The parking lot was good sized, making parking easy. I had the Oktoberfest on my visit. Thanks Sawmill for a fun time and a good beers, cheers! read more

We stopped at this brewery after picking up our new teardrop camper from Wausau. It took a few extra turns to find but it was well worth it! The beer was excellent! We found ourselves there a few minutes past the start of the"hoppy hour" which is (at this time) 3-5, Monday thru Friday. The building was beautiful, an old DNR building full of natural stone and a lot of windows. They also have a nice outdoor space with a serving window. They had some snacks to satisfy salt lovers and a food truck in the lot. The bartender was also great! Really friendly and helpful. It was a great experience! read more

Very nice place. Great beer and pizza. Service was pleasant and quick. A very enjoyable experience.

Sawmill for me has become my favorite bar ever. I have never been anyone that has welcomed me and where everyone is so nice and welcoming. I cannot rave about this place enough. Every single bartender and every single patron I have come across has been so beyond nice. I may be a FIB but they welcome me with open arms and I look forward to coming here every single time that I can! read more

This wound up being a really magical surprise during our drive South from northern Wisconsin. We had used Yelp to find a restaurant and we're going to be be ordering Chinese food from the neighboring business and we noticed the gorgeous building in its beautiful grounds and saw that its parking lot was absolutely packed. We thought for a second that it might be a wedding venue, when we realized it was a brewery we figured we had to check it out. I noticed that they had a pizza truck out front so the 1st thing I asked was whether they also permitted outside food from neighboring businesses, and they indicated that they did, So we opted to grab an grab an outdoor table and have some beers and Chinese food. We had a fabulous experience. All of the bears were to our liking and we were super excited to see that they had so many hours on tap.. If they have any sours that include orange or guava flavors, we'd highly recommend trying those. My partner Is a home brewer and and was very impressed with both the stout and the Belgian dubbel. We were also thrilled with the options for safe social distancing in the extremely ample outdoor space here. We started out at a long picnic table with big comfy chairs. Shortly after we sat down, another couple asked if they could join out did join us come on which we set okay to since the other end of the table was far enough away that it felt safe. They also had a gigantic fire pit that was probably about 10' across , and we later moved over there and enjoyed sitting by the fire with some other guests long into the evening. There a huge stack of firewood, and guests can start and attend to the fires themselves. It sounds like they regularly have live entertainment on weekends, and there was an entertainer scheduled the day we visited come out but they didn't show up and the staff didn't mention them canceling. If you are trying to avoid going inside businesses during the pandemic, you can park your car in the front or back lot and approach the building from the rear side and there is a walk up window for ordering. read more

Stopped in on 8/27 to see the place and taste some great beers. We love trying new beers and was surprised to see 3 guest beers from different parts of Wisconsin that we have tasted and loved before. We really enjoyed everything we tried, but the Key West Crumble was a real wild card winner. A complex mix of sweet and tart make this a refreshing beer unlike any other. Lots of room to spread out indoors and out amongst the tall pines! read more

What a wonderful place with great beer brews and an awesome no alcohol nitro coffee brew selection. We will be visiting again!

Beautiful pine tree setting, really neat old DNR office stone building, very lodgey and cozy interior, and pretty dang good beers and beer selection. Quintessential north woods type bar feel with a solid selection of beers ranging from lighter lagers to dark ales. Friendly bartender and nice indoor and outdoor seating with live music too. Glad to have walked into this place and look forward to a quick return. PS the IPA's although labeled as easy drinkers won't disappoint the true hop heads. Cheers! read more

Merrill finally gets a nice bar, although this is a tasting room/brew pub that closes at 10:00pm. In a town filled with dive bars and relics with limited tap beer choices, comes a brew pub that nails it. There are 16 selections of Wisconsin craft made beer and of various styles from IPA's to Porters to oak barrel aged Barleywine. The brew tenders were prompt and welcoming. The owner (Stan) and his wife are genuinely kind people that put a lot of sweat and effort into making this place what it is. They're hoping to start brewing their own in summer once their licensing gets set. I've had their IPA at the Lincoln Lager Festival in October and it was excellent. They won the top award at the competition. If there was one suggestion I'd make it would be to offer some imperial stouts and Imperial/Double IPA's. But that's neither here nor there because this place is the best in town and in the Wausau Area. read more

Great selection of beer. Good atmosphere. Really nice house beers and great local craft. Live music is usually good, too.

Great beer and a good group of bartenders. This is the best bar we visited in Merrill. The craft beer is really great, with thoughtful guest taps. We will return. They also have wine and kombucha. read more

Have you ever wanted to go to a bar that felt like you were drinking at the coziest inn you've ever been to, owned by your best friend's parents? If so, you need to go to Sawmill I'd youre ever in the Merrill area. Not only are the made in house brews delectable and at $5/pint (!!!!!!), but the decor gives you the warm Wisconsin feel. Incredibly jovial bartenders and friendly kocaks, you'll feel right at home at Sawmill Brewery even if you're just traveling through. And for bonus points, they also make a KILLER kombucha. read more

There are different beers that just about anyone can find something they like. I like a whole lot of them! The food trailer has been really good both times I tried it. I have tried the sausage and onions and peppers and the Philly, both were above average. My favorite thing to date was the fish taco' s, these rank up there with the best I have had. Sides have been good also, the chip's and the apple slaw have been my favorites so far. read more

Only place I have EVER been where I like TWO of the beers! All beers locally brewed. They also have an intriguing variety of local sodas. This place is beautifully renovated and all the wood work is great to admire over a good local beer from a Mason jar! Staff is always friendly and helpful with any questions or samples. LOVE IT and proud to say it's in my town. CARRY IN FOOD ALWAYS WELCOME-otherwise they do have food occasionally at select times only. read more

Awesome new brew pub! Full of heart and lots of fun. I just came with a friend for the first time, and we had a great time. Very friendly. I was there a little while back when visiting the family. I was first struck by the calm atmosphere. It wasn't loud with a million big screen TVs on the walls like I am used to. I went there with my family and I could actually have a conversation because I could hear them talk. The brewing equipment was very transparent and the staff was not hesitant to show it to me. The in-house brews were inexpensive and I loved the variety. I will definitely be back next time I am in town. read more

best brewery i have ever been to! great home-grown feels, and beer that's fresh and tastey!

This place just opened. They had 12 Wisconsin microbrews on tap and all I had I liked a lot. They plan to start brewing in the next few months, but are currently just serving the micros. The bartenders were very friendly and knowledgeable, and the building in very nice. They don't currently have any foods aside from locally made chips and meat/cheese platters, but they hope to get food trucks soon. read more
