Just enjoyed a great after golf lunch at Blue Heron Brewpub. We had the Belgian Triple and it was amazing. I thought the fish tacos were the best I've had in Wisconsin. My husband had the smash burgers and was a fan. Their home fries were crispy and delicious. Brewers game on the TV and a wonderful bartender to help us with our selections. Stopped in Saturday for a bite to eat. Ordered the stout sprouts as an appetizer and they were DELICIOUS!! Our waitress recommended the Shrimpro with the Garlic Parmesan Fries, and I will definitely be having that next time!! The lights they have hanging are absolutely beautiful and I love the fun and quirky signs they have hanging around the restaurant. I have given them a lot of chances and I think I'm done as of yesterday. I ordered a pizza with a group of 4, the others ordered other menu items. Two said their food was good. One got a Ceasar which was loaded to the max with onions and they hate onions. I don't know if I have ever heard of a caesar with onions. To be fair I personally was usually pleased with the food. What I would have appreciated when ordering a pizza is if they would have told me it would be 30 minutes past when everyone else got their food. I would have happily ordered something else. Which brings me to the service. I have never had great service. Ranges from OK to terrible. Not a good average. Yesterday while literally waiting until everyone else was 100% done eating to get my food was the last straw. It was a work dinner so it made the whole event weird. Maybe the food was the kitchen's fault, but all four of us sitting with empty glasses was not. We would have easily had 2 more drinks each - losing that revenue alone seems like a bad business plan, but losing future business seems like a really bad idea. What a shame. read more

This was the second time my family went to Blue Heron, not too sure if we would go back. When we arrived it was seat yourself, but I felt like it was also get your own menu, drinks and food! It took over 10 minutes for a staff member to acknowledge us. We ordered drinks and cheese curds. The curds came out hot but we had to remind the waitress that we did not receive our drink twice. We ordered and our fries were cold and bland. My son had to eat applesauce with a fork because the waitress never came back to see if we needed anything she forgot our request for honey mustard. I'm giving two stars because our sandwiches were tasty, the restaurant is clean and has a cool industrial feel. May go back for a drink at the bar with my husband but somewhere else for food.... read more

The pizza did not have the correct toppings as we were told the cooks "didn't know it belonged on the pizza". Editable but disappointing and wish it was the old oven above the pub. With this beautiful weather on July 3rd, my wife and I wanted to go for a drive from Mosinee, so we decided to drive to Marshfield area. First place we thought of was Blue Heron because we loved it there. Arrived around 6:30 to 20 people scattered at various tables. We sat ourselves and took in the QR menu. After about 8-10 minutes, I looked around for waitstaff. 3 waitresses were looking in our direction without acknowledgement for my wife or I. Another 5 minutes went by and a waitress stopped over to say "someone will be with you when they can". Ok. We laughed because it wasn't busy at all. Meanwhile, 2 sets of 3 come in and sit down. Remarkably a waitress attends to those tables and takes their drink order. Wow. After 20 minutes of no ordering and plenty of eye contact from 3 staff members, we left. 1 good and proactive waiter could have handled the 26 people at the Blue Heron dinner rush today and made a lot of money. It's sandwiches and mixed drinks, not 5 course meals, dessert, and coffee. I'm disappointed because we love Blue Heron, we took time to drive to the restaurant, and the service felt intentionally lazy. I hope the blue heron staff picks up their game and learns from this review. The staff cost the owner money and future business. read more

