Quick, efficient service, and a burger, fries, and soft drink with one refill for like $6 are features of this quaint, old-fashioned burger joint. All of the food is delicious, and to get anything better you have to go up to at least Culver's-level establishments and pay 2 to 4 dollars more. Friendly teenagers along with some more mature folks to keep an eye on things take your order and get the food prepared almost as fast as any actual chain fast-food place. Another reviewer mentioned Kopp's in the Milwaukee Area as a point of comparison. Kopp's burgers are bigger, but otherwise it's a fairly close comparison in style and substance. Food is good if they make it the way you ask I ordered super cheese with bacon lettuce, and extra extra sauce and order of cheese curds with ranch. They didn't do the extra extra sauce and because they have no inside service I couldn't walk up and get more. When it came time to pay, it was $18.53 for a burger side and a small drink. Now strictly drive through, it appears from glancing through the windows that at one point one could walk inside and order at the counter and perhaps sit and savor the food. It looked really nice, inviting, warm. No more. I arrived, parked my car, walked to door and noted sign "drive through only." I then returned to and maneuvered car in what I thought was order line. A few minutes later an employee came to my car window, told me to drive to other side of building, where I placed my order. While waiting, I could see flames a couple feet high intermittently from the grill. So, flame grilled burger. I had driven over 100 miles from UP (Upper Peninsula) Michigan ski hill where multiple lift towers had "Chip's Hamburgers" decals high on chairlift towers. I ended up using bathroom at a gas station and, wanting to be out of car after two hours driving, eating on hood of car. As to the food, the burger was good, not great. I had a double cheeseburger. Tastes a little flame burned. One really nice point is the man handing me my order noticed my two dogs and gave me a couple dogs biscuits. I don't think I will return to this location. read more

I was initially skeptical 'cause it was honestly an obligation to visit at first (father-in-law's hometown), but it was sooooo much better than I thought it was going to be =D The immediate analogy I want to make: Chip's is like the West Coast's In-N-Out. I mean, it's probably exactly what Burger King was 20 years ago before their quality started to go downhill. I had my mouth fixed for something similar to a burger from Kopp's in Milwaukee and was disappointed. But it really wasnt disappointing. Absolutely better than any of the fast food options in the area, affordable, quick, the staff (looking mostly like teenagers) was both nice and professional. I loved the throwback decor and hope they never change. If I had to guess, I'd say the patties either arent handmade or have been frozen. Something knocks them down from amazing. Once we pulled up and asked for 1 moment to decide what to order, maybe 45 seconds to a minute later we were told "you know there are other people who would like to order their food too!" Fantastic burgers (think Burger King but better)! Charbroiled right there so you have to wait a little bit for your order but it's so worth it! They have great crinkle fries, too. Very yummy. The burgers look tiny when they come out but they really were very filling. The soft serve is excellent, too, and the portions are very generous. I went to Chips a few days after they opened for the season. The service was friendly and cheerful. The burger was tasty and juicy. The French fries were delicious and plentiful. I could not say enough good things about the food, people and experience. Now, a little over a month later, a totally different experience. The staff was clearly wanting to be somewhere else today. Sullen, robotic and frankly quite sad. The burgers were over cooked, hard and dry. The fries were the only thing that resembled the quality of the first time through. My friend and I were driving through on our way to Northern WI for the July 4th holiday and stumbled across this cute place. It was either Hardee's across the street or them. We decided to give the little guy a try. Fun looking place and the burgers were good. Solid and nicely executed. But Oomph. Alex, you need to learn to smile girl and welcome a customer to an establishment, especially when you are the first person we see. A sex robot has more personality than her. No smile when we entered. We said hello and no response. Gave us the dirtiest sour look. Sorry-not-sorry for being a guest that day. Only slight crack of personality was when my asked if the blue jay burger was made of out blue jays. Literally thought she was a mannequin.