This was my second time at Blue Heron! The last was about seven years ago, and I am happy to say that I was impressed both times. It's great to go through and city and be able to go back to somewhere you have not been to in a while, and get a great food and service experience again. Beer: we went for a flight! Hop Heart IPA: Great aroma of mango and grapefruit for me! The flavor was spot on hoppy and bitter! So good! Saison D'etre: I really enjoyed this Saison. They did a great job with nice spicy and clove notes. Perky Dairy Heir Red Cream Ale: Wow! The creamy mouth fee on this beautifully smoothed and balance red cream ale was fantastic! I could drink this all day everyday! Shadowfax Blanc Wit: a nice light wheat ale that matches that aroma. I could really get notes of coriander and light citrus as well. Rauch Em Sock Em Smoked Ale: this was my least favorite that I wanted to be my favorite. I love smoked beers. This one was a little underwhelming for me. Great smoked aroma though. Food: we shared some apps. Stuffed Sweet Peppers: It sounded like these are usually preprepped as we were their around an early dinner time, and she was unsure they would have an prepared as they were busy earlier in the day. She then came out and told us they can make some for us. We lucked out as they were delish! They are fresh orange sweet peppers stuffed with their house spinach and artichoke dip, Asiago cheese, and then oven baked and drizzles with balsamic. They were so good! Duck strips: panko almond breaded duck strips and we had a side of the chipotle honey. These were tender, crunchy and good. No need to dip in sauce. Our server was super nice and friendly. The gentleman who brought our our food was really funny and kind as well! I will continue to make stops here when I am in the area! Hopefully I don't have to wait another seven years! read more

We are from Wisconsin Rapids but Blue Heron is our go-to spot when we're in Marshfield. In general, the food is good and so is the service. There are a lot of creative menu options and fun appetizers. We've had one or two mediocre experiences over the years, but we've never had a BAD experience, and no restaurant is perfect 100% of the time. Overall, Blue Heron is a great place to eat and/or have a beer. read more

We had high hopes on this place but we were disappointed with the food and service. It took awhile to have our order taken and get our beers. The beers were okay. We ordered a BLT and the duck strips. The BLT was nothing special. I could have made it better at home myself. Fresh fries are fresh fries, never really crisp. They did not have any soup on the Saturday we were there. I thought the duck strips were heavy breaded and dry. The sauces were good though. We asked for water a couple time and had to wait a long time before getting any. read more

Hit up this place late at night but still excellent. Just a classic Wisconsin fish fry basket with excellent batter and good solid fish. It wasn't cod, but it was still excellent. We have been patrons of the Brewpub since it opened, but after the service we received last week we will probably not go back. We ordered a special advertised on Facebook. When it came, it was missing the tomatoes (as advertised). The bartender went to the kitchen and came back with a photo on his phone of the kitchen whiteboard that did not include tomato. Rather than come back with our two slices of tomato, as advertised, he felt it was more important to try to prove us wrong. It was insulting to say the least. It is a shame. This restaurant has been a gem of our town for so many years. Now instead of wanting the customer to have a wonderful meal, they would rather "put us in our place". Of course that doesn't work if the customer can show you what the Facebook post included. read more

Sandwiches were so tough you couldn't chew and it was their special. The soup was not palatable. Took 15 minutes for the waiter to come back to table after he asked what we wanted to say he forgot, it's busy. There was 6 other people there so not even an 1/8 full and 2 wait staff. Never checked in to see how it was, the proceeded to tell me it's cuz you have to eat the sandwich in a special way, that's why the bread was hard like croutons, cuz you have to dip your sandwich in the soup, not water seperate. No amount of dipping would have saved the meat, it was cooked well well well done and almost burned on mine. There was no apology, there was excuses and no offer to speak to anyone or compensate anything. This places used to be great, always packed and delicious food. Yes at times the fries were not perfect but it was a wait out the door so totally get why that happened. New owners, the place rarely is more than 1/3 full. We made an hour drive to have lunch there, total waste. read more

This was a really neat place, the ambiance was pretty cool. The hostess didn't forgot the greet part of her job and just sat us. Our server was a nice girl however once we got our food she checked on us about seven times and I've never thought that the server could ask you if you needed anything too much lol. The food was alright, I had the western burger with potato salad. It was definitely well done but overall the taste was pretty good. The peach Bourbon BBQ sauce was pretty overpowering though. Very surprised that an ordinary town like Marshfield had their own brewery! Impressive list of beers brewed on-site, they will let you sample the beers before you settle on a pint. They had a stout, IPA, Scotch Ale, and your standard lager and wheat beers. I opted for the Lochness Strong Scotch Ale. It was caramel in color with a syrupy body without being too sweet. At 7.7% ABV, it wasn't over-the-top boozy, coming off as balanced and smooth. They had a great, long cocktail list as well and satisfied everyone's taste in our wedding party. The brewery is in an old dairy processing plant that's been reclaimed and revitalized into an industrial, yet inviting atmosphere. Prices are SUPER reasonable, $5-6 for tap beers and $6.5-8 for craft cocktails. read more

This place is just amazing. They had room for people to social distancing. The server had a mask on and everything. The food was just amazing. We went there after we went to the light show at the zoo. I would recommend this place. It's also really cool that they transformed an old fire station into a restaurant. Cheese curds are really good. HUMP DAY! Camel burger was very delicious. The hefeweizen they brew here is the closest iv had to being like real German hefeweizen. I wish this place was closer to home. Wisconsin needs more places that make edible yet yummy food! read more

I'm frequently in Marshfield on business, and I even paid for PubClub membership since I've been going to this place pretty regularly for close to a year now. With the COViD rules, bartender told me they encourage patrons to order from the "touch less" online menu on their website (see pic). Based on really liking their Sriracha Sirloin Tips appetizer in the past, I ordered the Sriracha Sirloin Melt Sandwich ($14 vs $12 for their other "beef" sandwiches that advertised "top round"). Needless to say, I was disappointed when their Sriracha SIRLOIN Melt only contained TOP ROUND, not the SIRLOIN tips used in their prior appetizer. Call me crazy, but I think a restaurant shouldn't go around calling their standard beef sandwich (top round) sirloin. No discount offerred even after I pointed out the discrepancy. read more

Good pub food! Started off with the cornmeal breaded crawdads with zesty remoulade and those were so tasty that they were gone in a jiffy. I had the fish & chips and the beer batter was light and crispy and this is the first place I've ever liked the vinegar served with fish & chips. My husband had the reuben sandwich and he really enjoyed the sandwich and the house-made kettle chips that came with it. Fried pickles. OMG, the fried pickles. Blue Heron serves the typical bar food, but with a few standouts. The fried pickles are one of them. Blue Heron is noisy. It has the standard open warehouse feel that makes sound echo off the walls and floor and ceiling. During Happy Hour, it's impossible to have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. By the time you leave you're nearly hoarse. With that said, though: The food is good -- the cranberry salmon salad is unusual but works with those disparate flavors. The Hawaiian pizza is stellar. They've added mangoes to the pizza in addition to the usual pineapple. That little extra is enough to take this pizza to the next level of wow flavor even without the asiago cheese and red peppers. I haven't even mentioned the craft beers, but it's tough to find a local craft beer that doesn't taste good when it's cold and served with pizza. read more

Then came the cheese curds and of course they didn't disappoint huge helping of them at that. Went to the Blue Heron BrewPub with a group of 4 for lunch. New owner, new name. We started out with bruschetta which was topped with shredded cheese melted on top and spinach leaves in the middle of the plate. It was very good. We ordered the sampler platter of beer, which allows you to pick 6 of their 10'ish beers on tap. Most of the beers had great flavor, but there was one that everyone in my party commented that it tasted like water (it had no flavor to it). Our service was prompt and polite. We all ordered salads, which were all very well prepared and presented. They also offer tradition brew pub meals, fish and chips, burgers, chicken... Typical brewpub look, with a view of the tanks behind the bar. My only suggestion is to upgrade the 20" old school CRT tvs to LCD's, improve the acoustics (it is super loud and you can here the bartenders whisper from 75 feet away and around the corner and think about offering free wifi (helps me to yelp on the go!). read more
